This was my first month since I began focusing in and tracking my NW that I've became poorer. No panic..just a unique first experience. I will be closing on a house at the end of this month. Large portion of cash, will now be in equity, and I plan to count that going forward as this is a net worth thread.

February Update (or Downdate. I'll be here all month, folks.)

6/30/19: $106,071
7/31/19: $112,395
8/31/19: $116,527
9/30/19: $124,973
10/31/19: $135,196
11/30/19: $143,839
12/31/19: $150,705
1/31/20: $163,400
2/28/20: $156,457 (-6943)

Good ol' stock market, doing what it does. It was an interesting experience to max out our IRAs the day before things started their nice journey downward.

This includes all our retirement and personal accounts for assets. It includes our credit cards, student loan, and mortgage for liabilities. It DOES NOT include our home value.

April 2018 - $52,917.42
May 2018  - $58,400.19
June 2018 - $59,686.34
July 2018  - $65,798.53
Aug 2018 - $72,231.70
Sept 2018 - $76,755.71
Oct 2018 -  $64,348.89
Nov 2018 - $70,839.76
Dec 2018 - $58,351.73
Jan 2019 - $78,256.31
Feb 2019 - $87,795.97
Mar 2019 - $67,121.29
Apr 2019 - $75,155.85
May 2019 - $63,243.68
June 2019 - $79,359.89
July 2019 - $84,352.69
August 2019 - $81,608.49
September 2019 - $87,380.98
October 2019 - $93,328.51
November 2019 - $103,159.50
December 2019 - $113,587.59
January 2020 - $105,498.94
February 2020 - $93,166.55

Ouch... That market drop really hurt.... I don't count our home value in our net worth so most of our money is in the market in our retirement accounts. This week-long free fall has really crushed us.

Since I broke the barrier into this club, am I allowed to stay? I will be back above the Mendoza line soon. Unless the market decides to crush us all.

Haven't checked in for almost a year.  250K invested by the end of 2020 is still a stretch goal, but I'm not bullish on my chances.

For context: I'm 30 in a HCOL city. I'm married, but these are my own numbers since we keep our finances separate. Includes cash, retirement, and credit cards, which are used for normal expenses and paid off in full every month.

3/18: $48,533.91 (found MMM and started tracking)
3/19: $83,762.93
8/19: $101,572.33 (graduated to this thread)
9/19: $104,368.69 (+2,796.36, +2.75%)
10/19: $107,279.56 (+2,910.87, +2.79%)
11/19: $111,107.47 (+3,827.91, +3.57%)
12/19: $112,883.69 (+1,776.22, +1.60%)
1/20: $117,811.45 (+4,927.26, +4.37%)
2/20: $124,417.62 (+6,606.17, +5.61%)
3/20: $118,287.76 (-6,129.86, -4.93%)

Well, the market drop ate my extra paycheck last month. But the good news is I forgot to make my February Roth contribution, so I did it now while the market is down. Fingers crossed it stays down long enough for some back pay that's coming straight to my 403b in a few weeks....

I’m jumping in this thread with a few ideas and thoughts in mind. I don’t plan to add house equity or extras like that. I’m not even going to add the spouse’s 401k. I’ll be solely tracking
My 401k and my Roth IRA Numbers to go toward the goal of $250k. I may add the savings account numbers later, but most of that pays toward the last of my mortgage and a basement remodel right now.

My stats:

Jul2019 — $101953
Aug2019 — $106277
Sep2019 — $111050
Oct2019 — $114791
Nov2019 — $120215
Dec2019 — $122692
Jan2020 — $120521
Feb2020 — $123625

Numbers updated thru the last day of the month

Coronavirus update; thus far I minimized losses in my account.  I think I’m up to $125k for the first few days of March.  I’ve been using a fairly good plan and avoid emotional moves with the market.
There was a moment I jumped back in according to the plan, but unfortunately lost 5%. Oh well.  You win some and you lose some.

I hope others were able to make adjustments and protect their investments.

Hopefully, we're all buying at a nice discount right now. We`re investing $1,500 combined in our 401ks and $1,000 each into our IRAs this week.

Feb 2020- 141,124

We were able to save a lot this month despite the market, but just found out that we have a 30k tax bill so net worth is going to take a huge hit April 15th.

I hit my goal of 100K at the end of last year. Looking to hit 250K by June 2021 or sooner! I am only tracking investing.

Feb/2020: $107,987

Feb/2020: $107,987
Mar/01/2020: $96,513 (-11,474)

That sudden drop in the market hurt A LOT.

And yet, I'm not worried. Recession, whether a blip or something more, means the market is on sale. On top of that, there are a few stocks that have been hit especially hard. Holding out a short while longer for them to keep dropping before I start buying them in bulk and holding out for the inevitable rebound.

Sucks that I'm below 100K, but for the first time I'm poised to take advantage of a down market.

Dec-2016: $32,870.70
Dec-2017: $58,271.55   (+ 25,400.85)
Dec-2018: $72,493.16   (+ 14,221.61)
Dec-2019: $111,642.78   (+ 39,149.62)

Jan-2020:   $115,567.59   (+ 3,924.81)

Feb-2020:   $111,573.16   (- 3,994.43)

The only changes I made were: 1) I contributed my full $6,000 to my Roth IRA for 2019 after I had my bonus money in hand for it, 2) I also increased my 401k contributions from 25% to 35%, and 3) I will also be setting up an automatic contribution to my Roth IRA for $500 at the end of every month going forward, starting with March.

People looked at me as though I had 2 heads when I even mentioned shoving in even more cash, and as the black sheep of..well, all my circles, I know I'm doing the right thing (also cause ya'll have taught me a lot over the years).

