Tracking investments, emergency fund and additional pension investments (all to be used to retire together with SO!)
(not tracking company pension investments, house value and current accounts / special project savings)

15 May 2020: EUR 17,034 (started tracking)
15 December 2020: EUR 23,325

31 January 2021: EUR 24,040
28 February 2021: EUR 25,103
31 March 2021: EUR 26,263
30 April 2021: EUR 27,109
31 May 2021: EUR 30,039
30 June 2021: EUR 30,721
31 July 2021: EUR 31,784
31 August 2021: EUR 31,331
30 September 2021: EUR 31,508
31 October 2021: EUR 32,843
(2021 goal: EUR 35K)

Better month this time. My 2021 goal seems so close, but yet so far, especially when I take into accountthat the last two months of the year which are usually quite expensive. We try to cut down on expensive presents and give experiences instead. However, experiences also come with a price, so this will be a discussion to have in our household in the next couple of weeks and try to keep expectations low.

The largest monthly increase to date, no thanks to my savings which were only roughly 450 €. I need to reign back the spending. Bitcoin price increases and stock market gains have masked the fact that I did poorly on the savings side in the last few months. Still happy with the increase though and I calculated today, that in the last 12 months my NW increased by more than my net salary over the same period. Crazy

It's not the end of the month yet so I'm not counting it as a proper update, but some surges in crypto means my total invested just topped £100,000!

I am absolutely speechless. I grew up poor. This was unimaginable to me. Thank you to everyone on this forum for the encouragement.

Just come to have a little vent. I'm very much in the looong middle ground of this race at 65k invested and I'm starting to get really itchy feet.

I dont even want to spend the money, I'm just grumpy about how long it is taking. It feels like the push forward to the next major milestone of 75k is a long way away.

Ok, rant over. Thanks everyone.

@Stubblestache -- I remember your post from the beginning of the year about the long middle ground, and the itchy feet^.  You made it buddy!  Well done.  I understand the awe you're feeling.  I grew up poor too and having lots of zeroes in your account balance can take some getting used to.

You're going to need to stay strong for the next stretch from $100k to $250k.  For me that was the hardest one mentally; it was a big challenge to not focus on the investments all the time, and to just put them on autopilot and live life.  You can do it!

haha yes that feels like ages ago now! Things are mostly on autopilot already, I never feel like I'm missing out on anything for saving money. I guess ultimately, 100k is just the same as 95k and 105k, just another step on the way to FI.

Thank you so much for your kind words!

My N/W grew by £2,846.97 to a new total of £54,453.44.
My N/W grew by £1,721.56 to a new total of £56,175.
My N/W grew by £2,262.53 to a new total of £58,437.53.

November Update:

My N/W grew by £3,196.03 to a new total of £61,633.56.

I think it's my biggest monthly rise since I started tracking.  I've hit my target for the year so anything added in December is a bonus.

I've started moving some of my emergency funds into my ISA.  I can still access it fairly quickly (within about a week) if I really need it.  My wife and I have savings elsewhere which we don't have any immediate plans for, and I'm finding I have more and more disposable income each month, so I feel quite comfortable in case of an emergency.

Investments slid down and I needed to pay some professional fees, etc. It seems unlikely I will make it to my goal of 85k by end of year but I will try to keep spending down during the holidays so that I don’t sabotage progress into the new year. Here’s to graduating this thread in 2022!!

Well, last time I posted the stock market was in good shape :-D

Nevertheless, NW increased to 80k since June, that is +10k in 5 months.

The next few months will be choppy, since we are buying a piece of land and will have costs associated with that (taxes, paperwork...)
Once the house is build, the ride will smooth out again.

Tracking investments, emergency fund and additional pension investments (all to be used to retire together with SO!)
(not tracking company pension investments, house value and current accounts / special project savings)

15 May 2020: EUR 17,034 (started tracking)
15 December 2020: EUR 23,325

31 January 2021: EUR 24,040
28 February 2021: EUR 25,103
31 March 2021: EUR 26,263
30 April 2021: EUR 27,109
31 May 2021: EUR 30,039
30 June 2021: EUR 30,721
31 July 2021: EUR 31,784
31 August 2021: EUR 31,331
30 September 2021: EUR 31,508
31 October 2021: EUR 32,843
30 November 2021: EUR 33,275
(2021 goal: EUR 35K)

Markets were not nice in the last couple of days. Anyway, it is not downwards, but my 2021 goal seems a bit of a stretch at this point. Here is to hoping for a nice bonus in December......

I see some graduates this month! Congrats on getting to that famous 6 digit number!
And a few "almost graduates". You are an inspiration for us!

Now up to December. Hoping for a nice yearend rally on the markets and trying to keep costs low. I already bought all presents for the family, so now it is just a matter of keeping the other costs down.
Here is to a nice, cosy and warm December (while currently it's raining cats and dogs here....).

My N/W grew by £2,846.97 to a new total of £54,453.44.
My N/W grew by £1,721.56 to a new total of £56,175.
My N/W grew by £2,262.53 to a new total of £58,437.53.
My N/W grew by £3,196.03 to a new total of £61,633.56.

Early update for December as I get paid tomorrow (early ahead of Christmas).

