Welcome to the party @jiimmy . Good luck on hitting your goal of graduating by 2019!

Thank you for the warm welcome, and I see you're very close to graduating yourself, congrats! Six figures in the red to six figures in the black in just a few years is damn impressive.

@jiimmy even between '11 and '17 that's pretty awesome progress for someone claiming to gooff off and do little paid work. At this pace you'll be graduated in no time!

Thank you! I spent a few years living the RE life before actually being FI :-)

Now I'm focused on getting there for real this time. It feels great watching the NW go in the correct direction!

I'm a little late to the party here. Hope to graduate to the next tread by the end of 2019:

1/1/2011 $7,457.97
1/1/2012 $17,228.76
1/1/2013 $40,480.11
1/1/2014 $39,129.08
1/1/2015 $52,439.23
1/1/2016 $51,321.29
1/1/2017 $40,381.29
1/1/2018 $48,063.59
1/1/2019 $62,472.51
Today, 5/18/2019: ~80k

2013 through 2017 included a lot of goofing off and very little paid work. Grand total of $240k gross earned income from 1/1/2011 through today. Now I'm back to the 9-5 life and making some real progress!

Welcome! Based on YTD growth seems like you're right on track.

March 14, 2019: 91,383.01
March 22, 2019: 96,571.66
April 12, 2019: 99,627.63
April 19, 2019: 100,517.92
May 3, 2019: 100,567.21

May 20, 2019: 98,698.52

And so begins the downward turn, haha.

Good financial news: my dispute with the hospital was successful! All of the medical bills are PAID. And this is good financial news but a little more mixed on the personal side: just about everyone we've had to chase down for RSVPs for our wedding can't come. Fewer people = less money, but my fiance is pretty disappointed that some of the last-minute no folks won't be there.

Thank you!  We are pretty excited.  So long as there are no major fireworks in the market in the next week and a half it will very likely happen this month.

Dec 2017 €14.300
June 2018 €23.300 (+9k over 6 months)
Dec 2018 €35.600 (+13.3k over 6 months)
Jan 2019 €39.000 (+3.400)
Feb 2019 €40.700 (+1.700)
Mar 2019 €42.400 (+1.700)
Apr 2019 €44.900 (+2.500)
May 2019 €46.200 (+1.300)

Double paycheck month, yet my stocks have dropped around €1000 and I prepaid €500 for work travel so it's hard to see it. €50k by next month will be pretty much impossible unless the market bounces back up like crazy, but July/Aug is still feasible!

Well I certainly jinxed it last month.. The market completely wiped out the savings I managed to have this month. I guess in another way of looking at it, I managed to offset a tough market month through some great savings (glass half full).

Goal remains 100k before 2020.

May was a bit spendy making some large donations and purchases in preparation for baby, and markets are doing whatever they're doing. Hoping that come this summer I can officially graduate the thread but we'll see what happens.

April 2019: €10094.35
May 2019:  €11629.87

Goals for 2019:
Savings: €5000
Investments: €10000

Depending on what the market is doing and how cooperative my neighbours are, I might temporarily dip under 10k next month. We need to do some yardwork and fix some fencing. The current fencing was severely damaged in a storm. We've been negotiating with both sets of neighbours for 1,5 years and I think everyone is on board with the plans now, but I'm not entirely sure they'll pay up in the end. We've decided we're going to replace it now and we no longer care whether they help out or pay.

I do not include my savings to buy expensive "fun items" like new cellphone, electronics etc. as it is not very big. My checking account is also not included as it has money I will likely spend this month. Goal for 2019 is to make it to $45K.

Net worth:
Dec2017:$7800
Apr2018:$13,200
Aug2018:$22,800
Sep2018: $23,645
Oct2018: $23,658
Nov2018: $23,948 (+$290)
Dec2018: $23,960 (+12)
Jan2019: $27,100 (+3140)
Feb2019:$29,443 (+2343)
Mar2019: $31,603 (+2160)
Apr2019: $33,959 (+2356)

May-$33,933 (-$26)- I put in the usual amount of money, so I guess stocks must be on sale?

Hello everyone! It is my first time posting in this thread, I just made by way over from the race to $10k thread which I just surpassed.

