Well kids - it starts to go fast at this stage. You all get a big amount to work for you instead of just contributing your money.

Theres folks here hitting 100 to 200 k a year.. unreal numbers considering where we came from.

Pretty good hop up.  We are getting nearly 100% of our pay back from my employer from our pay cuts earlier this year, but they announced a pay back plan in August when they took pay back to normal in September.  Was not to be payed back until after the end of the year if we hit goals, but things went so well they not only opted to pay nearly 100% back but also are doing it before the end of the year so that will help the December number as I get about 5-6 months of payback.  Will be a few thousand dollars for sure.   Think it not likely to cross $1 million by the end of the month but hopeful that 2021 will be the year.

I was a bit worried with Sanderson taking over the writing but he did a great job.  I had stopped reading at Book 8 when they originally came out and never picked them up again after Jordan died, but decided to give it a go recently.  Having had such a break I started at the beginning and read all books and the prequel in about 3 years.  I am waiting with baited breath for Amazon to begin filming the Wheel of Time after the pandemic makes it safe to do so.  I expect this to outpace Game of Thrones as I have always found this series much more cohesive.  I know several people who detest GoT treatment/portrayal of women and WoT does not have those issues, so I believe the audience appeal will be much broader.

I shy away from posting details hence not being active in this group. But a pleasant shock prompted me to search for 2 comma club threads.

I last checked my numbers in early summer and I figured I would reach the 2 comma mark at the end of 2021.  Well, just checked a couple of days ago and if the nutty market continues its merry way, I'll likely get there sometime in 1Q2021.  Crazy.  Tell myself it's all paper gains and not to get too excited...

Edit to add: I don't own any property, not even a car.  So it's all market/cash.

November 11, 2020:  $527,000
December 11, 2020:  $607,796 (501,797 euros). This month's total is more accurate than last month's, because I actually did the euro conversions and the math with a calculator instead of just spitballing it.  I STILL don't have an answer from the government about how much taxes they want for 2019, but I don't think it's going to bust my butt back down under 500K DOLLARS.

Usually I have been focused on net worth (about 750000), to my great surprise I realized we have about $950,000 assets working for us. So close to a million!
I only started focusing on finances and investments around 2017! I am so proud of our achievements :-)

Aw, this thread makes me so happy for everyone...

We just made it!

We got a million in net worth a while ago, but had to wait a bit to get a million in cash.  I usually only check our numbers once per month, but figured I better check now b/c we are so close (and it could slip back down before 1 January if the market takes a dive over the holidays).

Roughly 1,010,000 as of today!  My husband grew up poor in a family where most members didn't even graduate high school, let alone get college degrees or save any money.  He is still astounded that this has happened, even after 20 years of investing LOL.

I'm in! Currently at $574 investible assets.

Haven't been adding much lately, but the stock market growth pushed us over $600K. About to really start piling it on this year. Our goal is to get up to $700K before 2018. Good luck all!

Well the market certainly helped out a lot this past year. We ended up at $794K on 1 Jan. Beat our goal by a healthy margin! It really is amazing how the market can supercharge your savings with compound interest. I think it was around $500 that I really saw it take over and begin overwhelming my savings.

Just a few weeks into 2018 and we are up to $819K. I haven't added any of my own savings in yet this year either. Amazing. (I suppose it can be just as amazing going the other way too!)

Hey everyone. It’s been a while but I think I finally count myself as graduated. Went over the 2 comma club in Jan of this year. Then I fell below it... way below it. But I held on and am now sitting comfortably over $1.2m. I consider my wife a millionaire and now it’s time for me to get there too! Good luck everyone!

NW:
April 2017: 175k
April 2018: 333k
April 2019: 400k
February 2020: 515k
August 2020: 602k (415k invested/$50k cash)
December 2020: 669k (478k invested)

Investments grew well since August and we'll be adding 12k to IRAs on Jan 4. Closing in on half million invested soon, which is exciting.  Refinancing the mortgage currently and that will free up some cash flow for more investing.

Today is bonus day which I lovingly call jelly of the month club. I am not expecting as much this year because we were shut down for several weeks in the spring.  I did not just put a down payment on a pool so we should be okay with whatever I get.

