I haven't regularly posted a running log like many here, but this is an exciting milestone to hit so I thought I'd share (brag) here, since I can't share it with most people in my life. I'm just too excited not to talk about it somewhere, even though it always feels a little unseemly to me. These are net worth numbers, index funds plus emergency cash. I don't have any home equity or debt.

01/01/15: $0
04/09/17: $100,000 (2y,  3mo)
02/04/19: $200,000 (1y, 10mo)
02/15/20: $300,000 (1y,  0mo)
12/03/20: $400,000     (10mo)
07/01/21: $500,000      (7mo)

I noted how long each hundred grand took to reach. The consistent acceleration of the pace is really unbelievable. It doesn't hurt that we've been living through this endless bull of asset inflation. It only took ten months to get from 300k to 400k, despite the pandemic panic hitting shortly after the 300k milestone. Surely there's no way this party will last forever. I expect I'll have to fall back below one or more of these milestones soon enough. If I had a high confidence of average real returns going forward, which is to say 6%+ ($30k+ in today's dollars), I'd quit my job today. As it stands, I'll keep working until either we get through a real recession period, or I reach truly wild levels of depression-proof wealth. In the meantime, I'm starting to feel secure enough that I might start behaving more like a confident "SWAMI" at work, instead of a fearful subservient wage slave suck-up.

Congrats to my fellow $500k graduates, Finwiz and joe189man.

It is like you took the thoughts right out of my head. In the last year my net worth is up 50% and my cash investments over 100%. I know that savings is a powerful tool & I hardly spent an unnecessary dime in 2020, but that can't possibly explain how fast these numbers have grown. I'm trying to take it all with a grain of salt, half expecting that some of these gains may eventually reverse themselves or at least stagnate for a time at least. In the meantime, I'm glad I saved what I could before this market run started...

Congratulations!  Its not unseemly here...it's encouraging for your fellow forum-ites.

I enjoyed your timeline analysis.  I might go back and look at mine.  I started quite a bit before you and have managed to reach depression proof wealth (at least in my own mind).  It's a really remarkable feeling.  I have confidence you will achieve it!

I've been busy moving out of the higher cost of living suburbs and to a place where the money goes a lot farther when buying real estate. Because of this I didn't get a change to post the last few months. Looks like the markets graduated me from this thread even before the influx of money taken out of my old home's equity. It also looks like the market has a lot of other people in this topic graduating up as well.  See you all there...

Starting off slow this year due to some unexpected expenses and wife unemployed the past 2 months. Really going to push more the next half of the year, especially now that she started a new position that pays much better than her prior job.

1/31/21 - $257,360
2/28/21 - $253,769
3/31/21 - $270,121
4/30/21 - $279,524
5/31/21 - $277,736

Numbers updated thru the last day of the month.  I only post my TSP numbers.  Nothing else.  But I may revamp this to show the wife’s account as well.
I stuck to my strategy, and laid low for the majority of June. And popped back in for some gains when I was ready to do so. .

I hit the $250K goal I set for myself to hit in December 2021 —many months ahead of schedule.  So with that; I guess a new goal will be $280k.  I’ve pulled in gains above the 20% mark thus far for the year.  So hopefully I can keep the trend going and perhaps gain another 10%.  I’m excited to see how the next 7 months treat my accounts.

My target is to graduate in 4 1/2 years by mid 2025 when liquid assets cross $500k.
DateLiquid AssetsFixed AssetsTotal Assets
11/30/20 $278,000 $92,000 $360,000
12/31/20 $293,094 $96,705 $380,799
06/30/21 $358,037 $150,000 $508,037

I contributed $20k the liquid assets consisting of 401k's and IRAs. Rest is the market gains.
The fixed assets are an approximate number. I use Zillow to estimate the value of my properties and my equity in the properties.

I would like to join this race.  Love that we all get to be winners!!  Can anyone say participation trophy?

I'm racing with my Savings, not my NW.

End of:
2015 - 5800 - Found MMM

2016 - 56,145

2017 - 104,485

2018 - 134,864

2019 - 174,932

2020 - 220,850

Currently - 274,240

There's been some ups and downs with the savings rates and some job changes in there.  But 2021 should be a solid 50% savings year and a good income, Woohoo double double!!

