Unavoidable large expenses coming up this month, as well as going to visit family and I just had over two weeks off which will now catch up with me. Am trying to add a few shifts here & there to account for part of it but might have a dip into savings unless I can really pick it up a couple of notches!

End of September update

8/31/18: $12,784
9/17/18: $14,547
9/28/18: $$22,476

A couple positive things gave us a bump this month (and going into next month). DH got a bonus and will be getting a raise that takes effect starting in the next month. I will likely get a small bonus as well next month. So progress!

Hello, there! I just graduated out of the 0 to 10k group, so thought I'd join here. With current income and spending I'm guessing it'll take me 10 years to reach 100k. Let's try to speed it up a bit.

I take home around 1800 euros a month (income's a bit variable: sometimes 1700, sometimes 2100 euros)
My spending hovers around 1000 euros a month, which leaves me 800 to save up and invest. Currently saving up for a house, but also investing for long term gains.

Me and my partner share some expenses and save up for those together on a seperate bank account. I'll just track my private assets in this thread.

Current NW: 12,056 k

I've been using Personal Capital to track our net work for a few months, this will be a fun place to keep track and more importantly keep ourselves on the saving path!  I've only used the site to factor investment/retirement accounts against mortgage and car loan balance, I have cash set aside for home improvements\emergency so I didn't want that money to show a inflated NW, also have not used homes value to factor into the calculation.

1/1/2018:   $38,800
2/1/2018:   $49,800
3/1/2018:   $55,707
4/1/2018:   $64,352
5/1/2018:   $68,097
6/1/2018:   $72,976
7/1/2018:   $80,555
8/1/2018:   $85,858
9/1/2018:   $90,137
10/1/2018: $93,806

This month I focused on asset allocation, and I think I've got something that I'm comfortable going forward with.  Next month my goal is to finalize my investment policy statement.  I did some analysis and realized that I'm paying very little in taxes, and so I'm going to make all my retirement contributions Roth from here on out.  Also, I liquidated the 529s I had with USAA and moved that money into VTSAX at Vanguard, so now all my investments are in low-cost index funds.

Welcome to all the newcomers!

Haha yeah...that's what discovering the FIRE concept will do.  Pre MMM, 10 years of working = $38k of savings.  Post MMM, 10 months of working = $55k of savings.

You have saved more this year than I make in a year!  (By a good amount!)  That's amazing!  You should be super proud of yourself.

Hello everyone! It is my first time posting in this thread, I just made by way over from the race to $10k thread which I just surpassed.

Here is a basic breakdown of the numbers as of the end of the day today:

Total Cash/Cash Equivalents: $31,642
Total Liabilities: $20,131

Net Worth: $11,511

Virtually all of my liabilities are student loans. I also have some minor balances on my credit cards, which I pay off monthly. I've been aggressively attacking the student loans (see my participation in the student loan challenge if curious) and have made steady progress.

As for asset composition,  20% are in checking accounts, 13% is in my HSA and 67% is in my 401k.

June ended around 36,000 (estimate, was too busy to exactly keep track). July ends with my NW up to $38,676.

Happy with my progress, though I've been spendier than I should.  On a plus side, it looks like I'll be taking a new job which should see a ~20% bump in pay, plus a nice sign on bonus. So my NW should begin to grow more quickly! Ohh and my commute will be dropping from 42 miles down to 2.5 miles! As a result I'll be saving a ton on gas and wear and tear on my car.

9/29/17 - $11,511 (First post in thread)
6/30/18 - $36,000
7/31/18 - $38,676
8/31/18 - $40,277
9/30/18 - $50,572

September Notes

Halfway there! Wish my progress could be this good every month! I get paid once per month on the 1st, however my October check was deposited into my account yesterday so I wound up with a two paycheck month.

Thanks! I’m fortunate to have a good income, low taxes, and a SO who is on board, which begs the question of where all that money has gone in the years prior to this one.  Oh well, here’s to a prosperous future for all of us!

Welcome @Spruit! And congrats @LittleWanderer and @lexde for hitting new 10k markers!

Jul 17$6.2k
Aug 17$6.8k
Sept 17$8.2k
Oct 17$9.0k
Nov 17$9.9k
Dec 17$11.1k
Jan 18$12.1k
Feb 18$13.6k
Mar 18$15.1k
Apr 18$16.6k
May 18$17.7k
Jun 18$18.5k
Jul 18$20.2k
Aug 18$20.8k

Sept 18: $22.2k

And that's including paying a new housing deposit before (hopefully) getting the old one back! Shooting for $25k by the end of the year, and hoping the international trip in December doesn't impede that goal too much.

On the subject of the difference MMM makes... I started grad school in August 2015. First year, I saved $1,600. Second year, I saved $5,800, which I thought was pretty impressively frugal. Third year, I discovered MMM, got a $3k raise, and saved almost $14,000, representing 42% of my income. It's weird how much of this seems obvious now that wasn't obvious such a short time ago.

P.S. Upon entering my info into the spreadsheet, it appears that this month represents exactly double my NW at the start of 2018. (In the record above I've tracked the ends of months, so the Dec 17 number is also the January 1st 2018 number.) I was hoping to double it within the year and I'm blowing that goal out of the water. Onward!

This includes all our retirement and personal accounts for assets. It includes our credit cards, student loan, and mortgage for liabilities. It DOES NOT include our home value.

