Yes please! I have a southbound PCT permit for this year starting July 23. I'm not sure how far I'll make it before the weather forces me off.

@oneday

Looks like you will go from 700k to 900k in a year! That is pretty remarkable!

I've always thought that this was a possibility (up 200k in a year) for me when I get more invested and there is a strong year in the market... looks like you are going to do it!

Congrats!

It was everything I hoped it would be and more. @LightStache, that is so exciting for you.

I started May 8th at the US/Mexico border and hiked straight through to around the California/Oregon state line before I had to start skipping around wildfires and smoke. I did make it up to Canada and completed 2000 of the 2650 total miles of trail. I'm planning on going back out sometime this summer to fill in the sections I missed.

Oh my gosh, I hadn't even noticed that! So focused on "almost 900K". Wow, that's really mind blowing.

I hope you get to experience this some day soon!!!

Well, I don't think I am going to win this race, but according to Vanguard I am now qualified to enter. $501,330.02 as of today. I didn't even notice I had crossed the threshold, but I am half a millionaire now. On paper anyway.

Yeah, looking at your January numbers you already did it... up 213k from Jan to Jan (895 - 682). That is awesome. But the round numbers of 700k to 900k seems really impressive to say!

This has to feel like the home stretch.

Welcome! I think most of us would say most of the "winning" was done by the time you got to our starting line. :).

Those are true words.  Unless you are 80+ years old.  Of course, that is still better than not having $500K.  I passed that mark last year in retirement accounts only.  It did feel like winning.

Bigger changes coming for us. I’m going back to full time work after about a year of 80%. We have started to actively search for a parcel of land to build the future downsized house, so wanted to earn some extra money for that goal and to pad the retirement stache for the next few years. Bittersweet for sure! So if we end up buying land our liquid number will change quite a bit.

Another great month for my side gig (down from Christmas/Black Friday, but still doing strong). At the very beginning of the month I did something quite drastic, and sold all my ETFs. Reason being is the threat of tariffs combined with the fact that I want to buy my first home... which I've already done with possession at the end of the month!

Will probably reenter the market once all the dust settles from the condo purchase, taxes, and upcoming surgery. But right now, I'm okay with being on the sidelines as I think it's going to be a very volatile next few years. The market is already modestly down from the point where I sold at, so I'm ahead so far.  (I know I can't time the market, but needed to do this to be comfortable buying a home).

It's good to see your history of NW to see the ups and downs. I had my first dip since i started tracking in Sep 2023 and when from 285k to 281k despite saving 7k.

It's a necessary lesson for me to learn. You've had a bunch of ups and downs in the journey and you've made great progress.

OMG the difference between 2022 and 2023! What a wild ride investing is... I better buckle up. It would be a bummer to save all year and invest and barely see the net worth move... but then you have a year like 2023!

It's good to see your history of NW to see the ups and downs. I had my first dip since i started tracking in Sep 2023 and when from 285k to 281k despite saving 7k.

It's a necessary lesson for me to learn. You've had a bunch of ups and downs in the journey and you've made great progress.

That's actually the main reason I track networth. I want to be able to see the down times and remember that everything is going to be ok. And when times are good I want to remember that won't last either. But over a long enough period of ups and downs I will get the market average, and that is better than anything else I could get.

I'd actually been avoiding looking at it all month.  It's not the worst change I've seen MoM since I started tracking, but it's probably top 5.  It's kind of crazy how much of a swing I'm seeing in a month.  A couple of years ago, that would have been the equivalent of losing half a year's salary.  It's not nearly as fun as gaining a half year's salary in a month, lol.

2024 Q2 - $514K INV / $731K TNW
2024 Q3 - $556K INV / $786K TNW
2024 Q4 - $589K INV / $835K TNW

3/1 - $618K INV / $863K TNW

Eh, I'm not mad given *gestures around* whatever this clusterf*#k is.

4/1 - $584 INV / $830K TNW

Just keep swimming - and screaming into the void.

I'm way less worried about this down market trend than I am about the eradication of education, early childhood, museums, libraries, public broadcasting, foreign aid, scientific research and research-based healthcare, affordable housing initiatives, freedom of speech and assembly, and, you know, democracy.

Down again. $1mm goal for the end of the year isn't looking in-sight right now, but I will be there soon enough. I'm still reminding myself that my 2020 projection had me at 750k at the end of this year (2025), so I'm still crushing it.

Meh.  It is what it is.

OMG the difference between 2022 and 2023! What a wild ride investing is... I better buckle up. It would be a bummer to save all year and invest and barely see the net worth move... but then you have a year like 2023!

So, that situation was complicated.  My husband had a rental property that he'd gotten from his dad.  I'd never included it in my NW because...reasons.  He died in late 2022 and I sold it in early 2023 and the proceeds went into my accounts and started showing up in my NW statement.  I still kind of consider it blood money.

@One Day Looking at your table looks like there have been a bunch of ups and downs on the journey. I was kind of wondering what the drop would look like with a big portfolio. I think you're still probably not too far from hitting your FI goal.

Totally. You can see it peaked over $500K four different times, and over $600K twice. It taught me to have an iron stomach! Well, maybe 2008 taught me that.

