Hey @moonpalace, I didn't mean to leave you out! You, me and @Canadian Ben are all racing to the goal by December 31st.

I don't want to brag, but I just sold three more copies of my zombie novel, so that's another $2.97 toward my goal!

I want in!

I cannot remember the last time I posted so below are my numbers.

Dec-17: 190k
Jan-18: 198k
Feb-18: 199k
Mar-18: 201k
Apr-18: 207k
May-18: 213k

My projections have me crossing the 250k line in December.

Hey @Virtus , I hope you don't mind the tag but it's so easy to miss posts directed at specific folks on this forum. So it's officially you, me, @Canadian Ben and @moonpalace. I sold more zombie novels this month so it's not really fair to the rest of you, but oh well. I'll post my numbers in a few days (I post mid-month)

I opened two bank accounts and a CC for welcome bonuses. They are my zombie novels :D

So the "Race within a Race" update is:

@Canadian Ben  $221,000
Nick Miller   $217,559.28
@Virtus    $213,000.00
@moonpalace  $186,416.00

Let's all hit $250K by year's end even if it means taking in three roommates and surviving all the whacky hi jinks that ensue.

May 2017    $100,755

So Mint has me at just over $100k, woohoo.  I expect it will take 4-5 years to reach $250k at my current pace. Hoping to accelerate that.  We shall see.  Still have a bit of low interest debt to pay off.  Making steady progress.
I thought I crossed the $100k line in June but it was May.  Oops. I've been looking forward to my one year check up and then missed it.
May 2018  - $141,036
Increase of $40,281 in a year.  Respectable. I feel good about this.
Hoping to be at $250k Dec 2019

5/31/17 - $100,187
6/31/17 - $102,500
7/31/17 - $104,809

I'm hoping to get to at least $120K by the end of the year on NW and cross $100K just in investments.

9/29/17 - $109,800
This will hopefully turn over $110K by Monday after my last 401K deposit hits. I'm up to $95K in invested value. Still finding it difficult to come up with extra liquid to put away though. Seems like every month there's been new expenses that crop up I have to take care of like a major car repair, plane ticket for a conference coming up, healthcare, etc.

12/31/17 - $121,515
Very happy to have finished the year over my goal of $120K net worth. I was able to cross the line mostly due to the swelling market as well as cryptocurrency values, although I don't have much in crypto. Anxious to see what happens in 2018 as I feel we are due for a market crash of some sort soon. Rumor has it my office is going to be closed sometime this year, so I'm looking forward to a chance to make a career change, maybe. I'll also get a handsome severance package, so I'm looking forward to being laid off!

6/19/18 - $133,000

Well, it turns out they are going to hold on selling our buildings at work for a while now. They didn't get the kind of offers they were hoping for and I doubt they ever will, so I could be here indefinitely. But good to know for sure what is going on and not be living in limbo about my future. Now that I'm not getting the severance, I'm free to make other plans. I'm hoping to hit a NW of $150K by the end of the year.

I just made a loan of $3K to my sister to help her pay off her credit card debt; I have been encouraging and helping her get debt free and she's really committed to it now.  Last year I helped her do a balance transfer of her highest interest consumer debt to a card with a long interest free period and now the interest free period is running out but she still has a little bit to go, so I loaned her the money and had her sign a family loan agreement to pay me 3% interest under a 6 month term. I didn't want to charge her more since she's family and that is nearly twice what I was earning on that same amount in my Ally savings anyway.

I just crossed $100k so I'm gettin' in!

I think the motivation to reach $250k will already be there for me, but hey this will keep me accountable.
It's been one year since my last post in this thread (seems most of you post more often, maybe I should do that...)
anyway, I'm now at $157,512 per PersonalCapital. woo!

I wasn't going to call it until I finished spending money on my kitchen remodel... but I'm up to $265,000 networth now.  (This includes everything... equity, cash, pension contributions, retirement accounts, etc.)

There's no way I'll dip under $250,000 again before this is over, unless there's an epic market dump.  So... this is it!  I'm graduating to the next thread!  So long and thanks for all the fish!

(I'll be back, though... I should hit $100,000 in just retirement accounts by the end of the year.)

Goal of $250,000 by Sept of 2019.

