Oh, I can join this!

I've not yet started investing, but I've begun moving things around to start up my RRSP and an investing TFSA. I'll look forward to updating this as I grow my 'stache.

I'm in! I was waiting for the month end to get my numbers together. I'm in the UK so working towards £100k.

1 Dec 2017 - £16,900

Currently adding approximately £800 per month to the stash, I'm very jealous of everyone that can add thousands each month!

Ok I just depressed myself and worked out it will take about 8.5 years to get to 100k at my current rate of saving :(

Don't feel too badly, I'm in about your same situation!  I can only save about $850/month too right now.  But your life (and my life!) won't be the same in 8.5 years.  I have hopes that we'll both be able to save more in the future!  100k will come sooner than we think.

I also can save about €850 in a good month, but I have to admit I'm pretty happy with that. Maybe because I'm a newbie :-)
More seriously though, since discovering MMM I have been trying to figure out what a typical Dutch family would save and how much in debt they are, just to get my bearings on where I stand. It's not easy to find the numbers but from what I read and hear from colleagues, we (SO and I) are doing extremely well. So yes, saving like crazy to obtain 100k includes a long wait but we are still So Much Better Off than most people. I truly feel privileged and I'm trying to figure out a way of giving some of my luck back to our community. If any of you has tips or ideas I would love to hear!

For all of the super-savers, but a bit more for the smaller-savers like us: You can do it! :-)

Another Dutchie here :) We, as well, are certainly not able to save thousands and thousands of euros each month. But we'll do our best and are doing (like you said) extremely well, when compared to the 'average' Dutchie.

On another note. Just found out, that our net worth is 22.000 euros :) Yeay! Time to slowly climb towards that 100,000.
At this rate we'll be there in July 2024.

Welcome aboard AdamSputnik! Way to focus on killing the debt.

Interesting that this thread (and the "Save to $10k" thread) have a lot of first time posters.  Excellent place to start out.  Building that first $100k is the hardest part.  It's a tough slog for many, but that journey -- however long that may take -- forms the foundation for all that follows.  Self accountability and companionship definitely help!  Onward, friends.  :)

How hard is the first $100k compared to say the first $250k, and then the first $500k, etc?

I'm finding it pretty hard to be honest but hoping it gets easier hitting the bigger numbers with time and compounding...

The first $100k was by far the hardest part for me.  If you can get through that first heavy lift, it goes faster and easier after that.  You just have to have faith and keep going.  This stuff is real, and you've got this, JuicyCrab.  You can do it!

Great progress being demonstrated in here!  I just love the "race" threads (I look at all of them, big and small).  It's just motivating to see so many people continuously tracking and progressing through different challenges.  I'm hoping to graduate from this one before spring hits.  I'll officially update at the start of the month, but there's a small chance I could hit an even $90k NW by new years, which I'd be thrilled to see.

I started tracking spending a few years ago, but only started tracking net worth 5 months ago.  So far I've averaged $637 gain/week over the last 19 weeks taking me from $50.5k to $62.6k in that time.  I'm joining the race! And setting myself a goal to hit $100k by the end of 2018 which means I need to bring that average up to $720/week which is going to be tough but anyway that's the point

I fell behind in updating with work and a new house, which also means a dip in invested assets. So now I'll shall use LNW (liquid net worth) to exclude equity? Which means dip in invested assets, but means a house that I love.

3/1/2017   -   $66
4/1/2017   - $ 6,298

6/1/2017   - $17,418
7/1/2017   - $21,303
8/1/2017   - $28,136
9/1/2017   - $29,233
10/1/2017 - $35,076
11/1/2017 - $40,626

I had a goal of $90k in the 401k by the end of the year, I made it!!  There should be a pretty decent dividends increase in Dec, not sure if I will be able to hit $95k in the 401k alone before the end of the year but it seems pretty likely in the combination of the 401k and IRA I might even hit $95k in the 401k alone before the end of year.  It would be really cool to graduate from this before baby #2 comes in March!

I was reading some of the other "Race from" threads and decided that although I don't count true NW it would be nice to look back and see it so I figured I would add it!  I am staying in this thread because the "Invested Total" is the column that I am tracking.

