Some people have crazy high incomes here.....actually most of the folks on the forum are self selected upper middle/upper class households with dual incomes.

Very true but how many people have gotten the confidence needed from forums such as this one only to make their income situation better either by asking for raises or making moves in the job market. by no means should this forum be considered a representation of the population, the crowd is heavily skewed towards the top x% financially savvy folks out there.

Too sad about the drops to report last month, but I did calculate last and this month
I am tracking investments rather than net worth
Column 1: investments (retirement + otherwise):
Column 2: total net worth (including investments, savings account and the paid off part of the house)
9/17/18     $261,012   $390,335
10/17/18   $258,694   $386,464
11/17/18   $257,033   $387,342

Late in September we were so close to having $500k in net worth. We were literally within $200 of reaching that goal. However, with the market losses over the past month we dipped over $40k. I just found out my student loans have been forgiven, which raises our net worth to $518k. Next stop 1 million!!!! WAHOOO!!!!

Congrats!  That's one way to make up for market loses lol.

I wouldn't mind a couple year decline at this point. We are probably 10 years out from comfortable FI so the cheaper we can purchase stocks now the better.  Although potentially going from 430k to 275k would really be a tough paper loss.

I actually feel the same way. I have been anticipating a bear market for a bit and wouldn't mind to see it come. A drop, however, in 100k or more, would be a bit hard to fit psychologically, but I also know that the first year after a bear market the average return is like 25-35%. That gives me some comfort. Good luck!!!

Seems like most people with the bulk of their NW in investments dropped all the way down to late July/early August numbers. Compared to those folks you are doing very well. Should be interesting indeed what November ends with and how December pans out.

Yeah, this is me. And that's despite 4 months of additional contributions.

UGH! Market correction has me wavering in my convictions and thinking I need to find the gauntlet and re-throw it down! DW and I have been contributing as per usual the past few months, but wow this market correction:

05/01/2017:  $198,456
05/15/2017:  $200,404
05/31/2017:  $207,044
06/15/2017:  $213,996
07/05/2017:  $219,933
07/17/2017:  $225,853
08/01/2017:  $228,504
08/24/2017:  $228,854
09/01/2017:  $237,500
09/19/2017:  $245,500
10/02/2017:  $251,933
11/07/2017:  $266,000
12/27/2017:  $280,000
01/12/2018:  $300,768
01/23/2018:  $305,566
11/27/2018:  $359,000

Definitely down about $20k from all time October high, plus all the bi-weekly contributions that just seem to disappear into thin air the next day.  Gotta remember that we are buying stocks cheaper, and remember its a ten year plan......!!!

Feb 1, 2016 - $90k
Apr 1, 2016 - $100k
Jan 1, 2017 - $177k
(Took 7 month sabbatical between Jan 1st and December 1st)
Dec 1, 2017 - $187k
Jan 1, 2018 - $196k
Feb 1, 2018 - $214,462
Mar 1, 2018 - $225,651
Apr 1, 2018 - $238,764
May 1, 2018 - $251,725
June 1, 2018 - $265,145
July 1, 2018 - $272,423
Aug 1, 2018 - $277,896
Sep 1, 2018 - $298,543
Oct 1, 2018 - $296,603
Nov 1, 2018 - $288,618
Dec 1, 2018 - $304,127

Not a bad jump this month. Stocks picking back up this week helped (including today). I put $6900 into HSA this month, so that was extra savings since I didn’t pay tax on it. Including that, total savings was about $11k for the month, then looks like about $5k market growth from 11/1/2018. My spending sucked, December won’t be much better (plus taking a week off, unpaid). Hope to turn over a new leaf 2019. If the stock market doesn’t move at all, and I minimize stupid 2019 spending, I can potentially hit 500k by the end of 2019.

Nov.  2018 $248,197.15
Dec  2018 $256,394.61

(I skipped Oct, as we went from middle-of-the month reporting in Sept to first-of-the-month accounting for Nov)

Okay, we popped back over $250K so I don't feel quite as illegitimate as I felt last month! I'm not a bastard. Whew

If I look at cash and securities only (not counting rental equity or primary residence equity) I belong on this thread

1/2016  $137K
1/2017  $154K
9/2017  $244K  (cash out refinance of primary residence in June)
3/2018   $208K  includes 0% credit card debt that will be paid off with HELOC when 0% rate expires in a few months.   Still expecting $300K by the end of 2018
6/2018  $213K    but without 0% CC balance and including pension balance, $328K.

conservative projections:
12/2018  $300K
12/2020  $400K
 6/2022   $500K

12/2018   $250K   but without 0% CC balance and including pension balance, $353K

we intend to pay off the credit card balance with HELOC and/or the sale of a rental in 2019.

Up $9,732.89 to $282,540.28. Nice third paycheck yesterday. December will be missing a few ingredients...higher expenses and I'm taking a few days off. My dad had a ministroke a couple of weeks ago, and that has reinforced my general plan to shift to PT in the next year and "coast" to FI thereafter. I could be in this thread a good long time. ;)

I could be in this thread a good long time. ;)

Those three paycheck months are amazing. My next one is in March.