Here is a basic breakdown of the numbers as of the end of the day today:

Total Cash/Cash Equivalents: $31,642
Total Liabilities: $20,131

Net Worth: $11,511

Virtually all of my liabilities are student loans. I also have some minor balances on my credit cards, which I pay off monthly. I've been aggressively attacking the student loans (see my participation in the student loan challenge if curious) and have made steady progress.

As for asset composition,  20% are in checking accounts, 13% is in my HSA and 67% is in my 401k.

9/29/17 - $11,511 (First post in thread)
6/30/18 - $36,000
7/31/18 - $38,676
8/31/18 - $40,277
9/30/18 - $50,572
10/31/18 - $46,085
11/30/18 - $48,956
12/31/18 - $46,003
1/31/19 - $53,028
2/28/19 - $58,276
3/31/2019 - $67,340
4/30/2019 - $70,674
5/31/2019 - $69,853

May Notes

Trimmed my expenses by $1K from last month, but the bloodbath in the markets resulted in my first negative month since last December. Ohh well.

For context: I'm 29 in a HCOL city. I'm married, but these are my own numbers since we keep our finances separate. Includes cash, retirement, and credit cards, which are used for normal expenses and paid off in full every month.

3/18: $48,533.91
4/18: $53,215.13 (+4,681.22 - extra paycheck)
5/18: $55,433.65 (+2,218.52)
6/18: $57,041.95 (+1,572.27)
7/18: $59,753.49 (+2,711.54)
8/18: $63,816.19 (+4,062.70)
9/18: $70,101.27 (+6,285.08 - extra paycheck)
10/18: $73,538.91 (+3,437.64)
11/18: $69,595.61 (-3,943.30)
12/18: $73,126.64 (+3,531.03)
1/19: $69,733.94 (-2,712.15)
2/19: $78,918.09 (+9,184.15 - extra paycheck)
3/19: $83,762.93 (+4,844.84)
4/19: $86,925.57 (+3,162.64)
5/19: $92,839.14 (+5,913.57)
6/19: $90,415.30 (-2,423.84)

I saved the normal amount this month, but got clobbered in the market. Meh. It'll go back up. I still suspect I'll hit $100k this year, fingers crossed.

Just discovered MMM and this is my first post here. It's really inspiring seeing all the awesome stories here and the healthy mentality about money and spending. I'm not sure what the correct format for here is but i'll just go ahead and splatter all the info that seems pertinent and then update next month and refine over time.

Income - 9,648.82 ( $2430.14 from full time employment / $6618.66 from part time job / $600 in rent )
Spending - $3,028.07

Cash- $8,676.52
401(k)- $16,055.13

Mortgage - $143,320.46 at 3.25 % Interest

Please let me know if you have any tips or tweaks to help me along!

May Data

Income - $3914.39 ( $3314.39 from full time employment / $0.00 from part time job / $600 in rent )
Spending - $3,367.90 (1948.54 From Travel)

Cash- $10,784.35
401(k)- $15,805.27
State Retirement Account - $8,530.54

Mortgage - $143,589.34 at 3.25 % Interest

Total Estimated Net Worth $35,120.16

Some details that stand out from this past month. My part time job (Realtor) produced nothing this month, however I have a couple closings coming up and am well on the way to my yearly goal, so that is fine. My spending IS higher than last month, however there are a few major life expenditures that are catching me at the moment (engagement ring, travel) that actually will cost me around $4,500 over the next two months. All that to say, beyond the actual huge expense of plane tickets my daily spending habits changed from $3,028.07 to 1,419.36 in the month. There were a lot of things I spent money on that were unnecessary but I feel like I've made a HUGE step forward with this spending decrease. Oh also I discovered I had an extra retirement account with $8,530.54 in it... so that was cool :)

See y'all next month.

Odd that your mortgage balance would have gone up month over month. Might wanna double check the may number.

May 2019 Update
3/31/2017 (52,848.85) - Found MMM
3/31/2018 $(14,916.69) - 1 year in
3/31/2019 $9,917.20 - 2 years in
4/30/2019 $19,835.78
5/31/2019 $29,498.65 +9,662.87 increase

June will most likely show a decrease unless the market makes up for the lack of income this month. I'll be heading back to work mid July and I'll be happy to see money coming in and going towards my 401k.

Not a great month.  The only thing that kept me moving in the positive direction was making some larger-than-minimum payments on a loan.  Retirement accounts did go down about $150, but I'm not worried about those yet.

