Hey all!

I find motivating to see how great is in general people doing, I think I'll start reporting as well. I started tracking my NW Jul'20. I bought a property on Jan'20, when fires in Australia were the worst thing that had happened in a very long time.

Anyway, here go the numbers: the column in the right does not consider my house - as asset, mortgage also excluded -, the left does include both. I do have accounts in several currencies but everything is consolidated in EUR:

              NW   Liquid NW
Jul-20   47,328    19,245
Aug-20   49,579    21,248
Sep-20   52,077    23,491
Oct-20   55,935    27,097
Nov-20   58,368    29,322
Dec-20   60,712    31,332
Jan-21   63,592    33,828

Goal for 2021: take the right column to 50k!

@Serendip ..

There is only a fine line between giving up and acceptance as in stoicism. That is a scary proposition.
To me being stoic is almost like shutting down all your other emotions, perhaps even the oomph you need to triumph over difficult circumstances.
Of course, I might be totally missing the point:).

To me pragmatism is more helpful because whether we like it or not things do not always go our way so the better solution is to make the best out of any situation and remember to change yourself, a change in perspective, a change in plan or an AHA moment is way better than stoic acceptance.

Thanks for offering this reflection of yours @Rosy - it was interesting to mull upon.
I don't interpret stoicism as encouraging a shut-down of emotions but that might be because the contemporary view of the philosophy seems quite different than the roots. The exercises which encourage growth and practicing hardiness have been guiding lights for me these past years..

I actually see your definition of pragmatism as quite close to my interpreted definition of stoicism!
ha..funny how that works :)

1/28/21 - $79,429 +$6,534

Yee haw, we are making great progress.  In fact, the total has already grown to over $81k.  We have benefitted from a lot of income coming into me, some of it pre-payments from students, which goes directly into my savings for monthly use throughout the year (Admittedly, this isn't the same as long-term savings, but very often I'm able to divert this money into other savings buckets).

In addition to a windfall from my teaching studio, our higher 30% savings rate is awesome!

Feeling great, enjoying the progress.

Side note: The money I am tracking here is our investments and savings.  It doesn't include checking accounts or money set aside for taxes.  When you add that in, we are over $90k.  Our grand total should be reaching six figures soon!!

Yee haw!

01/01/21: $21,735 ($2,207)
02/03/21: $21,870 ($135)

Very happy to see my net worth increase at all in January, due to some high expenses this past month. I refinanced my home in January with 15 yr at 1.75% and installed an electric pedal assist motor onto my bike so that I can now perform all errands in town without a car and not have to worry about an increase in time due to biking. I do not see any foreseeable expenses and expect a healthy savings rate in the coming months! Also, I am not tracking equity in my house which would be approximately 40-45k. Great to see everyone progressing!

My stash has reached $79,000 (assuming a 20% loss on whatever gets pulled out of my 401k), which is larger than my remaining mortgage and student loan balances combined. Feels good.

1/1/2021    $72,663
2/6/2021    $110,058

Well, the goal has been achieved much quicker than expected after losing my job.  Turns out the pension that was offered at the previous employer cashes you out if you haven't vested, so we were able to roll $30K into our IRA.  Not the way I expected to achieve the goal, but nice to have reached this milestone.  6 years ago when DW and I agreed to get out of debt and start saving didn't think we would ever get to this point.

Good job to everyone who is keeping on their path and I'll see you all in the next thread.

Feb 05, 2021: $82,000 (-1.45%, -$1,207)

January is the most expensive month in the year, because this is when I send half of the yearly utility fees to my wife (who then pays utilities in each month to the service provider). Moreover, this is the time of the year when we transfer a small amount to our little daughter's investment account. And, I usually put the yearly total of my monthly child tax credit (~$400/year) into my child's envelope, which we use for buying stuff for her. And, my investments performed quite bad (-4%) in January.

On the bright side, since I had quite a lot of cash laying around after selling an ETF in December, I could buy more ETFs at this "cheap" price :)
In addition, this was my best month as a domainer, I sold 4 domains for a total of $1500. I'm reinvesting the profit to further improve my business. This was an exceptional month, and I do not expect anything similar this year.