I know I really shouldn't be looking at the balances this often but as of this morning (who knows if it will last) the 401k is just above $95k.  Once the Dec contribution and any dividends are added (assuming this growth doesn't take a nose dive before the end of the year) we should be really close to graduating this race. I think Jan I am going to be really tempted to add enough to the IRA to get us over that $100k mark, must remind myself that savings should be left alone until after baby arrives.

You should be able to refinance that student loan debt in the meantime and save anywhere from 3-4%. When I did mine I searched around Earnest seemed like the best. If you decide to do it and go with them, I can provide a referral code for a free $200 for ya.

December 2017 - $11,208

Hard to believe those numbers are mine!  I started out the year with about a grand, so I'm happy with how far I've come on a $40K salary.  This is the richest I've ever been!  (And I hope to say that every month going forward.)

I'm crashing two threads and this will be my joint account. I like my personal one since it's easier to motivate myself then my wife, but it still nice seeing the change in combined NW/Investments which is what matters.

I'm jumping into this, because I was going to join the save to 10,000 thread, but then realized I actually already had $10,000 in my retirement.

I'm still not sure of everything, so there might be mistakes. I'm going to focus on building investments first, before paying off my debts, because they are all less than 5% over the treasury rate. After I get an emergency fund established, I intend to max out my DCP 547 plan, then max out my 403b plan, and then tackle my school loans (higher interest than the mortgage), then tackle my mortgage, then start investing in Vangaurd or something. That last part is a ways down the road, which is why it's vague.

Oct 2017 EUR 13400,-
Nov 2017 EUR 13900,- (+500)

Oct 2017 EUR 13400,-
Nov 2017 EUR 13900,- (+500)
Dec 2017 EUR 14300,- (+400)

Not bad considering I paid my health insurance for the whole year this month. From next month savings should increase to >1000/month.

Hello everyone! It is my first time posting in this thread, I just made by way over from the race to $10k thread which I just surpassed.

Here is a basic breakdown of the numbers as of the end of the day today:

Total Cash/Cash Equivalents: $31,642
Total Liabilities: $20,131

Net Worth: $11,511

Virtually all of my liabilities are student loans. I also have some minor balances on my credit cards, which I pay off monthly. I've been aggressively attacking the student loans (see my participation in the student loan challenge if curious) and have made steady progress.

As for asset composition,  20% are in checking accounts, 13% is in my HSA and 67% is in my 401k.

I'm looking forward to following everyone's progress. Good luck to us all!

Missed a month, but my net worth as of Nov 30th is $18,617.

As the year comes to a close, my next worth is up to $23,350.

I am in! The goal is to get to 100k net worth by the end of 2018. Currently at ~21k. I have been pretty good at my goals so far. Starting out after college in Dec. 2013, I believe I had about a negative net worth of 65k. My first financial goal was to get a net worth of zero by the time I received my tax refund this year and I hit it at the end of January. My second goal was to have my private student loan (6.6%) paid off by the end of July. I made it at the end of June. Next I am hoping to have the car paid off by the end of the year. Currently have a 10k balance left on that loan.

My soft goal for the end of 2017 is 35k in net worth, only because I think I'll need it to be close to that to meet the 100k goal at the end of 2018. I have not done any hard calcs at this point, but in the mean time, I should be getting annual raises of approx. 5k beginning 11/1 for 2017 and 2018. I will also be maxing out my 401k in 2018 and hopefully the ROTH IRA as well.

So I am currently at ~30,900 net worth. I've been averaging about a 2k increase per month and I've got an extra paycheck coming in for December as there will be 3 pay periods. I should be between 37-38k net worth by the end of the year. I've got a raise coming effective 11/1, but I have not been communicated the amount yet.

I've cut almost 3k in annual expenses in the past few months. Moved to a nicer, more convenient, and cheaper apartment (farther away from city center, which I don't need anymore) that will save me $87 a month. In moving there and an acquisition by my firm, I will be driving approximately 10 miles round trip a day rather than 60. Rough estimates have that at about $100 a month in gas savings. My firm is also adding a HDHP plan, which I do not know the exact details yet, but I'm guessing this will be about 1/2 the cost of the low deductible plan (estimated savings of 50/month).

