Every month I'm disappointed when I get my number for this thread, until I see last month's posting and I'm always pleasantly surprised.

This is so true! For me this month was very "meh" in the market. Still, it was also a great month in terms of savings, and I'm up $25k. That's a lot more than my base salary. Half a year of projected retirement expenses. In a single month. I mean...

I saved ~$15k, and made an additional principal payment of $1,200 to my car loan. The rest is the market.

Now that I've maxed out my retirement accounts, the fun begins as I've started sending money to my brokerage account. July was the first month I had a paycheck above a couple hundred dollars 😂

Jan 2017  $275k
Jan 2018 $356k
Jan 2019 $447k
Jan 2020 $559k (433 liquid + 126 prop)
Jun 2020 $560k (440 liquid + 120 prop)
Jan 2021 $745k ($545k liquid)
June 2021 $913k ($675k liquid)

The stock market and housing insanity has just blown our net worth through the roof. It seems unreal.

July 2021 $1,003,776 ($750k liquid)

Breaking cycle to celebrate this little milestone. I call it millionaire status with a little m because it's real estate +liquid that puts us there. Big M is for when liquid assets hit the milestone.

I think I will hang around here for a bit longer before popping my head in the next thread... It doesn't feel like I've earned the right to post in the other thread yet for some bizarre reason riding this weird wave of housing/stock market boom in a pandemic.

Is there a millionaire imposter syndrome? Asking for a friend :)

Looks like you ought to change trend line data subset. You've been doing major work the last 4 years and the line doesn't reflect it. Or if you want to include all time pick non linear.

Apr 2017: 175k NW
Apr 2018: 333k
Apr 2019: 400k
Feb 2020: 515k
Aug 2020: 602k (415k invested)
Dec 2020: 669k (478k)
Jan 2021: 690k (507k)
Mar 2021: 716k (529k)
Apr 2021: 751k (551k)
May 2021: 787k (576k)
Jun 2021: 807k (592k)
Jul 2021: 833k (611k)
Aug 2021: 831k (625k)

Had much higher home improvement expenses in July, with a drop in home "value" (per Zillow) to make the NW go down.  But honestly, I don't really care about that number as long as investments are going up.  And they have increase 200k+ in one year.  That's mind blowing to me.

Net Worth // Invested Assets
1/1/21 - $500,317 // $346,651
2/1/21 - $513,258 // $355,473
3/1/21 - $531,847 // $366,107
4/1/21 - $548,364 // $380,740
5/1/21 - $568,829 // $408,712
6/1/21 - $569,723 // $408,351
7/1/21 - $612,700 // $431,974

8/1/21 - $625,715 // $412,017

We have to move (hence the drop in investments).  Terrible timing, but hopefully we can make up for it when we sell our current house.

I'm just waiting for a bear market to start so we're all stuck here for years and then disappear in a day, springing into the 2m thread completely skipping the 1-2.

Hello, I'm new here - just moving from the 'Race from 250k to 500k' tread.

About me:  I've started tracking our assets on Mint in July 2016.  That's pretty much when I discovered MMM and it has been instrumental in our progress.

There have been several challenges in these five years:  In 2017 I lost my job, right after we sold our tiny condo and bought a more expensive suburban home - and I was not able to find another job for several long and anxious months.  Then in 2020 my husband lost his job, due to Cobid-19 closures; he just started his own construction company this year and is yet to get established.  We are not high earners, we live in a very HCOL area, and have a high-schooler that will be going to college in 2 years.

Despite these challenges, we've made good progress.  We've more than doubled our non-equity assets in 5 years, reaching 1/2 mil a couple months ago.  My hope is that we can reach 1 mil. by 2029 - 8 years from now; which is much slower doubling rate than previously, but that considers that we'll be paying for daughter's college.

                      retirement    total non-equity
July 2016:      $150,350      $204,450 (start of tracking)
Dec 2016:      $167,700      $219,800
Dec 2017:       $207,000      $315,150
Dec 2018:       $235,600      $324,150
Dec 2019:       $301,200      $386,700
Dec 2020:       $360,000      $467,400
July 2021:       $414,700      $520,600

If anyone here has experience in how paying for child's college has impacted their progress to FIRE, I'd like to hear it!

I guess that's me graduating out of this thread, might be back if we see a correction I guess. 26 months to go from 250k to 500k, 37 months to go from 500k to $1M. Projecting out it looks like it will take 47 months to go from $1M to 2M, but who knows!?

I really wasn't expecting this until December/January this year. Money printers are running hot I guess, and you have to think about it in that context. Your savings buys less of an 'annuity' than it used to, so while posting these numbers is great, it's kind of frustrating that the money I save each month doesn't buy me as much 'passive income' as it used to.

Still, will be going out to dinner to celebrate this milestone.

After today's paycheck, we are over $500k in just stocks/bonds now!
Next stop - $500k in just stocks. Another year?

first post $770k invested, small chance 1 million end of next year. Investing 74k a year.

I got some cash I might dump in to get this number up. $180k equity in house plus cash puts me just over $1 million NW.

I'm inching closer to the $900k mark ($885k  today) and the closer it gets, the slower it feels (narrator: *it's not slow*).

Will it change anything? Nope. Is it an important milestone? Nope. I'm still 8 years away from my RE number, and I know that unless the market tanks, it will happen in September anyway when I get my bonus.

BUT I STILL WATCH IT LIKE A HAWK.

Anyone else obsessing over stupid meaningless milestone or am I the only crazy one?

OK, i'm going out for a run.

Help.

When last I left, I had the temporary experience of having hit $1M in investments. Yes, it was Feb 2020. And then Covid crash. I disappeared, didn't look at things, and kept doing what I was doing, which, unfortunately, was spending money on a house that was mid-renovation. Contractor was able to get through enough of it that we could move in during July and sell our old place. Never figured on carrying both houses for that long, but never figured on a global pandemic either.

Anyway, here's the old count with a most recent update. And with that, I'll bid this, my favorite gauntlet, adieu. Hope to see many of you over in the $1-2M gauntlet soon.

date         NW        Investments
4/3/14     $430k         $225k
9/19/14    $500k         $275k
11/6/14    $550k         $300K
5/9/15     $600k         $341k
4/13/16    $650k         $375k
9/7/16     $700k         $410k
5/6/17     $750k         $674k (*I think I lost history on one of our accounts prior to this)
9/9/17     $800k         $717k
11/22/17   Assets hit $1M
12/15/17   $850k         $770K
3/10/18    $900k         $770k (refinanced house, put $ in and moved from 30 to 15 yrs)
6/16/18    $950k         $818k
12/26/18   $900k         $750k
1/10/19    $950k         $803k
2/19/19    $1M !!!       $856k
6/12/19    $1.05M        $900k
10/9/19    $1.08M        $895k (downpayment on house and market misery)
12/31/19   $1.16M        $974k
2/12/20    $1.19M        $1M !!!
bad, scary, viral things happened, house stuff, then back at it
8/13/21    $1.46M        $1.27M

I'm still here at 633k invested and thinking of abandoning tracking our other assets in this race. We're never planning to move, and the cash will be spent or invested. That leaves some small pensions, but I won't consider us actually FI until we have 1m invested.

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
