You're getting super close now!  Any chance you break the barrier by year end?

I really hope so, I should have a bonus coming in the next month or so that might get me really close to striking distance of graduating from the thread. I do hold a fair chunk of a really volatile ETF though, so I can have big swings (for me) from that - usually down.  Fingers crossed!

You've made a lot of progress in the last year as well! Looks like you'll be close (or graduating!) by year end as well!

Thanks Trifele!  It's crazy how quickly it all adds up when you get serious about it.  I'm graduating to the next thread.  Good luck everyone.

Rejoining with new numbers - I started out tracking NW, but it did not feel right as it includes home equity/rental home equity/student loans, etc....  I am now only including our tax-advantaged retirement accounts as that is what feels right for me on this thread.  I expect to graduate April 2019.

6/1/2017   $44,119
7/1/2017   $46,553
8/1/2017   $48,477

First post in here, hi all!

 Jan: $16,229.65
 Feb: $14,464.52
 Mar: $15,373.56
 Apr: $16,951.54
 May: $18,680.07
 Jun: $20,697.15
 Jul: $21,899.86
 Aug: $24,282.31
 Sep: $26,223.66
 Oct: $26,253.39

It's been a ROUGH couple of weeks. My partner's father had a bad heart attack and eventually passed away (only 58!) and we had to drop everything to fly north and be here for the family. It's pretty nice to have a couple of grand socked away, even if it does mean my numbers have stalled.

And I'm there. $100,977.79 once they process the $1,000 I just put in. (More with the paid for condo and car but I'm not counting those.) On to the next milestone.

This was quicker than I though it would be, but part of that was due to the money my Mother left me in her will.
Therefore I'm hoping the next part isn't quick for a similar reason....

I only really track my 401k balance and only for the last couple years.

In my 20s I put something like 10% in and thought I was doing great (better than average), we also tackled 1 student loan, 2 car loans, credit card debt, and bought our 1st home (now a rental).  For the last several years I have only been putting 6% (plus a company match) into the 401k, while we saved for a wedding, down payment on a house, started a family, went to 1 steady income and 1 self employed income, and are continuing the last student loan.  We are still working on paying off my last student loan and building the self employed income but I am really hoping to hit $100k in the 401k sometime in 2018, if the self employed income starts taking off and we can contribute more to an IRA I will add that into the calculations too.

I did do a quick back of the envelope net worth calculation that included debt, primary and rental home value, and vehicle value and that put net worth around $150k, but since I don't regularly track that stuff I don't want to join the next group until the retirement accounts are above $100k.

                    401K          IRA          Total
Dec 2013:   $43,660     $0           $43,660
Dec 2014:   $52,943     $0           $52,943
Dec 2015:   $55,622     $0           $55,622
Dec 2016:   $68,870     $700       $69,570
 Feb 2017:   $74,784      $700       $75,484
   4/11/17:   $76,834     $1002      $77,836
 Apr 2017:   $78,946      $1026     $79,972
  5/24/17:    $80,007     $1040      $81,047
  6/05/17:    $82,048     $1057      $83,105
  7/21/17:    $84,508     $1075      $85,583
  8/02/17:    $85,737     $1075      $86,812
  9/01/17:    $86,830     $1079      $87,909
10/02/17:    $89,275     $1100      $90,375

I had a goal of $90k in the 401k by the end of the year, only $800 shy of that!!

I have been hearing the radio talk about the market having "another" up day for the last few days so I decided to check my balance in the 401K ... and drumroll... I hit $90k today.  I keep expecting the market to stop climbing but I will take it!

Welcome back AcftW, though you are doing so well you won't be here long, it looks like.  :)

Thanks!  I just got paid and the market’s been good for me, I actually just passed the 100k mark but am going to wait until 1 November in case anything happens.

First time checking in! Here's what the last few months have looked like:

1/1/17: $50,628
2/1/17: $54,828
3/1/17: $56,100
4/1/17: $60,393
5/1/17: $63,775
6/1/17: $67,020

I may have an expensive summer coming up (buying a car for the first time, moving long-distance, possible break between jobs), but here's hoping I can stay on track for my goal of $80k at year's end. And then $100k before my 27th birthday in 2018!

10/1/17: $75,600

Well, it's been a while and it was an expensive summer, but I've made some progress. I did buy a (used) car, moved across the country, and had a little over a month with no income because of a break between jobs. But this new job should accelerate things a bit. I'm on track to surpass my $80k year-end goal, and should hit $100 by the end of June 2018 at the latest.

Will update monthly. Time to get the ball rolling!

Hi there! I'm new here and looking for a place to jump in for motivation as I read my way through the forums and optimize my spending and such. Feels like I'm in the doldroms just above $50K - will I ever see progress? Grrr...

