I can’t believe I’m here, but I’ve been really lucky. My side gig has been earning so much that my day job is a small fraction of my income lately. With the holiday season wrapping up, I’m not sure if I can keep this pace, but I’m hoping for steady extra income in the months ahead. For now, I’m just making the most of this rare opportunity.

A lot of this extra income is still pending payout and will fall into the 2025 tax year, so my exact net worth is up in the air. I’m planning to max out my Registered Retirement Savings Plan (RRSP) and contribute to my First Home Savings Account (FHSA)—this might finally be the year I buy a house! Man... what a crazy year. Here's what I got up to:
Bought a house for my parents
Got my biggest bonus ever (~$150K) as part of an equity buy-out at my firm
Lost a crap load of money in the market and crypto
Got a raise at work (+$25K annually in salary; +$35K variable potential, though likely will come in lower
Got bumped up in equity, which if we have another equity event could be life-changing
Tested out a few side hustles, and made ~$10K on them
First time introducing a partner to my parents

Overall, very grateful.

I've got a goal in the next year of making $1m in gross income (about double what I make now.) To be honest, I'm not quite sure how I'll get there, but I want it down on paper.

I am within my goal range. Not quite what I expected but... No argument. Last few months have been heavy spending. Some technical house work came due (in more ways then one) so... Not quite saving what I want but, it happens, and while expected, was not expected immediately. Meh, life happens, grab a mint, move on.

As for next year... I have one big project I want to tackle, but not sure if I can make that happen given other circumstances, we shall see. Otherwise I expect a new goal to be some where between $750-$770k and almost no new major spending outside the one big project. There is one carry over that is in progress. Not something I can do myself, unfortunately.

Thanks! I had to go back and recalculate as I had forgotten a couple of things. New net is 71.5%. Years ago when I was FT I pushed it to around 80%. Really got my ball rolling. Now Mr market does most of the work, but I still like to see how efficient I'm being with my income on an annual basis.

Cheers to another positive NW year! I'm up a decent 135K. Worked full-time for 8 months and part-time for 3 months, and saved $50K.

I probably dropped $10K to relocate, which ended up being temporary, and spent another $10K in equity when my car died this Summer.

Just back from the most expensive trip of my life - around $6-7K for 10 days - with a couple good friends. My feelings are mixed, but hopefully it'll be a great memory and the cost will be insignificant in the long run.

Appreciate you reminding me of the word efficiency. That has been the thing that helped me get dialed in on spending to get the savings rate up. I am getting close to the point that market gains are the real deal, but a solid two - three more years of savings will help.

Unbelievable to see numbers like this. Add in my wife and we're at $2.71M, a $705,800 increase in 365 days. It doesn't feel real, still have scarcity mindset. Our 1999 and 2007 vehicles both rolled over 200k miles in 2023 and at least 1 will likely be upgraded in 2024.

Updated with 2025 numbers. Agree with my previous sentiment, unbelievable to see numbers like this. We did indeed replace the 1999 with a $50k 2021 that makes me smile every time I drive it. Keep investing more than you spend!

Very close, but it's fragile! The $163K m/m increase is due to a surge in the price of FNMA/FMCC. It was also the cause of a long stretch of decreasing NW for most of last year, which was depressing. I have an exit plan as the price increases, but it'll be touch-and-go for awhile.

Getting ready for a potential blood bath in the markets though. We will carry on regardless! When I first started this journey at the end of 2020 my forecast had me hitting $1mm in August 2027, so even if we have a down year or a few I'm still on my original trajectory.
