November-$13,466$26,407$72,781----
December$9,518-$30,697$73,730----

I managed to just hang in here with the market swings. NW went up almost 3K despite investments going down 700. Now that I've managed to stay in here two months running, I don't want to leave!

Some of this can be explained by a large-ish purchase that I'd been saving for (but came in way under budget for).  But mostly just the market going down.  It's somewhat disheartening, but I know that this is the time when I'm really building wealth.

For context: I'm 33 in a HCOL city. I'm married, but these are my own numbers since we keep our finances separate. Includes cash, retirement, and credit cards, which are used for normal expenses and paid off in full every month.

3/18: $48,533.91 (found MMM and started tracking)
3/19: $83,762.93 (1 year tracking)
8/19: $101,572.33 (graduated to the 100-250k thread)
3/20: $118,287.76 (2 years tracking)
3/21: $206,593.43 (3 years tracking)
11/21: $254,300.88 (graduated to the 250-500k thread)
12/21: $258,452.24 (+$4,151.36, +1.63%)
1/22: $266,408.54 (+$7,956.30, +3.08%)
2/22: $249,470.14 (-$16,938.40, -6.36%)
3/22: $251,915.95 (+$2,445.81, +0.98%)
4/22: $258,017.81 (+$6,101.86, +2.42%)
5/22: $241,209.30 (-$16,808.51, -6.51%)
6/22: $241,739.39 (+$530.09, +0.22%)
7/22: $225,680.23 (-$16,059.16, -6.64%)
8/22: $246,154.19 (+$20,473.96, +9.07%)
9/22: $240,189.31 (+$5,964.88, -2.42%)

The market giveth, the market taketh away. Annoyingly, one of the funds in my retirement account just got switched over to a new one, so I can't easily track my increasing number of shares to make myself feel better. :P

Oh man, I’ve been dealing with the same thing, basically Jan 1st this year I switch funds in our main retirement accounts and they’ve both reset the “book value” to the entire amount from the switch rather than what we’ve actually put it, so basically at the very Top of the market, DW has been bothered by it a lot saying we made a bad choice switching funds lol, but it’s just the market and the result of not being able to track before the switch

I've been bouncing around the same number for the past 6 months and just can't seem to make it over 250k. I started a new job which includes a pay increase and much better benefits (8% match! Less expensive health insurance!) so I'm hoping to see some upward movement.

I was close to 210k (€) in April, now at 172k (beginning of September). As other said the market is eating my monthly deposits but hey, I keep on buying.
Let's get back to over 200k 💪🏻

5/31/2020          - $   72,426
6/19/2020          - $   82,681
8/6/2020            - $   89,237
9/2/2020            - $   93,346
10/6/2020          - $  103,450
1/5/2021            - $  114,837
7/2/2021            - $  169,009
9/24/2021          - $  173,134
11/4/2021          - $  182,341
7/19/2022           -$  157,261
9/29/2022            $  153,313

It is disconcerting when the number goes down.  It makes me feel like I am not saving at all.  And maybe I haven't.  I saved $9,000 to my 457 b this year, but depleted cash savings accounts (for purchases of bathroom renovation, induction stove, and e bikes) by about $12,000.

When I don't look at these numbers I do feel good about continuing to buy into the index fund as the price goes down.

Well just like that we are back below the 200K mark.  Just going to keep staying the course as at some point the markets will get back into a growth mode so might as well buy some discounted shares.

For context: I'm 33 in a HCOL city. I'm married, but these are my own numbers since we keep our finances separate. Includes cash, retirement, and credit cards, which are used for normal expenses and paid off in full every month.

