3/1/2018: $55,707
4/1/2018: $64,352

Hello! I am new to MMM. I'm 28, recently married, and we maintain separate finances. The goal is to be in a strong financial position to maintain flexibility in the future, not necessarily RE. I have a job that I love with amazing benefits, so I am not in a hurry to retire. But as you all know, that could always change.

I have always lived below my means in that I have never held any debt, but I've never really saved. I was a grad student living on a lean stipend in a HCOL city until a year and a half ago. I'm still in the same HCOL city, but now I have a real salary, a defined contribution retirement plan, and access to 403b and 457 accounts.

Current net worth: $48,533.91
Breakdown below...
Cash: $17,747.04
Retirement plan: $18,702.39
403b: $679.16 (Just opened this 1/1/18)
Roth IRA: $11,736.04 (Did not open this until 2016 tax year)
Credit card: -$330.72 (Use this for normal expenses, pay off in full every month)

I was over $50k a week ago, but of course the stock market is going down at the moment. Shares on sale!

3/18: $48,533.91
4/18: $53,215.13 (+4,681.22 - extra paycheck)
5/18: $55,433.65 (+2,218.52)
6/18: $57,041.95 (+1,572.27)
7/18: $59,753.49 (+2,711.54)
8/18: $63,816.19 (+4,062.70)

Thought I would spend a ton this month because I was on vacation, but I actually spent the least I have all year. I'm not even sure why, despite having all the data in YNAB. I guess I better do some soul searching about my normal life. Cutting back should be easier than I thought....

June 30: 5828.16$
August 1: 15412.83$ (+9586.67$)

Crazy month in July! Got paid a lot extra from work and managed to save most of it :) I absolutely don't expect this to continue in this pace, especially this month as DW got paid only half of her normal pay. Anyway, super happy with the progress so far!

Going to toss in here I guess. $65K currently. Changing up some strategies trying to save up for a house down payment in the next 1-2 years or so so I will be cutting my 401k contribution down from 27 to just 10%. Nice to finally join the forums I've learned so much from. Will be in the hello thread sometime this week.

Hello everyone! It is my first time posting in this thread, I just made by way over from the race to $10k thread which I just surpassed.

Here is a basic breakdown of the numbers as of the end of the day today:

Total Cash/Cash Equivalents: $31,642
Total Liabilities: $20,131

Net Worth: $11,511

Virtually all of my liabilities are student loans. I also have some minor balances on my credit cards, which I pay off monthly. I've been aggressively attacking the student loans (see my participation in the student loan challenge if curious) and have made steady progress.

As for asset composition,  20% are in checking accounts, 13% is in my HSA and 67% is in my 401k.

I'm looking forward to following everyone's progress. Good luck to us all!

Missed a month, but my net worth as of Nov 30th is $18,617.

As the year comes to a close, my next worth is up to $23,350.

Just updated my spreadsheet to record my paycheck. January ends with my networth up to $27,921.

With February officially in the books my net worth is sitting at $30,289.72. A pretty weak month compared to previous. Market losses along with some medical bills are the primary culprits.

Medical bills made March my least productive month in quite awhile, with only an increase of $1,438, leaving the ending balance at $31,728. My employer's quarterly HSA match came in. which represents almost half of the month's gain. My wife and I are expecting our first child in June, so I anticipate similar performance over the next few months... On a positive note, we've met our insurance deductible for the year, so the upcoming bills will be significantly less than they would have been otherwise.

April ends with my net worth sitting at $32,373.

A slooooow-growth month. The biggest dings were income taxes and a myriad of costs resulting for the early birth of my daughter.

Hoping for May to be more productive. Now that my daughter is here we have settled into a routine. Also, the hospital has been kind enough to provide us with a parking pass for the duration that my daughter will be there (probably until her original due date at the end of June), so that takes care of a fairly significant expense. We won't be eating out much either, as we did a bit the first week or so while we got our legs back underneath us. Not sure when the medical bills will start to hit, though...

May ends with a decent amount of growth! Up to $34,659.

June ended around 36,000 (estimate, was too busy to exactly keep track). July ends with my NW up to $38,676.

Happy with my progress, though I've been spendier than I should.  On a plus side, it looks like I'll be taking a new job which should see a ~20% bump in pay, plus a nice sign on bonus. So my NW should begin to grow more quickly! Ohh and my commute will be dropping from 42 miles down to 2.5 miles! As a result I'll be saving a ton on gas and wear and tear on my car.

