New to the forum. Long time lurker, I came across this discussion and figured it was right up my alley so I registered.

EDIT: I was able to find my NW data in Mint. Here is last years progress:

Jan-16   23,769
Feb-16   37,777
Mar-16   36,324
Apr-16   36,503
May-16   38,348
Jun-16   45,604
Jul-16   43,749
Aug-16   46,696
Sep-16   47,970
Oct-16   92,135
Nov-16   120,118
Dec-16   119,694
Jan-17   123,913

My goal is to get to 200K by the end of the year.

Cheers!

Jan 2015 - $94,000
Feb 2015 - $ 97,000
Mar 2015 - $106,000
Apr 2015 - $108,000
May 2015 - $114,000
June 2015 - $ 117,000
...
April 2016 - $145,000
January 2017: 190,000

I probably will be there in a year, less if I continue saving in the aggressive mode that I'm in these last few months.

Slow and Steady

Jan-15    $103,510
Feb-15    $104,580
Mar-15    $113,223
Apr-15    $118,072
May-15    $122,214
Jun-15    $124,279
Jul-15    $126,969

Guessing that I'll hit it March 2018.

Aug-15    $121,517
Sep-15    $119,105
Oct-15    $130,210

Nov-15   $139,276
Dec-15   $142,945
Jan-16   $142,996
Feb-16   $145,610
Mar-16   $161,315
Apr-16   $161,141
May-16   $181,902

New estimate is Dec 2017 (rather than March 2018)

Jun-16    $185,289
Jul-16     $182,691
Aug-16   $196,373
Sep-16    $207,180

Recent gains are mostly real estate investment that wont be income producing for 3-6 months, so I don't expect this rate of growth to continue.  Estimate on 250k timeline is still ~late 2017.

Oct-16   $208,696.97
Nov-16   $215,053.79
Dec-16   $224,049.49
Jan-17   $230,337.25
Feb-17   $247,801.30
Feb-17   $251,409.30    (Inc. estimated tax return)

Tax return should be deposited on Wednesday - which will bump me over the 250k edge!

It's interesting looking back how far my original estimate was off.  Took ~22 months from my first post in July 2015 rather than the 34 months I had projected.  The two factors in the difference between the actual and projection:
1. Gains from real estate were not included in the projection.
2. The recent stock market gains were not expected.

Cool beans.

Finally made it into this thread! I'm amazed at how much some of you guys are able to put away each month. Is it high income, dual income, market return. Either way I'm jealous. Well here is my starting point, with no home equity.

8/8/16: $101,750

I may have skipped a few months of posting, but It's time to get back on track.

2/24/17: $110,773

Aug 2016      $104,410.00
Sept 2016    $106,084.00
Oct 2016       $107,559.00
Nov 2016      $103,227.00
Dec 2016      $107,460.00
Jan 2016       $111,400.00
Feb 2016       $145,239.58

Big jump this month after combining finances with my wife, including her student loans and retirement accounts. Combining finances was honestly pretty tedious - so much double-checking things we both had on autopay, changing direct deposits, etc. But it's a good chance to review our spending priorities and goals. We have a major budget review planned for this weekend now that our new joint system should be fully in place.

I have been married for nearly six months and still haven't even attempted this. It is daunting to think about. Good for you for doing it!

Moved some money around from savings to investments this month in order to max last years IRAs.
Loaned some $ to BIL in order to help him through a tough spot but the market pretty much made up for it and we saw the same NW increase as last month.

Jan-16   23,769

Mar-16   36,324
Apr-16   36,503
May-16   38,348

Aug-16   46,696
Sep-16   47,970
Oct-16   92,135
Nov-16   120,118
Dec-16   119,694
Jan-17   123,913
Feb-17   132,459 (a 6.9% increase)

Funded my new 403(b) with Vanguard, and next month my contribution to my 457(b) will begin. I'll be contributing the max to both ($48,000) as well as my ROTH IRA. I'm very lucky to be able to have both type of accounts, as my school district gives us the option of either/both types of account. I may also be able to sock away another 3K per year into my 403(b) since I have been at my job over 15 years. All told, I'll be saving 66% of my gross pay. I'm renting and live a mile from work, so that helps. Looking back over the year, I can see there were months where I did not have my spending under control. This month I think I finally go it figured out.

Cheers!

Retirement only, does not include real estate or emergency savings. :

January 2015: $98,619

January 2016: $101,235
December 2016: $140,779 (total NW $269,089)

January 2017: $151,307 (total NW $276,052)
February 2017: $156,620 (total NW $285,663)

I know the total NW is over $250k but I'm focused on retirement only for this challenge. A good chunk of the NW is real estate equity.

Nice market gains making up half our increase and our state tax return came in.  The federal one comes in tomorrow, just in time to kick March off to a great start.  My new job has been going well, and my 401k contributions have started up.  After selling the house we've been a little flush with non retirement money which has really helped with maxing out our tax returns.  We effectively had a negative tax due to subsidies for health care while we were on ACA last year.  Our goal this year is to max out all retirement accounts and HSA, which will be easy with having plenty of proceeds from the house still, though our income may just barely squeak by without dipping into that.

