2019 Goal = $135k (Invested Total) & $222K (Total NW)
2019 Stretch Goal = $160k (Invested Total) & $250k (Total NW)

I am using Invested Total for this race. Predicted Graduation = Jan 2022 or 4 year from start.

Code: [Select]
Month End 401K        IRA Invested Total Home Value Rental Value Debt         Total NW
Dec-13 $43,660 $0         $43,660 $120,000 $120,000 $232,000 $51,660
Dec-14 $52,943 $0         $52,943 $125,000 $125,000 $227,000 $75,943
Dec-15 $55,622 $0         $55,622 $130,000 $130,000 $227,000 $88,622
Dec-16 $68,870 $700 $69,570 $200,000 $130,000 $281,000 $118,570
Dec-17 $96,294 $1,167 $97,461 $240,000 $135,000 $317,727 $154,724
Dec-18 $103,098 $3,861 $106,959 $240,000 $125,000 $296,155 $175,804
Jan-19 $110,710 $4,151 $114,861 $240,000 $125,000 $313,885* $165,976
Feb-19 $116,005 $4,295 $120,300 $240,000 $125,000 $309,693 $175,607
Mar-19 $119,846 $4,333 $124,179 $240,000 $125,000 $302,998 $186,181
Apr-19 $125,157 $5,322 $130,479 $240,000 $125,000 $311,402 $184,076
May-19 $120,825 $704 $121,529 $240,000 $125,000 $305,517 $181,012

*I added $18k-19k of debt for the rental that I had not been tracking.  I realized that if I was going to count the rental equity & mortgage, I probably should count the other rental debt too.

Sometimes it is sunshine and rainbows, sometimes you find out that you didn't have all the information that you thought you had and the market moves in the negative all in the same month. All the information is now accounted for (or it better be), a vehicle was traded in (decrease in debt by $6k), the rental will be put on the market in June (potential decrease in debt by $112k, hopefully), and regularly scheduled payments should decrease debt by another $6k by the end of the year.  The debt side of this table should be below $190k by the end of the year, but that also throws off the goal invested total vs total NW.  I have had so many curve balls thrown at me this month that I am just kind of sitting back and waiting to see what else can happen that alters my current plans, very much feels like making plans/goals is useless.

Hi gang! Today I graduated to the $100k thread :) I'm gonna come hang out with y'allf or a few years, if you'll have me.

(Tomorrow rent comes out of my checking account and I temporarily ungraduate. But who's counting?)
We are at $113k today. The market pullback has been good to us. (Stocks are on sale!)

We save about $5k a month. My 401(k) is ridiculously good (decent employer contribution, plus we can contribute up to 50% and up to the IRS limit of $56k, daily conversions of nondeductible contributions to Roth) so I put as much as I can into that, plus we throw about a quarter of SWMBO'S salary into an IRA.

Back of the envelope says we've lost $4k or so in the recent pullback, nothing worth crying over.

May 2019: 102,272

Well, at least I did not go under 100k.

I've reached the goal of 100k last month, so it's time to aim for 250k.

Apr 2019: 104,580

Congratulations on the milestone!  I think you actually can notice the benefits of compounding after you crest that 100k point.  Good progress and a great month's gains, too!

Thank you. It will be interesting to have the market decide most of the gains and losses.

Contributions this month were erased, and then some. Next few months are gonna be a wash, buying a new home, and yet to sell existing home. On a positive note the new house is a slight upgrade from the old one, and not a huge leap. This should keep my wife off my back for a few more years and allow me to keep investing :)

Wow - been tracking a year.  Funny how market affects the net worth.  Frankly, I've been spinning my wheels paying down debt and paying lip service to curbing spending.  With a little luck. But it's time to make more luck!

Mar-19: Another solid month in the markets: $159,074.12 investments + $8928.66 HSA = $168002.78

I love these market gains :-) $176343 total, will add the detail later.

Detail: $176343 = $9434 HSA + $166908 in investments (Taxable + Roth IRA + 401k)

Went back and looked at my goal when I first joined this thread, I had set it for June 2020 with a stretch goal of January 2020. I am further ahead than anticipated but not by that much either.

Current overall total: $184512.48 which comprises of $9961.61 HSA and $174550.87 investments (Taxable + Roth IRA + 401k + ESPP for this quarter).

This means that reaching $250k by January 31st means ~$65.7k in gains or roughly what my overall annual savings including home equity look like. I doubt I will make it and hoping for a continuation of the stock market at its current pace would be the best year on record so that is also unlikely. We shall see what the future holds but there are really no bad outcomes while I'm still accumulating.
May-2019: $171694 + $9786 HSA is $181480 for a slight drop.

Will start saving a bit more through payroll deductions as of June so all is well.

03/2019: $220,649
04/2019: $231,153
05/2019: $230,149

Market erased contributions plus $1k.  At least we had 5 purchase points this month that will help us later on.  Pushed graduation out a month probably too.  I also added back to 2016.  Mrs. DBS asked about the history and I had to search too hard to find it, so keeping it here for posterity.  08/2018 - 01/2019 will just stay gone.  Too much work to dig it up.  I know it went down a lot due to some expenses and the market drop, and then came back up with my wife starting work again.

First number is retirement savings, second is total NW including cash emergency savings and real estate equity.

January 2015: $98,619

January 2016: $101,235
December 2016: $140,779 (total NW $269,089)

January 2017: $151,307 (total NW $276,052)

December 2018: $194,973 (total NW $367,535)

January 2019: $210,742 (total NW $375,622)
February 2019: $220,342 (total NW $390,613)
March 2019: $222,125 (total NW $391,337)
April 2019: $228,200 (total NW $403,977)
May 2019: $223,933 (total NW $394,029)

The total NW is over $250k but I'm focused on retirement only for this challenge. A good chunk of the NW is real estate equity.

