Jan. 1, 2016 = 374
Feb. 1, 2016 = 373
Mar. 1, 2016 = 379
Apr. 1, 2016 = 391
May 1, 2016 = 398
June 1, 2016 = 406
July 1, 2016 = 415
Aug. 1, 2016 = 426
Sept. 1, 2016 = 424
Oct. 1, 2016 = 427
Nov. 1, 2016 = 428
Dec. 1, 2016 = 438

Jan. 1, 2017 = 468

That's an increase of 94K for the year . . . I'll take it.

So just out of curiosity I went back to my historical spreadsheets just to get a sampling of our progress.  Some of my record keeping was, uh, irregular so I don't have January to January comparisons, but whatever.

March 2011 = 81
June 2012 = 143
Aug. 2013 = 168
Jan. 2014 = 202
Jan. 2015 = 266
Jan. 2016 = 374
Jan. 2017 = 468

I'm going to start tracking cash + invested since I'm now at $250k for that number, second number includes home equity (which I have been tracking all along).

Nov 15: $165k / $236k
Dec 15: $162k / $257k
Jan 16: $152k / $259k
Feb 16: $166k / $275k
Mar 16: $185k / $295k
Apr 16: $192k / $305k
May 16: $201k/ $315k
Jun 16: $204k / $320k
Jul 16: $221k / $339k
Aug 16: $227k / $347k
Sep 16: $230k / $352k
Oct 16: $234k / $357k
Nov 16: $242k / $367k
Dec 16: $276k / $403k

The drop in the first number at the beginning of 2016 was me using some cash to pay off our piggyback HELOC from a year-end bonus and realizing we didn't need such a large emergency fund. Home value is calculated just using inflation. Based on a recent sale a couple houses down I could use a number about $100k higher but I'm hesitant to add that much 18 months after we bought the place. I like this way better for consistency.

It was a good year. Almost $150k in growth. The big bump in December was due to year-end bonus.

I thought we were started with $230k, but Mint says we started this year with $180k in (non-real estate) investments. I must have been using some funky math. Regardless, I'll stick around in this forum and see if we can zoom ahead to $500k in non-real estate investments in the next year.

January 2016     $180,487.51
February 2016     $178,807.52
March 2016     $199,641.29
April 2016             $204,317.21
May 2016             $216,872.88
June 2016             $215,555.15
July 2016             $225,610.86
August 2016     $227,604.82
September 2016  $228,110.44
October 2016     $224,346.64
November 2016     $229,089.55
December 2016     $233,098.66

March 2014: 178K
June 2014: 191K
September 2014: 205K
December 2014: 231K
March 2015: 232K (I self financed half a wedding this quarter, and began subsidizing now husband)
June 2015: 249K
September 2015: 272K (a new~30K in debt showed in this quarter from the first half of a 60K roof assessment I didn't have cash on hand for)
December 2015: 326K
March 2016: 342K
June 2016: 389K
September 2016: 457K (began booking a 4540K "liability" that I would incur if I wanted to liquidate my condo, which I include in this NW total)

Mostly as a reminder to self, I've been using my personal capital net worth total here, minus my shared accounts with my husband.

I guess I've graduated out of this thread at this point.  We'll see where I am at month's end.

Coming back to update... for end of DEC

2015 DEC:252k

2016 JAN:260k(+8k)
2016 FEB:281k(+21k)
2016 MAR:285k(+4k)

2016 OCT:337k(+1k)
2016 NOV:361k(+24k)
2016 DEC:368k(+7k)

+$116,000 this year! Aiming, for just under 100k in any given year of savings. Though, I am really only tracking worth gains, not savings directly. (So it includes gains/losses in the market) Given 0 month(s) left, and (-16k) more to go, I hit this goal!

Starting 10/2016 - $310,000 (rough estimate since we still have a few accounts left to be merged)
11/2016 - $328k
12/2016- $347k

1/2017 $358.7k

We made a large effort to cut Christmas spending this year. Other than that nothing crazy, still in the process selling our old house so I'm happy with that increase.

Mission accomplished, took 13-14 months. Managed a ~70% savings rate, and increased net worth significantly more than our after-tax income.

I am new around these parts but been reading here for a good year or so.
This year my resolution is to try and make that big push towards £500k for 2020. (I am in GBP).  Goal for 2025 is £0.75M and £1M by 2030.
If I can make a dent this year and click over 400k I will be happy!  NB my NW includes all my assets after any finance.  Includes savings, investment property, classic car and pension.

