Another month in the right direction!

My N/W went up by £1,378.59, which is one of my best months.  This has put me just over the £18k mark.

I've opened a Vanguard ISA this month and increased my investments now that I've hit my savings targets.  I've also hit the target bank size for my side hustle (matched betting) which means I can withdraw more money and invest it moving forwards.

Hi All! I just finished the race to $10K so I'm jumping in here :) I've been anxiously awaiting my time to join this thread.

Starting post
3/31/2017 (52,848.85) - Found MMM
3/31/2018 $(14,916.69) - 1 year in
3/31/20919 $9,917.20 - 2 years in
4/10/2019 $10,440.08

According to my current calculations I will spend about 2 years in this race, though I think it could be faster once momentum from all my little employees picks up. I'm already starting to see this.

Great to have you in this thread!!  The race to 10k'ers are taking over!

October 7, 2018 = $600
October 18, 2018 = $2500
November 1, 2018 = $5,995
November 15, 2018 = $9,273
November 29, 2018 = $11,340
December 13, 2018 = $13,155
December 25, 2018 = $15,396
January 26, 2019 = $78,191 (Added our 401Ks into the mix)
February 9, 2019 = $80,723.72
February 14, 2019 = $81,500.07
February 22, 2019 = $84,426.22
March 8, 2019 = 91581.06
March 24, 2019 = 96640.33
April 6, 2019 = 99886.50
April 13, 2019 = 100,325.68

Is this even real? We went from $54,000 in our 401ks that we had been contributing for 15 plus years in October to almost doubling our savings/investments in roughly a 6 month period. Unreal! I would have never thought it would be possible. You guys are the best! Seriously, the advice all of you give is above the highest economists in the world's advice, and you give it all away for free! Thanks again, ya'll. See you in the next thread.

Well done!

You don't increase your N/W as quickly as you have without putting some serious effort into it.  You'll be FIRE'd in no time!

I'm at 67k today! Started saving/investing seriously exactly 2 years ago, when I had about 5-10k. I expect I will hit 100k right before my next birthday at 28 (about 11 months) if I sell my car.

I've driven my car a total of 5 times the past year, so that's looking more and more likely, especially since my next apartment is right by the subway and doesn't have parking. I just really need to convince myself it's okay to do, I've never not had a car since I was 16 :O.

Congrats! I just turned 28 too. I'm in the same dilemma I put a total of 500 miles (most of which were people borrowing it) on my car last year. Living in a city with car2go's everywhere it makes less and less sense to hold on to it.

Thanks! Update on this one: I sold my car in December and put it all in VTSAX right as the market was at it's lowest in years (dumb luck). That plus increased salary/savings and market growth means I am at 99k now! I expect I'll hit 100k in the next paycheck if market holds flat, or 2-3 paychecks if it takes a dip. In either scenario, I'll be at 100k NW a month before my 28th birthday!

Brokerage - 22,223
IRA - 18,680
Roth IRA - 33,212
401k - 17,550
Cash - 7,500

Found MMM 3 years ago, been working full-time for 5 years, was frugal for all 5 but didn't realize the power of investing until after MMM.

Next goal after that is probably getting a MFH property and becoming a land lord. That's taking a lot of research first to make sure I find the right property.

07/27/18: $71,676.31
08/23/18: $65,034.83

01/28/18: $64,688.44
03/25/19: $63,325.75

Skipped a month. In the last 2 months, did my taxes, I was close on pre-payment but had to paid some more. Also, did the Costa Rica vacation and some work around the house. First 2019 tax pre-payment was sent out. Major expenses were Costa Rica vacation and the work I did on my GTI for a roadtrip to Montana.

04/24/19: $65,022.87

Didn't have much expenses this month so I booked future planned trips, hotels, tickets and entertainment since the CC was lower than usual.

Just discovered MMM and this is my first post here. It's really inspiring seeing all the awesome stories here and the healthy mentality about money and spending. I'm not sure what the correct format for here is but i'll just go ahead and splatter all the info that seems pertinent and then update next month and refine over time.

Income - 9,648.82 ( $2430.14 from full time employment / $6618.66 from part time job / $600 in rent )
Spending - $3,028.07

Cash- $8,676.52
401(k)- $16,055.13

Mortgage - $143,589.34 at 3.25 % Interest

Please let me know if you have any tips or tweaks to help me along!

