This is now Net Worth and includes debts of $1500. This is on credit cards that are paid off monthly. Previously I didn't include these for no reason.

Net worth consists of equity portfolio, two rental properties, and cash (checking/savings). Liabilities are month-to-month credit card (PIF every month), two mortgages on rental properties, and what’s left of my wife’s student loans.

2019
January $87k
February $95k
March $95k
April $98
May $95
June $104
July $106
August $115
September $118
October $134
November $136
December $143

2020
January $153 (Got back on YNAB after a few years off - this, along with market tailwinds made 2020 an amazing year)
February $159
March $152 (Market crash and start of recovery)
April $172
May $187
June $187 (Bought a 2012 Toyota Sienna for $8,200)
July $202
August $206
September $207
October $215
November $233
December $234

2021
January $241
February $246
March $255
April $267
May $290

June $303k

My stretch goal at the beginning of the year was to hit $300k. I keep finding that my most optimistic goals are wildly too conservative. A high savings rate, plus stock and housing market tailwinds, plus a few small windfalls keep blowing through what I think is possible. I think I might be able to hit $350 by end of year, and possibly graduate this challenge in three.

I'm close to reaching my goal for 2025 (300K), which is surreal.  But I remind myself that between now and then there will also be down months and sideways months--or years.

Mid month update - promo bonus and a raise hitting this coming Friday, which should make things hopefully move a little quicker. Also realized that an account was missed /not previously included in our totals (with another ~$9,000 in it), all of which feels like it has barely moved the needle thanks to the market gyrations:

1/01/21 - $400,149
2/14/21 - $427,486 (+$27,337)
3/01/21 - $443,490 (+$43,341)
3/19/21 - $451,670 (+$51,521)
3/31/21 - $458,005 (+$57,856)
4/15/21 - $470,187 (+$70,038)
4/30/21 - $475,833 (+$75,684)
5/15/21 - $486,446 (+$86,297)

Projected out, need to do $13,354 by October ($3,012 per month) to hit the initial goal - but still really hoping to graduate sometime in June.

5/28/21 - $497,565 (+$97,416)

So close, was hoping we might have hit it by end of the month/Memorial Day. Hopefully June it is.

6/5/21 - $505,428 (+$105,279).

Guess we technically graduated? Probably going to hang around for a bit longer to make sure we stay in the next class before moving up. Now to hit a mill in 3 years from today, June 2024.

Loved seeing the long format for growth here in this thread. I suppose technically I graduated to here in April, but looking at my record that's been a long time coming.

In 2016 I was laid off, spent the summer searching for work, moved half way across the world twice in the span of 2 months, and then got laid off again in April of 2017. This second time I decided to get a college degree as that seems to be what my line of work required. I started school at the end of June 2017 and survived off student loans, work study, and my sweetheart bouncing around minimum wage jobs, doing what she could to protect our nest egg while I studied hard. In June of 2020 I graduated with a Bachelor of Science in both Computer Science and Mathematics, and picked up a minor in Physics along the way. The pandemic made it hard to find work in the Summer of 2020, so I continued my schooling for a Masters degree but finally got a job offer starting at the end of March 2021. Now here we are, in June, picking up where we left off.

Thanks to mustachian principles we managed to make it through school, and the very scary crash of 2020, sadly missing out on the sale, to now be at the position we are today with a bright future ahead. These numbers are net worth, so they include the student loan debt I picked up along the way. It was thanks to these student loans that helped to protect our nest egg and the only sale of stocks we had to do were for tax purposes to move money between accounts and reduce our tax burden.

I plan to finish my masters slowly while working now and, as indicated above, graduate with a Master of Science in Computer Science and graduate the 250k-500k club.

If I look at cash and securities only (not counting rental equity or primary residence equity) I belong on this thread

1/2016  $137K
1/2017  $154K
9/2017  $244K  (cash out refinance of primary residence)
3/2018   $208K  includes 0% credit card debt.
6/2018  $213K    ditto but without 0% CC balance and including pension balance, $328K.
12/2018   $250K   ditto but without 0% CC balance and including pension balance, $353K
12/2019  $328K  but without 0% CC balance and including pension balance, $425K
6/2020  $343K, but without 0% CC balance and including pension balance. $448K

cash out refi for one of our rentals

12/2020  $428K but without 0% CC balance and including pension balance. $530K  yay!  even with 0% CC balance we're over $500K!