Welcome to the race!

Yes, we all get to be winners. But the prize is a big 'ole pile of stache - much better than a participation trophy!

Another good month with nice market returns and Company shares being deposited. Looks like my year end goal of 385k is attainable with a stretch goal of 400k.

Woah just noticed it was exactly 1 year since I joined this race. A one year increase of 107k is absolutely bonkers to me.

Net worth consists of equity portfolio, two rental properties, and cash (checking/savings). Liabilities are month-to-month credit card (PIF every month), two mortgages on rental properties, and what’s left of my wife’s student loans.

2019
January $87k
February $95k
March $95k
April $98
May $95
June $104
July $106
August $115
September $118
October $134
November $136
December $143

2020
January $153 (Got back on YNAB after a few years off - this, along with market tailwinds made 2020 an amazing year)
February $159
March $152 (Market crash and start of recovery)
April $172
May $187
June $187 (Bought a 2012 Toyota Sienna for $8,200)
July $202
August $206
September $207
October $215
November $233
December $234

2021
January $241
February $246
March $255
April $267
May $290
June $303

July $325k

Raised rent on one of my properties for the first time in three years, and my other one is about to rent for 15% more than the last tenant. Both of these are really helpful because I’ve had to make several repairs in the past six months. All in all, things are looking up.

Joining you all here in this race! I put it in some of my old posts but I had been saving for a house down-payment and scratched that idea late 2020 and started putting all the cash into my investments, that's why I sped so quickly through the last race.

@InvincibleChutzpah August will be your month.

Oh for sure! It's been my projected month for a while and I'm glad I'll likely meet that. I was a little bummed that July wasn't my month. My employer was bought out and during the 401k switch over our contributions were halted. Then I ended up using most of what wasn't lost to taxes on some extra spending (paying for my upcoming wedding). I know that one month is nothing in the long run, but I was looking forward to graduating a little early. Here's hoping the stock market does well this month and I cross the finish line.

Another good month. Some house expenses coming up in August (new heater and outside painting), so not sure if I can hit 400K next month.

You are killing it this year! Amazing savings, you will be out of this race in no time.

Thanks @Epor, I hope I can keep this up. Bonuses are concentrated in the first part of the year so I will not expect the same pace for the rest of the year.

I know what you mean. With the market going so crazy these last 18 months, a little voice in the back of my head whispers to me: $500K by December! Even though my projection was Fall 2022, I'm sure to be feeling as you do in Dec if I don't get there.

My last post was in November 2019, when our Net Worth was $372,500.  I go through periods of obsessing over our financial status and months of going on auto-pilot and not really checking, as our savings strategy is being implemented with automatic deposits to the 401k, IRA, and 529K accounts.  And our spending is, well, as usual, more that I'd like - a constant struggle between the desire for frugality and the needs of life in an extremely HCOL area.

So here I am in the "obsessing" phase, only to find out that we have GRADUATED FROM THIS TREAD!  That was back on 5/30/2021, when our non-equity assets minus liabilities (retirement, 529k, and cash) first exceeded 500k.

The challenges of the last two years (2020- duh): husband's lost of job due to the Covid-19 crisis, which reduced our income quite a bit; and his starting a construction business in 2021.  We are not expecting much profit this year as he is trying to establish his company, if he can bring in 50K after expenses, that'd be a success.

                      retirement    total non-equity
July 2016:      $150,350      $204,450 (start of tracking)
Dec 2016:      $167,700      $219,800
Dec 2017:       $207,000      $315,150
Dec 2018:       $236,800      $324,150
Dec 2019:       $283,300      $372,500
Dec 2020:       $301,227      $467,407
July 2021:       $414,703      $520,603

So in summary, we doubled our retirement assets in 4.5 years, and multiplied our total non-equity by 2.5 in five years.

I will be moving to the 'Race from 500k to 1 mil' tread - and hope to see you there soon!

Congratulations Solon and Eastern.  I'm so happy for you both!!!

Solon I know what you mean with the impostor syndrome thing.  I always think "This can't be real, I'm not saving this kind of real money".  I keep waiting for someone to tell me I've made a mistake and put me back in a place where I'm financially fearful all the time.

Have fun with the race to becoming a millionaire!!!!!!
