I'm baaaack!  Can I come back?  IDK if that is allowed.  We hit $1M on August 9th.  And again on August 20th, and September 11th.  Now due to market volatility we are at $981K from our 10/1 high of $1.025M.  $44K - poof!  Can't wait to become a millionaire for the 4th time!  Around mid September I figured we were in the clear, but I guess not.  Still in the accumulation phase though, so it's all okay.  Probably 2/3 of the way to pulling the plug at this point.

Does that make you a multi-millionaire?

lol!  There needs to be a proper name for this zig zag action when you cross the same milestone over and over.  Thank goodness someone mentioned that this was a likely event, otherwise I think I would have taken the bouncing around too negatively!  Dropped another 15K today.  What a wild ride.

I happened to check mint the other day, and it had us down about $30,000. It's tough to swallow that, but it's only noise in the long run. Still following the plan.

Why are you folks even checking? Why torture yourselves unnecessarily? Why not simply do the end of month or quarterly updates and be done with it.

Good reminder.   All this volatility with +/- 1% swings every couple of days has really shaken me out of the habit of checking in on balances.  It's pointlessly frustrating.  So is the news in general.

It feels that way, doesn't it?  Of course the good news is you get to buy at a discount while the markets recover.

01/01/17 £374668
01/01/18 £497097
01/02/18 £500655
01/03/18 £497804
01/04/18 £492551
01/05/18 £503531
01/06/18 £519609
01/07/18 £534656
01/08/18 £539771
01/09/18 £552418
01/10/18 £555232
01/11/18 £546426

2018 target of £575k now looks very difficult.  Was probably a tad optimistic anyway.
Business is slow at the moment so not putting much into the pot either just now.

My 2019 target is £680k which I guess if I finish 2018 at lets say £560k is still possible to hit, so I am focusing on that now.  If that slips it might put my FIRE time line out (FIRE end 2022) and I might end up doing OMY.

December 2013: 142K
December 2014: 231K (+89K year on year, although numbers back this far are a bit fuzzy because my old student loan providers have wonky websites)
December 2015: 326K (+185K year on year, including self-financed wedding and 60K assessment paid mostly in cash)
December 2016: 511K (+185K year on year)
December 2017: 698K (+187K year on year)
March 2018: 667K
June 2018: 689K
July 2018: 723K  I guess I shouldn't be surprised given my husband's income struggles and how expensive
September 2018: 765K
October 2018: 721K. Down 44K this month. $1500 a day! Ooof.  I think I have invested about.... 100K this year (plus principal on my mortgage), and I have 23K of it to show. Condo valuation also went down a bit.

Net Worth
Quote
1/31/2016:       $254,591
...
7/30/2018:       $486,199
8/31/2018:       $502,494 (+16,295)
9/30/2018:       $519,994 (+17,500)
10/31/2018:     $520,014 (+20)

Surprisingly, my weak month was NOT due to the stock market fluctuations. (I only log quarterly.) It was due to buying a new roof, 2 health insurance payments in the same month (happens a lot when there's 31 days.) Also paid for an ER visit (scratched cornea) and partial payment for orthotics. (See, I AM old enough to retire!)

Although I don't like to see the big drop, it doesn't change anything about what I'm doing.  At least I got to stay in this thread for one more month!

Is this the weight loss thread?

OK, that was just funny and deserves a shout out.

AND, back in September I was SOOO CLOSE to 1M net worth I could taste it.  I was on personal capital every damn hour.  998.5K.  SOOO CLOSE.  Today I was happy to see that we were back over 950K again after being as low as 936K.  Well, since we buy funds every two weeks with our automated paychecks, we definitely got some on sale.

Rock on losers!

Joining the club.

...

Not sure when/if I'll get to 1m; may semi-FIRE before then.
...

If the market were to stay flat, would probably hit 1m investible around 6 months from now.
Quarterly update, November 2017:

....

Not declaring victory yet though until I have 1m investible and no debt to the bank.
Quarterly update, February 2018:

...

Quarterly update, May 2018:

...

So, net worth hits $1.5m for the first time.
Quarterly update, November 2018:

...

Net worth drops back down to where it was 6 months ago.
  • Q4 2018: 990k liquid + 389k home equity: total 1,379k (debt: 104k)
  • Q3 2018: 1,096k liquid + 384k home equity: total 1,480k (debt: 115k)
  • Q2 2018: 1,108k liquid + 392k home equity: total 1,500k (debt: 131k)
  • Q1 2018: 1,075k liquid + 409k home equity: total 1,484k (debt: 141k)
  • Q4 2017: 1,005k liquid + 332k home equity: total 1,337k (debt: 189k)
  • Q3 2017: 894k liquid + 313k home equity: total 1,207k (debt: approx 193k)
  • Q2 2017: 720k liquid + 250k home equity: total 970k (debt: approx 228k)
Down 9.3% from peak — in fact, lowest I've been since around a year before in Q4 2017 — due to market decline, spending on house, and income drying up. I expect things to fall even lower over the next quarter as I continue to spend on the house, but after that income should hopefully pick up and I'll be back on track (unless market crashes, in which case, time to buckle up).

1/1/18   - 633k / 1.000M
2/1/18   - 668k / 1.034M
3/1/18   - 660k / 1.028M
4/1/18   - 665k / 1.032M
5/1/18   - 673k / 1.037M
8/1/18  - 719k / 1.086M
9/1/18  - 748k / 1.116M

11/1/18  -  683k / 1.08M

Yes the markets have been turbulent, but the majority of the change has been due to the purchase of a new house.  We finally took the plunge to buy our FI house which is not too far from the current one.  It's about 60% smaller and with that will lead to annual savings of at least 5k on things like utilities, taxes, insurance, and hoa.  And likely much more than that when factoring in potential maintenance.  We are going to have 2 houses while we do some remodeling so it will definitely be a net negative on the finances for the next few months.

I happened to see the entry in my journal from October 2017 where the talltexan family passed $1 million. We're still above it, but these whipsaws from markets sure discourage you from checking daily.

cash+rental equity       add primary residence equity
1/2016      $507K                      $627K
1/2017      $625K                      $797K

9/2017      $784K                      $904K

12/2017    $762K                      $903K  - remodeling primary residence! When project is done, big increase in equity!

3/2018     $725K                       $866K - still remodeling. Framing and all exterior done, all bills paid! (to contractors)

6/2018     $763K                       $910K    Hmmm. Zillow values for rental properties went way up. Making progress on the remodel.  Plumbing, insulation, electrical done. Just drywall, flooring remains!

9/2018    $830K                       $945K   We're painting this weekend! Just flooring and trim left on the remodel!  Cash went up because we paid off a bunch of credit card debt with HELOC. (0%promo rate was ending)

1MM dates now   6/2021            7/2019

12/2018   $821K             $964K   Slow and steady progress on the remodel. Thinking about selling a rental in 1stQ or 2ndQ 2019.

Up 9k this month but still 19k off of highs.

Income is spotty over Nov/Dec while I am switching to S-CORP. Though my income should be UP some 1-2k per month in pure tax savings. This will more than make up for any lag in payments here over about 3-6 months.

DW also got a huge promotion and increased her pay by 50%, we should net an additional $1k a month there as well.

2019 is shaping up to be exciting assuming I can keep clients rolling!

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
