6/30: 5828.16$
8/1:   15412.83$ (+9586.67$)
8/31: 19351.65$ (+3938.82$)
9/31: 25450$ (+6099$)
11/1: 29805$ (+4355$)
12/3: 35490$ (+5685$)
1/3:   41338$ (+5848$)

Reached my goal of 40k! Very happy with that :) Goal for 2019 is to pass 100k, it should absolutely be possible. The biggest challenge is that I and DW will take out unpaid leave to stay home with our newborn son. Still, I think we should manage :)

October 7, 2018 = $600
October 18, 2018 = $2500
November 1, 2018 = $5,995
November 15, 2018 = $9,273
November 29, 2018 = $11,340
December 13, 2018 = $13,155
December 25, 2018 = $15,396

Okay, now I am making a few adjustments by adding my 401K totals into the mix. For a long time I have not been checking mine or my wife`s balance and have been doing company match for several years now. After taking advice from a bunch of different places, we are making some changes. From a couple of weeks back until now we have set our 401k deductions much higher to hit that $19,000 employee limit for each of us each year. I am estimating 31% of my paycheck and my wife`s is 38%. I am also setting aside an emergency fund of at least 6 months. Which will be roughly $10,000. I will keep it in our totals in each update though. Just to make things simpler in keeping count of our tally. I`ll be adding HSA as well. Now, comes the exciting part.

January 13, 2019 =

401K:
Me = $37,326.95
Wife = $25,337.03
Brokerage = $11,674.24
Emergency savings = $8300

Total =
$82,638.22

Wow, what a nice surpise when you finally checked your balances!! Looks like you'll be moving on by mid-year!

To be fair though, Most of the 401k balances came from 15-18 previous years of passive small amounts from our bi-weekly pay. We started getting slightly more aggressive(6%) in the last 3 years. In combination to our brokerage and upping our 401k by a huge amount, things are going to be more interesting from here on out. 10 years(2019) is our goal, but we`ll probably be able to FIRE before then. I don`t want to FIRE earlier though. Unless we end up doing much better then my yearly hopeful expectations(+5%). 10 years will put us over 1 Million which is my goal. I don`t want to touch our 401K until at the earliest my wife`s, but that won`t be until 13 years. She is older than me(46), and we plan on drawing only 2% yearly(her 401K) once she turns 59 1/2 while drawing 2-3% from brokerage. My 401K won`t be touched for 21 years(I`m 38 now). That is fine because we should live fine off of the other two sources of income, plus whichever side jobs we may take when we FI. We have high goals in mind. Even if we only reach 75% or even 50%, it should be a pretty large amount compared to what we would have if we did nothing. Thanks @M5 !

P.S. I am sure to make adjustments to our plans. I am still learning the details about converting TIRA to a Roth. Mad Fientist is awesome!

Sounds like you have some pretty solid goals! My wife and I constantly struggle on whether we want to continue doing jobs we don't enjoy that have killer benefits or just pull the plug in a few years. We could make it work either way but would definitely be forced to work in some capacity for several extra years if we quit what we're doing currently. I'm getting ready to turn 26, her 25 and if we continue until I'm 45 I can retire with free family medical for life and a minimum pension of about 30k/yr, possibly more. By that point our combined traditional TSP/401k balances should exceed $2M. Other than not enjoying our jobs, the rest of our lives could be a breeze financially.... tough decision

Wow, definitely tough decision! I work the type of job most hate(retail), but I have gotten more to liking it over the last year or so. Definitely more in the last 4 or 5 months since this journey to FIRE began. I actually feel motivated to work harder and to try to get the most overtime that I can while I can. In turn, my reputation has gained significantly. My higher up boss says that he knows that I am not a waste of money when it comes to allowing me overtime. By far, the biggest compliment that I have gotten on my job. He is even allowing me to have overtime during this slow time of the year. What helps motivate me the most though is trying to stay positive even during stressful events. So, keep positive. Keep doing what you do for as long as you can stand it. The rewards will multiply the longer you persevere, my friend.

End of July NW: 84,495
End of Year projected NW: 104,324
End of August NW: 88,430.58
End of Year projected NW: 105,233.73

End of September NW: 90,725.77
End of Year Projected NW: 105,847.91

Definitely a rougher month for me expense wise. Had $700 of work expenses that I covered up front, $750 in car repairs, weekend trips to Chicago and Toronto, and the girlfriend's birthday dinner/night out.

October should set up to be a nice month - very little out of the ordinary expenses, work expense reimbursement, and ~$1200 in net bonuses.
November should also be a nice month. Raise will go into effect beginning 11/1 and its a 3 paycheck month. Goal is now to hit 100k effective 11/30.
End of October NW: 92,808.68
End of Year Projected NW: 103,981.71

Bleh stock market.
End of November NW: 98,999.81
End of Year Projected NW: 103,693.80
Lot of money moving around right now being end of year, so its hard to get a to-dollar amount. However for purposes of tracking:

End of December NW: 98,000.

