Net worth progress (includes home equity; does not include roughly $30k in cash)

10/1/18 $502K

01/1/19 $480K - this was all market drop; no change to savings behavior
04/1/19 $546K
07/1/19 $579K
10/1/19 $586K - pulled a chunk out of our HSA to pay for childbirth costs incurred earlier in the year; also started daycare; husband took 2 months unpaid paternity leave... savings rate currently in the toilet

1/1/20 $650K
4/1/20 $678K
7/1/20 $689K

Anticipated graduation for net worth: mid-2022 (holy heck -- that's a whole year shaved off from my last update. Making faster progress than anticipated.)

Also just graduated from the $250k-$500k thread, where I was watching investments-only. So here's the start of investments-only, without home equity and without cash on hand:

8/1/20 $508K

Anticipated graduation: January 2024

Back for an update after closing out 2020!

Net worth progress (includes home equity; does not include roughly $40k in cash; does not include 529s for 2 kids)

10/1/18 $502K

01/1/19 $480K
04/1/19 $546K
07/1/19 $579K
10/1/19 $586K

1/1/20 $650K
4/1/20 $678K
7/1/20 $689K
10/1/20 $751K

1/1/21 $880K -- Modest inheritance combined with a bonkers stock market = a truly outrageous Q4

Anticipated graduation for net worth: January 2022 mid-2022 (holy heck -- huge market returns in 2020 have this milestone really, really close...)

Investments-only progress (excludes home equity, cash, and 529s)

8/1/20 $508K
10/1/20 $537K

1/1/21 $663K

Anticipated graduation for invested assets: January 2024

NW:
April 2017: 175k
April 2018: 333k
April 2019: 400k
February 2020: 515k
August 2020: 602k (415k invested/$50k cash)
December 2020: 669k (478k invested)
January 2020: 690k (507k invested)

Barely into January and the run up in the market this week finally pushed us past a half million invested (NW 690k)!  I know it could fall back right away, but I can't believe our NW is up almost 100k in 6 months.  Goal for 2021 is 80k in tax advantage accounts and to open a taxable investment account for the first time.

Similar to others on this thread, November was an exceptional month for us gaining just over $46k. We pulled the plug (temporarily) in mid September and have been staying with family and currently in the Algarve for the past 2 and a half months. Our NW in that timeframe has basically gone up $50k despite purchasing a $15k car in cash. I'm by no means extrapolating this for the future but am happy things have kicked off nicely.

Bring on December!

Bit late with the update but December was still solid, we ended the month at around $702k for another big milestone. 2020 was bonkers as far as year over year gains, partly due to selling it all and throwing it into the market in late July so it's not really 100% fair to compare.

Ever since moving to Europe and living in rented accommodations we have been able to stick to our generous budget and feel good about where the numbers will go in 2021. I might move to quarterly updates as the lack of contributions will this a very slow process.

I was over 900k three years ago when I retired the first time. I just accepted a job offer and I’m starting next week. I may graduate from this thread before I go back to work!

I did my last check-in right after New Years, but I was curious and had to check again. I’m basically within a normal day’s swing of 1M. It will be pretty funny if it bumps over by the end of the week.

So, the top is definitely in and everyone should go all cash before tomorrow.

Two commas! And I’m un-retiring and starting a new job next week.

This year has had some wild swings. I had a $280k run-up since last April.

Thanks @Trifele - I recently read Financial freedom by grant sabatier and there was a quote from the mad fientist- "It's worth any sacrifice to get there."  Pedal to the metal.

Sounds like you are seriously on FIRE @Icecreamarsenal haha -- what's your 'number' and do you plan to RE?

Hey @Trifele -it's been a bit of a moving target, but currently my number is 1.5 invested throwing off 60k/yr (at 0% tax rate, right?)
I'd like to retire to something, but I haven't quite figured out what that is.

Alright, just starting out in this thread - hit $502k in investment accounts last month for the first time! Started tracking in Jan 2017 and was at $186k in investment accounts there, so 48 months to go $316k. Goal is to get to $1M in the same amount of time or less!

Just (re)graduated from the 250k-500k thread as the value increase of our rental property just pushed us our overall investments over 500k. Finished 2020 with 501k investments and a NW sitting above 700k.

The objective for 2021 is for the investment portfolio to reach 625k for a 125k increase. Let's go!

One question - a lot of us seem to use the first day of the month vs the last day of the month to track investments. Is there a reason for that? I historically calculated everything at the end of each month...

Cheers

I do on the first of the month because it takes a little while for my accounts to update for the trading the day before.  I'm usually in bed for the night when that happens.  My number includes the last day of the previous month, but not that first day.  I should probably label it with the last day, like "12/31" to be accurate, but whatever . . . :)

Market is fighting back this year.  With a couple big purchases this month our net worth only went up $1k (and that's with a big signing bonus and the stimulus).

Big yikes.

- Had to pay both our self assessment tax bills this month

This month I saved $31,092 and went up by only $24,500. Most of the loss was in the last day (~2% of stash) so we'll see what happens in February (though I think long term enough it doesn't really matter).

These are starting to seem like play numbers to me.. feels almost like they can't be real they're so huge; so that's a fun thing to start wrapping my head around. Market volatility is starting to make daily gains / losses astronomical if compared to my net worth only a couple of years ago.

I will endeavor to continue acting poor even if it's hard to feel that way anymore. (Poor is a bad choice of word, I understand I was never poor in any sense of the word)

Only tracking personal liquid stash and do not include my wife's savings or any Real Estate equity at this point

Just checking to see if I was the only who had backward movement the last week of January.  Couldn't be just me, right?  We all have the same investments, for the most part :)

First post in this thread.  I have always looked at my portfolio from an annual lens so this should be interesting to watch the next 10 years grow by the month.  Thought I would start at the turn of the century for reference and you can see what an investment portfolio made up with a high percentage of rental real estate looked like through the recession.  I am now shooting for about 50/50 real estate to liquid equities and paying off all mortgages in the next 10 years.  Primary home equity and personal property not included.