I have not ran the hard numbers yet as exact figures aren't determined, but my goal of 100k NW by the end of 2018 is going to come really close. I'd guess I'm looking at being more towards 10-15k short without any gains/raise coming next year/potential promotion. Here is a question for my fellow cohorts - I have about a 5k vested pension at my previous employer. I'm going to check to see if there is any way I can roll that over into a 401k/IRA this coming week. Either way, would you include that in your net worth calc? I'm younger so pensions are not a familiar topic for me. I've read being vested means that its guaranteed to me no matter what, but I've heard of plenty of people losing their pensions (albeit not knowing specific circumstances).

Now that year end is basically here I took some time to run my numbers.

Current NW: 46,289.93
2018:
Student loan payments decreasing principal: 1,933.56
ROTH IRA Contribution on 1/1 (with 7% return estimated: 5,885
401k Contributions (with estimated DCA of 3.5% return): 19,147.50
Deferred 2017 401k employer match: 458
401k employer match (with estimated DCA of 3.5% return): 2,000
2017 tax refund estimate (with 1% Ally interest): 2,020
Addition to savings (for house downpayment):18,379.42
Estimated previous employer retirement plan increase: 500
Estimated increase in paychecks due to lower w/h from tax reform: 1,500.
Estimated increase to 2017 YE 401k balance (assuming 7%): 1273.09
Estimated increase to 2017 YE Roth balance (assuming 7%): 424.41

12/31 2018 NW estimate: $99,780.91. So it's going to be VERY close. There will certainly be some unexpected costs that creep up such as smaller medical/dental costs, registrations, licenses, car maintenance/repairs, etc. Getting there is going to heavily count on the stock market getting at least average returns. I'm working hard towards a promotion that would go into effect 11/1/18, which would hopefully net me about another 1k before 2018 YE. I also have multiple ways to get bonuses at work, albeit normally in smaller increments. I believe I already have close to 1k gross coming my way. Let's get it!

Joining for the new year, and I'll probably be here for a while.

Jul 17:  $ 6.2k
Aug 17: $ 6.8k
Sep 17: $ 8.2k
Oct 17: $ 9.0k
Nov 17: $ 9.9k
Dec 17: $11.1k

As of this month I am debt-free and I'm narrowly on-track to max out my ROTH by April. My spreadsheet says I won't hit 100k until 2024, but frankly my circumstances are likely to change significantly before then, so this is primarily for record-keeping and accountability.

Welcome aboard Clarkai and Tass!  Nothing wrong with the "slow boat" to wealth, Tass -- at least you're on the boat, and the company is good.  :)  You kicked ass in 2017 and I'm sure you will this year too.

Happy New Year everyone!

Well, I joined this race 3.5 years ago, but I have finally made it.  My partner and I went from a net worth of ~-8k to our current six figure net worth.

We've come a long way.  In 2014 we earned a combined $52.5k and we had almost $24k in debt (student loans).  We paid off the student loans completely in April 2016, and last year we earned $84k (our average income in the last 4 years is $66k).

I know we've been very slow in this race compared to many, but I'm super proud of what we've accomplished on such low income.  I'm hopeful that I'll finally finish my advanced degree program in 2018 and begin to earn a real salary, which should accelerate our progress a lot.

Right now almost half of our net worth is in a savings account for a down payment on a house.  I might wait until we have $100k in invested assets before I join the next challenge.  Best of luck to all of you!

Went to check my balance today so that I could do an end of the year/Jan 2018 post and the stupid site says they are temporarily down, grrrr!

Also found out that since our company was purchased we are moving to a different 401K provider and they will be automatically transferring our balances to the new provider.  The new provider is a large generally decent company but the current provider is largely preferred and I am whiny about the change.  Hopefully we will have options with similarly low  expenses ratios to choose from.

Happy new year everyone. I'm close to 100K, but about to go into training and then self-employment in March-June, so I will have a few negative net worth months ahead of me. My goal is to graduate by the end of the year, depending on how my business goes.

Excited to be doing this and to keep myself on track despite any setbacks.
