The saga of 2020 continues.  We bought a car this month so that was fun.  It was "used" with 13 miles on it, one dealer bought it from another dealer at auction and had to title it.  Flew across the country and road tripped it 2k miles back home in 2 days.  This is really a "fun" car and won't hold it's value too well so it was important to me to get a good deal on it.  We got it for about 33% off of MSRP and nothing in our local area comps anywhere close to what we purchased it for as the fully loaded model, even base models comp out higher.  I added it to our assets lists with a depreciated value of what it should be worth in 4 years so our NW wasn't affected by it too much.

End of      NW           Change

12/13:   $41,032

I asked my husband last night if he ever thought he'd be a millionaire.  No.  No, he did not.

I plan to stay here (indefinitely) because I'd rather my million be actual money rather than net worth (although it's still really cool to be a millionaire on some scale).

Welcome to all of our new folks.  Glad you could join us!

Very humbled to have made it into this thread following the sale of our primary residence.

Starting out with $576168 and hoping to make it to $600k by the time we move across the pond to Europe later this year. Our plan is to only marginally touch this stashe in the next 3-5 years which will hopefully allow it to grow towards that million dollar mark.
Ended July with $593503. Just turned in my resignation effective mid September so my high growth months are numbered. Hoping to see $620k before we start the extended sabbatical.

We also made a car purchase for cash of £17.5k which has knocked down the numbers here (but transferred over to our overall Net Worth figure which includes the house equity).

Hey Tall Texan (fellow Texan here)

I was 80/20, moved to 70/30 in early February.  Maxing out the 401 and the Roth as well.

@drumstache , that timing sounds like it was...fortuitous. Nicely done!

I lived in San Marcos for sixteen years (my parents are still there), and went to college in San Antonio for four.

Why hello big pond, small fish here shocked at the prospect of actually tracking towards two commas.

You can read my resume below, and if the market cooperates I plan on hanging out until my 35th birthday (2 years).

-25,000 -> 100,000 was done in 10 months
100,000 -> 250,000 was done in 15 months
250,000 -> 500,000 was done in 16 months
500,000 -> 1,000,000 should be 24 months

My current compensation is about double what I'm used to making, but is inextricably tied to very low job security and Canadian politics so I feel privileged every week when I invest. I have one kid with plans for a second during this window as well.

I'll be chasing up above the next group so won't be FIRE'ing from here but am excited nonetheless.

Only tracking personal liquid stash and do not include my wife's savings or any Real Estate equity at this point

@dreadmoose

We seem to be on fairly parallel paths, although your income (or savings) alone appears to be what my wife and I make combined.

Took us about the same amount of time to go from 250k > 500k and we're also just entering this race. You're 6k ahead currently, but not for long if I can help it!

Paid for an expensive elective surgery on CC last month so will be paying off that bill this month.  It has completely improved quality of life so it was worth it but will slow savings this next month.  Just keep chugging along.

@dreadmoose

We seem to be on fairly parallel paths, although your income (or savings) alone appears to be what my wife and I make combined.

Took us about the same amount of time to go from 250k > 500k and we're also just entering this race. You're 6k ahead currently, but not for long if I can help it!

Ooh, exciting!

My wife earns well normally but is currently on Maternity leave. With plans for a second soon she actually slows down my savings a little bit, so it's on BFTFI!

@Trifele thanks for the welcome! I've been eyeing this thread as the most exciting part of the stash building so it feel nice to finally be in here.

Hi! I never post here, but Iím pretty sure today is the day that my husband and I hit a million dollars on our road to FI. We wonít know officially until tomorrow morning since the TSP doesnít update until then, but we were only a couple thousand away, and we figure todayís market increase was enough to clinch it.

We went out to dinner to celebrate, but itís a lonely milestoneódefinitely not anything we plan to talk to friends or family about. But oh my god, it is so wonderful to be that much closer to being able to FIRE and escape our dreadful jobs forever.

I love this forum and all of you and am so grateful for a place where such things can be discussed while friends and family are none the wiser :-D

Best wishes for everyoneís path to FIRE!

