Starting out at --->
June  2017     $125,500
JULY  2017     $126,500

1,000 bucks this month, not very impressive. House value went up but I do not count that in this net worth value. Waiting on a distribution from an investment that should boost me up next month hopefully.

16th March 2017 - $156,970.56
14th April 2017 - $172,158.80 (+$15,188.24)
18th May 2017 - $187,986.35 (+$15,827.55)
18th June 2017 - $219,742.03 (+$31,755.68) Whatever small amount I had in cryptocurrencies went bonkers 😳

14th July 2017 - $200,846.03 (-$18,896) - Vanguard dropped over 5% and the crypto portfolio dropped 34%. Additionally I paid for house renovation, moving, bond, and prepaid the rent. So the drop may look dramatic but it's really where it was 6 weeks ago. Also I own way more Vanguard units now than during the last update.

Agreeing w CBen!

Nick your aside reminded me of conversation w friends after Game of Thrones last night during which I bit my lip and stayed silent:
Friend A who is now making $200k (and lives w fiancee who makes $80kish I think) says "Yeah we should probably start saving something, but I'm just having so much fun.....!" This is response to Friend B who said she can't afford to join Friend A's hourlong $80 per person group personal training sessions (Friend B is making at least $150k and is waiting for her yearly $20k bonus to finally be able to put a first time buyer 5% downpayment on a house....)
So $40k a year is HUGE! Even to those who could probably do more....

5/01/2017:  $198,456
5/15/2017:  $200,404
5/31/2017:  $207,044
6/15/2017: $213,996
7/5/2017: $219,933
7/17/2017: $225,853  - car fixable so that's a relief and only will be pulling 33% out of savings rate this time round!

Retirement only, does not include real estate or emergency savings:

January 2015: $98,619

January 2016: $101,235
December 2016: $140,779 (total NW $269,089)

January 2017: $151,307 (total NW $276,052)
February 2017: $156,620 (total NW $285,663)
March 2017: $161,585 (total NW $302,055)
April 2017: $166,111 (total NW $306,801)
May 2017: $169,686 (total NW $327,523)
June 2017: $171,784 (total NW $335,026)
July 2017: $175,590 (total NW $342,138)

I know the total NW is over $250k but I'm focused on retirement only for this challenge. A good chunk of the NW is real estate equity.

6/30/2017 $117232 ~ +1.29%

7/31/2017 $119,087 ~ +1.58%

Does not include car loan (3200) to be payed off in September.

Also have approximately 2k that work owes me for travel expenses.  That should all be dropped directly into savings once I get that check.

Nice!! I'm in the same place right now. I know $250K is going to come faster than the first $100K, but I think I'm going to be more impatient this time around.

Welcome all the new ones. Impatience is a problem, the higher you get the more you want to accelerate the process, this means more risky investments. So i have to breeeath out......

Live long and prosper!

Yes, this is my gambling addiction!

I am however grateful to be almost to $105K today. Despite the nagging impatience, there is something reassuring about at least being over this first 6-figure hump. My monkey brain tells me I'll feel more at peace when I hit $200K, but I know I'll probably feel just as impatient as I do now.

We have now closed on our house so things are stable enough to join.  Tracking everything except real estate in this challenge

6/30:  198.7k
6/30:  198.7k
7/31:  207.5k

If we can continue this pace, we would hit 250k at the end of the year.

Feb 1st - 167,752
March 1st - 177,448
April 1st - 183,917
May 1st - 189,025
June 1st - 195,189
July 1st - 202,048
August 1st - 211,263

Pretty decent month.  Also just got a promotion on Friday and also confirmed a bit of contract side hustle work today that will be starting next week, so looking good!  Going on vacation for the rest of the week, so that'll negatively contribute this month, but shouldn't be bad.

I haven't clocked in here yet, even though it was suggested. As such:

Assets

Property Value - $150,000
RPP - $2700
TFSA - $4500
RRSP - $850
Savings Accounts - $0
Chequing Accounts - $20

Liabilities

Mortgage - $20,000
Credit Cards - $7000
CIBC Loan - $4500
Desjardins Loan - $10,000
Income Tax Owing - $1570

Net Worth - $115,000

Net Worth At Year End

Assets

Secondary Property Value - $55,000
RPP - $3500
TFSA - $150
RRSP - $900

Savings Accounts - $4750
Chequing Accounts - $10,550

Liabilities

Primary Mortgage - $17,900
Secondary Mortgage - $47,950
... and that's it.

Updated Net Worth - $161,000

A year and a half later here comes an update. I'm also going to really streamline this.

Assets

Primary Residence Value - $150,000 (I'm leaving this alone)
Commercial Property Value - $55,000 (Leaving this alone as well)
Latest Property Acquisition - $15,000 (I will be leaving this value locked in here too)
Retirement Assets - $14,125
Cash Assets - $49,250

Liabilities

Primary Mortgage - $7,450
Secondary Mortgage - $41,250
... and that's it.

Updated Net Worth - $234,675

For a total upward movement of $73,675. If all goes well we may graduate from this race before the year is out!