1/1/16 = £288,240
1/1/17 = £374,668

Hello! Just graduated from the 250k one at the beginning of the year, how perfect!
Should be a good year, condo is paid off, no debts, upping my contributions in 403b to the max.. then trying to figure out where to stick the rest. Need to read a little more as still confused about that.

I'm loading up as fast as I can right now, but may shift to walk mode before $500K. My trigger event for semi-FIRE is not a Stash number, so it's impossible to tell right now. As soon as PT work + rent = expenses, I'll quit FT and let the Stash compound for a few years. I have some outsized single-stock holdings that could go up or down in the near future, making the NW @ time of transition rather difficult to predict... and after that, the snowball will mostly roll on its own, instead of my piling the bulk of my earnings on it as it goes.

I want in please.  We are currently at $352,398.01 (or were at the end of December).  My actual goal is to get to $600,000 in 5.5 years (which is when we are pulling the retirement trigger).  I'm hoping we can get there!!

Love seeing everyone's progress!

Cheers to a successful 2017 to all!  JGS

Happy New Year to everyone!

Net worth estimate up to $410k, another larger than anticipated increase, mostly due to increasing my home value estimate another $20k and including $10k of liquid savings that I had not previously figured into my number. I know that using the Zestimate is not super accurate, but I am still about $60k below that number. Otherwise I did increase my 401k contribution up to 21% (from 18%, I think) and we had some modest growth of our investments.

Net worth estimate is $370k this month, up a good chunk from the last time I posted (which I think was early September). Most of the jump accounts for increasing my estimate of our house worth about $15k, after having a. looked at the Zillow estimate (which is way, way higher than my own estimate) for the first time in almost a year, and b. heard about the sale prices of comparable houses in our neighborhood. Also had a jump of over $5k due to getting a quarterly statement from one of my husband's old 401ks. Plus the usual contributions to our current 401ks and some modest growth. Still pessimistic about getting to $500k before 2019 due to upcoming mat leave/child care spending increases but I guess it could happen.

Did not know these existed.  I'll join in, but we just rejiggered our free cash flow to go from investing to saving for kids college for the next 10 years so thinking we are going to hit a wall, but will be fun to see.  I will just post quarterly numbers for progression.  We also had an unusual situation for thee months in 2016 where I switched jobs and had severance coming in while working new job (good problem to have for investing).

1/1/2015 - $319,018
3/31/2015 - $358,647
6/30/2015 - $350,887

Dec 16: 492k. So close!

We have definitely reached a tipping point where market gains are a larger contributor than our actual savings some months. Obviously that might change if the market corrects.

We'll probably hit it at the end of Jan. Then it's off to 1 million.

Morning everyone!

Joining this race from the depths of frosty Surrey, UK.

Current FI Fund at January 2017 is £346k

Plan is to hopefully get to £500k by December 2018.

I currently track FI Fund and Networth in a Google spreadsheet and update monthly so I'll pop back on 1st Feb to see how things have gone.

Good luck everyone!

Moving into this thread after spending a bit of time in the 100k to 250k thread.  Feels good to be a quarter-millionaire!  Haha.  We're at $282k right now, woot!

Good luck, we are also UK based.  We technically need a GBP thread :D

We are at a similar point now, you will be well ahead of me if you reach your 500k by end of 18 though.

Out of interest what is your strat?  I am going with property (rental - owned not BTL) plus cash savings, PBs (security only!), 123 and pension.
Not touching Woodford etc yet too toppy for me.

You could always stay in this thread and just race from £200k to £400k (based on current exchange rate).

Meh, it's really more about achieving the goal than the amount of the goal achieved.  USD, Canadian, Australian dollars, Euros, GBP, are all relatively in the same ballpark, imo.  Now if you are talking some undervalued third-world currency, then you should probably do a conversion.

Ha.  Ok, sounds good to me.  That will be quite the challenge.

16 months is my goal then.  $500k by Feb 2017.  That's $15,625/mo. I don't see how this will happen, but here goes!

Ok, looking back my original stretch goal was Feb 2017... That almost certainly won't happen, but it's still nice to know we're tracking pretty closely.

Same here. We were at ~$250k in December 2015 and ~$385k now. If the market does well we'll probably hit $500k by the end of the year but otherwise I'm expecting early 2018.

Not touching Woodford etc yet too toppy for me.

Thanks. We have a combination of Stocks & Shares ISA's, Personal Pensions with some cash in Santander 123.

Currently I'm throwing as much as I can into my pension to get the 40% tax relief (who knows how much long this will last?).

We hope by 2020 we will have £600k allowing us 4% withdrawal of £24k per year, which is in line with our spending.

