So have not looked since March 2nd, but here is the update....

                       2014                2015                2016                2017                2018                2019                2020                2021
January$-$292,190$304,411$437,806$581,831$615,789$767,806-
February$-$332,002$331,197$162,424$585,663$662,207$735,649-
March$-$332,209$331,749$481,340$583,773$683,014$683,851-
April$-$336,743$260,548$483,994$582,862$719,849$734,510-
May$256,131$338,884$373,153$483,982$585,929$701,938$760,661-
June$258,642$321,529$377,807$490,951$590,577$731,170$777,705-
July$276,381$320,767$414,764$503,706$601,024$721,753--
August$296,700$313,896$405,676$513,111$606,442$686,503--
September$290,244$301,079$422,204$525,158$610,690$698,968--
October$274,986$308,291$413,967$533,760$585,817$577,615--
November$282,762$308,558$419,572$549,074$595,773$620,036--
December$292,942$312,281$431,458$557,941$575,877$760,501--

I added about $10K in during this time, as we've been very blessed over this time to both keep our jobs (pay cut on my end that last indefinitely), including more work for my self employed wife than she had before the pandemic started which was totally unexpected.  The side hustles also helped both cover the paycut and add to the stash as I have been able to make over $6K doing that since late February, so I have a goal of making $16.5K in 12 months from that which would cover my paycut and the extra savings I was targeting the side hustle for and given that this was 4 months so far, should be doable even by pulling back a bit.

So overall really pleased on how things are going.

Still not quite back at February 2020 levels (I record stock changes and also report here quarterly but overall saving boosted me up in Q1 before the March polar plunge!)

But still the biggest increase in a quarter of all time! Too bad it was just recovering from the previous quarter, right?!

Hey everyone!  I've decided to finally take the leap since I've been flirting at the edge of being here for most of this year.  I'd be quite happy if the market went back down for a while, but hopefully I don't have to keep flip-flopping between threads.

Is your May number accurate?  Just seems like a very big leap, so if it is assuming large deposits.

I find that I am getting lazier about posting updates! I've done quarterly updates this year so far.

Either way, just about at the highs of FEB even though the above numbers look like maximum, they are not because the high's in Feb were right in the middle.

I just turned the big "3" "0" so it's interesting to reflect. I have been posting in this race for 4 years now. I've gone from 250k (and basically no investments) to 850k (650k are stocks).

The progress still feels a bit slower than I'd love to see but all in all, with kind markets I could be a millionaire at 30(so 12 months to make 150k) or basically guarenteed in 31 barring a major crash.

I still don't really have a defined FIRE plan, other than I need something like a 1.25 -> 1.5 million NW, with around 1.00->1.25 of that in stocks. Given that I need around 400k from here, it could be as short as 2 years with huge stock gains, or as long as around 3-5 being modest.

Guys, I was wondering -- do most people include pensions in their numbers?  My DH has a mini state pension that starts at age 55 and I've never included it as part of our savings number.  (Just being conservative, I guess, since it's not "money in the hand.")  He starts getting it next year though, so it's seeming a lot more real now.

If I want to include it, do I take the expected annual payout and multiply by 25 for the value?

These threads are basically for fun and a little bit of motivation.  You can use whatever method works for you to achieve those goals.

For more serious use, you want to track the things that form the basis of your retirement calculations ( the 4% rule ) along with how you calculate your expenses to feed into the 4% rule.

So, for example, i have 2 pensions.  I have a cash pension for which i get statements and that i can choose to cash out and rollover into my personal ira whenever I choose to leave my employer.  I do include that number in my NW.   i have another traditional pension that is a monthly income when i reach retirement age.  I don't count that one toward NW, but I do keep that income in mind for calculating my income during retirement.  It supplements my 4% rule income, just as any social security income will do.

The only time you would truly need to get into the weeds on present cash value for a traditional pension is if you had to divide assets in a  divorce or something equally unpleasant.