I know what you mean about the "lonely milestone". There is just no easy way to share it with someone. I even find myself under-reporting assets with my financial advisor because I don't want him trying to pitch us investment products that will result in him earning more fees from us.

It's been awhile and times have been strange but we keep chugging along, with a steady upward trajectory:

Aug 2020 - $915k
Sep 2019 - $780k
Sep 2018 - $656k
Sep 2017 - $538k
Sep 2016 - $330k

December's number is $820k! Still think we're looking at 2021 but the last few months have been productive.

A year has passed and we move slowly upward (other than this month, anyway, we bought a van):

Oct 2019 - $770k
Sep 2019 - $780k
Jul 2019 - $766k
Apr 2019 - $739k
Oct 2018 - $666k
Sep 2018 - $656k
July 2018 - $651k
June 2018 - $634k
May 2018 - $624k
Apr 2018 - $612k
Mar 2018 - $599k
Feb 2018 - $590k
Jan 2018 - $580k
Dec 2017 - $569k
Nov 2017 - $561k
Oct 2017 - $546k
Sep 2017 - $538k
Aug 2017 - $497k
July 2017 - $483k
Jun 2017 - $479k
May 2017 - $454k
Apr 2017 - $448k
Mar 2017 - $435k
Feb 2017 - $433k
Jan 2017 - $410k
Oct 2016 - $370k
Sep 2016 - $330k

Hoping to get to a mill by 2021!

Quite a nice jump again.  Side hustle money from delivery gig work added a thousand or so along with lowered expenses due to COVID keeping us home and us not spending to do things out as much as we do adding a bit, but the majority of this would have been market gains.  Of the $108K change over 90 days, $94K is market related as I look at my Personal Capital details.  After taking out a $5K gift we received the $9K increase over three months is accounted for for the same reasons.  Glad to have broken the $800K barrier and looking forward to further progress as currently already up over $10K since the start of August so we'll see if that hold through the end of the month.

Just crossed over $500k for the stache this past month, so I'll jump in on the race.

Started tracking:
Jan 16: $181.2k

Feb 19: $532.8k

Update to April 1st. $546.25k

Update to October 1st: $620.15k

Feb 1. 20: $710.5k
March 1 20: $685.7k
Apr 1 20: $605.9k
May 1 20: $693.4k

June 1 20: $724.5k

Back up for the year (of course this counts a decent chunk of contributions too).

Aug 1 20: $789.1k

I've decided to prioritize paying down the mortgage a bit more for the guaranteed 3.375% return and to get it paid off in the next ~5ish years. So my growth here may slow down as this only counts our investments.

$991,000- Posted on March 12 right before the huge crash. Didn't think we would ever get to $1 mil due to being furloughed.
$1,007,000- Posted on May 26th. First time we realized we passed $1 mil. Got lucky because I reallocated most of our investments to bonds and started moving the funds back to Index slowly.
$1,050,000- As of Aug 11th. Thank God we have about 80% of our investments back in Index during this run up. Who knew with our economy in shamble that the SP is almost back to its high.

We have roughly about $325k our of $395k back in Indexes. That's 82%.
We have another $65k of cash that I would love to go toward Indexes but the market is a bit scary right now.
LOL, I'm still furloughed and collecting UE. What a great year this could have been with my wife making $50k and myself $120k.
Can't complain. Enjoying the extended layoff.

I'm so excited and have to share here as I can't share anywhere else.  Today we officially put our toe over the 1M dollar mark!!  I'm sure we'll tip back and forth for a while so I'll stay in this group until we hold steady but it's the first time I've seen TWO commas on my investments!

Note: this excludes home value and kids college funds.

NIIIICE!!!  Congrats @asauer !

Congrats! We crossed $1M net worth in April 2019, including house.

Now, we are at $590k in investments!!! So close to $600k. I have already saved $26k in my 401k this year (yay 50!), so I know I can save at least another 10k before the year's out.

I find myself thinking how great it will be to "save my first million".

Sometimes I worry about stealth wealth but a funny thing happens when you drive a very old (yet awesome) car or ride a bike, it's like an invisibility cloak haha. People can't fathom you'd do that voluntarily.