Did a Memorial Day roadtrip. Bought some parts for project car and also finished buying all the parts for 100k mile maintenance on my daily. Expenses were up for wine/food/going out. Also bought camping gear for my upcoming July roadtrip. Quarterly taxes were also paid.

I broke $10,000 on 9/9/2018. I'm up to $25k as of 2/17/2019.

3/20/19: $26,600.

If all goes well i'll be at $30k by Mid May.

On 5/15/19 I will undoubtedly be over 30k (closer to $31-32k) and should continue going up from there!

Well 5/15/19 put me just barely over, and then life continues and the market didn't help me so I went back under. Got paid again at end of month and now with most bills settling in the last 2 days I'm strong set at $30,500 with no large anticipated expenses prior to more paychecks coming in. Given today is looking good >+1% to market. I'm thinking we'll be just fine to staying >30,000!

I've no idea what Optimiser's situation is, but it's possible that they have both large assets and large debts (like if they're counting a mortgage), and the drop therefore represents a much smaller percentage of their assets than of their NW.

Consistent 401k + HSA contributions + an extra paycheck this month, and market decline, hence the drop.  Things were bought on sale.  I'm not worried.  I'm still aiming for an August graduation.. :)

This is correct. My investments themselves were only down 4.5%, but my net worth is lower than my investment balance because of student loans.

Big purchase last month kept my NW from jumping but I’m back on track and ready for the gains!

Only up about $15.5k this year so far so I need to flip it onto high gear and hope for some market gains to make my goals for 2019. I’ve got this, though. Increased my contributions from $400 (rIRA) to $400 + $400 (taxable) since I’m not eligible for a 401k at this job yet. Doing what I can for now.

I should have been able to bank more, seeing as I had my holiday bonus. Truth is, I had a horrible few weeks personally - I've been out sick for 7 weeks now. So I had some fun with my bonus. Mind, I'd already allocated my bonus, I was going to divide it between a small extra mortgage payments and a big portion investing. Instead I gave up control and let it hang loose. I've been doing some retail therapy... new phone, vacuum, sun screen for my living room... it was 'necessary' in the sense that my old phone was broken and the screen and vacuum were near breaking. But I did buy the nicer, more expensive version than I normally would have. Hellooo Dyson stick vacuum. I did order a lot of food instead of cooking. Also on the list: 600 in donations and gifts. Not necessary... but damn it felt nice.

Still ahead, but significantly less than I wanted to be. I could've been over 99k now. To curb my spending, I did make an extra mortgage payment of 2500. Far from a perfect month, but whatever.

Gonna pat myself on the back because: 1) I have saved diligently for years so I can blow 2k and still come out ahead. 2) my frugality muscle is so well trained that I 'splurged' on items that I truly needed to replace, just got the nicer version, so that's only a small face punch. Yes, yes, punch me for ordering food, I deserve that. 3) Splurged with donations, also still did an extra mortgage payment. Can't face punch myself for that. 4) I let go of control of my spending in a miserable month, don't really beat myself up about it.

Sorry for rambling... point is: it'll be fine, it was refreshing to give up control.

All in all you're still doing well @Nederstash and you'll be at 100k soon enough. Imo a Dyson is truly worth the money - I think it's the most expensive appliance in my house and one of the few I bought new but I've had it for 4 years now and it's still just as good as the first time I used IT. Usually vacuums become less powerful over time. I expect it to last a lot more years.

Yup! A big part of that is that we've paid off just shy of 20k in student loan debt since January (the last 3,888.78 will be gone soon).  And we've still been pushing some into tax advantaged accounts so that's helped slow down the decrease from the market correction.  It helps to have a wife who shares my frugality, a big income, and a high savings rate.

I broke $10,000 on 9/9/2018. I'm up to $25k as of 2/17/2019.

With my paycheck tomorrow and the recent gains in market i'm around 32650 after a few minor expenses are paid out in the next few days. So 4 months since 25k and i'm at 32650. A change of 7650 / 4 is about 1912 a month.

Well this was a surprise to see this morning. Although we're a little heavy on the cash side right now and we have some significant purchases coming up that will deplete our funds over the next couple weeks. I'll probably stay in this thread until after next paycheck (or two) to see where we've truly netted out and to make sure we're actually ready fo the next race.

Either way, we're pretty stoked to have seen 100k NW for the first time ever!