Welcome to all the new fellows on the march to 250k!

Mar $91,141.45

Still proud to have tipped over the $100,000 mark! I thought it might drop back down under and I'd be disappointed in June, but still the slow steady climb :) 250,000 seems a long long way off, but...
I'll get there someday!!!

First Post!  Been lurking on here for almost 2 years and thought I'd jump in on this.

It took me around 11 years to get to $100,000.

Lately we've been socking away approx. $3,238 a month which represents a savings rate of a little over 53%.

We just had our second child, so my wife is currently on maternity leave until June of 2018 and will likely only go back to work part time, which will kill our savings rate.  I was hoping to have about $200,000 invested by then, but it's looking less and less likely after the bad run the last couple of months (oil prices down and CND dollar rising mean bad returns for us Canadians).

Here are my investments since I've been keeping close track:

Jan 1/16 - $105,809.20
Feb 1/16 - $102,834.20
Mar 1/16 - $105,602.70
Apr 1/16 - $108,749.60
May 1/16 - $111,301.30
Jun 1/16 - $115,863.40
Jul 1/16 - $117,155.44
Aug 1/16 - $121,029.58
Sept 1/16 - $115,764.20
Oct 1/16 - $118,878.00
Nov 1/16 - $121,182.02
Dec 1/16 - $122,740.03
Jan 1/17 - $126,041.95
Feb 1/17 - $126,222.84
Mar 1/17 - $131,614.25
Apr 1/17 - $138,777.41
May 1/17 - $143,059.30
Jun 1/17 (Goal of $150,000) - $145,507.49
Jul 1/17 - $144,570.34
Aug 1/17 - $144,686.48

I'm hoping to get to at least $120K by the end of the year on NW and cross $100K just in investments.

Another big jump this month.  For reasons that I don't entirely understand, my Pension cash out value jumped up 6K since last month (total value ~13K).  Maybe just market performance?  I feel okay counting this number because based on phone conversations I've had with Fidelity, this is an accurate amount if I quit tomorrow and asked for a check that day.  Other than that, we had a friend move in with us so we have an extra $800/mo to invest since he is paying rent.
Plan on staying in this thread until investments reach $250K which should be before the end of the year.

Hit ~$219K today. Had a baby, bought a new vehicle, and other things so it dragged down growth a bit. Hoping to graduate later this year or early next.

Aug. 1 2017 -  131,000

Things are back on track!  This is the first month I haven't had to put money into the new house, and I had some escrow refunds hit on the old house that was sold.  Current house (so many houses!) just got a contract offer, so by the 10th of September it looks like we'll have it sold, and be moved in and getting settled on the new forever home.

Excited to normalize spending, even if it is with a new higher mortgage.

The plan for now is to sock away as much cash for the higher safety reserve while figuring out the new monthly budget, then fund the 529.

Weird to think that 4 years ago I had no house, $65,000 in debt, had yet to even meet my now wife, and almost no retirement savings.  Now it feels like I have stopped clicking up the rollercoaster and am tilting over the top.  College savings, a "new" car, and the mortgage payoff are bumps along the way, but I feel like I've passed the uphill climb in life. (knocks on wood, no jinx).

Disappointing month in the ratio, but it's because I bought a bike. It wasn't particularly expensive, but I didn't have any of the necessary bike accessories, etc. I expect it to save me money long term, although right now my wrist hurts from a ride yesterday, so I may have to work up to using it for longer rides.

Just got back from a 10-day vacation on a budget (road trip, staying with friends/family) and noticed a nice jump for July. I think my goal for 2017 was to hit $150k, which obviously wasn't ambitious enough :)

+$25k this month.  Its hard for me to realize that this is not just optics, but actual gains - we're tracking only invested funds here.  We sold our house for a profit last month and moved into a rental (temporarily).  We kept liquid the most we'll need for our next down payment, and put the rest ($26k) into our investments.  Also dumped my old 401k costing me ~$3k in non-vested ghost balance.  I'm starting to feel like we may actually reach our goals!

$112k today.  My house is going up for sale so that number is bound to fluctuate depending on what's offered.  It is a complete seller's market in this area however; there is literally nothing for sale within $50k of what I'm asking; anything that goes up is sold usually within a week or two.  Kind of excited!

06/30/2017  $112k

Almost!!!

I love this thread, getting to see everyone's progress :-)

___________________________________________________________
Another great month! Up $5,632.14 or 3.2% to $180,150.06!!
This is despite some pretty big spending (thank you, market!):
  • $920 - car repairs (front brakes, brake fluid, serpentine belt, filters, etc.)
  • $450 - veterinarian (ultrasound to check on heart murmur, annual checkup and vaccines)
  • $300 - new mattress - IKEA Sultan from 2008 has had it ; on the plus side, fixed the slats on my Malm bed with $1.75 of wood and help from a really friendly dude at Home Depot!

Some of us are tracking our progress here, feel free to join in:

We'll see how the rest of this year turns out considering my husband quit his job with nothing lined up. I guess we've reached the point of having FU money.