April 2018 - $52,917.42
May 2018  - $58,400.19
June 2018 - $59,686.34
July 2018  - $65,798.53
Aug 2018 - $72,231.70
Sept 2018 - $76,755.71

Our credit card debt is now down to about $7,000. We are rocking those things. Once those are paid off, we will be able to really start piling money into are retirement accounts. Probably will be able to make it to $100k by about March.

End of July NW: 84,495
End of Year projected NW: 104,324
End of August NW: 88,430.58
End of Year projected NW: 105,233.73
End of September NW: 90,725.77
End of Year Projected NW: 105,847.91

Definitely a rougher month for me expense wise. Had $700 of work expenses that I covered up front, $750 in car repairs, weekend trips to Chicago and Toronto, and the girlfriend's birthday dinner/night out.

October should set up to be a nice month - very little out of the ordinary expenses, work expense reimbursement, and ~$1200 in net bonuses.
November should also be a nice month. Raise will go into effect beginning 11/1 and its a 3 paycheck month. Goal is now to hit 100k effective 11/30.

Bit slower, but for a good reason. I've been pressuring my parents to let me repay a loan to them. I borrowed some money when I was doing 2 Master degrees at the same time and not working. My parents wrote it down and told me to forget about it until they both passed and it'd be subtracted from the inheritance. Very nice, of course, but it's been niggling in the back of my mind for years. Now that my parents are retired, they're careful with money because they don't know if/when it will run out (it won't, I'm sure! Try telling them that). So after months of bartering, they're letting me pay it back. Poor souls feel bad about it too. Sometime's they're too good for this world.

I'm paying it back a couple hundred euro a month, so progress will be a bit slower. On the other hand, my house value flew up, I could easily add 50k networth, but I'm careful, the bubble might burst! And the value is completely intangible right now, so no use to me to inflate my numbers.

Hello! I am new to MMM. I'm 28, recently married, and we maintain separate finances. The goal is to be in a strong financial position to maintain flexibility in the future, not necessarily RE. I have a job that I love with amazing benefits, so I am not in a hurry to retire. But as you all know, that could always change.

I have always lived below my means in that I have never held any debt, but I've never really saved. I was a grad student living on a lean stipend in a HCOL city until a year and a half ago. I'm still in the same HCOL city, but now I have a real salary, a defined contribution retirement plan, and access to 403b and 457 accounts.

Current net worth: $48,533.91
Breakdown below...
Cash: $17,747.04
Retirement plan: $18,702.39
403b: $679.16 (Just opened this 1/1/18)
Roth IRA: $11,736.04 (Did not open this until 2016 tax year)
Credit card: -$330.72 (Use this for normal expenses, pay off in full every month)

I was over $50k a week ago, but of course the stock market is going down at the moment. Shares on sale!

3/18: $48,533.91
4/18: $53,215.13 (+4,681.22 - extra paycheck)
5/18: $55,433.65 (+2,218.52)
6/18: $57,041.95 (+1,572.27)
7/18: $59,753.49 (+2,711.54)
8/18: $63,816.19 (+4,062.70)
9/18: $70,101.27 (+6,285.08 - extra paycheck)
10/18: $73,538.91 (+3,437.64)

Joining now but I do have some historical data. This seems like a fun competition!

I do not include my savings to buy expensive "fun items" like new cellphone, electronics etc. as it is not very big, and I just started it in July. My checking account is also not included as it has money I will likely spend this month. Money in retirement accounts that is not vested is also not included. Part of the big jump in between April and August is that part of my 401K vested 20%. My investments generally go up by over $1200 a month, so to get to 100k should take me about 5 years if it does not appreciate. My savings rate will probably be higher next year, as I am looking for a new job in a lower cost of living area, or if I keep my current job, the 401k match goes up to 6% for 4.5%.

Net worth:
Dec2017:$7800
Apr2018:$13,200
Aug2018:$22,800

Best of Luck Everyone!

Sep2018: $23,645
Part of me was really excited to show this number, as I am proud. The other part was disappointed I didn't save more.

This month I saved nothing for my replacement car goals, as I spent about $500 (not completely unexpected) on the car. Seeing as October 1st started with me in the ER by 2 a.m. (I am fine, don't need any sympathy), I don't think October will see much for gains either, as my HSA might lose some money.

That being said, all my bills are paid, I am in relatively good health with great friends, and because most of my savings are automated, I still picked up $800 worth of net-worth.  I am doing better than my former self, and probably most of the US adult population.

Popping in here! Added some numbers to the document.

Didn't really track my NW before graduating from grad school, but have data from when I started my first job.

Sitting at ~53k currently.

Goal is 100k NW by end of 2019, stretch goal is 100k NW by my 26th birthday at the end of June.

Looking forward to be inspired by others and work hard towards this goal!

07/27/18: $71,676.31

Bleeding money because of the deck I am building, finish work is taking more than I expected. Also bought those tires that I need and had the suspension rebuilt on the car. Suspension rebuild could have wait..

10/04/17: $63,306.87

And it continues, 2 two week roadtrip vacations will never help. Out of days off and no major expense on the horizon so I am hoping to start turning this boat around.

Last of the medical bills for Baby #3 arrival taken care of.  Happy to have managed to keep the networth above 63k despite dropping $4800 on the medical bills.

December goal is looking like it will be knocked out early provided the market doesn't tank.

Onward!