Anyway I'm going to go on my Personal Capital investments, no other assets & excluding cash on hand as that is going to budgeting and the unfortunate spending of half my emergency fund on emergency dental work.

October 2017: $55,138

I became aware of MMM and the general philosophy almost two years ago but a low wage (yes a poor excuse) and some travelling have prevented me from beginning the march towards £100K. I have just had a substantial pay rise and so I really need some form of accountability to make this opportunity count and also to prevent lifestyle creep, hopefully this thread can help!

I'll start the record from a couple of months before my pay rise.

05/17 £1020
06/17 £470    (-£550    /\ -50%)
07/17 £1,590 (+£1120 /\ +340%)
08/17 £2,080 (+£490   /\ +30%)
09/17 £7,250 (+£5170 /\ +350%)

Great job! Hope that happens to me with my next milestone!

I'm currently frustrated that half my net worth is in transit between TIAA and Vanguard for a rollover and I almost choked when I opened Personal Capital and saw the net worth bottoming out. I can't believe in this day and age the rollover can't be totally electronic! They tell me it could take up to 2 weeks to arrive in my rollover account...

I transferred from Schwab to Vanguard via ACH so it is electronic for certain firm but not for all, I guess.

Woke up the other day to mint saying I had gotten up to 114k, but it turns out they doubled one of my vanguard accounts.  :D

Actually at about 88k.  Didn't work for a couple months so I could do some traveling, but now back on track.  Should hit 100k in ~4 months.

New to the thread. Found MMM about two months ago, turned out I've been quite mustachian all my life. Starting my first 'real' job next week and aiming to save 1000 EUR monthly.

Current net worth approx EUR 13400,-

Well mine ended up only taking a week, so not that bad - but my Personal Capital profile now looks like I tanked it for a week followed by the most epic day ever haha.

I'm crashing two threads and this will be my joint account. I like my personal one since it's easier to motivate myself then my wife, but it still nice seeing the change in combined NW/Investments which is what matters.

I am in! The goal is to get to 100k net worth by the end of 2018. Currently at ~21k. I have been pretty good at my goals so far. Starting out after college in Dec. 2013, I believe I had about a negative net worth of 65k. My first financial goal was to get a net worth of zero by the time I received my tax refund this year and I hit it at the end of January. My second goal was to have my private student loan (6.6%) paid off by the end of July. I made it at the end of June. Next I am hoping to have the car paid off by the end of the year. Currently have a 10k balance left on that loan.

My soft goal for the end of 2017 is 35k in net worth, only because I think I'll need it to be close to that to meet the 100k goal at the end of 2018. I have not done any hard calcs at this point, but in the mean time, I should be getting annual raises of approx. 5k beginning 11/1 for 2017 and 2018. I will also be maxing out my 401k in 2018 and hopefully the ROTH IRA as well.

So I am currently at ~30,900 net worth. I've been averaging about a 2k increase per month and I've got an extra paycheck coming in for December as there will be 3 pay periods. I should be between 37-38k net worth by the end of the year. I've got a raise coming effective 11/1, but I have not been communicated the amount yet.

I've cut almost 3k in annual expenses in the past few months. Moved to a nicer, more convenient, and cheaper apartment (farther away from city center, which I don't need anymore) that will save me $87 a month. In moving there and an acquisition by my firm, I will be driving approximately 10 miles round trip a day rather than 60. Rough estimates have that at about $100 a month in gas savings. My firm is also adding a HDHP plan, which I do not know the exact details yet, but I'm guessing this will be about 1/2 the cost of the low deductible plan (estimated savings of 50/month).

I have not ran the hard numbers yet as exact figures aren't determined, but my goal of 100k NW by the end of 2018 is going to come really close. I'd guess I'm looking at being more towards 10-15k short without any gains/raise coming next year/potential promotion. Here is a question for my fellow cohorts - I have about a 5k vested pension at my previous employer. I'm going to check to see if there is any way I can roll that over into a 401k/IRA this coming week. Either way, would you include that in your net worth calc? I'm younger so pensions are not a familiar topic for me. I've read being vested means that its guaranteed to me no matter what, but I've heard of plenty of people losing their pensions (albeit not knowing specific circumstances).

Wooo Hoooo!!!!  Big congratulations!

Thank you!  Never would have believed it was possible a few years ago.  But at 25 and single, there’s no better time to start building the foundation.

9/1/2017   $51,618
10/1/2017 $55,740
11/1/2017  $60,079 (will slow down through EOY as 401K is now maxed)

Aug 1, 2017: $31,378
Sep 1, 2017: $33,723
Oct 1, 2017: $37,296
Nov 1, 2017 $42,930

October was a good month for me.  My roommate got a new job in Chicago, and is taking the majority of the furniture with him.  November is going to be a little tighter for me with furniture and Christmas purchases on the horizon.  At least I've found a new roommate coming in on December 1!