Sucks man.

Checked my numbers today and it looks like I've graduated! $101,635!

Keep up the hard work everyone. I'll be seeing you all in the race to $250k thread before we know it!

20 Dec 18 - 37,800
16 Jan 18 - 39,900

A bit disappointing but not too bad considering it's holidays season, I got a quarterly tax bill and paid 6 months gym membership upfront.
Will hit 40k next month!

I think I forgot to update last paycheck. I'm on track to be debt-free by the end of the first quarter this year. In the meantime, shoving $800/mo into my IRA and paying down the last of my debt which is all at 0%. I'll be interested to see how much progress I make by 3/15/19, since it will have been exactly one year from joining this thread!

Dec 2017 €14.300
June 2018 €23.300 (+9k over 6 months)
July 2018 €24.400 (+1.100)
Aug 2018 €25.700 (+1.300)
Sept 2018 €26.100 (+400)
Oct 2018 €26.100 (+0)
Nov 2018 €29.100 (+3.000!!)
Dec 2018 €35.600 (+6.500)
Jan 2019 €39.000 (+3.400)

No clue how I managed to save so much this month. It was a good one for business, stocks went back up, salary is increased and tax cuts were introduced so all together it adds up I guess? Seems like I'm gonna be able to hit €40k next month!

Thanks! I have to admit that the big december jump came from a windfal (old savings account set up by parents when I was a baby) but yes, November and January have both been pretty amazing! I was actually quite surprised when I added up the numbers today. My net salary is still only 2k/month :p.

Dec-2016: $32,870.70
Dec-2017: $58,271.55   (+ 25,400.85)
Dec-2018: $72,493.16   (+ 14,221.61)

The market drop helped me buy more shares at a cheaper price at the end of the year.  While my net worth isn’t where I thought it would be (ended November over $75K), the lower number now means I’ll grow greater later (ideally).  [Will this year be the year I reach 100K?  I hope so!]

October 7, 2018 = $600
October 18, 2018 = $2500
November 1, 2018 = $5,995
November 15, 2018 = $9,273
November 29, 2018 = $11,340
December 13, 2018 = $13,155
December 25, 2018 = $15,396

January 13, 2019 =
401K:
Me = $37,326.95
Wife = $25,337.03
Brokerage = $11,674.24
Emergency savings = $8300

January 26, 2019 =
401K:
Me = $39,050
Wife = $26,676
Brokerage = $12,465.85
Emergency savings = $12,000? I`ve got some precious metals from years past for a really rainy day. Not sure of total value. Guesstimate is $4K or so. I bought them over ten years ago and they lost value. They were worth double that at one point. Originally I wasn`t going to add it to the tally, but what the heck. It puts me physically and psychologically in the mind to reach that $100,000 current goal. Honestly, I`ll feel more accomplishment reaching $100K in 401K and brokerage accounts.

Total for accounts = $78,191
Total Total = $90,091

Very happy with this December, spending was at the minimal but it was also a fun month.

01/28/18: $64,688.44

An unexpected month. First, had to buy a last minute airplane ticket to fly out to my uncles funeral. A few weeks later, booked airplane tickets to Costa Rica for a vacation, within a couple of days booked the hotels and rental car. Also did my last 2018 tax prepayment.

Awesome, nice work!  We'll see you in the 100-250k thread in no time.

Aug 18$20.8k
Sept 18$22.2k
Oct 18$21.7k
Nov 18$22.5k
Dec 18$22.4k

Jan 19: $24.7k

I spent like crazy this month, but between the market and a bank bonus, you can't tell. The crazy spending was in pursuit of a credit card bonus, and consists mostly of car expenses (pre-paying insurance, registration fees, oil change) and $650 worth of plane tickets - $250 of which will be credited back to me, but that has yet to materialize.

I am TANTALIZINGLY close to $25k, and in fact have technically hit it already, but I have subtracted out the rent payment that's about to hit my account. Gotta keep it consistent. I did hit 5% of 25x expenses in my investment accounts, though!

ETA: I got 2.5 paychecks this month. I get paid tomorrow (2/1) but paychecks show up in my brokerage a day early. I'll make up the other half a paycheck on the last day of February, and then get 2.5 in March as well. This also contributed to my big gain despite big spending.

Dec '19 goal: $40k

For context: I'm 29 in a HCOL city. I'm married, but these are my own numbers since we keep our finances separate. Includes cash, retirement, and credit cards, which are used for normal expenses and paid off in full every month.