Projection to be fully over $500K in liquid investments in early 2022, perhaps sooner.

Well, sooner it is! Fully over $500K for the first time in Feb 2021!
All because of a single stock in my Roth IRA that's been going nuts. It's PACB Pacific Biosciences has given me over 10X return in the past year. I'm one of their happy customers.

2/10/21  $502K  including 0%CC balance, which should be paid off this year. After that and including pension balance, $606K

Tentatively graduating from this thread. Might be back, but wa-hoo!!

Back already,

2/28/21  $487K

should only be another month or two until over 500K sticks.

Indeed, went back above and again back below. But taking us back below, we paid for a new roof and a paint job for one of our rental properties.  Now the cash-out from the refi is spent.

5/28/21 $496K

I'm guessing about two more months here until we'll truly advance to the next level?
We have plans for a big paydown of the 0% CC debt in the fall, so we'll certainly have a good cushion to be over 500K liquid by then.

6/8/21 $504K

Back up over the line because of another biotech stock that jumped up 25% basically overnight. Good week for Biogen (BIIB)! They make the alzheimer drug that FDA approved, but might not work...

Hi all! Long time forum reader but I took a break for a while, going on a work sabbatical and traveling thanks to my savings, with subsequently the struggle to find and get into the right company to work at. I recently hit 250k net worth which brings me back to MMM forum.

I see a lot of huge jumps in NW on here and was wondering if this thread would be an ok place to ask, how much do you save each month, and how much of your gains are from stock value increasing?

I am able to put at least $1600 per month into 401k/IRA/HSA plus maxing ESPP. My wonderful spreadsheet says I will hit 500k in 6 years (typical disclaimer barring any major life changes or a market crash.) It took me 11 years out of college to hit 250k and I am happy to represent the slow/medium paced people on here.

Save around 12k/mo. including 401k/401k match/IRA/529/Taxable/Cash
in 2020 my NW ranged from 254k in January to 414k in December (+160k) ~40k of that was portfolio growth
So far in 2021 my NW is up (+106k) ~$50k of that was portfolio growth

hadn't really looked at that - looks like this year is off to a crazy start! wow. like having another full time job now. my total yearly spend is <$35k, if the market kept this up I would be FI :) Too bad about mean reversion and inflation and all that.

Good question.
For my post above, the crazy gains were two individual stocks.
I save about $3500 per month, put into my 403b and 457b and HSA, the rest is market gains.

And you're way ahead of me. I didn't start saving for retirement in earnest until 2016.
I graduated college close to 40 years ago.

That's always a relevant question! I've been saving around $2.5K/month from automatic payroll deductions, then I try to save another $1K-$1.5K from my take home pay on top of that.  This past year I moved in with some friends and have much lower fixed expenses, so I've been able to save almost $5K/month.  The rest of the numbers are all stock investment gains.  The stock market overall has been on a huge upswing recently above and beyond the historical norm for a year, so anyone with a significant amount already invested is seeing big jumps.

It took me 14 years out of college before I even hit $100k.  I didn't start maxing out the 401k until I 2016. If I'd only started 5 years sooner.
Five years later, we are soooooo close to $500k.

I guess I never really calculated our monthly savings, but it looks like around $4,250.
With my wife this includes two 401ks (plus match), two traditional IRAs, HSA, and two 529 plans.

I should mention that my mother has given me a $15k gift the last two years, which mostly goes toward the traditional IRAs, so I should probably cut that monthly savings down to $3,250 if I'm being honest. I put it in the monthly since I dollar cost average it throughout the year.

I average roughly $2500 per month in new contributions. At this point my market gains normally meet or far exceed my contributions.

we are saving ~$5k a month (right now) combined with matches across all the usual accounts. once both kids are in school and some debts are paid we may get closer to ~$9k a month

Hello!  I just graduated the 100K to 250K thread, now I'm here!

