+2.1k €
->
~ 63.6k € / 75k $

that thing about random extra spending didn't really work after i had to replace my stove top.
Also bought some bike stuff.
Oh well. Ran the numbers, still far cheaper than owning a car.

-1.5k €
->
~62.1k € / 71.9k $

now, the exchange rates really didn't have to slip as well just to rub it in, but oh well.

Markets down a bit, and i had a spendy month. Set up zwift for winter bike riding, replaced my spider-app'd phone, upgraded bike components.
feels bad I can't drop an additional 1000€ on the discount stocks now, but market timing is a nono anyway.

Tracking investments, emergency fund and additional pension investments (all to be used to retire together with SO!)
(not tracking company pension investments, house value and current accounts / special project savings)

15 May 2020: EUR 17,034 (started tracking)
15 December 2020: EUR 23,325

31 January 2021: EUR 24,040
28 February 2021: EUR 25,103
31 March 2021: EUR 26,263
30 April 2021: EUR 27,109
31 May 2021: EUR 30,039
30 June 2021: EUR 30,721
31 July 2021: EUR 31,784
31 August 2021: EUR 31,331
30 September 2021: EUR 31,508
(2021 goal: EUR 35K)

Tiny.....tiny.....tiny...... but still an increase this month. Feels a bit disappointing, since I did my normal contributions and these are more than this increase. But hey, this is how markets work. Only 3 months to go for this year. Hopefully I can still make the goal!

01/10/2021: 55.405,64 € (-132,80 €)

Savings were roughly 850 €, the downturn happened due to stockmarket.

My basement was broken into and my two bikes were stolen. On top of that they (him/her?) also stole my biking shoes, lights, helmet and even the tire pump. My girlfriends bike, my skis and some other non-valuable stuff was left, so I guess it was just one person and he/her couldn't carry more than two bikes.

In true mustachian fashion I self insured, because I don't have many valuable possession. So sadly on that front I got unlucky and household insurance would have been the better option. Hindsight is 20/20 though. I got a pretty basic Fixie bike as a replacement to get around, but will eventually need to replace my gravel bike. This especially hurts as I got my old one on ebay for fairly cheap and prices on ebay have nearly doubled here recently. It is near impossible to buy new bikes, because all vendors are out of stock due to supply chain issues and way more people showing interest in biking due to the corona crisis. So I either swallow the pill and get an equal replacement for way more than I originally paid on ebay, get a cheaper but worse replacement on ebay, or just wait until prices come down again but don't get to ride in the meantime.

11/30/20 - SEP Balance $ 15524.45 + Roth $ 1770.76 - Student loan balance $ 6897.45 = $ 10,397.76
12/30/20 - SEP Balance $ 16106.09 + Roth $ 1813.94 - Student loan balance $ 6306.71 = $ 11,613.32
01/29/21 - SEP + Roth $ 20,139.02 - Student loan balance $ 5,316.32 = $ 14,822.70
02/28/21 - SEP + Roth $ 21,680.41 - Student loan balance $ 4,000.15 = $ 17,680.26
03/31/21 - SEP + Roth $ 22,823.38 - Student loan balance $ 2,994.55 = $ 19,828.83
04/27/21 - SEP + Roth $ 24,365.29 - Student loan balance $ 1,699.29 = $ 22,666.00
05/31/21 - SEP + Roth $ 25,063.59 - Student loan balance $ 0 = $ 25,063.59 - Student loan is paid off!!!
8/21/21 - SEP + Roth $ 27,113.71
9/30/21 - SEP + Roth $ 27,063.71

I added $1000 this month to my SEP, but due to market flux, I look like I have a loss. But I am in this for the long game, so I know this month I bought these funds on sale, just keep buying.

Goals for 2021:
Savings: €10.000
Investments: €25.000

Seems I'm one of the few people still moving up instead of down! It's because I hold a relatively large amount of my NW in savings - about 25% right now. This year's goal was increasing my savings, as well as investing my regular amounts every month.  Last Christmas we decided that we needed to save up more cash in 2021 - we were still in the middle of the second wave then, we were both on short-term job contracts and our home needed some repairs. So we did. I'm glad we did even though we may have missed out on some gains. It gives us great peace of mind to know we could still cope with a major home repair or something even if we both lost our jobs somehow.

I still feel uncertain about a lot of things now. Energy has become extremely expensive. Right now we pay €73/month and we usually get a small refund at the end of the year. Our current contract runs out in February and I just looked up current pricing. The cheapest price I could find for a new contract is €125/month. We can still easily afford that, but if we have a cold winter, it will probably be even more expensive in February. We could still afford it even if the prices tripled but I'd rather not pay that. We aren't really experiencing empty shelves in my corner of the world but we are slowly filling up our pantry again just in case. We're not hoarding, just buying one extra bag of flour or vegetables at a time.

Went on vacation and spent $$! Looks like the market downturn got some other people, too. At least two significant paychecks, late due to an error, are finally coming in this month.

09.2021 - £99,228 (+2,005)
10.2021 - £100,008 (+780) - Sneaked just over the £100K milestone!!