Jan 1/16 - $105,809.20
Apr 1/16 - $108,749.60
Jul 1/16 - $117,155.44
Oct 1/16 - $118,878.00
Jan 1/17 - $126,041.95
Apr 1/17 - $138,777.41
Jul 1/17 - $144,570.34
Oct 1/17 - $152,266.77
Jan 1/18 - $164,613.88
Feb 1/18 - $165,721.03
Mar 1/18 - $173,486.45
Apr 1/18 - $174,725.03
May 1/18 - $180,806.91
June 1/18 - $186,975.44

July 1/18 - $188,096.17

It's that time again already... wow, June flew by.

Wife went crazy and spent over $2,000 on stuff for the house, a couple of bikes and stuff for one of our kids birthdays.  If not for that expense we'd be pretty much exactly where I predicted.

On another note, I started riding a bike to work earlier this month.  Since gas only cost me about $20 a month, it'll take a few years for the bike to pay for itself, but at least I'm getting some exercise.

Did the math for the first time and was happily surprised. Still not sure how quickly we can realistically save but tracking is the first step!

6/1/2017 - $115,738
6/30/2017 $117,232 ~ +1.29%
7/31/2017 $119,087 ~ +1.58%
8/31/2017 $123,218 ~ +3.47%
9/30/2017 $123,886 ~ +0.54%
10/31/2017 $125,468.75 +1.28%
11/30/2017 $124,036.64 ~-1.14%   - Almost a new leap day  ;)
12/31/2017 $130,952.23 ~5.58%   - Side note: previous month didn't have tax liens so this % is a little skewed
1/31/2018  $135,011.70 ~ 3.10%
2/28/2018  $135,864.07 ~ 0.63%
3/30/2018   $138,236.93 ~2.39%
4/31/2018   $146,471.66 ~5.96%
5/31/2018 $149,243.29 ~ 1.89%
Numbers based on Mint

6/29/2018 Fire: $138,672.35 + Medi $10,383.62 = $149,055.97 ~-.13%

As Predicted, computer cost me about 5k (Yes it is a VERY nice PC) and will last a while.  (Don't wanna jinx it with a time limit!)

Might notice I have this a little separated.  The reason is that I decided I want a separate fund for planned/misc medical expenses.  This is an extra amount on top of my fire number and isn't required to be fully funded (though mostly is the goal) when I FIRE.
I also got a neat little surprise and a big Surprise last week.  The little surprise was I stumbled into my HSA account, finally!  (Documented how to's were not accurate and HR swears we are full of crap!)   And the BIG surprise was I could invest it or at least most of it.  So I did!

I am joining this race from the $10k-$100k race!  Hopefully not too early.

I don't count true NW but thought it would be nice to look back and see it, so I added it!  What I am really tracking is the "Invested Total" column.  I also don't count different savings accounts if they have a specific purpose (maternity leave, self-employment taxes, etc).

What is happening in 2018:  Baby #2 is due in late March!  I accepted a job offer last week that includes a 30+% raise. I will not be able to contribute to the new company 401k until I have been there for 30 days, very close to when I take unpaid maternity leave, and we are holding off on putting anything into the IRA until after maternity leave so our Invested Total should follow the market increases/dips for the next several months with very little contributions added.  We also plan to finish off student loans in 2018 (finally).  If DH's business continues growing as it has for the last few months I would love to max his IRA and then will need to make decisions of paying down debt vs investing in another rental vs increasing my 401k vs opening an IRA for me vs increasing contributions to 529 Plans.

Sometimes the hardest part is just waiting and letting the plan happen.  I know I shouldn't be disappointed that we are half way through the year and I am not seeing very much progress because that was the plan but it is hard.  I cannot make it to step ten if I try to skip steps 1-7.  Have healthy baby 1st Done, make it through maternity leave off of savings 2nd Done, replenish savings 3rd In Progress, finish off student loans 4th Aug/Sept/Oct, put in years worth of IRA 5th, increase 401k contributions or IRA 6th, watch things happen (WITHOUT CHANGING THE PLAN) 7th, continue to increase savings periodically 8th, enjoy hitting milestones 9th, FIRE 10th.  I have a bad habit of stealing money from a different goal/category to try to move the plan along faster and then end up regretting it later because I was putting money in that goal/category for a reason and now it isn't there.

