Coming over from the $10k-$100k thread.

2013
July    $14,992
2016
Dec  $100,665

It took me and my wife over 3 years to go from $10k-$100k...excited to be working toward $250k now.

1.1.2017: $109,099
2.1.2017: $112,920
3.1.2017: $113,923

My wife just started working full-time again, and with another promotion in sight, we should really be able to crank up the savings rate in 2017 & 2018.

Projected date for $250k in net worth: September 2018

Saw this thread and thought it could be my accountability booster and keep me on track. This is all from an 11 year enlisted military member with $20K in debt when I joined (humblebrag). Got married in 2014 so investing slowed down a good bit and slowly getting back to where I want to be. It's been a crazy, life-changing journey and best of luck to everyone in the future!

July 2014 - $96,458
July 2015 - $130,095
July 2016 - $138,021
Today -      $142,623

Projected graduation date: ??? Not sure the best way to calculate this.

@turning_hapanese

Take the invested stash + monthly contributions X return values (anywhere between 4-10%) and then continue until your stash hits 250,000 in an excel sheet. (if you are counting other things, like mortgage repayment, just add the payments and separate it from the multiplication of the investment returns.

Update for me: 127,000. Hoping to double within 3 years!

March 2016 $101,768.81
April 2016   $106,876.35

Jan 2017     $147,729.69
Feb 2017    $150,339.59
Mar 2017  $140,835.79

The reduction is due mostly to real estate agent fees and other transaction costs with our new home purchase. Most of that is behind us now, with just one more project set for April. We should be back to $150,000-ish by May or so.

Just think about how much of your life it took to get to 100K, and then think about how much less time it is taking for you to get to 200K. Better yet, graph it for us and post!

I'll give some context to my figures.

1. I own my house which is worth say 1.3 million.
2. I have retirement funds which can't be accessed until I'm 60 of about $300k.
3. It's all in Aussie Dollars.
4. We save about 70% of our income.
5. I'm 43 & my wife is 40.
6. I think once I get to $400k outside of super I could retire. I might go to $500k but it's not something that I think is really critical. Basically we are really really close.
7. If I could convince the wife to sell the crazily expensive house and relocate we could retire now.

I'm only tracking my outside retirement funds in this thread beacuse those figures are the key ones for me to retire.

It's a drag waiting for the money to build up to retire. It's freaken painful. I am looking to retire in 2020 at this point but even that amount of time sucks at the moment. I've basically given up caring about work.

Retirement only, does not include real estate or emergency savings. :

January 2015: $98,619

January 2016: $101,235
December 2016: $140,779 (total NW $269,089)

January 2017: $151,307 (total NW $276,052)
February 2017: $156,620 (total NW $285,663)
March 2017: $161,585 (total NW $302,055) received a modest bonus in March and my condo value apparently went up around $10k.

I know the total NW is over $250k but I'm focused on retirement only for this challenge. A good chunk of the NW is real estate equity.

Jan-17   123,913
Feb-17   132,459 (6.9% increase)
Mar-17   138,942 (4.9% increase)

About what I expected. Spent a little more than anticipated, but managed to keep my expenses close to my budget. This month I'm funding my 457(b) for the first time, so that helps with my my net increase. Market saw no huge gains, but did mange to sock away another $5,000 into my brokerage account, and had some dividends.

And I was finally able to calculate my savings rate. With my two retirement accounts plus my pension contribution of $792/month, my savings rate is 71%. I'm not counting my employer contribution.

Goal going forward is to stick to budget.

All in all, not a bad month.

Finally made it into this thread! I'm amazed at how much some of you guys are able to put away each month. Is it high income, dual income, market return. Either way I'm jealous. Well here is my starting point, with no home equity.

8/8/16: $101,750

I may have skipped a few months of posting, but It's time to get back on track.

2/24/17: $110,773

3/31/17: $115,783

I had found at one point a very thorough excel sheet for calculating withholding.  Actually, now that I think about it, my brains a bit foggy and either I wrote one to autocalculate based on a W4 and the sheet was for payroll taxes, or my original statement is correct.  I have not had to do this for dual income though, which may make it more difficult.

Despite getting our tax return this month, we had a very small gain of 2-3% in investments. Currently hoarding cash in anticipation of a relocation!

So in the last 3 years we have completely turned around our financial situation.  We've paid off all car loans (and intend never to have another one), paid off all Parent Plus loans for the kids (now graduated, grown, gone and gainfully employed), sold our house (Oct 2016), paid off the LOC and cc debts, moved, bought a new house (Nov 2016) at ~$40k less than the old one.

We couldn't save a dime until recently.  Well, actually, my wife faithfully contributed to her 401k throughout the years and it accounted for almost 2/3 of our NW at the beginning of the year.  We also started 2017 with small amounts in IRAs and her HSA.  Actual positive cash position is a brand-new concept for us.

Now we're saving like bandits.  Most of it goes into index funds but I also have some non-Mustachian money in a single stock that has done well and I expect to continue to do well with a huge upside potential.  It's a fairly big bet, about 15% of our NW, but hey.  I'll take the facepunches on this one.