Those are some great positive changes @Jim Fiction! With the likely new time pressures of being a new dad you will especially appreciate that shorter commute.  It's been a great year for you -- congrats!

I've unfortunately stalled out at $10,000-$10,200 right now.

I may stay at this level for a while, depending on whether or not I get a new job or get support from my current employer to go back to school for a Business Analyst Certificate.

From there, though, I'm hoping to get some earning potential and increase my salary so I can actually save more. Right now, if I keep my current standard of living and increase my salary, I can almost double the amount I save. I could probably save even more than double since my savings rate right now assumes I put away money for school. So once I'm done it or if it gets covered, I can put that money into my savings instead.

Aug 1, 2017: $31,378
Sep 1, 2017: $33,723
Oct 1, 2017: $37,296
Nov 1, 2017 $42,930
Aug 3, 2018: $62,456

I kind of fell off the band wagon a little bit the last few months.  I still saved, but wasn't as mustachian as I should have been.  Promising myself to start making my monthly post here again, and keeping track of my gains.  Hoping for $100k mark by January 1, 2020!

Thanks Trifele. 2018  has certainly been a whirlwind of a year, but its largely been good so i have to count my blessings! The shortsr commute will be great, it means more time with my daughter.  The new position, should it happen, will come with a better work life balance as well, so its a win, win, win.

One of my goals is to get to $100K by the end of this year.
It is a stretch goal, especially that I am paying down a (small) car loan (I don't include this in the NW number), and that should be complete by October/November time.

My 2018 numbers:

Aug   $ 81,356    < --  took a big leap when I rolled over an old IRA*
Jul   $ 66,521
Jun   $ 64,243
May   $ 60,386
Apr   $ 56,284
Mar   $ 55,824
Feb   $ 55,756
Jan   $ 51,828

*I have no historic data for the IRA so its only counted in August.
I guess that this is part of becoming moustachian, is tracking down all of your money and making it work!

Jumping in on this thread...although we aren't quite starting from 10K....but we did at one point!

Jan 18   58,329
Feb 18   57,535
Mar 18   56,984
Apr 18   57,914
May 18   53,370
Jun 18   53,211
Jul 18   55,038
Aug 18   56,124

The goal for this year was to hit 85k but it doesn't look like that will happen. I'd be happy with 65k now.

Two years ago, our income went from ~145k to 30k when we moved overseas. I've been in school doing a Master's while my wife works whatever she can pick up so it's been very hard to make progress. But we've managed to make our NW go up over these two years, so for that I am happy.

Will be starting a new full-time job in the fall -> should be able to make it to the 90k mark by end of 2019...possibly the 100k mark if we really push it!

Yikes, negative numbers! *ducks for tomatoes* I can explain! Revamped the balcony, car needed 4 new tires + new exhaust pipe + various little things and I took a holiday to Scotland (which was amazing!!). Ended up -160 in networth even though I tried to keep costs down. Still, all of these things needed to be done and I don't regret my spending.

-3.5 years left of student loan payments I'm aggressively paying off/refinanced in January '17
-15 year mortgage in May '17
-Not including 529 accounts-Only a few hundred now, but it will be going to Godchildren/my future children so not my money in my eyes.

11/26/17: $47,707.48
06/22/18: $72,953.75
07/27/18: $71,676.31

Another month of major expenses. Built a deck, planned and paid for future vacation. Hoping all the major expenses are done for this year.(except tires that I will need by middle of October)

08/23/18: $65,034.83

Bleeding money because of the deck I am building, finish work is taking more than I expected. Also bought those tires that I need and had the suspension rebuilt on the car. Suspension rebuild could have wait..

Excellent work everyone! I have added the median in the chart, it is steady uprising for 2018!

Just enter your name in the username column I in the first free row (actual I45) and then enter your actual networth value in the September Column BI on the right and the historic values in the corresponding columns. The current\previous networth and other change columns on the left will be updated automatically.

1/1= 14,705
2/1/18= 18,264
3/1/18= 21,225
4/1/18= 22,741

6/1/18= 28,987
7/1/18= 31,457
8/1/18= 34,642

All packed up and ready for the new job and move across the country. I'm burning all my unused PTO in Spain for 3 weeks. New job starts Aug 20 at x2 my current salary. Looking forward to doubling my savings rate.

9/1/18= 37,413

The move went well. Still getting settled in California, but so far so good. Have to wait 3 months at the new job before I can start 401k contributions again.

