Nov 20, 2019 -- $113,800
January 15, 2020 -- $120,900
February 15, 2020 -- $136,916
March 17, 2020 -- $65,556
April 15, 2020 -- $97,329
May 15, 2020 -- $106,496.59

And we're back! Leveraging hit me hard on the down side, but I had some extra breathing room and the interest rate fell off a cliff, so I leveraged a bit more. Here's to the upswing being even more magnified!

It would be nice, but I think a lot of the gain has been because we put a lot into VTSAX late March. I wouldn't be upset if it kept happening though :)

1/12/18   $ 50k
7/13/18   $ 63k
10/19/18  $ 75k
1/31/19   $ 80k
2/28/19   $100k
5/31/19   $119k
8/30/19   $130k
12/31/19  $163k
3/31/20   $156k
4/30/20   $187k
  5/31/20   $196k

Two days ago my 401k hit $100k for the first time which was exciting. It consisted of $100.7k of contributions and -$700 of market returns - thanks for everything, market!

Just need 2% or one month of savings in a sideways market to roll over the odometer! And $250k at year end should be very doable - just need the market to drop no more than 5-10% between now and the end of the year.

Up almost 29k in the last two months is wild, and makes me feel extra fortunate that I'm (1) in my accumulation phase and not recently retired, and (2) still able to work and put away money at this time. Very very fortunate!

Hi all! Finally joining this thread after spending a few years in the 10K to 100K thread. Here's my history from that thread:

9/29/17 - $11,511
6/30/18 - $36,000
1/31/19 - $53,028
6/30/2019 - $75,757
12/31/2019 - $96,225
1/31/2020 - $96,048
2/29/2020 - $94,556
3/31/2020 - $92,438
4/30/2020 - $101,897

This was previously just my personal net worth, however with the graduation I've decided to move to household net worth, so Mrs. Fiction gets to join the fun too. It makes too much sense at this point, given how intertwined our finances have become.

Background - I'm 35 and my wife is 31. DD is two and we have another on the way this summer. Looking to buy a house around this time next year.

Total joint net worth as of 4/30/2020 is $203,198. We are debt-free outside of whatever is on our credit cards, which always get paid each month.

With some market cooperation, some inspiration and some hard work (and some luck!) We just might be able to graduate this thread by the end of the year.

Looking forward to following along with everyone's progress!

New Joint Tracker

                  Solo NW      Joint NW
4/30/2020 - 101,897        203,198
5/31/2020 - 109,544        218,023

Overall a good month, though there is plenty of fat to be cut. Too much on money spent on things going into my gullet: groceries, beer and restaurants.

I’m jumping in this thread with a few ideas and thoughts in mind. I don’t plan to add house equity or extras like that. I’m not even going to add the spouse’s 401k. I’ll be solely tracking
My 401k and my Roth IRA Numbers to go toward the goal of $250k. I may add the savings account numbers later, but most of that pays toward the last of my mortgage and a basement remodel right now.

My stats:

Jul2019 — $101953
Aug2019 — $106277
Sep2019 — $111050
Oct2019 — $114791
Nov2019 — $120215
Dec2019 — $122692
Jan2020 — $120521
Feb2020 — $123625
Mar2020 — $124248
Apr2020 — $133240
May2020 — $145475

Numbers updated thru the last day of the month

I hope others were able to make adjustments and protect their investments. Times are a bit strange right now; however, I anticipate we will recover once this virus moves on.
Keep safe everyone!

Note: all numbers are from the 1st of the month. Only tracking investments, no savings, assets, etc.

Jan 2020: $100,566
Feb 2020: $107,987 (+7,421) [+7.38%]
Mar 2020: $96,513 (-11,474) [-10.62%]
Apr 2020: $90,626 (-5,887) [-6.09%]
May 2020: $104,595 (+13,969) [+15.41%]
Jun 2020: $129,092 (+24,297) [+23.42% ]

Year-to-date change: +$28,526 [+28.36%]

A big bump for me this month, for a couple reasons:
  • I hit my option vesting cliff. This was the biggest gainer for me. I am pretty conservative with how i'm pricing these (probably worth at least double what I have them at) since this is only paper money until we actually sell or go public. Still, this is a major part of my FIRE plan so I am adding the current value of my vested options as part of the race going forward.
  • Three Paycheck Month. This wasn't as big of a deal for me as it was for others, but the third paycheck added a nice boost to my 401K.
  • Company Match Started. In May, my company starting a 2.5% 401K match. That's a nice bump that is going to continue indefinitely.
  • Market Recovery. The market recovered even more in May. My original investments haven't come back to February levels yet, but it's close! Plus the gains I've made from continued investing through the downturn have made up significantly for the loss.

Overall, I think I made the right choice to continue investing aggressively through the quarantine. I'm early enough in my journey that drops in the marketing don't impact my day-to-day life at all - except to add some anxiety! As things are going right now, I expect my investments to be above February levels by the end of June.

I have a bunch of quarantine cash I'm sitting on that I planned to start spending and investing in June, but the riots have me nervous. I may need that money for something more important than a few stocks and who knows how they'll effect the market (assuming they have any impact). Historically, protests/riots end on Monday when folks go back to work, so we'll see if unemployment frees people up to keep protesting/rioting. I'll re-evaluate the risk each week and start spending that cash once things are stable. DW and I are both itching to start working on our goals again.

Other than that, my big goal of getting to $250K by June of 2021 looks reasonable. I have valuable stock options steadily vesting over the next 12 months, a new employer match giving me a nice boost, and I'm in a good place financially to keep investing beyond the 401K/Roth IRA max. Plus, I expect my current investments to grow significantly over the next 12 months as certain market segments (travel, hospitality, and oil) recover.

Here's hoping July comes with more financial good news!

Jan 2014:  $97k
Jan 2015:  $100k
Jan 2016:  $103k
Jan 2017:  $108k
Jan 2018:  $127k
Jan 2019:  $133k

I'm seeing a lot of record highs here. Many folks in the higher threads haven't recovered to all time highs yet. Although I think I'd still switch positions with them if offered the chance ;-)

@jiimmy so much of my number isn’t in the market, is what I think helps me. If we don’t count the house value, then I think my number would only be around 40-50k

@jimmy I think the biggest reason is, when we contribute it makes a larger impact than those in the higher threads. From what I've heard, once you get above $250K, it still matters that you put money in, but your investments start to grow faster than what you put in.

For us, we're still low enough that our investments + partial market recovery = enough to get us past our losses.

May savings were slowed by my ignition controller going on out on the boiler and my fridge compressor biting the dust.  The fridge forced a new fridge purchase and more expensive eating habits for 10 days while waiting for it to be delivered.

Managed to stop the bleeding by not paying !!$550!! dollars to have the HVAC company order and install a new ignition controller once they diagnosed the issue.  I ordered the same part on amazon for $100 and installed myself.

Not a great time to be starting this race because I'm about to be laid off from my well paying but soul-sucking job at the end of this month (I was finally able to max out my 401k super comfortably, that's the part I'll miss). Thank you to COVID19 for giving me my second layoff in 12 months...but I'm still pretty amped to have graduated from the 100k challenge

01-2020   $82,260.85
02-2020   $83,005.15
03-2020   $83,326.38
04-2020   $95,827.22
05-2020   $104,082.90

Hell yeah. Now to see how much I can save while being on unemployment until I can find my next gig :)
