I have been wanting to post here for months. It seemed my portfolio just sat at 240k or so for weeks. Today, finally made it over that 250k hump. Next stop 500k (hopefully in 3 years).

Aug 2016      $104,410.00
Sept 2016    $106,084.00
Oct 2016       $107,559.00
Nov 2016      $103,227.00
Dec 2016      $107,460.00
Jan 2016       $111,400.00

Three paycheck month in January. Plus I got married this month (about $2k of expenses) and I'll need to update our net worth calculations soon to include my wife's assets/liabilities. Hoping to buy a house in the next few months so the data may look a bit noisier than usual, but that's okay!

Retirement only, does not include real estate or cash savings. :

January 2015: $98,619

January 2016: $101,235
December 2016: $140,779 (total NW $269,089)

January 2017: $151,307 (total NW $276,052)

I know the total NW is over $250k but I'm focused on retirement only for this challenge.

Good luck.

Wow, almost didn't lose net worth this month, so close.  Started working again after 10 months, with the last month and a half being in pure bliss on a tropical island.  Should start to see solid gains now with our monthly expenses down to roughly $1800.  After we file our taxes and receive our return it should be pretty amazing.

Plan this year is to set our 401k contributions to max until we hit the max contribution while living off savings then continue to sock away as much as possible.  Come year end we'll decide how much to move to HSA, then Trad IRA vs Roth IRA.  With enough money from the sale of the house now in non-tax advantaged accounts it feels like we are much more flexible as to what strategy we can pull off.

It's sort of funny to see people complaining on FB about how the tax man is taking more money from them because they made more money.  No, it's because you made more and then spent it all without thinking of the ramifications.

Up to 112k. Here's everything from when I started tracking this, back to the end of February 2016 (including investments, cash, home equity, debt, and mortgage):

Feb 29: $79,516.82
March 31: $83,734.70
April 30: $87,137.39
May 31: $89,555.65
June 30: $93,641.14
July 31: $101,134.66
Aug 31: $104,093.75
Sept 30: $105,485.80
Oct 31: $109,245.15
Nov 30: $107,889.49
Dec 31: $112,056.39

Discovered MMM April or May. $32k gain in less than a year! It would be cool to go up $50k in 2017, but it will be a challenge with my first baby coming in April.

Jan 31 2017: $118,069.75

Hello All!
I want to join in on the race!  I updated the spreadsheet with my historical data.
Current NW: $185,501 (including RE).
NW w/o RE: $122,896.

Hubs was unemployed for most of last year but now that we are back to DINK status I'm excited to ramp up savings and we are gonna try to get to 300K by EOY!

Increase does not include my monthly max 401k contributions for January, since we're rolling into a new plan this week.
Increased my Taxable Vanguard deposit from 500 to 750 a month.

A little update

In January i hesitated to invest because of a possible financial Trump Turmoil at the stock markets, but now i'm back in business. I use short running bonus certificates (1 to 2 months) on the german DAX.
No liabilities + a paid Appartment (approx. 300,000€)

Invested Assets+ Cash Account:

1/1/2016 Jan:    64,400€

1/1/2017 Jan:  104,000€
2/1/2017 Feb:  105,000€

Planned Graduation Date 250k: Sept 2021

Happy Investing

Just the FIRE stash
-----------------------
Dec 2016 - $101,671
Jan 2017 - $105,278   (+3,607)
Feb 2017 - $111,155   (+5,877)

$2k into taxable to meet a fund minimum for investing and get that doing something, standard $1,500 into the 401k. Cash flow is settling now that our big restoration project is finishing up so the next priority is this year's Roth contribution.

Just came across this thread, and sounds like the perfect one to join since that's around where I'm at.

Currently my stash is at 167,752.  I have a trip coming up in a month to Melbourne and New Zealand, so that'll probably effect the stash a bit (hello $400 ice climbing on a glacier once in a lifetime experience plus being MOH in my friend's wedding and all that that entails, though trying to balance it out by mostly camping throughout the NZ part of the trip and the hotel in Melbourne is covered from last years travel credit from Chase Sapphire Reserve), but hopefully I'm still able to save a significant amount.  Figured either way, this would be a great place to push myself and keep me accountable.

Cakie, we're in the same starting place!  Join the spreadsheet and we'll race.  Our firehoses of cash may be different, but friendly competition and accountability makes things more fun.

Plus, I'm finding that this Race is extremely helpful in concentrating on the next rung instead of the end goal.  Breaking up a 13 year FIRE journey into 2-3 year goals is a lot more tangible.