So our numbers (includes home equity of roughly $26k):

2017
Jan 1:  $170,881
Feb 1:  $183,768
Mar 1:  $197,020
Apr 1:  $207,614

I sure hope this trend continues.

Yes you are! Awesome!

Congrats all on their progress!

I had to pay the dentist a couple of visits and pay for boarding for my dog during a business trip this month, which slowed things down a bit. Still, up 2.86% or $4,377.30 in March to $157,554.50.

Feb 1st - 167,752
March 1st - 177,448
April 1st - 183,917

Happy to see so much growth considering I spent most of March in New Zealand doing expensive adventure type things like ice climbing, hang gliding, and scuba diving.  I'm not sure if I had been including my new HSA before since I have to now manually update it in Personal Capital, but that probably bumped up the number by a bit over $1k.  Also received a minor bonus.  Have to buy some expensive things this month such as plane tickets, rental car, hotel, and gifts for two out of state weddings happening over memorial day weekend, plus lift tickets for the 2017-2018 ski season, but that's hopefully it for weddings this year.  At this rate, it looks like I'll definitely be able to get to 200k by the end of the year if the market holds up, which is pretty exciting.

We are now around 215'000 CHF networth. We plan to get to 250'000 at the latest at the end of the year. As we have now covered most of the big expenses for the house it should be relatively easy if nothing unexpected happens.

Mine will be slow since my 401K does not allow to select stocks or commodities like gold.  It's either bonds or mutual funds, or combination.

Starting at $100K.

Erm... What's wrong with mutual funds? I assume those invest in stocks...

Quarter    "Liquid"       Liquid + R.E.
Q3 2016:  $112,200     $165,800
Q4 2016:  $124,300     $178,500
Q1 2017:  $148,300     $203,300

Cruising along... Looks like I still have five quarters left in this race... ouch! 'course, eventually my wife might finish school and get a job, that would speed things up. I found some savings bonds that I was not previously including. I also found and rolled over an ancient 403b from back in my internship days. I simplified the spreadsheet, so it no longer tracks % cash/bonds.

Our income was quite ridiculous last month thanks to yearly profit sharing, bonus, tax refund (boo interest free loan :/), and sidehustle money.  We were able to max both our rIRAs in March, so we opened a regular old Vangaurd taxable account and will be shoveling all our extra dough in there until next year.

Mar. 1 2017  - 102,500

401K deposits finally came through, with missed gains added back in, which is nice.  Had my 1Q paycheck for side business paid as well.  Lots of gains on the market.

I'm expecting to dip down closer to 100,000 this or next month as home renovations continue to escalate.  :/

It is fun to finally start getting a body of data for this spreadsheet though!

::runs in late with a travel mug of tea::

OMG I finally get to post in this thread!

16K cash (15K emergency fund, 1K day-to-day cash)
85K invested (11K in my IRA, 73K in my 403b)

The next goal is 100K invested. Barring a massive life upheaval (currently very possible, for reasons that don't bear exploration at this juncture), I should be able to tick that off by the end of this calendar year without strain.

Still on track but there is is major disturbance in the force. We are (somewhat) unexpectedly selling our house and moving into a more expensive one. It's amazing how much value disappears between real estate commissions, closing costs, home inspections, appraisals, repairs, and everything else.

YES.

We recently sold our old house, bought a new house and moved.  The transaction costs are insane.  The real estate industry is set up to suck the maximum amount of money out of the buyers and the sellers.

4.1.2017: $129,129

Good progress this past month with both of us working again. Projecting $175,000 by my wife's 29th birthday in September.

03/2017 - $130,500
04/2017 - $133,780 (+3280 - Saved $2500, Market Gains $780)

Saved less than I wanted thanks to car trouble. Nothing major - I expect this car to last at least 3 more years and save me lots of money. Market gave decent returns. Next month I expect to save more - about ~$3500.

New to the 'group'. First, thank you for the motivation; it's threads like this that keep my wife and I on the right path.

In short, my wife and I have come a long way the past few years. We are both nurses, two kids, married young at 20 (classic high school sweetheart kind of story). We were the typical anti-Mustachian, spending ALL our earned income and not saving anything for retirement. It wasn't until April 2015 when things changed. The new company I work for (2nd job working from home) offered 100% match up to 6% into the 401K and 1000 annual company contribution to my HSA. I started at 6% 401K contribution and gradually increased that up to the 18K max within a year's time. My wife eventually adopted the same 'FIRE' mindset and started contributing to her 401K. Starting this year, we'll both max out our 401Ks, ROTHs via backdoor and my HSA, as well as contribute 500 to each kids' 529.

Now, we are not 100% Mustachian. We do spend quite a bit more than we should, but we are content with our current savings/spending rate. At the beginning of our nursing careers, working at a hospital in Arizona, many of the older patient's we took care of preached that saving a lot is important, but enjoy some while we're young and able.

Investable amount....

4/5/17 - 101,800

Cheers,

Richard
