Hey what’s going on everyone? I’m staking my claim here on the way to 1M. I tallied up all my liquid cash and investments this weekend and I’m at $855,000.

$872K as of 3/15/21.

Hello
We crossed the half million networth this March. It took 3.5 years to double it from 250000 CHF. We will see how fast we will reach a million. The total networth target is between 1.5 and 2 million CHF (including house).

Welcome @Erma!  Is frugality popular in Switzerland?  A cousin of mine (Swiss) told me that she knew her husband was a keeper when they started dating, and she could tell "er wusste, was eine Rappe wert war."  :)

@Trifele I think it depends on the people as everywhere. In theory we are forced to save at least for taxes as you get a yearly bill, but some people don't do it/can't do it. Also housing and childcare is extremely expensive.

@racquetcat I also want to know the tricks @Icecreamarsenal is applying to his/her incredible money collection journey!!!  Same here, last summer I was around the same number as icecream and then he/she used the turbo button and left me behind :)

Congratulations @Icecreamarsenal, what an amazing run so far! You are an inspiration to many of us :)

Example: from 11/1/20 to 12/1/20 an increase of 106K!

Keep up the great work!
I auto-invest 8k/mo into vtsax.

Using my world-class detective skills, I think I've blundered onto your secret.

We're lucky to invest $3k, maybe $3.5K, a month. (and yes I realize that does make us fortunate, but your pace is crazy fast!)

We would instantly spring over $1m in total net worth if I updated the fmv on the house.  At the moment I am using the last appraisal which was 260 when we refinanced about a year ago.  The county assessor just raised the value up to 290 and Zillow has me way up at 320.  Purchase price was 191 back in 2010.  I am going to stick with the actual appraisal as the most reliably accurate measure.  That leaves me with about 150 in home equity and pushing 850 liquid net worth, which puts us right on the cusp.

I like calculating home equity as sale cost * 0.92% to account for transaction costs, too.

Because you rarely get 100% of the equity out of a house when you sell, regardless of how you sell.

I've been doing 95% of the estimated value, but initial indications are that was probably too generous (we're just starting the process of preparing to sell).  We'll likely take a pretty significant hit in my presumed net worth, since we may have to sell for less than I - and computer algorithms - had been thinking our house was worth, but we'll be fine regardless.

Because you rarely get 100% of the equity out of a house when you sell, regardless of how you sell.

At this point, I do not figure in any equity for my primary home. The transaction costs and availability of those funds means that I cannot use it to live. Also, being in a high cost of living area, if I figured it in my net worth would feel out of whack with my liquid savings. That paints an unrealistic picture.

Same here - for this race I track cash, investments, conservative equity in my side businesses and investment properties.  I do track house net worth separately though, and as of last night am a millionaire with that included.  Sounds strange to say :)

Some people are measuring TNW and some LNW.  One of the reasons I am measuring TNW is I still have a mortgage, so the portion of my monthly payment that goes toward equity (about $900) shows up in the net worth progression.  There is no right or wrong way to do it, you do you.

Added another 15k to our primary home equity. Valuing it at a conservative 375k when Zillow and Redfin have it 70-100k higher. Apparently if I took the high estimate I'm a millionaire NW...! this market is wild. But don't congratulate me yet, I'm staying in this race until investments hit 1M.

Alright, I’m blowing this taco stand. I rolled over 500k sometime in 2014 and I’m officially over 1M.

I was not working for the last few years, but I’m back at work now and may buy a house in the next year. If that happens my annual expenses will definitely go up, but I’d expect to be back to where investment returns can cover expenses within a few years.

I'm fully vaccinated +2 weeks, I'm firmly over 700k (for now since we all know things can swing), I got my state tax return and my stimulus check, so things have been going really really well.  The weather is even starting to get good enough to go for some fun bike rides over the weekend with friends.  Hopefully I can hit the 750k mark sometime soon and get over that halfway hump for this race.  This month marks 4 years of tracking my investment worth and a gain of over 550k since I began and I'm so much farther along than I thought I would be by this point.

Q1 2021 Update
Was unemployed for 6 months but got my first paycheck yesterday morning. (Called back from furlough.) While unemployed, our net worth increased by over six figures...
(Spouse income was typically under $1k/mo during this period.)

Congratulations, that is awesome!

I started following this group a short number of years ago, thinking it would be mission impossible. But a combination of saving and market returns meant I crossed the 1m threshold at the end of December 2020. I thought it was a fluke so didn’t particularly notice.

Just passed 1.1m.

Guess that means it wasn’t a fluke, so thank you for all the encouragement, I somehow managed to graduate this group :-)

Good luck everyone - if I can do it, you all certainly can (and will)!

Still climbing.. Moved in March so had a lot of expenses (two months of overlapped rent, washer/dryer, fridge, built a home gym, etc.). April I get 5 paychecks instead of 4. still have a few sizable expenses but should save at least $12k-$14k.

Really itching to hit $1MM this year.. Our first baby is due in August, and with a bit of market help, if I can manage to become a millionaire the same month my first child is born, that will be a helluva month.. Even if I hit it this year, this will still be a helluva year!

Those of you who track monthly makes me jealous with all your data points, I just know I'd become obsessed if I reached it that frequently. This is household total net worth:

7/2020- $597k
10/2020-$646k
1/2021-$717k
4/2021-$763k

March is usually a particularly good month for us (exception: 2020) due to a nice chunk the the 401K from my spouse's bonus (plus the match) and then using the rest of the bonus to fill any remainder in the IRAs, but this year was particularly good. We found out that spouse would be getting an additional $15,000 in retirement as a reward for good work (I KNOW, right?!).

That is not currently reflected in the numbers above because it comes with the added requirement that it vests in three parts over three years (there's the catch). I cannot decide how to count it here... the full amount shows as part of his retirement (including growth, thanks markets!) accounts. But I don't think I want count it until it vests.

Congrats to all the grads and welcome to the new folks!