Including IRAs, 401(k), HSA, and Investment Account.
Jan 1, 2016 - $81,396
Aug 1, 2016 - $120,039
Oct 1, 2016 - $122,943
Jan 1, 2017 - $128,893
Mar 1, 2017 - $151,772
May 1, 2017 - $156,756
Aug 1, 2017 - $170,072
Sep 1, 2017 - $174,170
Oct 1, 2017 - $189,054  - moved $8K into Investment Account from Emergency Savings. While overall NW did not increase much, moving money around into respective accounts pushes the needle dramatically.
Nov 1, 2017 - $196,010 - yippee!! so close to $200K!
Dec 1, 2017 - $201,106 - nice! Crossed over to the $200k line. Let's hope I can stay for awhile. Still projecting Jan 2019 to hit $250k.
Jan 1, 2018 - $205,595.91
Feb 1, 2018 - $216,842.97
Mar 1, 2018 - $205,429.70 - Yikes, all my contributions and then some are gone.... Oh well, keep plugging away! Bonus hits this month, so I will hopefully see a bump.
Apr 1, 2018 - $214,541.70 - nice, climbing back up to Feb numbers.

May 1, 2018 - $218,916.00 - finally surpassed February's high! Still hoping to recover more of my contributions this year, as I seem to be missing some....... ha

June 1, 2018 - $220,322 - this is just market increases. I changed jobs and have 30 days to hold until 401k will start again. This also includes the $1500 loss of employer contributions I missed out for not staying until 100% vested. I'll take the loss any day to be away from that place.

July 1, 2018 - $224,289 - 6 months to go to hit my goal of $250K by Jan 1, 2019!!
*edited as I missed my new 401(k) from new job

1 Jul 2018$255,200.36$6,208.25

Made it! See you around, people. Soon, I hope.

Some sooner than others, by the look of it.

First number is retirement savings, second is total NW including cash emergency savings and real estate equity.

January 2015: $98,619

January 2016: $101,235
December 2016: $140,779 (total NW $269,089)

January 2017: $151,307 (total NW $276,052)
December 2017: $193,677 (total NW $364,276)

January 2018: $203,876
February 2018: $200,867 (total NW $382,740)
March 2018: $196,371 (total NW $393,470)
April 2018: $197,690 (total NW $397,029)
May 2018: $201,800 (total NW $372,420) hit with a special assessment at the condo
June 2018: $202,198 (total NW $376,525)

I know the total NW is over $250k but I'm focused on retirement only for this challenge. A good chunk of the NW is real estate equity.

Hey as people check in for the month, I figured I'd invite folks to our "challenge within a challenge!" Four of us are in the "it will be tough, but pushing for $250K NW by Dec 31st!" category.

So if you are in that category, just tag me and I will add you to the challenge...within a challenge.

I will join in the race but only counting my "Early Retirement stash". So this does not include my emergency-fund, pension capital, or payed-off residence.

These are the "end of the month" numbers:
Month      Early Retirement Stash
Jan 2016   €  58,971.00
...
Jan 2017   €  86,368.00
...
Jan 2018   € 119,817.00
Feb 2018   € 118,464.00
Mar 2018   € 115,094.00
Apr 2018   € 122,622.00
May 2018   € 128,787.00

Jun 2018   € 130.283,31

04/01/18: $104,410
05/01/18: $109,333
06/01/18: $111,851
07/01/18: $115,134 => $3,280 increase ( $1,033 contributions, $1,640 market gains, $608 debt repayment)

First full month of parental leave went well. Market gains were driven by my ESP shares.

Hey as people check in for the month, I figured I'd invite folks to our "challenge within a challenge!" Four of us are in the "it will be tough, but pushing for $250K NW by Dec 31st!" category.

So if you are in that category, just tag me and I will add you to the challenge...within a challenge.

My NW increased 37% from 1/1 to 7/1.  Another 37% in the next 6 months would put me at...*checks math*...$296,580??!

The first 6 months did include a bonus, a larger than expected tax refund, so...Still, only need a NW increase of 15.6% to graduate!

Also a reminder, if anyone would like to keep track in a Google Doc, we are here - https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1Z8OcegKpbeNJoqSI0nzoBuypFKqDD7BT2SS60oFEeCw/edit#gid=1302523503

I'm in! Although, it is already my own personal challenge to be at $250k by 1/1/19. That one day of 12/31/18 might be a struggle :0) I need the friendly competition to push this over the finish line.
