Not a great time to be starting this race because I'm about to be laid off from my well paying but soul-sucking job at the end of this month (I was finally able to max out my 401k super comfortably, that's the part I'll miss). Thank you to COVID19 for giving me my second layoff in 12 months...but I'm still pretty amped to have graduated from the 100k challenge

01-2020   $82,260.85
02-2020   $83,005.15
03-2020   $83,326.38
04-2020   $95,827.22
05-2020   $104,082.90

Hell yeah. Now to see how much I can save while being on unemployment until I can find my next gig :)

It really sucks that you're going through a layoff. Hopefully you can get a nice severance + unemployment + CARS Act unemployment and then quickly find a solid job with fantastic benefits that's much better than the soul sucking one!

Hi!
I am so happy to join this group!
It's been a goal for years, even though I haven't been too great about posting the last couple of years.
I started tracking alone, but since I have no intention of retiring alone, I thought I should add my spouses assets too. So that bump from May 2018 to present is slightly inflated.

November 17- 41195
December 17- 42526
January 18- 47966
February 18-47104

welcome, sports thrice!

Thank you @grantmeaname! I appreciate the warm welcome!

It really sucks that you're going through a layoff. Hopefully you can get a nice severance + unemployment + CARS Act unemployment and then quickly find a solid job with fantastic benefits that's much better than the soul sucking one!

Thanks for the positive words, @alcon835! Unfortunately I believe the CARS Act unemployment might be ending before my last day, which is the end of this month. I received 60 days notice in lieu of a severance (essentially I think they received a PPP loan so that they were able to pay us for 8 more weeks instead of laying us off at the end of April)...my direct boss was very nice and essentially cut my workload to 25% so that I could start job searching. I'm already exhausted with it though, since I just went through a layoff and job search last summer. And then in addition, the burn out from the soul suck is still real, there are less jobs on the market (though that's starting to go back up now), etc, so I'm thinking about road tripping to some national/state parks with my mum in July to give myself a mental break, then kick it back into gear. Having a bit of a third-of-life crisis, if you can't tell!! But I'm confident I'll find something much better for me in the long run!

While I've been in this race since August (due in part to pensions, home equity, & cash), my investment balance surpassed $100k this week.

Can you tell from the picture below when I discovered MMM & FIRE?

Charts like this make me smile. Good job, Dad!

I stepped down from a higher paying position this year due to stress. I would be pleasantly surprised if I did break $250,000 by the end of the year, but I am thinking maybe $225K is more realistic. I don`t want to get my hopes up too much.

Note: all numbers are from the 1st of the month. Only tracking investments, no savings, assets, etc.

Jan 2020: $100,566
Feb 2020: $107,987 (+7,421) [+7.38%]
Mar 2020: $96,513 (-11,474) [-10.62%]
Apr 2020: $90,626 (-5,887) [-6.09%]
May 2020: $104,595 (+13,969) [+15.41%]
Jun 2020: $129,092 (+24,297) [+23.42% ]
Jul 2020: $136,291 (+7,199) [+5.57% ]

Year-to-date change: +$35,725 [+35.52%]

June definitely stuttered. Most of my gains were from option vesting and my own investments, though there was some small growth as well. I was pretty bullish at the beginning of June, but now I'm less so. Still, things aren't as terrible at this point and most of the organization I'm invested in are weathering it fairly well.

My job is steady as a rock, earning significant revenues in Q2, which is a huge blessing. Depending on how the numbers shake out in July, this could turn into one of our best quarters ever.

Here's hoping for good news in July!

Another good month! Halfway there! As the school year is over, my next paycheque won't be until the end of September. Haven't signed a contract for the new year, but things are looking good...

Might make a few dollars here and there over the summer. Hopefully I'll be able to minimize shrinkage of my savings as much as possible but it may be inevitable unless my investments do well or I find a good source of income.

If I'm employed throughout the entire time, I expect to reach $250,000 by July 2022 but I could see myself reaching it mid-late 2021 if my investments do well 🤞

January 2018: $18,944.35

Hi all! Finally joining this thread after spending a few years in the 10K to 100K thread. Here's my history from that thread:

9/29/17 - $11,511
6/30/18 - $36,000
1/31/19 - $53,028
6/30/2019 - $75,757
12/31/2019 - $96,225
1/31/2020 - $96,048
2/29/2020 - $94,556
3/31/2020 - $92,438
4/30/2020 - $101,897

This was previously just my personal net worth, however with the graduation I've decided to move to household net worth, so Mrs. Fiction gets to join the fun too. It makes too much sense at this point, given how intertwined our finances have become.

Background - I'm 35 and my wife is 31. DD is two and we have another on the way this summer. Looking to buy a house around this time next year.

Total joint net worth as of 4/30/2020 is $203,198. We are debt-free outside of whatever is on our credit cards, which always get paid each month.

With some market cooperation, some inspiration and some hard work (and some luck!) We just might be able to graduate this thread by the end of the year.

Looking forward to following along with everyone's progress!

New Joint Tracker

4/30/2020 - 101,897        203,198

6/30/2020 - 114,288        227,585

Better month than last from an expense standpoint. Still plenty of room for improvement, though. This month I am really going to try and curb expenses. I picked off one low-hanging fruit already - cancelling a $6 streaming service so that's a start!

Extra expenses kept the increase to invested funds basically flat last month - Laser Tattoo Removal (~2.5K), Roof Repair Service Call ($850), Shed Building Materials ($800).  Larger Net Worth increase driven by increase in Zillow estimate on home.  I expect that medical expenses and further shed construction material will keep savings largely flat this month too.

06/01/20: $241,176 ($4,352 gain)
07/01/20: $243,683 ($2,507 gain)

At one point in June I was briefly above the 250k mark. By the end of the month the only thing that gave me a modest gain was dividends paying out. While I am disappointed to not be moving to the next race, I am pleased that my dividends were reinvested at a lower price.
My quarterly EESP purchase hits in July, so expect a possibility of graduation this month, barring whatever the markets decide to do.

Not too shabby of an increase this month. Luckily, my last paycheck and PTO payout are being counted in my July month, so hopefully I'll still have an increase in my first month of funemployment!

Some nice increase this most recent month!

Thanks, I had a few bank bonuses come in, and I strangely got a $1,500 bonus at work in lieu of a raise.

Reminded me of this

As of today we’ve crossed the $250k line in net worth. This makes me so happy. From $28k in 2016 to $250k in 2020. Doesn’t seem possible. And yet we should be so much further along. Just bad decisions before we started working towards FI. But we are trying to make up for lost time now.

I’m going to stick around here until investments cross the line as well.

8/31/19: $116,527
9/30/19: $124,973

2/28/20: $156,457
3/31/20: $145,287
4/30/20: $163,919
5/31/20: $178,765

Must. Stop. Spending. Money. Still investing maxes in 401(k) & HSA but other than that, extra cash is going to quarantine spendy-ness.
