Oct 2017: 527k
Dec 2017: 554k

Mar 2018: 666k
Jun 2018: 711k
Sep 2018: 784k
Dec 2018: 774k

Mar 2019: 830k
Jun 2019: 875k
Sep 2019: 947k

We are so close I’m going to start tracking it monthly. Let’s hope the markets keep cooperating.

Oct 2019: 982k
Nov 2019: 1001k

AND WE’RE DONE!!!!!! This is also our FI number. Everything after this is just padding. It’s definitely felt easier going from 500k to 1M, compared to the first 500K. I’m heading over to introduce myself to the 1M - 2M thread, but if there is a market correction I may be back here with you all.

posting out of order, because I'm excited to say: passed 800k!

I doubt I'll stay above the 800k mark, but I'm hyped because it seemed like an awful long wait to push past the 700s.

Which is bizarre in retrospect, because I didn't pass 700k until April of this year.

I feel like we should define a new measure of time - like biological time, and cyclical time - just for the perception of NW growth . . .

cash+rental equity       add primary residence equity
1/2016      $507K                      $627K
1/2017      $625K                      $797K

9/2017      $784K                      $904K

12/2017    $762K                      $903K  - remodeling primary residence! When project is done, big increase in equity!

3/2018     $725K                       $866K - still remodeling. Framing and all exterior done, all bills paid! (to contractors)

6/2018     $763K                       $910K    Hmmm. Zillow values for rental properties went way up. Making progress on the remodel.  Plumbing, insulation, electrical done. Just drywall, flooring remains!

9/2018    $830K                       $945K   We're painting this weekend! Just flooring and trim left on the remodel!  Cash went up because we paid off a bunch of credit card debt with HELOC. (0%promo rate was ending)

12/2018   $821K                      $964K   Slow and steady progress on the remodel. Thinking about selling a rental in 1stQ or 2ndQ 2019.

3/2019    $833K                      $977K     Just trim is left on the remodel. Rental house is on the market.

6/2019    $820K                     $953K      Had to buy a roof for the rental house. It now is under contract, though. Hope to close before the next quarterly update. Substituted real equity in the total now that we know the sale price for that one. (Zillow values still used for other properties)

9/2019    $832K                     $977K      Closed on the rental house! So nice to be done. Paying off 0%CC bills related to our remodel. Flooring and trim are done. Just railings to go. Hiring out for that, they're tricky.... Final inspection hopefully before the next update.

12/2019   $818K           $965K      Passed inspection. Paying off 0% CC bills. Installing solar panels on a rental. Upward trajectory should resume at the next update. But if we use the Nextdoor valuation for the primary residence, then we're at $1,031K for the second number right now. Pretend numbers. Not selling.

1MM dates      5/2022            4/2020

@JGS1980 @rebel_quietude Thank you! It only took 25 months for us which was a lot faster than the five years it took to get from 0 to 500K.

we took a hard look at how we spend about half way through this year and were able to cut down on some spending, we'll be pushing hard through 2020 to invest the maximum.  Currently saving over 70% of our combined income.  I can see the light at the end of the tunnel.  Shooting for 1.7 million for early retirement, 1 mil to go LOL.

Fingers crossed for good health, good gains and continued overtime!

Hello all. I just re-graduated the Race to $500k thread and am coming back to tackle the next milestone. Obviously it's been a good market year, and I'd have been back a little sooner except that I started subtracting house selling fees out of my net worth a few months back. I crossed $500k just before Thanksgiving but have since dropped back under. No matter, I'm looking forward.

11/30/19: $496k

I'll be moving down to the race to $500k next month. My spouse and I have been separated for 6 months and are moving ahead with a divorce and splitting our assets 50/50 starting Jan 1. It's been a tough year, but I'm really looking forward to to 2019. I might even be back in this race as early as November. We'll see!

