officially here now at a NW of $503,705 after market gains yesterday.

I posted once before a couple months ago about breaking $500k NW but that wasn't correct.  I was using a portion of money that I am no longer calculating towards my NW.  I want NW number to be pure and accurate which I now have.

Hey @DarkandStormy and @tarheeldan it's good to see folks from the old thread. Let's promise that being here won't change us.

Hey @Nick_Miller ! Good to see you too!

Generic cheerios do not taste the same :/ But the raisin bran is pretty good!

I misread that as generic *cheetos.  And, likewise, the generic version is never as good.

Getting started on the 2021 numbers.  We are at the mercy of the market but there is a good chance we break 1M NW this year.  February should be solid due to bonuses that will be shoved into investments.

End of      NW           Change

12/13:   $41,032
12/14:   $106,801    $65,769
12/15:   $197,262    $90,461
12/16:   $276,361    $79,099
12/17:   $368,051    $91,690
12/18:   $394,472    $26,421
12/19:   $560,195    $165,723

12/20:   $840,205    $280,010

01/21:   $858,525    $18,320

Year to date:          +$18,320

I am tracking this race in USD, but I squeaked past a notable (to me) milestone this morning when my NW crossed $1,000,000 CAD--the currency of my former and hopefully future home. The last year or so has been a slog, as the buying power of the US dollar has fallen and acted as a headwind, and so it's nice to finally check that box.

Excited to graduate from this thread.  Looking back we hit $500k on 6/6/18, and crested $1m invested assets yesterday!

Next big milestone is for taxable account (currently ~$150k) to equal mortgage at $498k- not sure if we'll pay it off then, but more comfortable with that than sending extra payments.

Congrats. We are currently at 530k and have similar plans re our mortgage after reaching FI. Do you mind saying how much of that gain in the 2.5 years were your contributions?

It was almost half/half contributions vs. gains.

We max out both of our 401ks annually, but exceeded income limits for Roth in 2019 and 2020, so we focused on taxable instead which we started with $10k in August of 2018.

Sold our condo in fall 2019 and rented for a year while we built new construction (condo proceeds were equal to 20% downpayment, cross country moving expenses, and new furnishings). During that time, our rent was pretty cheap so our savings rate was 50%+ for ~10mo.

We've been in new home ~6mo but just refi'd 30y fixed at 2.5%, so in no hurry to pay extra.

Might graduate out of this thread sometime this year. It took about 3 years to get to 500k, and maybe about 4 by the time we double that to get to 1000k, wonder if it'll only take another 4 years to get to 2000k... Actually I expect it will take more like 5.

A little late but props to @talltexan for the reminder the other day that its not ALL ABOUT MONEY!  I have a good job where I get to work with my hands every day (when I haven't had this type of work, I've been unhappy) and I know I wouldn't be happy if I WAS a full time day trader (no knocks to day traders - you all have serious cajones and I'd love to learn more about how you do it!) Course this is easier to say after a good couple weeks of market gains : )

I am grateful that something in my comment resonated with you! I have a job that requires that I stay current on macroeconomic conditions, which includes asset prices, so I cannot ignore things like Gamestop (though I can try to be disciplined about my own investing).

I just started a new 12 month position with a 20% payrise so most of that will be going  to savings & a bit to some work around the yard.

Hey what’s going on everyone? I’m staking my claim here on the way to 1M. I tallied up all my liquid cash and investments this weekend and I’m at $855,000.

My wife and I both expect to work from home for the foreseeable future so our savings rate should be pretty stellar for 2021. As long as we don’t see an extended period of negative returns, we should cross the 1M mark within 12 months.

Total FIRE savings goal is 1.8-2M which I hope to see in 5-7 years. (Currently early 40’s).

Wow the volatility continues. After being up £20k last week for the month, things have now dropped to £1k this week.

Wondering where we’ll be at when I do the end of month update on Sunday...

True dat. The idea of $10K+/- daily net worth fluctuations would have blown my mind just five years ago.

We've saving about $2k every two weeks and it's hard to even know when it hits the account given all the market fluctuations.

Kinda nuts.

Also kinda demoralizing in a lot of ways, lol.

I know what you mean. We're at the point now where if the market moves 0.1% it exceeds our combined gross income for the day. Hard to even notice the contributions sometimes.

$503,757.

Well shit. Guess I have to mingle in *this* room now. Change is...hard.

Hello! Spare Change has been around for awhile now in these threads...first posted a net worth of $11,963 in June of 2014. To be honest, I don't particularly have any motivation to graduate from this one. I would be retired before I did. Essentially FI now. I downshifted to PT about a year and a half ago. I work 5 days on, 9 off. Occasionally extra. Have a boatload of pto saved up. I still invest, just smaller amounts. The tortoise has arrived, and he's happy to make you hares look even better:). Cheers everyone!

It is what it is.

Buying shares either way right? Even if we break even on a year we still own more shares at the end :-)

Welcome from a fellow tortoise @SpareChange!  I've been in this thread many years and never expected to graduate.  But the stash has kept growing since we retired so it seems kind of fun to follow along and see if we can cross $1M.

Nice job on the work/life balance!

Welcome SpareChange! You might have outgrown you name with your arrival here. Curious about your budget if you're FI at $500k. Could you live on $20k a year?

Trifele, you will earn yourself a nice stiff drink if you do the table. It took me an embarrassingly long time to get mine converted but its nice now.

$503,757.

Welcome from a fellow tortoise @SpareChange!  I've been in this thread many years and never expected to graduate.  But the stash has kept growing since we retired so it seems kind of fun to follow along and see if we can cross $1M.

Nice job on the work/life balance!

Thanks! Nice to meet you before you outgrow this thread. Congrats in advance!

Thanks! Hmmm. Maybe I'll have to consider changing my avatar to precious metal coins at some point :). Outside of income taxes, my regular monthly, semi-annual, and annual expenses were just under 18k last year. So technically yes, but I wouldn't FIRE myself on it.