3/18: $48,533.91 (found MMM and started tracking)
3/19: $83,762.93 (1 year tracking)
8/19: $101,572.33 (graduated to the 100-250k thread)
3/20: $118,287.76 (2 years tracking)
3/21: $206,593.43 (3 years tracking)
11/21: $254,300.88 (graduated to the 250-500k thread)
12/21: $258,452.24 (+$4,151.36, +1.63%)
1/22: $266,408.54 (+$7,956.30, +3.08%)
2/22: $249,470.14 (-$16,938.40, -6.36%)
3/22: $251,915.95 (+$2,445.81, +0.98%)
4/22: $258,017.81 (+$6,101.86, +2.42%)
5/22: $241,209.30 (-$16,808.51, -6.51%)
6/22: $241,739.39 (+$530.09, +0.22%)
7/22: $225,680.23 (-$16,059.16, -6.64%)
8/22: $246,154.19 (+$20,473.96, +9.07%)
9/22: $240,189.31 (+$5,964.88, -2.42%)
10/22: $221,181.52 (-$19,007.79, -7.91%)

Ouch. Still can't easily track the increase in number of shares due to my retirement plan's fund switch, but I can at least see that my investment balance is still higher than my total contributions (for now).

Another reduction. Back where I was in July 2021... Would need a 5-10% years-end-rally to come out of this year with +/- 0.

I considered posting here as my assets are in the ballpark but I'm wondering whether to include home value or not.  I realize its a part of net worth, but short of paying it off completely to eliminate the monthly principal and interest portion of the payment, it doesn't really contribute to FI.  So was thinking maybe I will only post/track invested assets.  Then again, I suppose the equity could unexpectedly contribute to FI, such as selling and downsizing.

Either is fine, technically home equity is a part of your overall net worth, but if you aren’t as concerned with your technical net worth as you are your FI number, it’s more fun to track that.  I don’t own a home at the moment, so I’m only tracking retirement accounts, but I think even if I did buy I wouldn’t include it in my numbers here because I care more about reaching FI than a specific NW

I dont include my home value because i dont plan on selling anytime soon. We have loose plans to downsize and move somewhere cheaper once the kids are all grown but i dont consider it solid enough to add it to my numbers. Everyone is different though.

I'm getting close to the finish line on this one, so here's a brief recap.  I started being intentional and wiser with our money about 3 years ago at the age of 48.  Started with budgeting, reducing expenses, and paying down debt.  Now full fledged into investing/wealth building.

Net Worth:
January 2020:     $30,773
January 2021:     $82,262 (+$51,489...more progress in one year than previous 48 years)
January 2022:    $161,480 (+$79,218)
October 1 2022  $236,098 (+$74,618....considering a long distance move, furnishing a new home, and the market, I feel good about this)

I have $30k in students loans still technically figured in my net worth, although this has been tentatively(almost surely?) forgiven/cancelled.  Once this is official I will be well past the 250k milestone.  I will likely cross that line before the loans are officially cancelled.

I was close to 210k (€) in April, now at 172k (beginning of September). As other said the market is eating my monthly deposits but hey, I keep on buying.
Let's get back to over 200k 💪🏻

+4600€ invested in October and yet I'm down to a networth of 160k (-12k!!). I'm not gonna lie this feels like going backwards

Don't have an exact total, but today's rally put me around $251,000.  I'll edit this post with exact numbers when Mint updates.  Cya in the 250+ thread!

Edit:
$251,665.  Good luck everyone with completing this step and hope to see you all soon in the 250-500 thread.

Congrats!  I’d say see you in the 250-500 race, but seeing how long (short) this one took you, you might be racing to $1m by the time I get there haha

Congrates @UltraStache on destroying this thread!

It is frustrating being in around the same place as last year but I know these years happen. Just want it to jump start again so it actually feels like I am gaining.

Thanks bud.  Well, take heart in the fact that the shares you've been buying this year are some of the most valuable you will ever buy due to the substantially discounted purchase price!  If you aren't RE'ing *very* soon, this downturn is the best case scenario for accumulators!

Don't have an exact total, but today's rally put me around $251,000.  I'll edit this post with exact numbers when Mint updates.  Cya in the 250+ thread!
Congrats!  I’d say see you in the 250-500 race, but seeing how long (short) this one took you, you might be racing to $1m by the time I get there haha

You have until the end of 2024 to join me there before I move on!  You can do it!!!

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
