@tarheeldan Congrats on moving on up.  I fee like the Hendersons telling Harry we don't ever want to see you again because we know it is best for you.

Before you go, is there any way to make a couple changes to the Big Board on the Google Doc?  Maybe not, but I would love to see a Year to Date $ and/or % change on the Big Board, and I would also love to see a months to victory column added to the Graduate Tab.  I figure the Net Worth column should always be near $250K,  but how long it takes to get there is the fun part.

If it is tons of work no big deal.  If it is something anyone can do, even better, but I am not proficient in google docs or excel.

What is your best guess timetable to 500K?

Thank you!

Done - we now have YTD $ and YTD %, and there's also a "months in race" column on the Graduates tab - all of these are automatically calculated :)

Hoping for March 2021 to graduate from the next thread - we'll see! Hope to see you there soon!

So cool! Those YTD metrics are really nice.

Sold rental house over asking price and we are officially debt free!!!! (other than revolving CC debt). Have about 95k sitting in a high yield savings account while we try to decide whether we will purchase another house (primary) or not.

I like this thread.  I'm super impressed with all the remarkable gains y'all are making!  I feel lucky to get a couple hundred in NW increase each month!

06/2018 - $127,908
07/2018 - $128,267
08/2018 - $130,454

Net Worth from Personal Capital.  I recently had my house appraised, so I've manually set it's value to $205,000.

I'm still getting to Mustachian on spending...
Most of my gains are market right now, as I'm working down some CC debt (happily no interest! yet...)

When you're in the end-game, and at high savings rate, it'll go up in ridiculous bounds.

Investment gains are also quite fun. (2% gain for a 200k portfolio is 4k!)

1/16/18 - $83,567.53
2/1/18 - $94,138.48
2/15/18 - $91,543.60
3/4/18 - $106,647.81
3/15/18-$113,810.14
4/1/18-$118,457.70
4/13/18-$122,591.10
5/1/18 - $124,603.56
5/15/18 - $129,202.24
5/31/18 - $150,940.36
6/16/18 - $154,273.90
6/30/18- $155,247,41
7/16/18 - $182,310.10
8/1/18 - $186,730.18
8/15/18 - $188,050.23 - not as big a gain.  Booking travel for weddings (getting 5% cash back on airfare on one of my cards) and bachelor parties.  Also needed a new desk that the DW approves of (nothing even remotely acceptable was on Craig’s list) and baby proofing has begun because the baby will begin crawling soon.  Tons of expenses in the last half of the year and no big windfalls. Blah the first half of the year is more fun.

As long as you can stomach the flipside ($4k loss for 2% loss)

Doing a little happy dance here. Just hit another milestone.

Took me 39 years to hit 50K
Then only 14 months after that to hit 100K
Today another 15 months later i'm at 150K.

I know that's pretty slow compared to a lot of people on here but since I started so late, I still have plenty more catching up to do. Won't be able to retire early like most people here but I should be able to knock a few years off early anyway

I can't remember how far along we were last time I posted...but we passed the $250K mark around March of 2018! Can't wait to hit $300 and then on to the next. We're adding ~$1600/month.

Very inspiring to read about other people's progress!

Thanks Nick Miller!  I dipped my toes into the champagne pool of that other thread with my first post.  At that net worth level, it seems that a lot of the participants are really racking up investments with decent gains recently or have big incomes (or both) - I think I'm going to be the turtle in that group!

Congrats @merlin7676 !  Great job.  It does go faster and faster.

Liking all these updates and getting inspired by all the dedication and tracking! :)

2/1/18 - $103,481 (holy crap, I'm into 6 figures!)
3/1/18 - $100,568 (almost got demoted from group from market losses, yikes)
4/1/18 - $103,798 (back in the green)
5/1/18 - $108,542 (that's more like it)
6/1/18 - $117,139 (good month!)
7/1/18 - $121,565 (positive again)
8/1/18 - $126,719 (wow, this has been a long bull market...)

This month has been going well, so I'm hoping to have another positive report for 9/1/18, well into the $130s!

5/31/17 - $100,187
6/31/17 - $102,500
7/31/17 - $104,809

I'm hoping to get to at least $120K by the end of the year on NW and cross $100K just in investments.

9/29/17 - $109,800
This will hopefully turn over $110K by Monday after my last 401K deposit hits. I'm up to $95K in invested value. Still finding it difficult to come up with extra liquid to put away though. Seems like every month there's been new expenses that crop up I have to take care of like a major car repair, plane ticket for a conference coming up, healthcare, etc.

