03/2017 - $130,500
04/2017 - $133,780 (+3280 - Saved $2500, Market Gains $780, Savings Ratio 48.2%)
05/2017 - $138,157 (+4377 - Saved $2835, Market Gains $1542, Savings Ratio 54.4%)
06/2017 - $144,144 (+5987 - Saved $3265, Market Gains $2731, Savings Ratio 61.9%)

Good month on the market for me, but the key is the increasing savings ratio. This month the goal is 64%. Long term I'm hoping that is a stable number, with months better or worse than that. A critical help are credit card bonuses that have given me 2 free flights this year, allowing me to save $900 more than otherwise.

Jan. 1, 2017 - 103,000
Feb. 1, 2017 - 106,500
Mar. 1 2017  - 102,500
Apr. 1  2017 -  110,000
May 1  2017 -  112,500
June 1 2017 -  113,500

Nothing too crazy this past month.  Closing on the sale of the investment house/old house is in 2 weeks, so I won't be floating $2,000 a month like I have the past few months.  Hopefully that will help get me back into the $3000 a month growth range I'd like to be in- at least until the new mortgage kicks in :/

6/1/2017 - $115,738

Numbers are per Mint.  Does not include a ~$4200 car loan.  ( To be Paid off In September.)

So um yea, actually been tracking on a yearly basis for a few years now, well before finding MMM.  Guess I now have a reason to pay a little more attention and keep holding to my "When I eventually get Laid Off Plan"  No specific layoff in mind, I just know it will happen someday, cause Corporate America.    The plan also just happens to coincide with MMM values.  (Pure luck on my part!)

Thanks for posting this. I'm still at the 10-100k race, but like to see progress in other races. Sometimes I feel discouraged because I know I cannot put 5-6k month towards savings: I do not make enough. But when I see a breakout like yours, with market gains making a good chunk of the total savings, makes me feel better about my own plans.

I somehow go up 5-6k a month right now, and it always surprises me, cause I'm definitely not able to save 5-6k per month.  My take-home after taxes and insurance is about 2400 every two weeks (less taken out for taxes cause I'm putting in a decent amount into my 401k tax deferred account), so after rent, food, travel, and whatever else, it always surprises me how it continues to go up so much.  Sometimes there's a bit more from bonus time or a tax refund, but yea.  The last couple days the market has been kind, and my gains have been about 2k...but who knows how long it'll last.

This is my first race that I'm joining, so we'll see how it goes. We just crossed over the $100k mark recently, and I've only been tracking total net worth (which doesn't include our house value or mortgage) for a few months.

1/17 - $71,425.20
2/17 - $81,629.90
3/17 - $90,185.83
4/17 - $106,744.63 (husband got a huge bonus at work that we may have to repay if he quits his job, which is highly likely as he hates it)
5/17 - $112,212.95

I have to say I'm a bit surprised by how fast our net worth has gone up. It's been pushed a long by several work bonuses (for myself and my husband) and a fairly large tax return (yeah, yeah, face punch me).

Does not include real estate.

5/3/16 - $100,825
6/3/16 - $104,923
7/6/16 - $106,848
8/3/16 - $116,321
9/5/16 = $127,594
10/4/16 = $134,384
11/1/16 = $136,144
12/6/16 = $146,890

1/2/17 = $156,358
2/3/17 = $167,434
3/3/17 = $181,696
4/4/17 = $158,601 hubs bought a car ($184,967 with car as asset)
5/4/17 = $165,972 ($191,951 with car as asset)

6/3/17 = $173,407 (NW = $198,839 with car as asset)

I was thinking i should add in the car as an asset, and use the same amount as the loan. That way, when the car is paid off, i'm not counting the car as an asset any more. I don't like to include cars in my net worth. Thoughts??

In accounting, you book the car as an asset and the loan as a liability. Over time, you depreciate / appreciate the car and increase / decrease the liability. Of course, most of the time, the car depreciates and sometimes faster than the loan is paid off so your net worth decreases. Personally, cars are in my net worth since they're a major asset and easy to value from kbb.org and other sources. Everyone calculates it differently but what matters is how you calculate it and that you do it consistently. For example, I include the house, cars, cash and investments as assets and all loans in my calculation. I exclude the house's contents such as jewelry, furniture, etc.

2017
Jan 1:  $170,881  (start of tracking)
Feb 1:  $183,768  (up $12,887,  +7.5%)
Mar 1:  $197,020  (up $13,252,  +7.2%)
Apr 1:  $202,363  (up   $5,343,  +2.7%)
May 1: $223,229  (up $20,866,  +10.3%)
Jun 1:  $244,355  (up $21,126,  +9.5%)

Our NW continues to grow at a good clip.  I'm wondering how long this streak can last as it's not due to our savings rate.  Once again, our overweight position in a couple of stocks has yielded huge returns.  EXAS in particular has been a rocketship ride.  And a couple of other smaller holdings (KERX and DVAX) are finally showing signs of life after being in the basement for a few years.

Wow, this is very refreshing to hear thanks for sharing.

Went back and added more info to mine so people on the slow track can see how things progress.