Nov 1, 2019 - $501,937
Dec 1, 2019 - $518,285

Not a bad month. Our spending sucked but savings and market was ok. My NW is actually about $3k-$4k higher as I’ve noticed that my 401k hasn’t synced on my personal capital I use to track my net worth. I’ll have to get it ironed out, but don’t quite want to change my method of tracking yet, hopefully it’ll sync correctly and jump up appropriately.

Hi All,

Graduated from the 250-500k club back in June 18 but waited a while to join this one until it seemed like it would stick. Look forward to seeing how I do on this race - alot of the previous gains came about from getting married and combining assets.
Assets include primary residence, rental property, and investment portfolio. Liabilities are two mortgages.

                        Assets   Liabilities   Net Worth
July 2018            $939k        -$433k         $505k

Looks like about a year to go from $500-600k. I was initially house heavy (1 primary + 1 investment), so nice to see the liquid portion of Net Worth continuing to ramp up.

Slightly up mostly due to putting in money in both retirement and taxable. Happy to see it was up with Mr. Market slightly down - this is most likely due to the stock market being a smaller portion of my net worth than most others here.

Here's the latest update on the goal to Investments = $1M.
We've slowed down since we've bought a new house and took money out of the investments account for a downpayment, will be remodeling the place (also likely to take some from investments), and carrying the other house too until we can move into the new one and sell the old.

date         NW        Investments
4/3/14     $430k         $225k
9/19/14    $500k         $275k
11/6/14    $550k         $300K
5/9/15     $600k         $341k
4/13/16    $650k         $375k
9/7/16     $700k         $410k
5/6/17     $750k         $674k (*I think I lost history on one of our accounts prior to this)
9/9/17     $800k         $717k
11/22/17   Assets hit $1M
12/15/17   $850k         $770K
3/10/18    $900k         $770k (refinanced house, put $ in and moved from 30 to 15 yrs)
6/16/18    $950k         $818k
12/26/18   $900k         $750k
1/10/19    $950k         $803k
2/19/19    $1M !!!       $856k
6/12/19    $1.05M        $900k
10/9/19    $1.08M        $895k (downpayment on house and market misery)
12/14/19   $1.14M        $954k

Hi! I'm new here. My husband and I (married in 2004) started reading about the FIRE movement around four years ago, but we only recently turned into frugal badasses. We made some major life changes this year to help us cross the $500K threshold. We adopted two children in the last four years. Parenthood and medical issues have drastically shifted our priorities and helped us realize how precious and fragile life is and how much we value our time together. We kicked things into high gear this year by downsizing from our 2200sf 3bed/2bath home far out in the burbs to a 1350sf 2bed/2bath townhome literally at a metro stop. We downsized from 2 cars to 1 car, and we walk or take the train as much as possible. My husband began taking advantage of more of his company's benefits including a 30% gross salary deferral, with 50% of the remainder contributed to his 401K. Over the course of the year we have made many other cuts. I have been a full time SAHM mom, but I am hoping to return to work teaching college statistics next year. At this rate, we hope to catch FIRE in two more years. Our major concern is health insurance, as one of our little ones has multiple major health issues. In short, we hit our out-of-pocket max every year and must account for that going forward.

Year         Liquid Assets     Net Worth    Note
2004.12    -$7K                 same           started marriage with $17K in student loans from undergrad
2005.12    $11K                same
2006.12    $33K                same
2007.12    $62K                same
2008.12    $58K                same           recession!! Also bought used car with $10K in cash
2009.12    $102K              same           paid off student loans!!!
2010.12    $146K              same
2011.12    $187K              same
2012.12    $205K              $266K          bought our first home for $176.5K; put down $50K
2013.12    $186K              $362K          paid off our mortgage. If I had a time machine I'd do things differently.
2014.12    $227K              $420K
2015.12    $242K              $431K          adopted our daughter; minor surgery for her
2016.12    $244K              $473K          adopted our son; major surgery for him
2017.12    $393K              $622K          minor surgery for our son
2018.12    $437K              $742K          major surgery for our son

2019.03    $564K              $875K          annual bonus/performance shares; $50K inheritance
2019.06    $437K              $868K          bought new smaller home for $250K; put down $125K
2019.09    $696K              $846K          sold old home for $300K; poured proceeds into investments
2019.12    $729K              $891K          continuing to pour home sale proceeds into investments

Our old way of thinking would have led us to pay off our current mortgage upon the sale of our old house. As it is, we decided to pay the mortgage balance down to $100K. Going forward, we intend to keep the mortgage and make the minimum required payments only so we can maximum investments returns.

