Well my bounce back put me up in the next race! Greetings...this is the highest my total has ever been. I'm almost afraid to crow about it too much...is that tempting fate? I feel safe among this tribe...

Portfolio totals:
1/28/20 $253,542.85
2/20/20 $264,385.15
2/28/20 $241,121.58
3/13/20 $209,201.71  Ouch!
4/3/20  $214,113.72
4/30/20 $241,361.42   Encouraging, regained 32,159.71 from the lowest point that I recorded.
5/27/20 $252,278.03 Still not back where we were in February, but it looks like it at least pushed us into the next race! Hope we stay there this time!
6/8/20 $265,620.41

Looks like we were/are in the same boat lol
We both better keep rowing!

Joining the thread late. I don't know why I hadn't noticed this until now! I think we'll crack $500k in December with an annual bonus, but depending on the craziness of the stock market, it could happen before then.

June 9, 2020: $474,321

I've been following MMM/ERE since 2012, but we've varied in our enthusiasm for savings over the years. Currently trying to save a decent amount while also pursuing all of our life goals. We want to get to FI and actually already be living how we want to live, work, lifestyle, giving back, etc.

Net Worth Dec 2019: $454,301, <-- Had a kid in October, Savings rate 52%
Net Worth Dec 2018: $280,087, <-- Savings rate 48%
Net Worth Dec 2017: $165,042 <-- Savings rate 40%
Net Worth Dec 2016: $87,878.65<-- Moved to NYC, Savings rate 27% excluding moving costs, 15% including moving costs
Net Worth Dec 2015: $54,568.08 <-- My husband graduated from his PhD and started earning great $$$, moved to Texas.
Net Worth Dec 2014: $29,446.16 <-- I quit my job to switch career fields, we took a month off to go backpacking in Europe, my husband is still a grad student.
Net Worth Dec 2012: $26,461.85

If I look at cash and securities only (not counting rental equity or primary residence equity) I belong on this thread

1/2016  $137K
1/2017  $154K
9/2017  $244K  (cash out refinance of primary residence)
3/2018   $208K  includes 0% credit card debt.
6/2018  $213K    ditto but without 0% CC balance and including pension balance, $328K.
12/2018   $250K   ditto but without 0% CC balance and including pension balance, $353K
12/2019  $328K  but without 0% CC balance and including pension balance, $425K

6/2020  $343K, but without 0% CC balance and including pension balance. $448K

conservative projections:
3/2021     $400K
6/2023??   $500K

6/30/20 $260,161.31 At least we're still in this race...hope to stay for a while! I should add that this is strictly portfolio...because I am retiring in 10 days! Does not include two saving accounts, checking account, house paid down to $18,000, and paid off house that one of our kids is buying from us. Mr. Z is long retired, and has his pension and social security. I think we'll get by...

I expect to invest more in July, so I should break out of this group by the end of the month when I turn 33.

Only tracking personal liquid stash and do not include my wife's savings or any Real Estate equity at this point

@Dogastrophe, you sure sound like a graduate to me! Congrats, and I hope to see you in the next thread sometime next year.

@dreadmoose, you are crushing it, especially for your age! Oh, to be 32/33 again! I'll give you an early congrats but I hope not to jinx you.

Invested: $270922 (+~7k)
Total net worth: $495000

Ended month on a down day but that's just a blip on the chart soon.

Pleased to have stayed in this thread with $260287 liquid. I had already decided to start maximizing my 401k early so that came in handy. excited to see what will happen when the market starts recovering.
Well, dropped below the lower end of this thread for now: $238521 liquid and about $450k total net worth following a drop in home value as well.

Just gotta keep plugging along.
Back up to about $275k liquid, so firmly back in the thread. Will update with more detail tomorrow.

More specifics: HSA $14912 + 401k/Roth/Taxable $259271 = $274183

Home equity dropped a bit, so would put total NW around $490k

We should know soon how much home equity we really have, our house is going on the market mid June.

This was a great month with some stock vesting and the final few dollars going into pre-tax 401k. Did splurge a bit on a gift for the wife but all in all a great month:

$295108.5 = HSA $16201 + 401k/Roth/Taxable $278907.5

Also sold one of our cars which should bring down expenses by about $500 per month. Fingers crossed for $300k by end of June
This past month we agreed to sell our house and got more for it than we expected. Not having used a realtor on the sell side definitely was a bit scary but turned out just fine.

Our investments ended at $310720.03 with expected home equity of $240k putting us nicely over the $500k all up. Once we get the cash from the sale I will report it here and we will hopefully move up although I do expect that new lockdowns may be needed and result in a stock market drop so might get thrown back into here.

