Hello everyone, I am joining using my investments as a basis. We have another 200000 or so in house equity, but that is hard to judge exactly what we would get if we tried to sell. I know exactly how much is in my investment portfolio. Currently, this is mostly 401k, with some HSA, and college fund. One goal for this year is to start building up non-401k investments.

Jan 2017: $305,000

Hoping to be at $500,000 in 08/2018.

July 2016 - $257,306
August 2016 - $264,625
September 2016 - $270,695
October 2016 - $283528
November 2016 - $291396
December 2016 - $295603
January 2017 - $303,195

Hoping for $400,000 by December 2017. All going well the house will be paid 09/17 which will leave a few months for large investment deposits. I still cannot believe we jumped for a NW of $8,000 in 2013 to $303,195 in 2017. Imagine where we would be if we had started this sooner!

According to Mint I hit 250,055  today!!!

Granted this is due to market gains (my NW went up by close to 2x gross earnings this month). My goal is 300 by the end of the year if the stock market continues to increase, or 280 if it stays the same or goes down.

I am including home equity + retirement accounts, taxable accounts, and savings/checking that are in my name. I am not including my husband's 401k, bank account, or Robin Hood account (mainly because I don't have this information in Mint).

Welcome aboard! This is like the MMM middle class, we look down from our lofty peaks at sub-quarter-millionaires and gaze stary-eyed up at the clouds and wonder if someone is looking back at us from the "500->1m" thread.

+$35k this year! Aiming, for just under 100k in any given year of savings. Though, I am really only tracking worth gains, not savings directly. (So it includes gains/losses in the market) Given 10 month(s) left, and (67k) more to go, I should hit this goal!

401k MAXED (Mine only, Wife's is going per check all year)
IRA MAXED (Mine only, Wife's is getting maxed in 2 weeks)

Another month where we added $10k+ to the coffers. We've been up every month since last January, but I expect that trend will be hard to sustain as our holdings grow.

Seems pretty unlikely that we hit $400k next month. Especially since I'm hoping to get our interior painted (to the tune of $6k). Nevertheless, 400 grand is the next domino to fall.

Nov 15: $255k

8/1/16 - 375k
9/1/16 - 382k
10/1/16 - 391.5k
11/1/16 - 390.2k

1/1/17 - 450k / 600k NW
2/1/17 - 461k / 607k NW

hate how my company does stock.  NW is probably 8k higher right now but i wont know til april when the external company evaluates our company and gives us a share price.  This will likely lead to 1 extra year "worked"(i plan to take lots of unpaid time off my final year.

8-2016: $369,217
9-2016: $373,735
10-2016: $369,721
11-2016: $385,057
12-2016: $399,209
1-2017: $408,813

I suspect our invested asset gains will start to become more modest over the next several months as we've decided to change directions a bit and knock out the one thing that is really holding us back: the mortgage on the second home.  We owe $158k on our cabin and have decided to try and pay it off within 5 years. We're not making any changes to 403b/401k contributions so hopefully the invested assets will still continue to climb even it is a bit more slowly.

Evening Everyone!

Its a new month and a big update from me:

  • Jan 2017 - £346,854
  • Feb 2017 - £388,581

A jump of £41,730 after discovering an old pension that I had taken out in 1991 using the Pensions Tracing Service the UK Government set-up last year. To say I was surprised would be an understatement!

My updated forecast has us hitting £500k in March 2019.

I thought we were started with $230k, but Mint says we started this year with $180k in (non-real estate) investments. I must have been using some funky math. Regardless, I'll stick around in this forum and see if we can zoom ahead to $500k in non-real estate investments in the next year.

Jan 2016     $180,487.51
Feb 2016     $178,807.52
Mar 2016     $199,641.29
Apr 2016     $204,317.21
May 2016     $216,872.88
Jun 2016     $215,555.15
Jul 2016      $225,610.86
Aug 2016    $227,604.82
Sep 2016    $228,110.44
Oct 2016     $224,346.64
Nov 2016     $229,089.55
Dec 2016     $233,098.66

Figured out part the problem, in December, I wasn't counting a couple of smaller accounts that I forgot about/were not in Mint. Adding in these overlooked accounts brings us to:

Jan 2017    $295,303.00

Cash & invested / including home equity:
Nov 15: $165k / $236k
Dec 15: $162k / $257k
Jan 16: $152k / $259k
Feb 16: $166k / $275k
Mar 16: $185k / $295k
Apr 16: $192k / $305k
May 16: $201k/ $315k
Jun 16: $204k / $320k
Jul 16: $221k / $339k
Aug 16: $227k / $347k
Sep 16: $230k / $352k
Oct 16: $234k / $357k
Nov 16: $242k / $367k
Dec 16: $276k / $403k
Jan 16: $289k / $419k

I didn't count it, but a house just down the block just told for an amount that would value mine for about $60k more than I'm currently using if valued at the same $/sq ft (reasonable assumption given since both were updated at around the same time).

Update (as always, includes investments, cash on hand, and home equity):

Feb 2017 - $418k
Jan 2017 - $410k
Oct 2016 - $370k
Sep 2016 - $330k

I know the latest number is higher than expected due to an increase in my home value estimate between October and January, but I'm still pretty pumped about the upward trajectory of our number. I have a general stretch goal of getting to $500k by the end of 2018, but I'm now more sanguine about us getting there at least a few months earlier than that.