This is basically what I do. I will be able to start drawing my pension in 8 years. I don’t really track it for planning, but if I want a rough idea of its present value, I’ll calculate how much it would take to fund the pension using the 4% rule. Then to get the present value I’ll discount by 1.02^8 (use 2% per year to account for inflation between now and 2028).

That is a really rough approach, and if I was going to use it for anything important I’d definitely think about harder.

26 months for 100-250k. Last post in 100-250k here: http://forum.mrmoneymustache.com/throw-down-the-gauntlet/race-from-100-to-250k/msg1440605/#msg1440605

28 months for 250k-500k. Last post in 250k-500k here: https://forum.mrmoneymustache.com/throw-down-the-gauntlet/race-from-250-to-500k!/msg2457040/#msg2457040

Recent NW:

May-19   $482,166.97
Jun-19   $506,489.11
Jul-19   $516,572.20
Aug-19      $520,552.46
Sep-19   $524,681.62

Oct-19    $547,979.00
Nov-19    $564,839.00
Dec-19    $592,397.00 (EST. as of 21st)

I don't update this regularly and with the recession I didn't want to look at the numbers that often, but here we are:

Dec-19    $600,838.00
Jan-20    $616,541.00
Feb-20    $635,416.00
Mar-20    $594,318.00
Apr-20    $636,358.00
May-20    $656,539.00
Jun-20    $672,803.00

It is crazy how quickly the stock market came back.  I sold a house in late Feb and set up automatic investments to dollar cost average the funds from the sale into the stock market on a two year schedule as I feared a large recession. Fears were accurate, but I would be ahead right now if I had invested as a lump sum.

Very humbled to have made it into this thread following the sale of our primary residence.

Starting out with $576168 and hoping to make it to $600k by the time we move across the pond to Europe later this year. Our plan is to only marginally touch this stashe in the next 3-5 years which will hopefully allow it to grow towards that million dollar mark.

last time I was here it all got undone with a divorce and I got moved back down a thread.

however this is all about me!! Third time into the 500's since the divorce - this time at a month end so I'm joining up here - especially as I have a bunch of cash coming in August.

Just crossed over the $1M threshold this week for total net worth, which includes about $815k in invested assets. Didn't think it would happen this quickly given we are in a BFR (big fucking recession). My next goal is to reach $1M in invested assets, hopefully a year from now -- then I can look to pull the effing plug on FIRE. Of course, the stock market could take another dive ... we'll see how it unfolds.

September 2015 -- $560k
September 2016 -- $640k
September 2017 -- $675k
September 2018 -- $776k
September 2019 -- $860k

Would love to hit $1M net worth by December 2020, as I plan to invest about $75k from now until then ... we'll see how the market plays out.

Why hello big pond, small fish here shocked at the prospect of actually tracking towards two commas.

You can read my resume below, and if the market cooperates I plan on hanging out until my 35th birthday (2 years).

-25,000 -> 100,000 was done in 10 months
100,000 -> 250,000 was done in 15 months
250,000 -> 500,000 was done in 16 months
500,000 -> 1,000,000 should be 24 months

My current compensation is about double what I'm used to making, but is inextricably tied to very low job security and Canadian politics so I feel privileged every week when I invest. I have one kid with plans for a second during this window as well.

I'll be chasing up above the next group so won't be FIRE'ing from here but am excited nonetheless.

The saga of 2020 continues.  We bought a car this month so that was fun.  It was "used" with 13 miles on it, one dealer bought it from another dealer at auction and had to title it.  Flew across the country and road tripped it 2k miles back home in 2 days.  This is really a "fun" car and won't hold it's value too well so it was important to me to get a good deal on it.  We got it for about 33% off of MSRP and nothing in our local area comps anywhere close to what we purchased it for as the fully loaded model, even base models comp out higher.  I added it to our assets lists with a depreciated value of what it should be worth in 4 years so our NW wasn't affected by it too much.