12/31/17 - $121,515
Very happy to have finished the year over my goal of $120K net worth. I was able to cross the line mostly due to the swelling market as well as cryptocurrency values, although I don't have much in crypto. Anxious to see what happens in 2018 as I feel we are due for a market crash of some sort soon. Rumor has it my office is going to be closed sometime this year, so I'm looking forward to a chance to make a career change, maybe. I'll also get a handsome severance package, so I'm looking forward to being laid off!

6/19/18 - $133,000

Well, it turns out they are going to hold on selling our buildings at work for a while now. They didn't get the kind of offers they were hoping for and I doubt they ever will, so I could be here indefinitely. But good to know for sure what is going on and not be living in limbo about my future. Now that I'm not getting the severance, I'm free to make other plans. I'm hoping to hit a NW of $150K by the end of the year.

I just made a loan of $3K to my sister to help her pay off her credit card debt; I have been encouraging and helping her get debt free and she's really committed to it now.  Last year I helped her do a balance transfer of her highest interest consumer debt to a card with a long interest free period and now the interest free period is running out but she still has a little bit to go, so I loaned her the money and had her sign a family loan agreement to pay me 3% interest under a 6 month term. I didn't want to charge her more since she's family and that is nearly twice what I was earning on that same amount in my Ally savings anyway.

8/27/18 - $138,916 (if you count the $2500 my sister owes me)

Been feeling that restless desperation again of wanting to be done with this already. I can't stand the thought of obligatory work for another 5-8 years. I'm truly contemplating quitting my job when I reach $150K NW. However, that target moves around in my head a lot with my emotions...sometimes I think I'll quit when my investments reach $150K or when I have over $20K liquid cash...or sometimes I promise myself I won't do it until I reach $200K NW.

Either way, I need a break but I feel foolish to give up my comfortable position. There's no guarantee of what might happen if I just up and quit. I'm thankful for what my decent job has given me for eight years, but I have no motivation to do it anymore. I'm heavily involved in a Libertarian political campaign right now, so maybe when that is over, I might have time to really invest in a good side hustle I've got some ideas for.

I'm new here! Not to the blog, but to the forums. I joined the race and put in my info: I hope that's cool, I couldn't find any rules that there stated I should do otherwise. I'm about exactly halfway: 99k in August 2017, 173k today.

I'm Alli, I'm a 27 yo (as of today!) working in technology in Bay Area (cliche, I know) and as of now represented by one of the many-shades-of-blue-lines. Some dumb-money things I've done: purchased crypto (I sold to get me to break-even a few months ago, and kept the remaining $13k in profits in the market), not made any real-estate investments but spend dozens of hours zillow-ing, amongst others.

Some smart-money things I've done: fallen in love with cooking / relentlessly push for more compensation / choose a career where it's straigthfwd to link work to company's bottom line (leverage <3) / never develop a taste for clothes shoes make-up etc.

Super pumped to go back in this thread and read all the updates. My money goals are to take 2-4 months off in the next 12 months to do exploring (really love backpacking + cycling and would love to piece together a few international trips) + spend time with family, but I'd feel much more comfortable doing so with $200 in the bank.

If it's relevant, I'm living with a long-term boyfriend who (while savings-saving / an amazing human) has been unemployed for several months and having trouble finding work: I don't love him any less for it but it does make the journey to dual-FI much more difficult. I would love to connect with people who have gone through similar situations.

This month went according to plan, work may be slowing down here but I'm still in good shape to hit targets this year.

I don't count my house equity, so this is just investments minus loans (I invest instead of paying off my low interest loans).

I'm crashing two threads and this will be my joint account. I like my personal one since it's easier to motivate myself then my wife, but it still nice seeing the change in combined NW/Investments which is what matters.

05/01/18: $109,333

08/01/18: $118,949
09/01/18: $121,714 => $2,765 increase (1950 contribrutions, -102 market loss, 917 mortgage pay down)

Finished my parental leave this month so happy with this gain. My EESP shares still account for close to 50% of my investments, and continue to reek havoc with my returns each month. Slowly working to lower their allocation, while trying not to incur too much capital gains tax. Besides that, I am back to work full time, so hoping to ramp up my savings for the remainder of the year. Year end goal is $135,000, with a stretch goal of $140,000.