What is your PT schedule looking like? I’m also looking like moving to PT well before FIRE. In my industry, it won’t be part time hours, but instead working a few months a year. I.e. working my ass off for 3 months, take 9 off, and break even for the year while the stache grows.

Haven't quite decided, but it will be nothing like yours :). I'm in a very stable, hospital-based clinical career. The limiting factor for me is that in order to be benefits eligible, I need to be scheduled for at least 32 hrs per 2 week pay period. No limits inside of that really. 24/7 coverage is needed, so I could do one 16 hr shift/wk, two 8 hr shifts/wk, 32 hrs one week with the next one off, etc. I'll earn 6 wks paid time off, and currently have 480 hrs in the bank to draw on. If I need to work more, I can take call, or hop on our scheduling app and see what open shifts are available. I'm hoping that all this flexibility will allow me to move my career from "job" to "hobby".

It's been a slow year due to moving, job changes, home purchase, and all the other expenses that go along with it.  Next year should settle down and be more stable. Shooting for a savings rate of around 40% next year or 50-60k in investments and savings.  If we can hit that we will be getting close to where we were before the move.  Would love to hit 500k by the end of 2019 but that will be pretty dependent on what the market does.

Scary about your dad! Hope he's doing better now.

I'm having a hard time fighting the urge to quit my cushy job and switch careers to do something (most likely lower paying) but more fulfilling, contribution to the planet-wise. I think I'll do that when I graduate from this thread :)

Last month was better, but still some headwinds from my heavy international allocation (served me well last year though!). Up $8,811.44 or 3.57% to $255,285.31.

why not try doing 250 to 500 in quicker time than you did 100 to 250?

Last post in 100-250k here: http://forum.mrmoneymustache.com/throw-down-the-gauntlet/race-from-100-to-250k/msg1440605/#msg1440605

Took me 26 months to go from 100-250, so that would require me to hit 500k on or before April 30th 2019.  Projection shows hitting it ~Jan 2021 at the current rate.  Slow and steady :)

So I've had some busy months and haven't been diligently tracking net worth, but had some time to figure it up this evening:
Feb-17   $251,409.30
Oct-17   $318,536.66

Rough projection for 500k is now Feb 2020! (assuming 7% market returns and the RE investments continue).  Given that the estimate moved up nearly year, I'd say that if things continue to go better than expected, then April 2019 is possible, but at the same time I don't want to be too optimistic...

Feb-17   $251,409.30
Oct-17   $318,536.66
Jan-18   $361,374.09
Mar-18  $369,142.20
Apr-18   $385,517.64
May-18  $392,342.38
Jun-18   $400,461.03

Updated my mortgage balance in Mint and just crossed over the $400k mark!  Optimistically looking towards April 2019 :)

Jul-18   $413,702.08
Aug-18  $425,816.43
Sep-18  $427,991.94
Oct-18  $416,693.85
Nov-18  $428,453.60

October saw the first dip in awhile, December doesn't look good either, haha

Yeah looking back at 2017 numbers it looks like my networth will end somewhere around the same. 0% change overall, and that means my investments overall were negative. So still floating right around $400k. Barring some big market downturn, I think it should still be possible to hit 500k by the end of next year. But I'm currently saving for a car early next year and house for year or 2 down the road. So we may not technically make.

My personal guess though is that we'll see a 20% rally next year which would solidly put us in 500k.

Thankfully, I don't plan on retiring in the next 5 years, so it's not a huge deal, but it is a bummer seeing our first year of no progress.

Hello everyone, I’m new to this thread, I graduated the race to 250k thread this month and shall be joining you all for 2019(and probably 2020)

I measure by pure net worth, so this isn’t totally liquid.  That said, I paid off the student loans this month so there isn’t much debt for me and Mrs Up.

1/16/18 - $83,567.53
2/1/18 - $94,138.48

The roller coaster ride continues.  Think October was bad for me? December was worse, lost 23K, crazy volatility with this nutjob president.  Let's keep buying stock, January and February will be slow for me in the investing deparment, time to pay some credit card for extra holiday expenses.

Happy new year to all of you who share this race with me and wishing your stache to grow immensely in 2019!

Cheers!

6/30/18:   $253,884
7/31/18:   $264,666
8/31/18:   $276,905
9/29/18:   $285,986
10/31/18: $267,359
11/30/18: $281,461
12/31/18: $261,809

At one point this month I was concerned I was going to fall out of this race! 2018 was certainly an up and down year, but long haul. Mr. Hudsoncat just got a raise that nicely covers the increased limits in the 401ks and IRAs for 2019. Here's to another year of maxing out!

Numbers for the month sure aren’t too appealing, but I can’t do too much about the stock market drops. I actually saved nearly $10,000 which is pretty good still and was only a couple hundred off from my budget goal.

Scary about your dad! Hope he's doing better now.

Thanks! He is, but it's a work in progress getting his blood pressure under control.

Down -$525.42 to $282,014.86. Spinnin' wheels. Could be worse. A Happy New Year to everyone!

It is interesting that the assets like primary home provide so much stability in rough times. If we have a paid off home or enough cash to pay it off safely invested it provides much safety in difficult times.