Taxable Investments only.

After some work circumstances have become more clear, and conversation with Mrs. DBS about our goals, we are going to slow down our contributions in this space by half to fund some different goals, so I removed a graduation estimate.  We are going to build up some cash to deal with potential income disruption.  If it doesn't happen, we'll resume, but right now its looking like 50/50 chance it will happen.

I'm a half-millionaire!

$100k --> $250k took ~ 15 months
$250k --> $500k took ~ 18 months
$500k --> $1.0M ~ Estimated graduation November 2022, or 28 months from now.
$500k --> $1.5M (FI) ~ Estimated November 2024, or 52 months from now.

Off to the next thread to join my other half-millionaires where we will rejoice in eating fancy trader joes cheeses, Costco olives and sipping on those little premade margaritas found in the gas station cooler doors.

Joining - I reevaluated how/what I was tracking for purposes of these races and have decided to include equity in our investment properties.

(IRA/401K/taxable accounts/conservative equity in rental properties):

2/1/2020 $333,916.40
3/1/2020 $386,416.81 (put cash into new rental property)
4/1/2020 $386,032.10
5/1/2020 $404,443.66
6/1/2020 $450,581.83 ($30k of the bump is from an increase in rental property equity based on refinance appraisal)
7/1/2020 $455,164.98

Up $20,022.39 or 5.45% last month, with help from the market and from an annual elective employer profit-sharing contribution, to $387,575.39.
Can't wait to breach $400k and feel like I'm in the home stretch for this challenge :)

8/11 of our accounts are higher now than they were in January.

Honestly, I may start counting real estate and go over to the next thread next month. We are going to buy a second house shortly, at which point we will have two houses with two units each, throwing off $2800 revenue per month. Sure we will be living in the fourth and largest unit, but at this point I think real estate needs to be acknowledged as part of our net worth. There is a reason we are not selling the old one, and choosing the new one over a cheaper house or an apartment.

@oneday market whims...

But if my old house sale closes and the money shows up in early August.... the equity becoming liquid will push me well over the goalposts! (But I only post once per quarter, so September 2nd or so!)

Oooo, yes!  When is closing?  You indicated something about 2 weeks on your journal a bit ago, that would be 7/8.

It would be nice if people post their salaries too. Having a $500K salary and posting $200k savings in a year does not make sense.

Would knowing other people's salaries help you save more?

Where does it end though?
Should we ask people to specify if they live in low col or high col area? How about kids? Is the house paid off? Do you incorporate company match?

This isn't about comparing yourself to others that have different circumstances. It's about tracking your own progress and maybe compare to what you may have projected before.

its  tough to find a realistic comparison though. I have a lot of outgoings that relate to my divorce that will impact me for years - none of that helps someone unless they are in exactly the same scenario. optimize your expenses, save and invest - thats all there is to it. some times its great - other times its not. stick to the plan and you'll be good.

@oneday Yeah, with the equity added to our net worth we will surpass $500k between my wife and I.

still working on convincing her to invest all but like 20k in the market but having some qualms about putting it all in the market right now vs DCAing throughout the next year or 2.

@dreadmoose, you are crushing it, especially for your age! Oh, to be 32/33 again! I'll give you an early congrats but I hope not to jinx you.

Thanks Nick, I feel wholly too privileged being able to save like this (after this current contract I expect my salary to be cut in half).

I'll accept your congrats in the hope that other people don't get more screwed if they can't afford the market tanking. With this long of a retirement window, any amount of market loss barring a complete failure only helps my projections so I won't be personally offended if it backfires.

For those discouraged by other's gains, I feel for you. I believed there was no way I would be able to save this much ever, and have many strokes of luck and inherent privilege that got me here. Start with what you can and it'll snowball as you find other ways to save or provide value and demand proper compensation for it.

I'm also not sure it'll help anyone save more but I invest over 70% of what I make each year, which leaves my family with the median family income (after tax) for where we're located so we aren't struggling at all.

@UnleashHell @nick663 @neo von retorch @ingrownstudentloans @fuzzy math  you are close to graduation,do you have projected graduation dates?
Thanks!  Q3 might happen if the market continues upward like it has been but realistically we're probably looking at Q4.

Bit of a mid month update since we got the payout of our house sale.

Fidelity: $297731
HSA: $ 17519
Vanguard: $7221
Cash: $253697

All up: $576168

That should put me comfortably over the top of the range for this thread, excited to see what else we can accumulate in the next 2 or 3 months prior to our international move. Breaking $600k would be amazing and is certainly possible.