I hope my ETFs go up this month, and hopefully I'll receive my long-awaited overtime payment ($120) and employee referral ($800) from my workplace. I also expect a strong SR (>65%), so I'm aiming $85,000 this month.

I do not include my savings to buy expensive "fun items" like new cellphone, electronics etc. as it is not very big. My checking account is also not included as it has money I will likely spend this month. Goal for 2021 is to make it to $100K. - Aiming for June

Net worth:

Dec2020:$82,778 (+$5,987)

Jan2021:$89,090.47 (+$6,321.50) - Posting late due to some family stuff. I will say I am impressed how much faster this last 3rd is going. In the 40-50k region, I was gaining 1-2k/month. Now I am gaining 4k/month. I really haven't changed how much I contribute. Good job to everyone closing in on their goals! Even if you didn't meet your goals for the year, you are likely better off this year than last year!

It has come to my attention there's another line of savings I've been ignoring: (somewhat?!) tax advantaged retirement savings running on a small portion of my pre-tax income with an employer match.
Need to pester the agent for access to see how the stock portion of that is doing, but just the guaranteed baseline bumps my ultimate savings up by ~10% of the take-home :)

Will leave it out of the tracking for this thread, might carry it over to the next though. Inconvenient choice, i don't feel like this part of savings is fully under my control. At a glance, everything i find about early access has ages listed starting with a 6, so that doesn't seem a likely route haha

Roughly 1,3k of that gain were savings. It was already at almost 48k, but then BTC came back down again. I started last summer with less than 5 % in crypto, now it's up to almost 30 % without any additional investments into crypto. It's crazy, but all additional investments still go into ETFs.

Aug 2020$7,009.45$44,173.61
Sep 2020$11,791.74$44,286.81
Oct 2020$31,492.96$64,282.56
Nov 2020$41,576.98$73,480.24
Dec 2020$50,880.91$81,261.12
Jan 2021$57,339.00$89,777.45
Feb 2021$64,586.53$97,514.01

Back to a more normal month, spending wise. These numbers were looking better until a dip late in the month. Oh well, time to keep chugging along. Savings rate for the month was 65%.

As an aside, I think I'll stay in this group until my invested amount is $100k, as that was my original intention. But for further races, I might consider using total net worth instead. That's because in February, my wife found out that she landed her dream job in the Bay Area... so we'll have to move out there. As a consequence, we're considering whether we should start aggressively saving for a down payment (or increase emergency fund) in cash. But that's for when we get past $100k invested... hopefully soon.

Tracking investments, emergency fund and additional pension investments (all to be used to retire together with SO!)
(not tracking company pension investments, house value and current accounts / special project savings)

15 May 2020: EUR 17,034 (started tracking)
15 December 2020: EUR 23,325

31 January 2021: EUR 24,040
28 February 2021: EUR 25,103
(2021 goal: EUR 35K)

YES!!!! Crossed the EUR 25K mark. And having the first two digits change upward every month is very motivating! I just hope I can keep up and have this change every month, so I will reach my 2021 goal.

Mine and yours progress is so similar over the last couple years. I'm expecting to hit $100,000 by the end of the year. So step it up! We got this! Save Save Save! :)

7/1/2020: $46,295
8/1/2020: $49,461 (+3,166)
9/1/2020: $51,488 (+2,027)
10/1/2020: $52,753 (+1,265)
11/1/2020: $53,942 (+1,189)
12/1/2020: $56,152 (+2,210)
1/8/2021: $63,512 (+7,360)
2/5/2021: $67,571 (+4,059)
3/3/2021: $70,618 (+3,047)

Almost the entire amount added this month was due to contributions. Cash flowed our roof replacement but replaced the money in savings with our tax refund. Going to keep it there as a small emergency fund. With just our contributions we could get to 100k by December. Im hoping with the markets help to reach it by October.  +24,323 added since ive been tracking. +14,466 this year.

I have to say...bikes are one of the best inventions! Hope you have a great time with your new bicyclette.

Bikes are always a worthy investment along the way to FIRE.

(I say this as I look at increasing the number of bikes I own, hah!)

Way to go @mgardner88

I'm in a similar situation, being very close to $100k, and I am reminding myself that markets will do what they do,
and no matter what my persistence will keep pushing the needle higher.

Keep it up
