Alright, time to derail my FIRE plans :)

We just bought a house and spent a bit more than we wanted to but WOW it's amazing. Surely will hault savings for a month or two here with odds and ends. Our monthly costs will increase around 1.5k a month instead of the expected 1k. So $500 more for 10x the house. To put this in perspective, we make 12k a month after taxes and were spending a whopping $1k on our current mortgage for our tiny townhouse. So we were looking at 2000-2500 now. We ended up on the higher end of that.

Either way, we pushed out fire PROBABLY 2-3 years by moving at all, and maybe 6 months of that is due to the overbudget purchase part. We were thinking 3 years, probably in the 5-6 club now.

I made peace with this :)

Hey Anon, congrats on the new place. No facepunches here.

It's all about living the life you want while being conscientious about your financial choices. It looks like you are doing exactly that. Well Done.

Thanks! We are soooooooo excited. Plus, I am exaggerating the FIRE delay a bit to be facetious. It was really only 3-600 a month more, even then, its literally 100x better in my internal rating system :) ha.

On a side note, its pretty awesome to have the bank question you for assets and showing that you could literally buy the house in a truck sized load of cash. I guess I have this forum to partially thank for that.

---
As a fun mathematical side project it would be interesting to see differing FIRE dates if we would have had bought this before saving our $600k~ stache vs now vs post fire.

My guess is that because we pre-saved so much it will hardly matter now (hence the 2-3 year guess). Around 30-50% of our yearly NW increase is probably growth at this point, something we won't lose. (a 10% move is a whopping $50-60,000 for doing literally nothing)

So, just over 1 month since I posted here last, it looks like I must leave you.

We have passed the $1,000,000 mark in net worth. Don't have the exact number yet, as I need some numbers from husband, but we've definitely passed over onto the other side.

Several of you are on my tail, so I'll see you over in the 1-2M challenge thread soon.

Keep on going!!

         Investments/cash     Net worth

05/18 - $503,164               $742,902
06/18 - $506,463               $747,871
07/18 - $520,768               $764,243
08/18 - $542,574               $787,745
09/18 - $541,489               $788,357
10/18 - $518,567               $766,694
01/19 - $522,773               $776,499
02/19 - $544,291               $799,739
03/19 - $551,251               $808,455

05/19 - $547,963               $811,636
06/19 - $588,500               $853,525

7/19 - $601,555           $867,945

Ah, that investments/cash number is LOVELY.  There's something magical about $2,000 a month.  It seems like it's enough to live on...maybe not what I WANT to live on, but it seems like I COULD if I had too.  I know it could take a huge dive tomorrow (not that I'd know until the end of the month), but it's lovely today.

Long overdue update. I stopped working for 5 months from December to April, because I hated my job too much (story of my life).

Also, I decided to include equity portion of rental condo into Investments. 2019 is looking good, especially since both my GF and I are back to work full time!

Not sure when/if I'll get to 1m; may semi-FIRE before then.
If the market were to stay flat, would probably hit 1m investible around 6 months from now.
Not declaring victory yet though until I have 1m investible and no debt to the bank.
Net worth is clearly north of $1m now, and we even have more than $1m invested/investible, but still not debt free
So, net worth hits $1.5m for the first time.
Net worth drops back down to where it was 6 months ago.
Down 9.3% from peak
Liquidity down, home equity up, debt down, savings rate 0% so totally reliant on market returns to get back above 1m in investible/invested assets.

Quarterly update for Q2 2019:

  • Q2 2019: 860k liquid + 466k home equity: total 1,326k (debt: 40k)
  • Q1 2019: 877k liquid + 440k home equity: total 1,317k (debt: 46k)
  • Q4 2018: 990k liquid + 389k home equity: total 1,379k (debt: 104k)
  • Q3 2018: 1,096k liquid + 384k home equity: total 1,480k (debt: 115k)
  • Q2 2018: 1,108k liquid + 392k home equity: total 1,500k (debt: 131k)
  • Q1 2018: 1,075k liquid + 409k home equity: total 1,484k (debt: 141k)
  • Q4 2017: 1,005k liquid + 332k home equity: total 1,337k (debt: 189k)
  • Q3 2017: 894k liquid + 313k home equity: total 1,207k (debt: approx 193k)
  • Q2 2017: 720k liquid + 250k home equity: total 970k (debt: approx 228k)

So at this point my savings rate is still stuck at 0%, house will soon be paid off, and still reliant on market returns. I am probably going to stop reporting quarterly results and will switch to once-a-year from here on out. See you all in January 2020!

We finally broke $900k! I typically update here every quarter, but we spent so long dithering in the $800kís that I just wanted to do a little happy dance here with people who get it.

Seven long months. Which really isnít that long, but last year with the stock market boost we only spent four months in the 600s at the beginning of the year, so it just felt long this time.

August Update,  a little drop but still on track.  I'm changing my investing/FIRE plan a little. because I believe I'll have enough invested to be FI in 3 years without my home payment, I'm diverting my overtime money to my house payment while still maxing all investments (401k, IRA, HSA).  I should be able to have my house paid off in 3 years at age 49 and then we'll be FI.  The plan is not to fully retire and quit all jobs.  My wife will quit, I'll still work my job but without any overtime (luckily it's not mandatory), because I love my job, it pays good, has great benefits and I work 7 days on 7 days off so I have tons of time off to have fun and just LIVE LIFE.    Needless to say, I'm feeling great about all this.

Bit of a dip this month, not as much as I had feared. The ongoing issues with Brexit and US / China trade war is not helping matters.

Still hoping we can get to the important £600k mark by November.

Hello all! Excited to surpase the 500k mark and start setting my sites on 1M.

Managed to barely stay above 500k NW this month.  I also need to come up with goal to reach 1M. I think if we coasted it would happen in 5 or 6 years.  Maybe we can push that down to 3 or 4 years.

12/13:   $41,032
12/14:   $106,801    $65,769

Ok time for us to join the race!  We just crossed 500k NW. I am not sure how long it will take us to get to the big 1M$, I am hoping 10 years or so?  Probably in for a correction soon, but here we go!

9/1/2019 - 500k