Thank you Pooperman, I see you just graduated to this race - congrats. I changed my own spreadsheet a little, to break down savings and the market gains as well.  Still baffles me how much money your money can make.

Thanks! I actually broke down how much we've saved vs our NW. We have a savings rate of about 30% over the last 3 years and we saved about $80k. The rest has been market gains and appreciation. It's only going to get more severe from here on out, especially as our invested amount rises (~60k now).

I'll PM you a fancy spreadsheet of how I keep track of stuff that might interest you.

I think I'll join in!

We have almost completely stalled at $224k because of some costly home construction projects since January 2017.  We haven't saved a penny yet this year and it pains me to see the investment accounts only going up in little bits (dividend payouts and market gains).

What was supposed to be a 4-week long basement finishing project, turned into mold discovery, remediation, re-insulation, etc etc etc and THEN the basement finishing got to start.  5 months later, we are ALMOST done.  Paid for everything out-of-pocket of course (had set aside money for the renos); however we are up to $46k in basement costs now, which is much higher than the $24k we'd anticipated.  Anyways-- after next week, I believe the exorbitant basement spending will be done and we will be able to dump a few grand into savings with the next paycheques.  I hope to hit $250k by the end of December.  Fingers crossed!

Real estate not included... just counting straight-up investment accounts.

A warm welcome to all who joined, and congratulations to all on continued progress!

Helped by the market since I was a little spendypants last month:

+$5,119.84 (3.14%) to $168,006.69

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1Z8OcegKpbeNJoqSI0nzoBuypFKqDD7BT2SS60oFEeCw/edit#gid=0

Hoping to break 200k by the end of the year or early next!

I hit 100k in my savings/investments at the end of May. I can't even believe it! :) So, I wanna join in.... But can you tell me if you are posting net worth or if you are posting savings/investment totals? Or should I just do either and identify it?

Whichever you prefer, different people are using whatever makes sense for them.

Ok, I'll just use my savings and investments totals, for simplicity's sake. I should be around $150,000 in equity in my home, but that changes with the real estate market, so I feel like it is never a real number if I don't plan on selling anyway.
January - $81,279.42
February - $88,887.09
March - $91,141.45
April - $96,365.54
May - $100,283.34 :) :) :) :)

Hopefully the trend doesn't slow down, but I think the market has put a lot of help into these numbers. Anyway, slow and steady.

I'm personally doing Networth, that way it's more representative (since the mortgage payments is still savings for principal)

I rent and don't consider my car an asset, so my numbers are based just on what's in my accounts.

Ditto.

I don't include housing since it's not really an asset until we sell. Since I don't know if/when that will be, nor the real estate market will be at that time, any numbers would just be speculation on my part.
So I only include savings/investments.  Specifically 401K, IRA, index fund, company stock, and 1 individual stock plus savings account.

Hello,
I found MMM November of last year and have been tracking my net worth and savings rate since that time.  Seems there is some variance on whether to use net worth or investments, but I am focusing on getting my investments up to achieve the power of compounding growth.  Savings rate has been around 45% this year.  I have quite a bit of equity built up, net worth includes home at a fixed price net of commission - no vehicles or personal property and includes cash emergency fund.  Investments are 401k, IRAs, 529 plans, and HSA invested index funds.

Investments:
Nov 16: 70,759
Dec 16: 76,479
Jan 17: 85,166
Feb 17: 92,088
Mar 17: 97,278
Apr 17: 99,905
May 17: 104,750

Net Worth:
Nov 16: 209,474
Dec 16: 216,673
Jan 17: 221,289
Feb 17: 228,432
Mar 17: 231,849
Apr 17: 237,479
May 17: 243,016

Where are you guys all getting your numbers from?  Just your Vanguard or other Retirement accounts?  I'm new to this!  What all are you including in your numbers?  Real estate equity or just strictly accounts?

For Nick_Miller; Special mid-month update.

Oct/16 77000
Nov/16 82700
Dec/16 93200
Jan/16  103,720
Feb/16 119,800
Mar/16 127,400
Apr/16 140,376
May/16 148,000

Can't wait for the sale of my home, in order to free over 40k of equity to put into investments.

After living in the place for 3 years, it has lost 15k in value. Sigh.

For us mid-monthers!
5/01/2017:  $198,456
5/15/2017:  $200,404 - was able to put an extra $250 in that was leftover from last month's household budget!! Plus 401k plus a little market gain gets us started!!
5/31/2017:  $207,044 - Market wasn't particularly helpful lately, but "Cheap-Ass May Throw Down the Gauntlet" put an extra $400 or so into the kitty.
6/15/2017: $213,996 - Market up a little before the latest Trump drama, car in the shop and DW dentist visit meant no additional $ in beyond the retirement/regular addition, but CC churning just got DW and I free plane tix to a friend's destination wedding!

I think the motivation to reach $250k will already be there for me, but hey this will keep me accountable.

We are at just under $99k currently, and the next chunk I pay off on a credit card in the next few weeks will push us over the $100k mark, so I will be back then :-)

So I'm an idiot.

In my NW calculations, I totally forgot to add in the emergency fund cash I have saved in the bank, which was another $1500.

June 2017 - $100,579

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