Up to 112k. Here's everything from when I started tracking this, back to the end of February 2016 (including investments, cash, home equity, debt, and mortgage):

Feb 29: $79,516.82
March 31: $83,734.70
April 30: $87,137.39
May 31: $89,555.65
June 30: $93,641.14
July 31: $101,134.66
Aug 31: $104,093.75
Sept 30: $105,485.80
Oct 31: $109,245.15
Nov 30: $107,889.49
Dec 31: $112,056.39

Discovered MMM April or May. $32k gain in less than a year! It would be cool to go up $50k in 2017, but it will be a challenge with my first baby coming in April.

Jan 31 2017: $118,069.75

Feb 28 2017: $122,510.00

Jan 1, 2017   - 103,000
Feb. 1, 2017 - 106,500
Mar. 1 2017  - 102,500

Went down 4 grand due to putting earnest money down on a new, overpriced, HCOL house.  Option period ends Monday, so we'll see if the payment comes back or I am buying my noose. :)

Very scary to take on the mortgage, but my FIRE plans include sitting on my back porch drinking coffee and not doing much, and this house is perfect for that end result, and also the in-between years for my kid's education.

Other news is that my 401K distributions for all of 2017 still haven't been deposited.  We switched plans Jan. 1, so I'm not begrudging the delay too much, except for the 5% gains I would have seen in 2 months!  Whenever those get deposited I'll be back up $3000.

February: Up $10,405.35 to $164,576.96. Best month yet!

Very nice!!

I had a killer month as well, up $11,173.23 or 7.87% to $153,177.46. Along with the market, helped by:
  • Tax return
  • Late Christmas gift
  • Elective employer contribution to 401(k)

September 1, 2016 -   $104,622.34   +$6,155
October 1, 2016 -        $109,535.81   +$4,913
November 1, 2016 -    $113,963.46   +$4,427
December 1, 2016 -    $119,134.90   +$5,171
January 1, 2017 -        $125,515.94   +$6,381
February 1, 2017 -      $128,723.53   +$3,207
March 1, 2017 -           $133,798.59   +$5,075

Moving along nicely. Lowered my emergency fund and cash position to pay off debt the last two months, which I'm happy to report are all paid back (other than mortgage). Next goal is to fill up all my non-taxable accounts!  Will also get a good bump in the next month or two from a tax return of a few thousand dollars.

Joining the fun!  We were already at $100k when I first started tracking

Nov. 15: $103,463
Dec. 15: $109,862
Jan. 16: $114,293
Feb. 16: $124,766
Mar. 16: $136,142
Apr. 16: $140,522
May 16: $144,147
Jun. 16: $152,640
Jul. 16: $161,645
Aug. 16: $168,482
Sep. 16: $173,114
Oct. 16: $179,250
Nov. 16: $182,855
Dec. 16: $192,675 (woohoo bonus time!)
Jan. 17: $198,285
Feb. 17: $205,469

Was super excited yesterday to cross the $200k mark, took me about 16 months to get that $100k growth, hoping to hit $250k in around another six, but part of that may require the markets to cooperate.

Including IRAs, 401(k), HSAs, and Investment Account.
Jan 1, 2016 - $81,396
Oct 1, 2016 - $122,943
Jan 1, 2017 - $128,893
Mar 1, 2017 - $151,772 -  Fully funded IRA for 2017 and decided (finally) to open Investment Account in mid-January.

Daycare starts this month, so I am sure my rate of investing will go down dramatically. Here is to five years of investing in the little one and not our retirement. Oh, what I could do with $15K per year.

Just the FIRE stash
-----------------------
Dec 2016 - $101,671
Jan 2017 - $105,278   (+3,607)
Feb 2017 - $111,155   (+5,877)
Mar 2017 - $116,248   (+5,093)

About $2k in 401k and Roth IRA contributions, the rest is all market. Our big restoration project was finally completed this week so I should be able to focus on maxing out my Roth next.

End of Nov update: 110K thanks to quarterly divys and $300 in cash saved.  Slow and steady...

Been MIA on the challenge for awhile so checking in as of end of Feb...   112K for this challenge...  Building the after tax stache account while saving for a roof replacement at the same time sucks, but still growing nonetheless.

I should get in on this and get myself more motivation to race.

Right now I'm at net worth of $130,500. I'm seeing lots of people regularly adding nearly 10k a month. That impresses me - I'll be attempting a rate of more like 2500 a month. But I am still getting used to this and there are plentiful opportunities to save money.

So for now:

03/2017 - $130,500

Ditto.  Sort of try to soothe myself by noting that people marking their real estate to market and running 4 or 5 to 1 leverage are not superb comps for me.  I think there are at least a few of those in the thread.

A decent amount of people here are married professionals as well with incomes in the 150k+ range and legitimately HAVE 10k left over (or close + market returns)

Yep - they don't spend much time in the 100-250k thread, though.
True, I'm sitting at 409 myself now. Though, 100 to 250 still took 2ish YEARS even with that kind of income. Though, we moved, got married (spendy wedding) and generally got life setup so we probably doubled our time in this thread 'zone' (I don't remember if I was posting here back then...)

Does not include real estate.

5/3/16 - $100,825
6/3/16 - $104,923
7/6/16 - $106,848
8/3/16 - $116,321
9/5/16 = $127,594
10/4/16 = $134,384
11/1/16 = $136,144
12/6/16 = $146,890

1/2/17 = $156,358
2/3/17 = $167,434

3/3/17 = $181,696

I actually have ~$220k investments, $10k cash and ~$50k low interest debt. So my number seems to grow fast because my investments are bigger than my net worth. I also have an unusual year/life and things will slow down come summer.
