Moving along nicely. Lowered my emergency fund and cash position to pay off debt the last two months, which I'm happy to report are all paid back (other than mortgage). Next goal is to fill up all my non-taxable accounts!  Will also get a good bump in the next month or two from a tax return of a few thousand dollars.

I stopped posting here for the last 17 months. Was updating my Networth monthly on my own sheets, but I'm in that boring middle part and I was focusing on other things (Like work, education + credentials, hobbies, renovations, etc). However, I've had a really good year. Due to some changes in mortgage rules in Canada just prior to a condo sale, I got extremely lucky on the sale, raises through work, some minor side hustle incomes, decent market gains, my networth grew to $393,000 on August 1, 2018. I guess I graduated this group months ago! This worked out to an average increase of over $15k/month for the last 17 months. I owe most of that to some very inexpensive but strategic renovations and really lucky timing. It's back to a more moderate level of monthly growth but the snowball is rolling downhill now....

But I'm not sure exactly how to calculate the NW. The number above is from personal capital, which includes checking accts, 401k, IRAs, HSA, 529, mortgage, student loans and Zillow current house value.

I also pay into the pension fund at work. If I leave before I vest (or maybe even after?) I can take my contributions with me. I have about $30k (35k by yr end). Should I include that in NW?

I didn't include value of any other personal property. (Car, SUV, small tractor, jewelry, etc) but I did include house value. Is that ok?  Or do I excluded house value too?

My goal by December 31 is NW 225k. A reasonable plan is 90.6k in savings from income. I'm hoping to makes up the rest in cutting my grocery and utility bills. Plus of course any market gains. How do you estimate these?

I think different people use different information. Use whatever makes sense to you. I am using this to track my invested money only, not net worth. I do put in the paid off part of the house in the calculations, based on how much we paid for the house only. But I don't pay attention to Zillow, because it will only matter how much it's worth when we try to sell it. If I paid attention to Zillow, I would have $70,000 more than I use in my calculations. Which would be nice, but i don't count on it. But if it makes sense to you to use Zillow, do!

Do you know any realtors?  They could look at comparables and give you their opinion on what your house would sell for.  Or you could take a stab at DIYing that by looking at sales records in the surrounding area yourself?

If you want to calculate net worth, you have to include any real-estate (Including the house you live in) and related mortgages. Some people on this thread are only tracking investment accounts instead of tracking net worth.

Worth by what measure?

Is my paid for condo really worth what my tax appraisal was, or would it be more realistic to start with the (slightly lower) amount _I_ think it would sell for and then deduct what I would have to pay to get it in saleable condition (pull carpets, put in new flooring, paint everything, install kitchen cabinets not from the 1970's, etc.) and any expenses this would incur? The difference could be $25,000 or more. I know my investments to the penny.

@tarheeldan Congrats on moving on up.  I fee like the Hendersons telling Harry we don't ever want to see you again because we know it is best for you. 

Before you go, is there any way to make a couple changes to the Big Board on the Google Doc?  Maybe not, but I would love to see a Year to Date $ and/or % change on the Big Board, and I would also love to see a months to victory column added to the Graduate Tab.  I figure the Net Worth column should always be near $250K,  but how long it takes to get there is the fun part. 

If it is tons of work no big deal.  If it is something anyone can do, even better, but I am not proficient in google docs or excel. 

What is your best guess timetable to 500K?

Well, it may or may not happen, but it's the new goal after we hit $231K in July. I don't report my info until mid-month, so that still gives me mid Aug, mid Sept, and mid Oct to make $19K in progress.

I'll have another royalty check to report when I check in next week, as well as a small payment from a new publisher. We continue to put about $3000 in 401ks each month, so we have a shot. But if it ends up being Dec, I can live with that.
