Holy toledo. THAT is some kinda dedication. Live in your car and work two jobs. Yowza.

If I don't retire I'm going to die trying.

The second job...
...
I'm actually living out of my SUV now to get my expenses under 1k...

Just have to add my even more mad respect for @J.P. MoreGains...living in the SUV.  FWIW - when your stash hits $300k and your expenses are at ~$1,000 per month in your current living choice you have FIRE'd. You will literally be there in no time.

Yeah I could be "dirtbag FIRE" and go become a rock climber full time.

This month I'll likely be just short of 250k but if the market keeps going strong and I keep my current pace I think I could get to 300k in about 6 months or so.

My intention is to go beyond that of course. I kind of feel like 500k is the next milestone and a chance to reassess and take a sabbatical possibly.

I kind of feel like paid off house in cheap country + 20k a year is pretty good for a guy like me so maybe I'm close to being done once I get there. But... if I have great momentum I also like the idea of going beyond that. That still seems very lean.

So in the back of my mind I kind of think the mil mark is where it's at but who knows.

I enjoy reading about the lifestyle options some of you are pursuing and the big savings gains because of it. Before my current relationship I had some very frugal ways of living but my SO is not one for budgeting so we have very different expenditure levels than I would on my own..but he also owns a house which has quadrupled in value (and which I am part-owner of now) so I can’t complain about his cheese consumption too much. Good work though to those of you making some awesome decisions for your future self!

I agree...there are different routes.  The longer I work, the more I am on the severely downsize (no debt) wave.  At 53, I am finally realizing that life indeed is too short.  I will OMY my way to at least to 55, but know I could drastically downsize today and FIRE or barista FIRE.  Still love J.P. MoreGains for being out there doing it.

I do everything pen and paper... may need to go to a spreadsheet soon. I'm hoping I don't have any errors since I started calculating things.

I looked at my total gains since I started and this year. This year I have $32,469.39 in gains which is like a third job.

I don't know enough to know if this is normal for my portfolio size given the market over the past year. It seems so since things have been so strong.

This month market must have been a little down from last month when i checked given that I'm up a little less than I saved. Still 7k up which is great.

Nearing 250k and also 100k up for this calendar year. Ready for a great 2025.

@lcmac32 Great you are already in a position to FIRE or Barista FIRE! At 45 I know I can give my best effort now and get to that position fairly soon and then ease up some. Life is too short... I want enough money to have some freedom and go do some incredible things.

Gains

Calculating this just by subtracting how much I'm up by how much I saved.

Gains this year: $32,469.39
Gains since 9/6/23: $47,001.95

This is incredible for me. It's like the gains themselves are a third job. So nice when the market is going up! Hoping I don't have errors but this is the best estimate I can make given my situation.

Is this more or less in the expected ballpark range for market performance and my portfolio size?

I have accepted an offer on my old home, with a closing date in early December. My net worth held steady as there have been a few cost associated with the closing and refinancing of my current home. I expect to be able to invest 90-100k of the proceeds from the sale of my house which will solidly put me in the next thread. November will be my last month here, as long as everything goes smoothly. Glad to see everyone else making steady forward progress!

It's been a dog's age since I posted here! I'm sad to see I didn't get ahead that far in the last 3 years... current NW is 213,056. That's +60k in 3 years, whereas in 2021 I did +30k in one year.

Anyway, quick recap of the last few years:

Well, I've hit 250k ($250,244.24) for now so that is good news! I may dip down below this if markets go down but at least for now I can say I've hit it.

I got paid 2,897.64 today plus 2,469.63 in gains over the past week. So that did the trick.

Gonna start posting in the next forum. Really got the goal of 500k on my mind. Then maybe a sabbatical or something.

It really is wild how big the swings can be once you start hitting critical mass. There's that saying about when you get to 100k you can take some of the gas off, but I've REALLY noticed it since getting to 150k. Can't believe I have less than 100k to finish this race.

I am, evidently, stupider than this forum. I've tried all kinds of ways to find a "show me my posts in this thread" button. I'm simply not slogging backwards through 88 pages to find my last post, because I haven't been reporting in for a while after Mint died and went away. I'm calculating all this manually now.

So, I'm just gonna pick up here.

$242,890 (+$21,066 since 13-Oct)

I expect to graduate to the $250k-$500k thread in very early 2025.

I graduated the race to 100k in May and then kind of stopped tracking for a while due to professional exams in the summer and losing motivation a bit after reaching this milestone and feeling like the next one is still so far away. I'm sure I dipped below 100k in the summer a few times, but due to the recent bullrun since the US elections I'm now quite a bit north of the 100k starting line for this race.

Roughly 42 % of my net worth is now in crypto, despite not investing any more since early 2021. Back then I decided I would just hold no matter what happens as long as I'm still in the accumulation phase. Due to this high crypto exposure it is entirely likely that I'll still temporarily dip below 100k at some point. New investments are all going into ETFs. Let's see how long this race takes, hopefully less than the last one.

I am not sure about how long I will stay above 250.000€... for this year I will stick around.

The savings rate is only 14.4%. Bought a kitchen. Moving in two weeks.

November 2023 - $90,530
December 2023 - $97,000
January 2024 - $99,131
February 2024 - $102,401

September 2024 - $130,907
October 2024 - $130,553

That just feels kinda gross since I'm sure the huge swing is related to Trump being elected.

Increasing by $15k in about two months is absolutely bonkers to me! Market upswing + stronger USD really helped me push across the $190k mark. I actually feel like I am starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel... maybe a stretch goal for me will to hit $250k by next Dec, if the markets remain good!