I am tracking only IRA/401K/taxable accounts.
5/31/2018 $100,519.07  - not even the slightest clue on target date...I'll be here for a few years :)
6/30/2018 $105.187.34
7/31/2018 $109,052.07
8/31/2018 $116,748.06
9/31/2018 $125.833.33 (should slow down for rest of year as both 401Ks are maxed)
10/31/2018 $121,400.49 (market pain)
11/30/2018 $120,116/63
12/31/2018 $115,318.38 (more market pain and put some resources towards our new AirBnB venture - looking forward to buying stocks on sale now that 401K is back in play)
1/31/2019 $121,188.34 (next couple of months are my favorite time of year - 401K is in play, bonus and employer 401K match (3% of compensation) all hit)
2/28/2019 $136,880.76 (one twomore fun months, then back to slow(er) growth mode)
3/31/2019 $141,195.30 (one more fun month - employer 401k contribution and last month until max 401k for the year)
4/30/2019 $161,209.95 (going to try to continue speed with taxable account - we will see with a 2-week old at home how this plays out)
5/31/2019 $157,215.34 (market pain decline despite adding close to $4,000 in my after-tax account.....stay the course)

Well, at least I'm still above 200...
Spent about $1,500 above budget to pay off credit cards.
We have a vacation coming up so we have stopped contributions for the month of June to cover costs.  So next month will be purely market fluctuations... can't wait to see what happens.

Yeesh.  Well, I kept putting the money away, but the market shows a negative right now. But I will keep putting more in.  Sometimes it feels like my number isn't growing much, but I know it will over the long term.

May Update

1//2019 - $107,673.20
2//2019 - $116,133.78
3//2019 - $119538.07
4//2019 - $129090.20
5//2019 - $125,693.12  - 61% Savings Rate - market down. Ouch. Lowest savings rate in a very long time - bought tickets to visit Europe in August [Around $1800]. Not Mustachian at all. But looking forward to it. Bit of a buzzkill after such a big month in April. New 401k with new job, will take me until August to max out for the year. Best purchase of the month was a new $30 teapot that I use every single day for hot and iced tea.

April 13, 2019 = $100,325.68
May 4, 2019 = $104,848.79
May 19, 2019 $104,598.06(Market downturn, but we contributed enough to our 401K to keep it above 104K)
June 7, 2019 $109,857.56(That sweet overtime, market upswing, and work quarter bonus!)

Significant but good changes have happened to us this month. Got rid of some ongoing bills that won`t be bothering us anymore. Totaling to the amount of $238 monthly added to our savings, and our bills(including food) are now down to a little over $1500. We have also just got our roof redone. We paid with my wife`s new Chase Sapphire card for the total of $5300(small house). The amazing thing was we had the cash on hand to pay, but we wanted the travel points and bonus travel points. So, in reality the roof only costed us about $4700. We`ll have it all paid by the next due statement. Really amazing past couple of weeks.

It was yearly raises as long as you met training requirements and performance goals, though since I was previously a certain grade level I did not receive my first full pay raise from one grade to the next until this year.

This is with the US Federal Government. Palace Acquire (halfway down this page) https://www.afciviliancareers.com/students.php

Thanks. But I'm not counting it until I hit the number. I don't want to graduate and then have to come back.

I'm crashing two threads and this will be my joint account. I like my personal one since it's easier to motivate myself then my wife, but it still nice seeing the change in combined NW/Investments which is what matters.

2016/12/31: 17500$ invested (NW 43929$)
2017/06/30: 23500$ invested (NW 21600$) House foundation rebuild...
2017/12/31: 29713$ invested (NW 40492$)
2018/06/30: 41895$ invested (NW 68955$)
2018/10/30: 82642$ invested (NW 118669$) Work related 40k windfall
2019/01/01: 83406$ invested (NW 126961$)

2019/06/20: 102900$ invested (NW 145095$)

It seems I took too long to update and I've been kicked out of the sheet. Nevermind, I'll track here only.
A bit of back tracking here. As investment changes, started accelerated mortgage payment 3 months ago, target is to pay it in full in 2024 at worst (9 years mortgage). Also crossed the 100k invested total, which is what I track for this thread. We'll see in the next months/years if compounding really takes off after 100k, and if the market remains strong, but in any case, target is to save enough to offset any market loss in the next years and keep growing the NW.

6/29: $197044 = $10829 HSA + $186215

Great month where a new salary increase took effect. Super excited to see me get close to the year end goal of $200k already.

03/2017 - $130,500
04/2017 - $133,780 ( Savings Ratio 48.2%)
07/2017 - $147,452 ( Savings Ratio 39.1%)
10/2017 - $162,673 ( Savings Ratio 54.9%)
01/2018 - $193,174 ( Savings Ratio 63.3%)
02/2018 - $207,459 (Savings Ratio 67.7%)
05/2018 - $202,142 ( Savings Ratio 27.54%)
02/2019 - $215,000 (Savings Ratio 63.0%)
04/2019 - $221,150 (Savings Ratio 9%)
07/2019 - $238,090 (Savings Ratio 31.75%)

Again a low savings ratio for the last 3 months because of buying a ring and some travel. I'm still saving a decent amount, and I got a raise so I can save even more soon. Very positive future but not a lot to show for it in the last 3 months.
