02/2018 $138,015
03/2018 $137,779 < -- horrible market "correction", lost $237

That's probably good trick to stay positive.  I was more focused on the fact that my contributions were vaporized (probably only temporarily).

Hi guys!

I was elected Treasurer for an organization and their books were in pretty rough shape (blech) so I've been too sick of looking at numbers (I look at numbers all day at my job too of course) to feel like doing much personal finance stuff. Finished fixing up the organization's books (at least the main of what I want to accomplish in this volunteer role) so I'm back!

Good to see people taking the little dip we had last month in stride. My net worth fell by $4,148.20 despite my tax return (too big, I increased withholdings this year to avoid that next year) and a small employer retirement contribution. Oh well! $224,273.80 and still hoping to graduate by my birthday in late August :-)

End Q4 2016: $146,500

Just over 100k to go!

Up to $173,500. Hoping to break through the $200k mark by October.

Up around $205,000 after the correction, was sitting around $217,000 at the apex. Hope to keep cruising here in 2018!

Thank you! Nice to be back :-) You didn't have much of a dip last month, must have been saving a lot!

A solid month savings wise, but my portfolio also isn't invested as aggressively as most on this board. ;)

Hi everyone.   I would like to join this race.  I've been trying to be frugal and save more ever since I got out of debt in late 2013.  I just found MMM last December, and this January I created a Mint account.  This is the first time I've ever tried to actually keep a written budget.  Oh my gosh, it's so much FUN!  Maybe I'm just a total nerd.  Anyways, this place is amazing and you all are very inspiring.

Total NW

Jan 2014-  $10k
Jan 2015-  $30k
Jan 2016-  $52k
Jan 2017-  $80k
Jan 2018-  $106k

Feb 1, 2018-  $109k
March 1, 2018-  $113k

2016-08-01   102
2016-10-01   110
2016-12-31   138
2017-03-31   162

2017-09-30   198
2017-12-24   232
2018-03-29   242

It's been a poor quarter mainly due to stock returns however I'm close to having another 10 grand to throw into the market so the next update will push us past 250k.

Bills are done, and markets are closed, so what the heck.

Up $8,430.68 to $242,448.77.

Took advantage of some overtime, and my 403b match for last year finally dropped in. Good month!

Couldn't wait considering the markets won't be changing any between now and 4/1:

Received my company profit sharing + a significant tax "refund" which was really a credit owed to us.  Despite the rocky market this month, we've crossed the $250k threshold:
6/1/2016: 102k
4/1/2018: 251k

Life events between: adopted a little boy, got promoted, started a new job in a new state, sold a house, and bought a house.

Here's to just as much excitement but hopefully fewer life altering changes in the next thread!

Congrats on graduating, @aneel! Those past two years sound like a freakin' gauntlet. Hope to see you in the next thread by the end of the year!

And looks like we'll be losing @SpareChange  and @steveo very soon as well! Hope you fine folks hit your marks soon too!

Another month of poor market returns for me. Also went on vacation this month, so progress has slowed down a bit.

11/30/2017 $124,036.64 ~-1.14%   - Almost a new leap day  ;)
12/31/2017 $130,952.23 ~5.58%   - Side note: previous month didn't have tax liens so this % is a little skewed

Hmmm... considering the market(and the overall downward movement), it's nice to see overall, things going up!

Mar 2018       $226,966.28
Apr 2018     $225,520.37 -$1445.91

Large expenses this month: $700 Costco cash card (timed for a 10% Discover cash back bonus), plane tickets for Thanksgiving travel, $1250 in federal taxes, and $500 in honeymoon travel expenses. Restaurant spending was a little high this month.

Upcoming expenses/income: I should get a state tax refund next month, and we will have additional wedding expenses, plus some home renovation spending. I may be accelerating some utility and insurance payments to hit a minimum credit card spend. Take-home pay should decrease by about $100 after adjusting withholding.

I wonder how long we'll be buying stocks on sale?

It is going to be really weird for those of us who have ever only known gains our whole investing life of up to the past 9 years (almost literally, the Great Recession bottomed out March 9, 2009) when the good times stop being good.

Frankly, I'm looking forward to it. I started investing in 2012 and have never experienced anything other than small downturns. If you have a stable job, a sustained bear market during your working years is a tremendous opportunity to stockpile assets.

I am trying to keep that mindset too. "Focus on the number of shares you're buying, Nick, not necessarily on the current value. When the market goes on a strong bull run again, you'll see how fast your portfolio rockets up."

But yes, with everyone having apps, and able to check balances whenever, it's hard not to focus on the current value.

Taxable investments

03/2018: $170,547 +$42,355/-$1,920 Contribution/Investment Loss

WOW
Sold a house, reinvested 40k of the equity here, the rest went into the new house.  Nowhere nearly as impressive with the background story.

January 1, 2018        : $97,318
February 2, 2018       : $104,695
March 1,2018            : $107,006
March 30, 2018         : $115,189

Tax returns, bonus and an extra paycheck month helped increase net worth despite the stock market volatility.
Hopefully raise next month will add cherry to the icing.

Ouch.  Replaced our AC unit this month and with the poor market it was a recipe for bad numbers.  At least investments are on sale. Onward and upwards.

Investments and liquid assets, not including condo equity:

April 15, 2017 -           164,900
May 1, 2017 -             ? (Lost info)
June 1, 2017 -            ? (Lost info)
July 1, 2017 -             180,808
August 10, 2017 -       189,280
September 1, 2017 -   193,727
October 1, 2017 -        209,968
November 1, 2017 -     220,602
December 1, 2017 -     225,918
January 1, 2018 -        232,213
February 1, 2018 -       245,447
March 1, 2018 -           242,789
April 1, 2018 -             246,140

A positive month despite the market downturn.  My condo is rented again, which is a huge help, and the renters are supposed to buy in a few months if all goes well.  The government owes me something more than 10k between all the back pay for my job and my tax return.  I feel like I am just a free loan to them...  Hopefully I will get some of that money this next month.

Feb 1, 2016 - $90k
Jan 1, 2017 - $177k
Jan 1, 2018 - $196k
Feb 1, 2018 - $214,462
March 1, 2018 $225,651
April 1, 2018 $238,764

I知 still on track to hit my goal of 250k this month, but it値l be a little close and if the stock market drops even 1-2% it won稚 happen.

I知 also the sole breadwinner and as of now I知 quitting my job on May 4th as long as everything still works out as planned. Our savings will like drop from around $13,500/mo down to $10,000/mo, but I値l be working 50 hrs/wk instead of 75, and will be in a far less stressful position. The trade off to me will be worth it. Biggest fear is leaving current job and something falling through on the new one. Lot of money left on that table.