I don't think we will stop work completely, more like we will do some consultancy here and there (we working in IT and Marketing).

But anything can happen between now and then, so here's to the fun journey!

Sounds similar to us, we also have no kids.  The plan is to sell the houses and travel for a while.  Been crunching the numbers more and more recently and I hope to hit our target a bit sooner than 2030 where it was planned and perhaps as soon as 2025 if the markets play ball and we do ok with our business.  The one thing I don't take into consideration is the value of our business - but if we could sell it I suspect 2025 is very possible.

March Update: I'm adding 2015 quarterly (for comparison) and switching over to a monthly update format for 2016...I think this will make it easier for me to track incremental progress. Year-over-year increase from March 2015 to March 2016 is $102,086 (!)

Dec 2014: $190,811
Mar 2015: $238,653 (+$47,842)
Jun 2015: $262,010 (+$23,357)
Sep 2015: $276,420 (+$14,410)
Dec 2015: $310,350 (+$33,930)
Jan 2016: $307,436 (-$2,914)
Feb 2016: $315,430 (+$7,994)
Mar 2016: $340,739 (+$25,309)

My husband inadvertently just set our $500k NW goal by declaring that he wants to be a "half-millionaire" by his 30th birthday. So, we have until August 2017 to hit $500k in investible NW. Given our current trajectory, I think this is very likely! I'm personally aiming to hit $500k in March of 2017...no math here, just sending good vibes out into the universe.

And a quick NW update, still going strong! Some of the significant increases are due to bonuses - Brown Bear's 6% bonus in April, and then my $5k signing bonus in May.

Apr 2016: $356,946 (+$16,207)
May 2016: $370,408 (+$13,462)

I think we're on track to hit $400k by Brown Bear's 29th birthday in August! Have to wait and see how things go...

Movin' on up...
June 2016: $377,258 (+$6,850)

I should probably mention that we've been diverting all of our extra cash into our house downpayment fund (besides 401(k) contributions, set to max for both). Sadly this means our monthly gains aren't so high right now since the house money is in a checking account yielding 0.75% per year. Still, this tactic means we're dropping $4,380/month into 401(k)s (including matching) and $3k per month into the house fund. Not too shabby. We probably won't hit $400k by the end of August, though, without some magic happening.

On to July!
July 2016: $397,978 (+$20,720)

Looks like magic is actually happening - $400k here we come (so close!) Did I mention that we did put an offer in on a house, and it was accepted? Our home inspection is scheduled for Wednesday and barring catastrophe we should be good to go!! I'm super excited :) We're doing some funny shuffling of funds right now but since we haven't actually paid anything for the house yet - we've just been moving money around - it's all still there. It's just that $85k of our total money pile is in cash....About $50k set aside for house/closing costs and the remainder for home improvement, which we're hoping will only cost ~$20k.

August Update: $403,403 (+$5,425) We've just cleared $400k!!!

Despite clearing $400k (which = awesome!!), this month's gain is only a tiny increase over July because we spent vast amounts of money last month. We bought our plane tickets to visit Brown Bear's family at Christmas ($3,328) and also bought some furnishings for our new house plus paid for the home inspection, appraisal, and sewer clean out ($2,770 total). That means our normal spending was ~$3,500, which is great, but add all that other shit in and you get to $9,500 in spending for August and it's just staggering. I hope to keep the general Sept spending lower despite our plans to close on the house this month. That said, we did take advantage of some good labor day sales for more home furnishings and hardware store necessities - $1231 so far and counting...Pretty soon here we will have to start re-calculating NW including home equity!

Looks like I've been neglecting this thread :/ we did just (finally!) get home internet service a few weeks ago but I'm still firmly in the habit of staying off the computer when I'm at home, so haven't been posting all that much. Wanted to give a bit of a NW update for January, though. Including home equity, which currently stands right around $47,433 if you don't include our home improvements in our home value, our NW as of today is $444,411. That's pretty good considering we put just shy of $45k cash into home improvements & closing costs last year! We're all set up to save save save this year, though, since the big house stuff is all wrapped up. Plus our annual household income has increased from $170,600 in Jan 2016 to $183,570 in 2017 (+$12,970) due to my husband's mid-2016 promotion plus year-end increases for both of us. This doesn't include any bonus income we may see this year. Woo hoo! Based on my preliminary calculations we are on track to save ~$102k this year in 401(k)s + matching, 2x Roth IRAs (already max-ed out), and taxable investments, not including any bonus income. So we sure as hell better hit $500k by August 2017! Let the compounding begin!