Agreed! Pouring more into the market, especially those stocks who are selling at a deep, deep discount.

Just checking in to say that I'm not going to sum up my net worth for a few months.  We are doing fine and continuing to invest a portion of each paycheck as usual, but seeing my account totals is still a big bummer.

See you all on the other side!

Only counting my "Early Retirement stash". So this does not include my emergency-fund, pension capital, or payed-off residence.

These are the "end of the month" numbers:

Feb 2019   € 151 827.59
Mar 2019   € 157 527.28   (growth:  € 5 699.69 deposits: € 1 440.00)

Nov 2019   € 189 075.68   (growth:  € 8 914.94 deposits: € 3 735.00 )
Dec 2019   € 195 798.72   (growth:  € 6 723.04 deposits:  € 3 600.00)
Totals for 2019:
Growth:   € 60 523.78  (= 44,70%)
Deposits: € 22 925.00
Returns:  € 37 598.78  ( = 20,38%)

Jan 2020  € 198 632.07   (growth:  € 2 833.35)
Feb 2020  € 193 987.01   (growth: -€ 4 645.06)

Some Corona-virus related losses and less new investments as I was re-evaluating different providers for costs, tax efficiency, and convenience.
With this figured out and my small company employer having been acquired by a large tech-company with better compensation, I should have a much better savings-rate going forward.
Mar 2020  € 179 084.86   (growth: -€14 902.15 deposits: € 7 273.31)

Better savings-rate was no match for COVID-19.

Finally experienced the first bull market of my investing career. The only saving grace for my numbers was a  massive 17k tax return. While my investments took a beating I managed to stay surprisingly calm, and managed to buy a lot of investments for a good discount.
The world events on the other hand are a lot more concerning. Hope everyone stays safe over the next few months and continue to stay the course with their investment plans.

1/12/18 $50k
7/13/18 $63k
10/19/18 $75k
1/31/19 $80k
2/28/19 $100k
5/31/19 $119k
8/30/19 $130k
12/31/19 $163k

3/31/20 $156k
We bought a LOT of stock in the first three months of the year, which explains how we are only down $7k. But we won't be saving quite as fast the next couple of months. Should still easily exit the year at $200k given a sideways or slightly down market.

We have to pay the govt about $9k by July - my tax withholding last year was way lower than the ultimate liability. And the better half lost her job. And we were doubled up apartments for two months which wasn't ideal, but we almost halved our rent going forward and our new neighborhood is rad.

For context: I'm 30 in a HCOL city. I'm married, but these are my own numbers since we keep our finances separate. Includes cash, retirement, and credit cards, which are used for normal expenses and paid off in full every month.

3/18: $48,533.91 (found MMM and started tracking)
3/19: $83,762.93
8/19: $101,572.33 (graduated to this thread)
9/19: $104,368.69 (+2,796.36, +2.75%)
10/19: $107,279.56 (+2,910.87, +2.79%)
11/19: $111,107.47 (+3,827.91, +3.57%)
12/19: $112,883.69 (+1,776.22, +1.60%)
1/20: $117,811.45 (+4,927.26, +4.37%)
2/20: $124,417.62 (+6,606.17, +5.61%)
3/20: $118,287.76 (-6,129.86, -4.93%)
4/20: $109,838.67 (-8,449.09, -7.14%)

Had a couple thousand dollars of back pay go straight into my 403b earlier this month, and still down a ton with the market. Grateful to still be getting a paycheck, though, and grateful to be able to buy these shares on sale.

If this keeps up, I'll probably drop below $100k next month. I know people are mentioning going back down to the previous race, but I'd rather stay here. I'm still contributing as much as ever, and any drops are only from the market. I feel like I earned entry into this thread with my contributions, and I have faith the market will bring me back up again. I just don't know when.

@Accrual it is totally up to you. I personally do portfolio balance since that's the number I'm planning to use for retirement. I may change that once I start buying rental properties.

I am a 46y/o single mom recovering from prior bad spending habits. I am self employed with irregular income (and irregular investing) but it averages out at about 70k/yr net - before taxes. I am only tracking my investments. Thanks for sharing my journey!

2018 -  $78,121.71
2019 -  $118,693.32
Jan/2020 -  $118,495.49
Mar/2020 - $97,855.38 (-17.42%)

Given that the decrease is not due to my bad spending habits, I am staying put in this group for now.

I am planning on rebalancing some winners for some losers to match my IPS statement Monday thanks to my IPS (I am sure glad I committed to an IPS it's super helpful to keep me from making emotional decisions right now!) and I also topped off my HSA contributions for the year today.

I’m jumping in this thread with a few ideas and thoughts in mind. I don’t plan to add house equity or extras like that. I’m not even going to add the spouse’s 401k. I’ll be solely tracking
My 401k and my Roth IRA Numbers to go toward the goal of $250k. I may add the savings account numbers later, but most of that pays toward the last of my mortgage and a basement remodel right now.

My stats:

Jul2019 — $101953
Aug2019 — $106277
Sep2019 — $111050
Oct2019 — $114791
Nov2019 — $120215
Dec2019 — $122692
Jan2020 — $120521
Feb2020 — $123625
Mar2020 — $124248

Numbers updated thru the last day of the month

Coronavirus update; thus far I minimized most losses in my account.  I’ve been using a fairly good plan and avoid emotional moves with the market.
There was a moment I jumped back in according to the plan, but unfortunately lost 5%. Oh well.  You win some and you lose some.

I hope others were able to make adjustments and protect their investments. Times are a bit strange right now; however, I anticipate we will recover once this virus moves on.
Keep safe everyone!

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