I hope you are right that I'm still close to goal. We'll just have to wait and see though!

2017: $2,474.33
2018: $33,203.90
2019: $68,192.96
2020: $130,715.91
2021: $296,922.14
2022: $400,055.05
Current: $519,129.00

Goals Breakdown
Q4 2023: $540K
Q1 2024: $580K
Q2 2024: $620K
Q3 2024: $660K
Q4 2024: $700K
Q1 2025: $740K
Q2 2025: $780K
Q3 2025: $820K

Q4 2025: $860K
Q1 2026: $900K
Q2 2026: $940K
Q3 2026: $980K
Q4 2026: $1M

November 18, 2023: $580,473.22 as of this morning. Small market upswing plus a fairly large payment from my business deal earlier this year means I hit both my Q4 2023 and Q1 2024 goals well in advance on paper. Some of this will be taken out for taxes, but it’s been a crazy month for progress toward my goals.

December 1, 2023: $603,891.35 as of today's paycheck. Approximately $27K of this is earmarked for taxes, so I'm sitting at around $576K "true" net worth. I've reached out to my CPA to see if I can to do anything before year end to reduce that bill.

January 18, 2024: $601,752.29 as of today. This is the adjusted "true" net worth after taking out the tax account I have earmarked (currently sitting just under $45k). So I'm well on my way to my Q2 goal of $620K early, but I also have a lot of work that needs to be done around the house. I just paid for a bathroom remodel, and have a lot of other work that needs to be done (water penetration issues and remediation). Overall doing well and feeling good about the progress I'm making.

February 12, 2024: Weird mid-month update I guess. $622,698.18 adjusted "true" net worth with earmarked taxes taken out of consideration. Hit Q2 goal already, but I likely won't hang onto it for too long since I still have a LOT of work around the house to get done. I'm hoping to keep the kitchen + flooring + drywall down to ~$25K or so but we'll see. Already $23K in this year between bathroom, re-grading the lawn, and installing gutters and french drains.

March 6, 2024: $628,383.97 for now after bathroom, re-grading lawn, and installing gutters and french drains at the house. Still have more work to do, but just glad NW is still mostly holding through the spending. I'll go ahead and mark my quarterly goal as met, ahead of the curve and still waiting on some disbursements.

April 8, 2024: $704,138.33. Still doesn't really feel real, but I'm going to keep my head down and keep moving forward.

June 4, 2024: $757,837.00. Missed the May update, can't believe it's already June. Hit Q1 2025 goal. I need to adjust my goals but it's hard to keep projecting increases when I'm not really sure when the "gravy train" comes to a halt. I'm keeping my head down, working, investing, and fixing up my damaged house. Not a whole lot else going on.

July 15, 2024: $835,443.55. Got a distribution that was long overdue from my OldBoss. About $30K of this will be going toward home renovations in the next month, I have a lot of damage that needs to be fixed. I feel like there's an end in sight with the home repairs and damage, at least, which is good. I'm about a year ahead of what I projected, but like I said, I still don't know when the rug is getting pulled.

September 3, 2024: $850,387.46. I totally forgot about August apparently with everything that has been going on. Been staying with my brother, and the house is nearly done (hopefully by the end of this week). I ended up doing some additional upgrades/work (all windows and sliding glass doors replaced) so the out of pocket was higher than the $30K originally anticipated, but overall very happy with the progress and still "up" in net worth despite dropping closer to 50-60K on all of the renovations.

September 27, 2024: $875,718.11. I guess the market jumped a bit. I feel like I'm continuing the march. Now that the home repairs are (mostly) done, I'll have some breathing room. I'll need to do the windows in the front unit of my house, but overall the big spending is done. Looking at tying the knot by the end of this year and doing a honeymoon trip in lieu of a wedding, then buckling down for the next chapter.

October 2024: $878,562.26

November 2024: $929,516.21

December 2024: $913,756.71

January 2025: $917,143.11

February 2025: $888,576.78

March 2025: $857,361.64

April 8, 2025: $785,303.00. Got super close in November, but it wasn't meant to be. I stopped posting for a few months because I wasn't really checking the markets and am just trying to weather whatever *this* is.

Down again. $1mm goal for the end of the year isn't looking in-sight right now, but I will be there soon enough. I'm still reminding myself that my 2020 projection had me at 750k at the end of this year (2025), so I'm still crushing it.

@Em-Dog What is your FIRE number? Once you get to a mil you have to be close right?

We will definitely be in a good spot once we get there. I don't know my exact number, I've just been trying to get to $1mm as "quick" as possible. I have started tracking expenses monthly so I can have an idea of my number, however we have a 2 year old and another due any day now. So costs (with childcare) are high right now, so it's hard to nail something down exactly. But we'd love to get to a spot where one of us (likely DH) can cut back or cover childcare part-time or something (financially, it isn't in our best interest right now, but we still toy with doing it anyways). I have a co-worker in her 50's who reminds me every few months to save every penny I can because when I get to be her age I'm going to want/need that flexibility, it's helpful to have a positive motivator! I have another co-worker who is gearing up for his 2 kids to enter the college years and he's been estimating the cost, and it's so variable depending on where they go (or don't go). So much to think about, but for now just focused on that $1m number!