11/28/19 $252,000 (investments only, paid off house but not included in NW)

7/21/20 8 months later and we are at $323,000.  Hope to hit 500K in two years.

6/23/21  Currently at $455,000.  Unless the market tanks we should hit 500K in the next year, meeting the goal I set last summer.

Moving on up to this race from the race to 250k!

This isn't a true net worth as I don't include student loan debt as we will hopefully have most of it forgiven eventually. Also don't include mortgage debt or equity. All this is included are retirement accounts and cash between my wife and I.

Should have hit the goal already, but spent a crapload (>$15k) on patios and other improvements to the house the past two months. We are not used to spending this kind of money
All things considered, I am pleasantly surprised that the stash still had a slight increase.

If the market continues up, we should graduate next month.

JUNE UPDATE

08/01/20: $253,789
09/01/20: $257,810
10/01/20: $256,193
11/01/20: $255,810
12/01/20: $273,815
01/01/21: $276,958
02/01/21: $286,621

05/01/21: $320,779
06/01/21: $328,171
07/01/21: $352,430

Huge increase this month is attributed to a one time windfall. Refinanced mortgage this month to increase cash flow, so should have decent increases for the remainder of the year. My new target for year end is $385,000.

Jun 2021  € 381 498.25   (growth:  €22 620.31 deposits: €10 075.00)

Another good month! Already over 100K growth this year which is more than the whole of 2020.

You are killing it this year! Amazing savings, you will be out of this race in no time.

Net worth consists of equity portfolio, two rental properties, and cash (checking/savings). Liabilities are month-to-month credit card (PIF every month), two mortgages on rental properties, and what’s left of my wife’s student loans.

2019
January $87k
February $95k
March $95k
April $98
May $95
June $104
July $106
August $115
September $118
October $134
November $136
December $143

2020
January $153 (Got back on YNAB after a few years off - this, along with market tailwinds made 2020 an amazing year)
February $159
March $152 (Market crash and start of recovery)
April $172
May $187
June $187 (Bought a 2012 Toyota Sienna for $8,200)
July $202
August $206
September $207
October $215
November $233
December $234

2021
January $241
February $246
March $255
April $267
May $290
June $303

July $318k

Still trucking along. I think $350k is attainable by the end of the year without a ton of effort, unless the market takes a dump. $500k seems attainable within the next 24 months.

August   2020  $330,000
January  2021  $400,000
July        2021 $470,000

Posting during an upswing in the market, so don't expect it to remain.
However, if it does, I may hit $500,000 in 1/2022.
That would keep me ahead of my September 2023 timeline by about 1.75yrs.

Can't complain, since $500k was my CoastFIRE number.

6/30/21 - $517,109 (+$116,960).

Goodluck everyone! See you in the 500-1mm race!

I haven't regularly posted a running log like many here, but this is an exciting milestone to hit so I thought I'd share (brag) here, since I can't share it with most people in my life. I'm just too excited not to talk about it somewhere, even though it always feels a little unseemly to me. These are net worth numbers, index funds plus emergency cash. I don't have any home equity or debt.

01/01/15: $0
04/09/17: $100,000 (2y,  3mo)
02/04/19: $200,000 (1y, 10mo)
02/15/20: $300,000 (1y,  0mo)
12/03/20: $400,000     (10mo)
07/01/21: $500,000      (7mo)

I noted how long each hundred grand took to reach. The consistent acceleration of the pace is really unbelievable. It doesn't hurt that we've been living through this endless bull of asset inflation. It only took ten months to get from 300k to 400k, despite the pandemic panic hitting shortly after the 300k milestone. Surely there's no way this party will last forever. I expect I'll have to fall back below one or more of these milestones soon enough. If I had a high confidence of average real returns going forward, which is to say 6%+ ($30k+ in today's dollars), I'd quit my job today. As it stands, I'll keep working until either we get through a real recession period, or I reach truly wild levels of depression-proof wealth. In the meantime, I'm starting to feel secure enough that I might start behaving more like a confident "SWAMI" at work, instead of a fearful subservient wage slave suck-up.

Congrats to my fellow $500k graduates, Finwiz and joe189man.