My N/W grew by £2,080.14 to a new total of £63,713.70.

On 18/12/2020 my N/W was £40,702,18.  So I've added around £23k in that time.  The year before I added around £12k, so I'm heading in the right direction.

My target for 2022 is to reach £90k.

Have a good Christmas everyone.

Hi everyone,

*strange year but I have managed to save over 22k which means that I can likely graduate this thread sometime during the next year if all goes well. That’s exciting.. I will challenge myself to see how quickly I can get there..we spent  a lot of money this year on kitchen renovations and other upgrades. Hoping to keep those types of costs low in ‘22 and maybe just save for a trip or a project with my dad.

My donation put me back under, and the market dropped just slightly today... But I didn't account for year-end dividends!

Happy New Year to everyone! I hope everyones wishes and goals for this year come true and that we can hopefully leave the pandemic behind us this year.

December ended on a very positive note, even though the net worth doesn't reflect this. Despite 2,8k € in savings in december and good stock market returns net worth decreased due to BTC and ETH losing quite a bit. But much more importantly on the last working day of the year I sought out my boss with a bunch of improvements I think are neccessary for us to implement in order to do better going forward. He agreed to almost all of them and agreed to a raise for myself which translates to roughly 23 % more pay before taxes as well. Some particulars are not clear yet and due to some additional non-salary compensation which might happen the actual increase could end up being closer to 25 %. This will significantly increase my savings rate going forward.

Additionally I mentioned here a few months back that my bikes were stolen. My boss offered that the company would buy a bike which I am then allowed to use freely for personal use as well. In Germany companies can claim bikes and e-bikes as business expenses while the employees do not need to pay taxes for being allowed to use them for personal use in order to incentivize more people to ride by bike instead of by car. So it's essentially a free bike for me even though I won't be the legal owner of it. I had already set my eyes on a gravelbike which was pricey but still reasonable, roughly 1,7k € new. When I showed this to my boss his exact words were: "I thought you wanted a real bike, take advantage of this." So now a pretty sweet bike for 3k € was ordered which is set to arrive in a few weeks.

I had been dreading this conversation with my boss for a long time because even though I was sure these improvements are neccessary I wasn't sure how he would react to this unsolicited advice. It went much much better than expected.

October 2021: €30357,48
November 2021: €32537,78
December 2021: €33194,68

Goals for 2021:
Savings: €10.000
Investments: €25.000

Didn't make my goal of €35k ... but also had an unexpected expensive that cost about €2200. That accounts for the difference. It was a necessity that I can easily afford, so no big deal.

@Tass @Ze Stash @LittleWanderer @shrimpwd  yay for progress!! Especially Tass for reaching the finish. It's incredible what you did. I'm so excited to see people from the 10k club make such good progress. We've come a long way on regular incomes.

Goals for 2022:
Savings: €15.000
Investments: €30.000

I expect a lot of uncertain expenses in 2022. That's why I want to increase the liquid buffer even higher. €15k is about 8 months of expenses so that's on the high side, but in the grand scheme of things 15k isn't all that much money. I hope that by the end of 2022 we'll have a much clearer picture of our financial situation. When the dust is settled down I can always put more money in the market, but I don't invest money that I may need sometime soon.

I don't track the value of my pension, my home and some sinking funds here so this is not a full picture.

Happy with the increase! Had some planned expenses, as well as Christmas gifts in December, so any forward progress is good progress! I have one more big expense that I'm expecting in the next two to three months, but my tax return will more than cover it due to get a "kicker" back from the state this year! I plan to graduate from this thread by the end of the year! Happy new year everyone!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!!
Due to a nice December bonus and some market movements I could make my 2021 goal (and a little more)! So happy to have crossed the EUR 35K line. Now up to 2022 goal. This will be EUR 45K with a stretch goal to EUR 50K (which means I will be halfway on this challenge!).

@Imma: too bad you just missed your goal. But being able to save while having these kind of unexpected expenses is quite an accomplishment!
@Ze Stash: this sounds like excellent results on your conversations with your boss. Happy to see that they value your input!
@Tass: YOU MADE IT!!!! Doing the happy dance for you!

All others: let's rock 2022 with a lot of graduations!

Hi everyone,

My updated figures for January. I purchased 17 units of S&P500 (VUSA) this month for a total price of €1,244

The below figures show the value of my investments in the S&P500 (VUSA) excluding tax on profits - 41% in Ireland.

Jan 17 - €0
Jan 18 - €7,576
Jan19 - €17,310
Jan 20 - €19,455

Jan  21 - €27,122
Feb 21 - €27,122
Mar 21 - €32,712
Apr 21 - €35,401
May 21 - €36,474
Jun 21 - €39,160
July 21 - €41,034
Aug 21 - €42,882
Sep 21 - €43,667
Oct 21 - €46,022
Nov 21 - €47,832
Dec 21 - €50,091
Jan 22 - €48,799

My investment goal for 2022
I purchased almost €14K of the S&P in 2021. This was really good going, but was helped by Covid – I went nowhere so spent nothing! I don’t expect I’ll have such a frugal year in 2022. I do want to keep the momentum going however. My aim for 2022 is to purchase at least €12k of the S&P during the year.
