That is pretty incredible. I've never dared venture into individual stock investing (or similar). I figured even if I did choose the right stock(s) I would sell too early or hold on to them too long.

We loosened up on spending a bit this year and I've been reluctant to look at the actual numbers. My rough goal is around $1.25M liquid investments which I'm hoping to hit in under 4 years. I'll probably pull the plug on full time work in 4 years regardless. And I'll also probably work until then even if we hit the target amount sooner.

Yes, we've been very close in net worth for about five years now! Crazy to think of net worth roughly quadrupling in that time period.

Doing the graphs and statistics for the $250-500k thread was fun but also time consuming. I checked every single post and made a spreadsheet aligning everyone by the month they were closest to the starting line and sometimes having to adjust for currency differences. And some people were measuring only liquid investments so their numbers would spike when they would sell a house or something. This $500k-1M thread has twice as many posts as when I stopped doing the statistics for the previous thread. It's really too daunting. Though I may consider skimming for people that have completed the race. At the very least I think I'll graph our numbers against each other. =)

Yeah, it was 2-3 years ago I dropped some cash into it. I'm willing to let the 40k go to 0 or 400k. If it ever gets large enough to wipe out the mortgage ill consider going against my better judgement and call it a lotto win.

Our stache right now is around 750-765k, I am thinking I want about 1m to support spending ($3,333 per month) and then enough to either... cover the mortgage or pay it off? I really don't know. The balance is "high" at 450k, so either we need 1-1.25 and that house paid off, or something like 1.5-1.75 with it around, OR downsize because it is a really big house. TBD I guess. Oh the things i'll have to worry about in 3-7 years!

Our stache is currently around $833k, give or take. We have a much less valuable house (~$230k with ~$140k mortgage remaining). Including the equity value of our cars is what pushes our current net worth above $950k.

I made a quick graph for just us. I may add some more recent graduates later.

Wow, I might make my original goal of 600k for the year at this rate.  That would be unexpected but awesome, although I still wouldn't mind a market downturn in order to grab some more stocks on sale.

With the drops in the last week below this by quite a ways today but still above start of August, and looks like things are looking up today.  Made my monthly bulk deposit as we continue to be blessed with work and the ability to earn a very solid income.  This is above the normal contributions, of which I increased my 401(k) from 6% to 15% as well in the last month to help speed up the accrual phase as much as we are comfortable right now.  It would be very unexpected but there does seem to be a possibility that we could break $1 before the end of the year, but there is also the possibility the stock market runs out of steam and we do the other way.  I think until we get well past the election this will be a huge time of uncertainty which may or may not abate depending on the result.  How I long for less dramatic times.  I am amazed that we are up about $175K since a year ago, getting close in annual change to our entire net worth when I started this chart in mid-2014.  It is unbelievable.

$4,000 increase per month. Break it down. Much will be beyond your control, but if your savings can significantly eat into that monthly figure, you're doing well.

DINKs jumping on the bandwagon! Here's the NW breakdown for the last few years, planning to hit 1M by 2023/early 2024 depending on markets. It might take us a bit longer as we will be having a least one kid (maybe 2) over the course of 2021-2023.

EOY NW (investments, farm and rental equity)
2015: 62k
2016: 134k
2017: 225k
2018: 313k
2019: 444k
2020: TBD, estimated around 595k

@CanMustache , I estimate each child to cost about $100,000 of additional expenses, and it looks like your progress is about $100,000 per year. So if you can manage to increase your family size by two, then just add two extra years to your goal. Glad to have you in the group!

Yet more volatility this month and I can’t see it letting up anytime soon. I think we’re in for a bumpy 12-24 months.

Still hoping to close out the year at £700k (mainly through contributions rather than than investment growth).

Fingers crossed!

Ended August with $628456 for a $35k gain.

Quite a remarkable month as others have noted. I tallied it all up today but will see some stock vesting in the next few days, I also learned what my bonus will look like and without a drop in the market we may actually hit $650k by the time I hang it up for an extended sabbatical effective September 9th.

Another great month, not totally unexpected as I got my work bonus as well as unused vacation payout. I don't really have easy access (ok, I'm too lazy to reset my passwords) to my HSA so I've sort of locked that account at $20k in my calculations. With that in mind we are at $646k this month.

$991,000- Posted on March 12 right before the huge crash. Didn't think we would ever get to $1 mil due to being furloughed.
$1,007,000- Posted on May 26th. First time we realized we passed $1 mil. Got lucky because I reallocated most of our investments to bonds and started moving the funds back to Index slowly.
$1,050,000- As of Aug 11th. Thank God we have about 80% of our investments back in Index during this run up. Who knew with our economy in shamble that the SP is almost back to its high.

We have roughly about $325k our of $395k back in Indexes. That's 82%.
We have another $65k of cash that I would love to go toward Indexes but the market is a bit scary right now.
LOL, I'm still https://forum.mrmoneymustache.com/Themes/default/images/bbc/ftp.giffurloughed and collecting UE. What a great year this could have been with my wife making $50k and myself $120k.
Can't complain. Enjoying the extended layoff.

I found an older 3/28 spreadsheet that showed more exact numbers.
Its been a crazy 5 months. I don't think 1 single person would have guessed that in AUG 2020 the SP500 would pass its previous high already
I'm not gonna lie. I had a lot of my investments on the sideline and were slowing moving them back. I had a bunch of cash too that I would have dumped into Index but I didn't think the SP would regain all its losses that quickly.
Also had to spend $8K fixing the roof and various stuff on the rental.
Can't complain though. Been furloughed from a $120k job since 3/19.

Due to the market changes, down about $8k for the month despite saving about $16k.

I was talking with a friend last weekend, and I think it helps a lot starting investing from the bottom, because you get used to all the hiccups and as they get gradually bigger and bigger as your net worth grows, you become conditioned to them and know it’s part of the course.

This would be different than someone saving up $500k in cash, then dumping it all in the market. Without that conditioning along the way, it’d be harder to stomach those months where you could be down $15k or $50k.

Only tracking personal liquid stash and do not include my wife's savings or any Real Estate equity at this point

I'm embarrassed to say how much I enjoyed switching this over to a table, AND how long it took me to do it!

I hear ya!  i did the same thing earlier this year and it looks so much better as a table but man that was a pain in the butt

Same here--table so much easier. Tho I have to add two columns to mine now. ugh.

(I joke--didn't take that long)