Have to admit, getting told you owe thousands more in taxes and not having to scramble for it is SUCH a relief!  Love the lessons I've learned here even if I will be more careful not to get into the same situation next year (self-employed and made much more than I normally do)

Dec 2017 €14.300
June 2018 €23.300 (+9k over 6 months)
July 2018 €24.400 (+1.100)
Aug 2018 €25.700 (+1.300)
Sept 2018 €26.100 (+400)
Oct 2018 €26.100 (+0)
Nov 2018 €29.100 (+3.000!!)
Dec 2018 €35.600 (+6.500)
Jan 2019 €39.000 (+3.400)
Feb 2019 €40.700 (+1.700)
Mar 2019 €42.400 (+1.700)
Apr 2019 €44.900 (+2.500)

Great market month + fairly low spending. First month of the year without any big line items like travel or one-offs. About 1500 is actual savings, the other 1000 is a great month for stocks. Next month is a double paycheck month for me so it looks like I'll be able to hit 50k by June, assuming no market drops.

I do not include my savings to buy expensive "fun items" like new cellphone, electronics etc. as it is not very big. My checking account is also not included as it has money I will likely spend this month. Goal for 2019 is to make it to $45K.

Net worth:
Dec2017:$7800
Apr2018:$13,200
Aug2018:$22,800
Sep2018: $23,645
Oct2018: $23,658
Nov2018: $23,948 (+$290)
Dec2018: $23,960 (+12)
Jan2019: $27,100 (+3140)
Feb2019:$29,443 (+2343)
Mar2019: $31,603 (+2160)
Apr2019: $33,959 (+2356)- Another good savings month, if this keeps up I should meet my end of year goal! Its amazing for me to think I am up almost $20K for a year seeing as I made/will make less than 50K a year.

After spending almost two years in the Saving to 10k thread, I have officially graduated to this thread! :)

April 2019: €10094.35

Goals for 2019:
Savings: €5000
Investments: €10000

I'm on a low-ish income compared to many on MMM, but I've increased my income by 50% since I started to track my savings 2 years ago, so I'm getting there! I don't personally track my net worth but my savings + investments instead. We bought our home during a real estate dip and we're now in a bubble where prices go up by 10% a year. We already live in a very cheap and small home so the only way we could ever release this equity is by selling up and moving into a tent. As we're not planning on doing that anytime soon, I don't want to distort my numbers by adding the value of our home.

Investments and cash were up this month and my loan balances are lower, but Zillow dropped the value of my house by a lot so my overall net worth is off some.

For context: I'm 29 in a HCOL city. I'm married, but these are my own numbers since we keep our finances separate. Includes cash, retirement, and credit cards, which are used for normal expenses and paid off in full every month.

3/18: $48,533.91
4/18: $53,215.13 (+4,681.22 - extra paycheck)
5/18: $55,433.65 (+2,218.52)
6/18: $57,041.95 (+1,572.27)
7/18: $59,753.49 (+2,711.54)
8/18: $63,816.19 (+4,062.70)
9/18: $70,101.27 (+6,285.08 - extra paycheck)
10/18: $73,538.91 (+3,437.64)
11/18: $69,595.61 (-3,943.30)
12/18: $73,126.64 (+3,531.03)
1/19: $69,733.94 (-2,712.15)
2/19: $78,918.09 (+9,184.15 - extra paycheck)
3/19: $83,762.93 (+4,844.84)
4/19: $86,925.57 (+3,162.64)
5/19: $92,839.14 (+5,913.57)

Very happy with this month's progress. My spending was pretty low and the market was kind. Hopefully I will hit $100k in the next few months!

I also think it's crazy how much more my net worth is going up per month compared to this time last year. I think it's partly improvement in my spending, but also shows the power of having a lot in the market! More growth potential.

April 2019 Update
3/31/2017 (52,848.85) - Found MMM
3/31/2018 $(14,916.69) - 1 year in
3/31/2019 $9,917.20 - 2 years in
4/30/2019 $19,835.78 +9,918.58 increase

Baby Puglet has arrived and Maternity leave has started. I will be without income for a little while until my Short Term Disability kicks in so I imagine May is going to have a much smaller increase than most months.

Hello everyone! It is my first time posting in this thread, I just made by way over from the race to $10k thread which I just surpassed.

Here is a basic breakdown of the numbers as of the end of the day today:

Total Cash/Cash Equivalents: $31,642
Total Liabilities: $20,131

Net Worth: $11,511

Virtually all of my liabilities are student loans. I also have some minor balances on my credit cards, which I pay off monthly. I've been aggressively attacking the student loans (see my participation in the student loan challenge if curious) and have made steady progress.

As for asset composition,  20% are in checking accounts, 13% is in my HSA and 67% is in my 401k.

9/29/17 - $11,511 (First post in thread)
6/30/18 - $36,000
7/31/18 - $38,676
8/31/18 - $40,277
9/30/18 - $50,572
10/31/18 - $46,085
11/30/18 - $48,956
12/31/18 - $46,003
1/31/19 - $53,028
2/28/19 - $58,276
3/31/2019 - $67,340
4/30/2019 - $70,674.39

April Notes

Waaaay too spendy this month. Need to rein in during May.