Quarterly:
10/1/18 $502K
01/1/19 $480K - this was all market drop; no change to savings behavior
04/1/19 $546K
07/1/19 $579K
10/1/19 $586K - pulled a chunk out of our HSA to pay for childbirth costs incurred earlier in the year; also started daycare; husband took 2 months unpaid paternity leave... savings rate currently in the toilet

Includes home equity. Doesn't include roughly $30K in cash.

Anticipated graduation: mid-2023

Haven't been updating regularly, but enjoying looking at progress right now!

Net worth progress (includes home equity; does not include roughly $30k in cash)

10/1/18 $502K

01/1/19 $480K - this was all market drop; no change to savings behavior
04/1/19 $546K

10/1/19 $586K - pulled a chunk out of our HSA to pay for childbirth costs incurred earlier in the year; also started daycare; husband took 2 months unpaid paternity leave... savings rate currently in the toilet

1/1/20 $650K
4/1/20 $678K
7/1/20 $689K

Anticipated graduation for net worth: mid-2022 (holy heck -- that's a whole year shaved off from my last update. Making faster progress than anticipated.)

Also just graduated from the $250k-$500k thread, where I was watching investments-only. So here's the start of investments-only, without home equity and without cash on hand:

8/1/20 $508K

Anticipated graduation: January 2024

Joining this race!!

As of 8/13- Liquid NW is $700,373* after selling home. Woohoo...I want to post here so I can track how soon we reach $1 million.

*Excludes equity in rental properties and equity in primary residence.

Updated to clarify what the figure excludes.

Jumping into this race behind Mrs. Sloth!

Fell off from the previous race for a while with the arrival of our first child.  Less money was going into investments and I hardly had time to think in my desperate quest to get sleep as a new parent. But VTSAX didn't need much input from me so after a year and half break, during which I did invest here and there, I find myself joining the fun with:

05/01/2017:  $198,456
05/15/2017:  $200,404
05/31/2017:  $207,044
06/15/2017:  $213,996
07/05/2017:  $219,933
07/17/2017:  $225,853
08/01/2017:  $228,504
08/24/2017:  $228,854
09/01/2017:  $237,500
09/19/2017:  $245,500
10/02/2017:  $251,933
11/07/2017:  $266,000
12/27/2017:  $280,000
01/12/2018:  $300,768
01/23/2018:  $305,566
11/27/2018:  $359,000
03/01/2019:  $400,283
08/15/2020:  $612,831 (DW and my investment accounts only)

Yes!  We are also stealth wealth, people don't get why we don't have a golf membership, new cars or a boat, lol.

Itís far better to be rich than to appear rich.  But that is what trips up most people; they want so desperately to look rich to other people.

Jumping in after dropping the progress threads for a while:

NW:
April 2017: 175k
April 2018: 333k
April 2019: 400k
February 2020: 515k (today)

There are a few of us who are newer around here. Welcome, welcome!

I neglected to respond and thank you for the welcome! And I'll add a "milestone" update:

NW:
April 2017: 175k
April 2018: 333k
April 2019: 400k
February 2020: 515k
August 2020: 602k (415k invested/$50k cash)

I've noticed that I'm much more interested in the amount invested than total NW these days, but hitting 600k is nice. It might be fair to say that while we aren't FI, traditional retirement is fully funded and we don't have worry about money anymore. It's surreal, as this was probably the main goal when I started with MMM

LOL, I'm still https://forum.mrmoneymustache.com/Themes/default/images/bbc/ftp.giffurloughed and collecting UE. What a great year this could have been with my wife making $50k and myself $120k.
Can't complain. Enjoying the extended layoff.

I found an older 3/28 spreadsheet that showed more exact numbers.
Its been a crazy 5 months. I don't think 1 single person would have guessed that in AUG 2020 the SP500 would pass its previous high already
I'm not gonna lie. I had a lot of my investments on the sideline and were slowing moving them back. I had a bunch of cash too that I would have dumped into Index but I didn't think the SP would regain all its losses that quickly.
Also had to spend $8K fixing the roof and various stuff on the rental.
Can't complain though. Been furloughed from a $120k job since 3/19.