Welcome aboard @fireseeker!  Wow, great first post.  You really have the pedal to the metal -- great job.  If you are targeting 2022 for FIRE, consider joining the 2022 Cohort Thread:  https://forum.mrmoneymustache.com/welcome-to-the-forum/2022-fire-cohort/600/ .  Lots of good info and support there from people that are at the same stage in the process.  And you can always go One Less Year (OLY) or One More Year (OMY) as your plans take shape.

Thanks, @Trifele! Checking that 2022 cohort thread out now. We are definitely frugal weirdos among our circle of friends, so it's nice to find plenty of like-minded people here.

Thought we were really close, just 2-3% short of a 1M of investments (no house equity in there).  While looking through things I noticed one account was zero, as my wife's current job had changed providers over the summer and I got out of sync.  Tracking that down puts us at $1.03M, which is kind of anticlimactic...

In reality there is a 529 account in there that is not retirement money, and between that subtraction and the petty cash in the checking account I think we are almost exactly at $1.00M.

Graduated this week! Sooner than expected, for sure. The market may take me back and forth for a bit, but I consider the box checked. That second comma still doesn't quite feel real yet.

Just crossed 900k for the first time, woohoo! Next stop, 2 commas!

Doing better so far in 2019 - ended February right around 845k. Onward!

Welcome, @dandypandys ! I just did the same, took a peek at the 1M to 2M thread.

cash+rental equity   add primary residence equity
1/2016      $507K                 $627K
1/2017      $625K                 $797K
9/2017      $784K                 $904K
12/2017    $762K                 $903K  begin remodeling primary residence
3/2018     $725K                  $866K
6/2018     $763K                  $910K  Zillow values for rental properties went way up
9/2018     $830K                  $945K
12/2018   $821K                  $964K
3/2019     $833K                  $977K  Rental house is on the market.
6/2019     $820K                  $953K  Had to buy a roof for the rental house. It now is under contract, though.
9/2019     $832K                  $977K  Closed on the rental house!
12/2019   $818K                  $965K  Passed final inspection on our remodel. Paying off 0% CC bills. Installing solar panels on a rental. Upward trajectory should resume at the next update. But if we use the Nextdoor valuation for the primary residence, then we're at $1,031K for the second number right now. Pretend numbers. Not selling.

Adding in monthly updates for this home stretch for the TNW including home equity! Will go back to quarterly updates for the cash and rental equity goal.
(I know it's not January quite yet but these are projections based on 12/23 values)

1/2020     $832K              $992K       It's been a good month for real estate valuations even outside of Nextdoor. And the mutual funds also had a good month.

Didn't find this one yet, and I keep hearing how the next half-mil goes so much faster! We'll see. Anyone else?

April 2016: 500k

Saving ~75% of income.

Checking out of here. Made it on a single salary that never topped six figures, it's possible.

Happy Holidays all!

7/1/19 $255k LNW / $780 TNW
6/3/19 $242k LNW / $765 TNW
5/2/19 $242k LNW / $764 TNW
4/1/19 $236k LNW / $756 TNW

12/31/19 $296,096 LNW / $833,129

This amazes me.  Mid-year, I got a promotion and salary increase to $82k (so less than that for partial year).  Since 1/1/19, my LNW has increased $101,662.  Our first home is now a rental and our current home has 2 rent paying roommates, so there's more going on than just my salary, but that still blows my mind.  My net worth increased in 365 days by 24% more than my day job pays.

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