When I joined this thread, I wanted to keep myself motivated as we paid off debt so I was only tracking assets here. However now that we've officially crossed the threshold over $10k net worth, I'm going to shift gears and only track our net worth here.

8/31/18: $66,874 $12,784

We've got a long way to go! We're still paying off student loans (estimated payoff Spring 2019) so our progress will probably remain steady until that's off our plate. Loose projection of graduating this thread EoY 2019 / early 2020.

Background:
Age: 30
"Switched" Careers at 25.
Started taking personal finances 'seriously' around 27 (aka actually saving money, 401k, etc).
Started taking personal finances seriously around 29
Salary gradually up to 65k, 68k as of End of 2017, 75k at beginning of CY18
Married but don't include house (equity/mortgage) or joint savings in these calculations since she's the boss, it gets messy with house equity/sweat equity ($40k total on a $170k house in May 17), and it will just be cherry on the top.
-3.5 years left of student loan payments I'm aggressively paying off/refinanced in January '17
-15 year mortgage in May '17
-Not including 529 accounts-Only a few hundred now, but it will be going to Godchildren/my future children so not my money in my eyes.

January 2016-
($45k) Student Debt
($2k) Personal CC Debt
$8k 401k
NW: ($38k)

NW April 2016: ($34K)

April 2017: ($10.9k)
July 2017: ($5.7k)

Joining now but I do have some historical data. This seems like a fun competition!

I do not include my savings to buy expensive "fun items" like new cellphone, electronics etc. as it is not very big, and I just started it in July. My checking account is also not included as it has money I will likely spend this month. Money in retirement accounts that is not vested is also not included. Part of the big jump in between April and August is that part of my 401K vested 20%. My investments generally go up by over $1200 a month, so to get to 100k should take me about 5 years if it does not appreciate. My savings rate will probably be higher next year, as I am looking for a new job in a lower cost of living area, or if I keep my current job, the 401k match goes up to 6% for 4.5%.

Net worth:
Dec2017:$7800
Apr2018:$13,200
Aug2018:$22,800

Best of Luck Everyone!

Wohooo amazing Tass! And with such ease (as in, you actually managed a .2 as well ;))!

I was $200 over a goal in a month where I saw almost $400 in investment gains. It was luck. ;)

As for this month:

Jul 17$6.2k
Aug 17$6.8k
Sept 17$8.2k
Oct 17$9.0k
Nov 17$9.9k
Dec 17$11.1k
Jan 18$12.1k
Feb 18$13.6k
Mar 18$15.1k
Apr 18$16.6k
May 18$17.7k
Jun 18$18.5k
Jul 18$20.2k

Aug 18: $20.8k

That number obscures a lot of money-moving this month. The $600 gain encompasses $2300 in new investments and $2000 in planned spending out of my cash cushion. I had a three paycheck month, and I also bought every plane ticket I will need for the next six months (including an international trip) to meet a minimum spend for a cc bonus.

Next month I'm expecting over $700 in reimbursements, as well as nearly $300 for that cc bonus, so I should get boosted right back up to my previous trendline.

I also applied to a new apartment with rent way lower than I was budgeting for, and my forecast is SO CLOSE to shaving a year off the 100k goal. $350 stands between me and an expected 2022 graduation. (Slow train ftw.)

I changed my forum name to something a little more anonymous. My previous username was pretty easy to track back to me IRL.

December           2017       65,258
January              2018       67,602       (+2344)
February            2018       72,789       (+5187)
March                2018       75,413       (+2623)
April                  2018       75,770       (+357)
May                   2018       73,933       (-1837)
June                  2018       77,260       (+3327)
July                   2018       77,632       (+372)
August               2018       79,049       (+1417)
September         2018       83,381       (+4332)

I also had a good month at work. I just got a promotion that comes with an ~18k raise. I work in education and have access to a 457 and 403b, so I'm going to use the raise to pay off a few small student loans I have hanging around and then max out the 457 for next year. My husband just took on a new part time job that's going to bring in an extra +10k next year too! It's crazy how things can change in a short period of time. My main goal for the next month is to find a way to 'hide' all of that money from us so we don't see the difference in our paychecks!

Congrats to everyone on the promotions, new jobs, and life changes.

8/1:   15412.83$ (+9586.67$)
8/31: 19351.65$ (+3938.82$)

Happy with the development. Low salary this month as DW had a few days off without salary. I'm really excited about the next month as it should be quite a bit better than this!

Great job everybody!