April 2019 Update
3/31/2017 (52,848.85) - Found MMM
3/31/2018 $(14,916.69) - 1 year in
3/31/2019 $9,917.20 - 2 years in
4/30/2019 $19,835.78 +9,918.58 increase

Baby Puglet has arrived and Maternity leave has started. I will be without income for a little while until my Short Term Disability kicks in so I imagine May is going to have a much smaller increase than most months.

Puglet! That's glorious! Congratulations!

I broke $10,000 on 9/9/2018. I'm up to $25k as of 2/17/2019.

3/20/19: $26,600.

If all goes well i'll be at $30k by Mid May.

I sold some RSU's that weren't previously included in my NW calculation, and with a couple other small items (depositing gold dollars and getting a new bank account bonus) I will be at $30k. On 5/15/19 I will undoubtedly be over 30k (closer to $31-32k) and should continue going up from there!

Major congratulations on the puglet, @haypug16 !

March 14, 2019: 91,383.01
March 22, 2019: 96,571.66
April 12, 2019: 99,627.63
April 19, 2019: 100,517.92

May 3, 2019: 100,567.21

I'm only still in six figures because I updated a bunch of retirement accounts, which I only do erratically. I'll be out of the six figure club for a good long while as of the next update in, because that's when final payments for wedding vendors are going to start coming due.

Still managing the medical stuff without totally zeroing out my medical sinking fund, which has been good. I had put on my big girl pants to dispute some charges with my provider--any tips for managing US medical fuckery would be welcome. This is the first time as an adult that I've ever needed something more complicated than an annual well-woman exam or a round of antibiotics.

There was a choosefi podcast that had someone on who negotiated much of his medical debt down by disputing individual line items (like a $10 roll of TP). Might be worth a listen.

Dec-2016: $32,870.70
Dec-2017: $58,271.55   (+ 25,400.85)
Dec-2018: $72,493.16   (+ 14,221.61)

Jan-2019:    $81,866.77  (+ 9,373.61)
Feb-2019:   $87,222.31  (+ 5,355.54)
Mar-2019:   $88,865.95 (+ 1,643.64)

Apr-2019:   $93,050.94  (+ 4,184.99)

April was mostly just 401k + HSA contributions, and market growth.  I'm hoping that by August, I'll reach the $100K club (July is a stretch goal).  :)

One other super exciting thing as I look at these numbers: from Dec 2016 to Dec 2017, I grew about $25K.  From Dec 2018 to now (4 months), it's a positive change of over $20,500.  So I'm close to achieving what took me 1 year back then in about a half a year now.  Wow does that compounding snowball really matter!!  (And also increasing the pre-tax contributions ;) )

Thanks, will check that out! My situation seems clear-cut (to me, a non-medical professional) and hopefully would not require that level of wizardry...but I'm sure there's a lot I could learn from that discussion.

And it looks like there's some great progress in this thread--lots of folks who should be getting there in the next couple of months!

Jan 2019: 49,400
Feb 2019: 52,900
Mar 2019: 55,500
Apr 2019: 59,500

May 2019: 61,100 (+1600)

I hit some slowed momentum in April, but hoping to do better this month.

Lately, we've been spending a lot of time and money on the yard because when we moved into our house at the end of September, we had to have our backyard dug up to replace our sewer line. Now that it's springtime, we're buying weekly truckloads of topsoil/compost and bags of grass seed to try and get things functional and looking nice (a giant mud pit of a backyard with two preschoolers is no fun!). These expenses should subside soon so we can get back on track. And the bright side, I discovered that I really enjoy spending the weekends outside working in the yard.

Congrats @twistedfirestarter @politenessman and @katthjul for making it over the hump this month! Super inspiring!

I'm a little late to the party here. Hope to graduate to the next tread by the end of 2019:

1/1/2011 $7,457.97
1/1/2012 $17,228.76
1/1/2013 $40,480.11
1/1/2014 $39,129.08
1/1/2015 $52,439.23
1/1/2016 $51,321.29
1/1/2017 $40,381.29
1/1/2018 $48,063.59
1/1/2019 $62,472.51
Today, 5/18/2019: ~80k

2013 through 2017 included a lot of goofing off and very little paid work. Grand total of $240k gross earned income from 1/1/2011 through today. Now I'm back to the 9-5 life and making some real progress!

@jiimmy even between '11 and '17 that's pretty awesome progress for someone claiming to gooff off and do little paid work. At this pace you'll be graduated in no time!