What will I do to splurge? Replace my Vans that have a hole in the heel with a new $30 pair of shoes since it's starting to snow here in MI now and I don't need snow in my shoe on my morning walk :)

@3Mer, it's eerie how similar our trajectory was. I got into the $500k club 2 months after you and we are within $1k of each other today =D

@2Birds1Stone - Wow, that is amazing!  Nice to be trodding along next to you :-)

And its goodbye to the roller coaster that was 2020! All things considered, for those that buy and hold, people have done very well. On January 1st I forecast that we'd be around £720k at the end of the year using assumptions about contributions and growth.

Be interesting to start a thread where we all guess where we think we'll be on 31st December 2021.

12/16 - $360,891     $570,338
12/17 - $473,407     $697,411
12/18 - $480,550     $732,108
12/19 - $669,819     $943,739

01/20 - $675,940     $951,251
02/20 - $632,514     $909,220
03/20 - $570,114     $848,222
04/20 - $639,036     $918,460
05/20 - $668,874     $949,803
06/20 - $691,239     $973,588
07/20 - $726,252     $1,009,931
08/20 - $779,767     $1,064,777
09/20 - $757,594     $1,043,936
10/20 - $751,205     $1,038,882
11/20 - $837,535     $1,126563

12/20 - $868,659     $1,259,159

Crazy, crazy, crazy.  Rounding to nice round numbers...we have had ~$60,000 in contributions and ~$140,000 in gains in one year.  One year!  The last two years alone have increased our savings by ~$270,000 growth, not including contributions).  I hate to repeat myself, but that's bat shit crazy.

Our retirement timeline hasn't changed but the growth in the last two years absolutely have changed where we are sitting.  I know we could lose the same amount that we have gained so I'm not going to lose my mind...but still this has been an amazing couple of years.

Six more months for us until we pull the trigger.  I don't see us getting to $1 mil in money but I'm absolutely ok with that.

12/31/20   $705,754   $811,062

Bonus time! 100% of it was split 50/50 between VTSAX and VTIAX to bring up my international allocation a little.

I've got a slim chance of breaking $1M invested in 2021 if the markets continue to perform like they did the last 6 months!

As are we, it is pretty unreal looking back! We are very fortunate and have the following contributing factors:

  • DINKs in a MCOL area
  • 70% savings rate, we still live about like we did when I made less than half of what I do now and DW was in school earning peanuts
  • I've somehow managed to earn much more than I ever thought I would, going from 45k right out of college to 160k now (9 years later)
  • DW is in healthcare and finished her doctorate level training in 2017 and earns ~130k
  • Pay $0/month for a high deductable health plan and have no major medical issues
  • Lucked out with some real estate purchased in 2012 and sold in 2017 allowing us to pay off all student loans of ~120k
  • Max out all tax-advantaged space $65k+ plus generous employer matches
  • Purchased mostly VTSAX throughout the last couple of dips and never have sold

@caracarn I'm on book 11 now.  I have to take a breath after a couple of days and read something else.  Looking forward to the Last Battle.

@caracarn I'm still on book 11 now lol.  Looking forward to seeing Sanderson's take on it, hopefully a little less smoothing of skirts and clutching of braids and boxing of ears and some more movement.

And 2020 is done, my net worth exploded this year and I can't be grateful enough. Keeping my job combined with being able to save like this has shaved years off my original estimates of FIRE.

This month I saved $129,013 and went up by $137,387.

This year my net worth went up a staggering $410,734... which is more than double what it was.

This is also the year I changed my mind about charitable giving. I had planned on accumulating until I was done and then allotting an amount to charities after that. Now, I've decided to donate at least 1% of my net worth a year while I'm still accumulating, and then re-assess if / when I'm FIRE. This year that meant over $8000 split between three charities recommended by GiveWell (through RC Forward). This will slow me down, but not that much, and helping even a little bit makes me feel better about all the privileges that got me here.

Only tracking personal liquid stash and do not include my wife's savings or any Real Estate equity at this point

I'm in disbelief of 2020.  What an insane year in so many aspects.... I kept throwing money into the market through the crash and the rebound has been insane.  Expecting to see some much lighter gains in 2021 but who knows.  Might hit that double comma club sooner than expected.

Yes, start it please! AND maybe give tips for using "assumptions about contributions and growth." Because I have no idea how to guess mine!

Welcome @McStache!

Totals are investments only, household combined.  The stash keeps growing even though we haven't contributed anything in almost two years.  Would love to graduate in 2021!