I started the race to £10K in Aug 2016 and I hit £10K 18 months later in Apr 2018 from a starting net worth of -£13K. It took me 3.5 years to save up to £100K! Along the way I paid off my student loan completely (last payment was August just gone!), moved across the country, bought a flat, went from single to a relationship, to engaged, through a large pay cut at the height of the pandemic last year and handling various other life problems.

Thanks to all on the forum, I've been more of a lurker in this thread but I always enjoyed reading everyone's progress :). See you all in the race to £250K!

Sorry to hear that.  People are such scumbags.  Keep an eye on Facebook marketplace and eBay, sometimes people rob them and try to sell them on there.

You said hindsight is 20/20 and you're right.  Don't beat yourself up about it.  These things happen.  Just go and buy better locks lol.

Being honest, not really. I do struggle with buying takeaway though because I'm a greedy so and so. Stick at it, it will become a habit and do you know the goal you want to get to? Are you clear on it?

We all have our kryptonite. Have you tried fakeaways? not as convenient but can be just as tasty. Mostly I spend stupid amounts of time trying to make the numbers work for a brand new electric car purchase or a solar panel investment and buying my own home. Realistically all these things are likely to be inferior to just DCA into the market and chill.

My N/W grew by £1,721.56 to a new total of £56,175.

October update:

My N/W grew by £2,262.53 to a new total of £58,437.53.

Only £1,562.47 to go to hit my target of £60k this year.  I should hopefully do that next month, but lets see. :)

-1.5k €
->

Already ran the numbers since there are no bills left to pay for the month

+3.5k €
->
~65.6k € / 76.6k $

No fancy purchases.
Slightly bumped portfolio contributions by 50€ / month to begin chipping away at last months happy little accident.

Talking money with the superiors soon, curious where that'll put my savings rate for next year

I can't believe I'm in the 90s! when I started this journey in 2018, the thought of having 90k was a pipe dream. To anyone starting out, just keep plugging away, putting in bit by bit consistently, and it'll happen.

It can be so hard - especially around this time of the year when the weather gets gross and I want a little pick me up! I always put my investment amount in my investment account as soon as I get paid, so I only have what's remaining left to spend. If I can make that stretch to fill some spending want I have, great, but my investment for the month is already in place and that's that. Helps keep me honest :)

(not tracking company pension investments, house value and current accounts / special project savings)

15 May 2020: EUR 17,034 (started tracking)
15 December 2020: EUR 23,325

31 January 2021: EUR 24,040
28 February 2021: EUR 25,103
31 March 2021: EUR 26,263
30 April 2021: EUR 27,109
31 May 2021: EUR 30,039
30 June 2021: EUR 30,721
31 July 2021: EUR 31,784
31 August 2021: EUR 31,331
30 September 2021: EUR 31,508
31 October 2021: EUR 32,843
(2021 goal: EUR 35K)

Better month this time. My 2021 goal seems so close, but yet so far, especially when I take into accountthat the last two months of the year which are usually quite expensive. We try to cut down on expensive presents and give experiences instead. However, experiences also come with a price, so this will be a discussion to have in our household in the next couple of weeks and try to keep expectations low.

The largest monthly increase to date, no thanks to my savings which were only roughly 450 €. I need to reign back the spending. Bitcoin price increases and stock market gains have masked the fact that I did poorly on the savings side in the last few months. Still happy with the increase though and I calculated today, that in the last 12 months my NW increased by more than my net salary over the same period. Crazy

It's not the end of the month yet so I'm not counting it as a proper update, but some surges in crypto means my total invested just topped £100,000!

I am absolutely speechless. I grew up poor. This was unimaginable to me. Thank you to everyone on this forum for the encouragement.

Just come to have a little vent. I'm very much in the looong middle ground of this race at 65k invested and I'm starting to get really itchy feet.

I dont even want to spend the money, I'm just grumpy about how long it is taking. It feels like the push forward to the next major milestone of 75k is a long way away.

Ok, rant over. Thanks everyone.

@Stubblestache -- I remember your post from the beginning of the year about the long middle ground, and the itchy feet^.  You made it buddy!  Well done.  I understand the awe you're feeling.  I grew up poor too and having lots of zeroes in your account balance can take some getting used to.

You're going to need to stay strong for the next stretch from $100k to $250k.  For me that was the hardest one mentally; it was a big challenge to not focus on the investments all the time, and to just put them on autopilot and live life.  You can do it!

haha yes that feels like ages ago now! Things are mostly on autopilot already, I never feel like I'm missing out on anything for saving money. I guess ultimately, 100k is just the same as 95k and 105k, just another step on the way to FI.

Thank you so much for your kind words!

My N/W grew by £2,846.97 to a new total of £54,453.44.
My N/W grew by £1,721.56 to a new total of £56,175.
My N/W grew by £2,262.53 to a new total of £58,437.53.

November Update:

My N/W grew by £3,196.03 to a new total of £61,633.56.

I think it's my biggest monthly rise since I started tracking.  I've hit my target for the year so anything added in December is a bonus.

I've started moving some of my emergency funds into my ISA.  I can still access it fairly quickly (within about a week) if I really need it.  My wife and I have savings elsewhere which we don't have any immediate plans for, and I'm finding I have more and more disposable income each month, so I feel quite comfortable in case of an emergency.