Newbie here from New Zealand!
Past year's progress:

01/01/16   : 70127
01/02/16   : 71010
01/03/16   : 73416
01/04/16   : 74102
01/05/16   : 77079
01/06/16   : 79954
01/07/16   : 80915
01/08/16   : 84609
01/09/16   : 87883
01/10/16   : 90308
01/11/16   : 92726
01/12/16   : 95496
01/01/17   : 97661

01/02/17: 101,101 YES!

Currently about 50/50 home equity / investments split.  Home equity included at conservative guess (basically ignores last year's 20% increase property values in my city, no plans to sell), our mortgages interest rates range from 4-6% - so we make extra payments on that, as well as invest. Plan on reaching the 250k mark in 4 years, mortgage free in 7, able to comfortably semi-retire/go for extended travel/do volunteer work in 10 years (Will be 45 years old then).

Hi all,

I had been hanging out in the Race to $100K before I added my home equity, which got a huge bump in value as a few homes sold around me for really good prices. Here's to the race to $250K!

With Home Equity:
Jan 2017 - $152,454.47
Feb 2017 - $190,691.99

Equity: $74,388

I am in. We hit 100K in June 2015 and just hit 200K today so it took roughly 19 months. Should hit 250 by end of this year / early next.

Are a lot of people doing this as a couple?  I'm amazed by how much money people are saving each month.  Seems like people are regularly adding over 5k a month.

We are a family of 3 with one parent working full time. Having a high-income and low expenses helps a lot. The MMM community has many high earners that definitely help skew the savings rates and amounts higher. Admittedly, I used to be quite envious of other people's income and saving rates but that doesn't do any good. Track your own progress and say good for those that are also doing well too.

Family of 3, 1x high income earner. My monthly numbers do shoot up a bit, but it's also a reflection of savings + debt reduction which gets obscured away by just posting the net of everything.

My Jan -> Feb 2017 numbers are an unfortunate oddity due to a high bonus/commission payment, which will most likely cause the remainder of my yearly numbers to remain relatively flat. I'm taking all the tax advantaged savings I can and once I fill those pots of money up, I attack debt; which I'm hoping I can cut in 1/2 this year.

If it makes you feel more normal, I'm only going up 2-3k month. (I include my mortgage principal repayment). I just don't put my numbers up, as I wait for the yearly, rather then monthly (since there isn't a huge change monthly... it would make it seem even longer)

I am recently married but haven't included his numbers yet. Together we gross about 115k.  Between savings and mortgage principle payment, I add between 2500-3000 per month to my net worth. Lately the market has been helping a lot too.

Thanks for the info, everyone.  Also, really impressive how much everyone's putting away.  My goal is to add about 2.2k+ a month, not including any income from investments.  I should be getting a raise this year (hopefully sooner rather than later, obviously) with a promotion, so then it'll be nice to at least bump that up a bit more.  Also crossing fingers and toes for a bonus, which I'm assuming I'll hear about by the end of the month.

Hello, I posted here a long time ago but then I realized my spreadsheet was not pulling my liabilities correctly. :D I was very impressed with myself.

No such mistakes going forward. With all the calculations done right, I just broke 100k NW last month.

Jan 2016 - $76,305.60
Feb 2016 - $77,709.92
Mar 2016 - $81,665.18
Apr 2016 - $83,367.03
May 2016 - $85,264.84
Jun 2016 - $90,386.10
Jul 2016 - $93,985.40
Aug 2016 -  $76,869.18 - New car... I know I know.
Sep 2016 -  $82,323.51
Oct 2016 - $84,265.82
Nov 2016 -  $89,583.71
Dec 2016 - $95,959.42
Jan 2017 - $100,636.31

If I can keep up my projections, assuming no kids/job loss/inheritance/major promotions, my goal is to graduate from this thread by December 2019. I remember back in the day when I first started lurking around here in 2014 people who could save 50k/year seemed nuts. Keep up the good work everyone, the math behind early retirement is truly shockingly simple!

Realize, though, that everyone here is including income from investments.  Which means that if you are in the 100K club, you're going to average almost $600 more a month in interest over the course of a year.  So you're almost at $3000 a month too.

I'm in.  Let's get it!

Using marketable securities investments:

12/15 ~    $81,000
12/16 ~  $109,000
01/17 ~  $116,000

Hey, people who include home or other real estate equity, do you just use like a zestimate or tax value and reduce for transaction costs or how do you value your RE?  I'm thinking I might start tracking dual figures just for FI/FU money purposes.