Wondering if people include 529 savings in their NW number. I don't, mostly because I don't think of it as my money anymore, but I was just curious.

Has been a long time since I checked in, during which time I used emergency fund to pay off mortgage $(~$30K) so I took a bit of a hit on liquid NW but new totals:

Invested (& Investable)
April 9, 2016:  $319,737
May 6, 2016: $325,093
June 8, 2016: $332,224
July 11, 2016:$337,287
August 8, 2016: $341,304
February 9, 2017: $361,822

Net Worth (Including Home Equity)
April 9, 2016:  $619,505
May 6, 2016: $629,924
June 8, 2016: $645,682
July 11, 2016: $687,219 (huge Zillow estimate increase ?)
August 8, 2016: $695,238 (Zillow decreased about $6K since last month)
February 9, 2017: $735,811 (Zillow down again--not taking any of the home equity too seriously)

Been a lurker for far too long, figured it's time to join the fray. Recently I've been quite lucky regarding market timing (I switched jobs and happened to rollover a 401k to an IRA at the right time) and the housing market. I'm not a market timer by any means, I just became one during the rollover from a job change.

01/26/16 - $236,000
03/02/16 - $251,000

it will likely be april or may when we hit it if the market continues and i get my Opening day ticket investment sold.  sitting around 485k invested. right now if you include the assumed ESOP contribution and share price increase i'm projecting. so 15k isnt far off.  5k per month going in plus gains plus extras from external hustles should push us up there about 2-3 months prior to expectations.

why not try doing 250 to 500 in quicker time than you did 100 to 250?

Last post in 100-250k here: http://forum.mrmoneymustache.com/throw-down-the-gauntlet/race-from-100-to-250k/msg1440605/#msg1440605

Took me 26 months to go from 100-250, so that would require me to hit 500k on or before April 30th 2019.  Projection shows hitting it ~Jan 2021 at the current rate.  Slow and steady :)

8/1/16 - 375k
9/1/16 - 382k
10/1/16 - 391.5k
11/1/16 - 390.2k
12/1/16 - 404k / 550k networth
1/1/17 - 450k / 600k NW
2/1/17 - 461k / 607k NW
3/1/17 - 479k / 628k NW

have 6500 invested in Opening day baseball tickets not included as well as a company share price increase that we will find out april 12th that was effective Jan 1.  based on conservative projection on those 2 we are probably sitting around 500k right now but i'll wait til the money hits the bank.

We have officially broken the 300k mark.  It's been a wild market ride the last couple months so who knows where we will be at the end of the year.  I'd love to surpass 300k invested with a total NW of 375k but that would definitely be a stretch goal.  Updated numbers below.

End Of
2014-Q1:                $55,471
2014-Q2:                $78,319
2014-Q3:                $84,251
2014-Q4:                $106,801

+$35k this year! Aiming, for just under 100k in any given year of savings. Though, I am really only tracking worth gains, not savings directly. (So it includes gains/losses in the market) Given 10 month(s) left, and (67k) more to go, I should hit this goal!

401k MAXED (Mine only, Wife's is going per check all year)
IRA MAXED (Mine only, Wife's is getting maxed in 2 weeks)

Hello everybody. Starting here after graduating from the $100k-$250k thread.

Jan 2017  $275k

Feb 2017  $287k

I guess this is where all the numbers start to go up faster? All NW is investment/cash.

Back for update. Been a good month with £10.5k increase in investments (including contributions). However some larger out of pocket expenses have lowered the overall increase to £8.5k.

  • Jan 2017 - £346,854
  • Feb 2017 - £388,581
  • Mar 2017 - £396,119

Nearly at £400k which is great. Target for £500k is now Feb 2019.

Good luck everyone!

Last couple months have seen great gains. I think about 5k of this is increase in my home value estimate. I include home equity because I still have a large mortgage (more than the value of cash + investments). Also market gains and increased savings rate. Starting to hold more cash now for upcoming expenses so next month might not be as big.

1/1/16 = £288,240
1/1/17 = £374,668
1/2/17 = £388,289
1/3/17 = £386,895

Paid off the last debts (excl mortgage) from house move 12 months ago.  Considering this was £11k ish I have done well to limit the loss to a couple of k off the NW.
Target now is to reach and pass £400k by the end of the year.

Excited to finally join this thread! I just closed on my first (non-rental property) house today, so am expecting relatively slow progress next month as I furnish and fix it up, but am pretty pumped nonetheless.

10/1/16: $220,000
11/1/16: $232,000

First post in this thread!
March 1st: $271,698.51

Have had a great savings rate for the last year. At the beginning of 2016 we were aiming for 50K in savings for the year, thought an extreme goal was 100K and exceeded that target. Do not think we will be able to repeat this ; lots of work hours last year and family and I need a break. Planning for over $300K net worth by the end of the year (again, what we thought was a stretch target last year).

Happy to be here, and wondering (hoping?) if this is the last thread we are in prior to FIRE.

Wow! Great job!

Are you planning on FIRE with less than 500k?