Joining! Took me ~6 years to go from 10k to 100k, we'll see if i can beat that for 250..

Investments (Net worth)

May 2008 - $0 (9) (i graduated from college, LOL)
Jan 2011 - $10,000 (9,000)
Jan 2012 - $15,000 (25,000)
Jan 2013 - $23,000 (28,000)
Jan 2014 - $37,000 (46,000)
Jan 2015 - $40,000 (45,000) (started current job, big pay bump)
Aug 2015 - $50,000 (59,000) (discovered MMM)
Jan 2016 - $70,000 (80,000)
Jan 2017 - $129,000 (149,000)
Jan 2018 - $141,000 (408,000) (bought a house in 2017)
Aug 2018 - $169,000 (432,000)

I'm amazed that I accumulated $120,000 in the past 3 years while also putting $50,000 down for a house. I'm always telling myself I need to do better but I'm doing pretty great!

Jun-18   $214,786.28

Jul-18       $231,769.16

Sweet mother of...
The way you've been increasing, you could be done by next month! I think you should make that your stretch goal.

Ha, thank you - we'll see...property taxes due next month. Want to make sure I make it within 12 months of starting, that was my target.

You motivated me! Made it to $249,123 (held off on car seats and fence stain for the month) and going to count that as graduation - going to make this my last post here. I'll make my intro post to the next thread tomorrow once everything gets settled up on Mint.

Good luck everyone and thanks for keeping me on track!

That's a jump for me!  Though $3000 is market and $400 was cash back on a CC statement.  But I still came out positive on my own this month - that feels like a first!

First number is retirement savings, second is total NW including cash emergency savings and real estate equity.

January 2015: $98,619

January 2016: $101,235
December 2016: $140,779 (total NW $269,089)

January 2017: $151,307 (total NW $276,052)
December 2017: $193,677 (total NW $364,276)

January 2018: $203,876
February 2018: $200,867 (total NW $382,740)
March 2018: $196,371 (total NW $393,470)
April 2018: $197,690 (total NW $397,029)
May 2018: $201,800 (total NW $372,420) hit with a special assessment at the condo
June 2018: $202,198 (total NW $376,525)
July 2018: $208,954 (total NW $380,041) Starting a new job in August which will finally allow me to max out my 401(k)
August 2018:$213,699 (total NW $385,100)

I know the total NW is over $250k but I'm focused on retirement only for this challenge. A good chunk of the NW is real estate equity.

I will join in the race but only counting my "Early Retirement stash". So this does not include my emergency-fund, pension capital, or payed-off residence.

These are the "end of the month" numbers:
Month      Early Retirement Stash
Jan 2016   €  58,971.00
...
Jan 2017   €  86 368.00
...
Jan 2018   € 119 817.00
Feb 2018   € 118 464.00
Mar 2018   € 115 094.00
Apr 2018   € 122 622.00
May 2018   € 128 787.00
Jun 2018   € 130 283.31
Jul 2018   € 135 595.00

Aug 2018  € 138,342.00

Brand new to this forum, this is literally my first post. Excited to see this take off towards 250k and beyond. Started professional career in this country back 2012 at 31 years old, effectively starting from scratch. Super fortunate to have gotten a great opportunity in 2016 that has really allowed me to catch up a number of years in a short time span. My wife has been retired nearly 15 years, she is significantly older than me and she is therefore not interested in planning for the future. This is 100% a solo effort.

Edited: Added a lot more detail from what I could find on Mint.

Oct-12: $0.00
Nov-12: $432.15
Dec-12: $1192.8
Jan-13: $1542.90
Jan-14: $7286.11
Jan-15: $16985.5
Jan-16: $26770.16
Jan-17: $58399.77
Jan-18: $95469.77
Feb-18: 111724.81
Mar-18: $112878.91
Apr-18: $117425.35
May-18: $123001.77
Jun-18: $125427.65
Jul-18: $135341.45
Aug-18: $138059.7
Sep-18: $142216.90

I currently max out 401k, my Roth IRA and my ESPP which is pretty much all I can get away with due to S/O not being on board (which is somewhat understandable as she is on a pension already and significantly older than me). I also put about $4400 per year in HSA currently and may consider maxing that out soon as well. We could do with more of an EF buffer but again, she sees no value in it as she considers her income '100% guaranteed'. It is for the most part as the retirement fund she is relying on has done really well.