3/18: $48,533.91
4/18: $53,215.13 (+4,681.22 - extra paycheck)
5/18: $55,433.65 (+2,218.52)
6/18: $57,041.95 (+1,572.27)
7/18: $59,753.49 (+2,711.54)
8/18: $63,816.19 (+4,062.70)
9/18: $70,101.27 (+6,285.08 - extra paycheck)
10/18: $73,538.91 (+3,437.64)
11/18: $69,595.61 (-3,943.30)
12/18: $73,126.64 (+3,531.03)
1/19: $69,733.94 (-2,712.15)
2/19: $78,918.09 (+9,184.15 - extra paycheck)

I don't have plans to spend anything today, so it's close enough to the 2/1 balance. Huge gains this month between the market, an extra paycheck, and lower-than-average spending. My goal is to graduate the thread by the end of the year. I will definitely make it based on expected contributions; only reason I wouldn't is the market taking another tumble.

9/31: $25450 (+$6099)
11/1: $29805 (+$4355)
12/3: $35490 (+$5685)
1/3:   $41338 (+$5848)

Goal December 2019: $100k

Crazy month for my part. Salary increased and I got refunded for the higher salary since June last year. On track for my goal, but challenges coming up due to both me and DW will take unpaid leave from work to stay home with our son.

Great job everyone!

November 2018 - $20,523
December 2018 - $20,923

January 2019 - $21,742

Thankful for the market rebounding, otherwise it would have been a bad month for me.  I spent a lot of cash this month on car maintenance, vet bills, and plane tickets.  My progress is slower than most, but I'm just going to keep at it.

1st of November '18: 11,582
1st of December '18: 12,725
22nd of December' 18: 15,003

Last paycheck of the year included travel and commuting reimbursement as well as small 13th month. Hitting 15k in 2018 certainly feels like a mini milestone!
This is the last time I'll be tracking my private funds, as BF and me decided to pool all our resources from now on.

Joint NW Dec 18:  60,233

Joint NW Dec 18: 60,233
Joint NW Jan 19: 60,094

Rather static, which is actually a good thing for now. Savings will go down after next month due to closing costs, about 12k.

This includes all our retirement and personal accounts for assets. It includes our credit cards, student loan, and mortgage for liabilities. It DOES NOT include our home value.

We were at $80k until I went and paid the rent last night. Hopefully graduation day is pretty close now - my bonus gets paid this month, which should help.

I do not include my savings to buy expensive "fun items" like new cellphone, electronics etc. as it is not very big, and I just started it in July. My checking account is also not included as it has money I will likely spend this month. Money in retirement accounts that is not vested is also not included. Part of the big jump in between April and August is that part of my 401K vested 20%.  My savings rate will probably be higher next year, as I am looking for a new job in a lower cost of living area, or if I keep my current job, the 401k match goes up to 6% for 4.5%.

Net worth:
Dec2017:$7800
Apr2018:$13,200
Aug2018:$22,800
Sep2018: $23,645
Oct2018: $23,658
Nov2018: $23,948 (+$290)
Dec2018: $23,960 (+12)

Jan2019: $27,100 (+3140)
Most of the gains are due to the fact that my 401K went from 20% vested to 100% vested. There might be another small jump next month when my HSA gets all its paperwork together, but this will be the last big jump for a while. Slow and steady it is. Goal for 2019 is to make it to $45K.

Hello everyone! It is my first time posting in this thread, I just made by way over from the race to $10k thread which I just surpassed.

Here is a basic breakdown of the numbers as of the end of the day today:

Total Cash/Cash Equivalents: $31,642
Total Liabilities: $20,131

Net Worth: $11,511

Virtually all of my liabilities are student loans. I also have some minor balances on my credit cards, which I pay off monthly. I've been aggressively attacking the student loans (see my participation in the student loan challenge if curious) and have made steady progress.

As for asset composition,  20% are in checking accounts, 13% is in my HSA and 67% is in my 401k.

June ended around 36,000 (estimate, was too busy to exactly keep track). July ends with my NW up to $38,676.

Happy with my progress, though I've been spendier than I should.  On a plus side, it looks like I'll be taking a new job which should see a ~20% bump in pay, plus a nice sign on bonus. So my NW should begin to grow more quickly! Ohh and my commute will be dropping from 42 miles down to 2.5 miles! As a result I'll be saving a ton on gas and wear and tear on my car.

9/29/17 - $11,511 (First post in thread)
6/30/18 - $36,000
7/31/18 - $38,676
8/31/18 - $40,277
9/30/18 - $50,572
10/31/18 - $46,085
11/30/18 - $48,956
12/31/18 - $46,003
1/31/19 - $53,028

January Notes

That's more like it! With the holidays over I was able to avoid major expenses, though I did pay close to $900 in medical bills for DD, otherwise the month would have been even stronger.
