Title: Project 333 Summer 2015 -- clean your closet and choose your items
Post by: KBecks2 on May 17, 2015, 01:54:37 PM
This summer I am going to to Project 333 for the first time.  I've got clothes spread out on my bed and need to pack some things away (and find last year's summer clothes in the basement (I have a small closet)).  This is exciting and I'm looking forward to it!

What I have noticed so far is that I have VERY LITTLE COLOR in my wardrobe.  That is a plus and a minus.
I am having a hard time coming up with 33 items, and most of my time is spent in casual "at home" clothes.
I also have a ton of exercise wear, most of which is old and I no longer like.

Post here if you want to join in.  If you are ambitious, post photos of your summer wardrobe!

I have purchased 2 pairs of sandals for this summer, and I may have to buy just a little bit to make the process more pleasurable.  Summer is one of my favorite months for ease of dressing!!

If you are a Project 333 veteran, discuss your wardrobe for this summer!!!

OK, I made a first sweep through the closet.   It is not perfect, but it is a start!

I went through main items,  shirts, jackets, pants, jeans, shorts.
I have not yet figured out shoes or accessories.

Mainly I chose things to keep and sorted out some discards, and put away the fall and winter clothes.  My colors are dark, it does not look very summery but these are the clothes I have.

I have not gone through "house" clothes or workout clothes.  That is a lot of clothes too!  I am not sure about house clothes vs. "regular" clothes. Does this mean I cannot go to Wal-Mart in sweatpants? I may have to bend those rules.

It's a good start, I'll take it for now.

Off to donate some things and clean off the bed so we can sleep tonight.

Just spent a little time looking this up. As a man, I don't think this would be hard to stick to and I am probably already way under this. Good luck to you.

Project 333 led me to MMM in a long roundabout way.  I haven't actually counted my clothes, so I don't know whether I'm at 33.  However,  I have cut down significantly in the wardrobe department.  I have 3 pairs of jeans. One to wear to the barn (poop),  one that is kind of in the middle and one pair that is nice that I schlep around town in.  I have about 5 work shirts, 5 work pants.  One set of exercise wear.
Couple of mesh (long) pants to wear when it gets really hot, 3 shirts that are elbow sleeve and cool.  Now, I will confess, I have bought multiples of the mesh pants and elbow shirts because I know they are comfortable, I have to be covered up for my health, and it is hard to find things that work.
For summer I have 1 pair work shoes, 1 pair cushy running shoes, I pair flip flops, 1 pair chaco sandals.  Again, I have to confess I have back ups of the work shoes.  When the current pair is too ugly for work, we will go hiking together.

I have recently purged my wardrobe but I am still a long way away from getting down to 33 items per season.  To be honest, my summer shoes alone would probably number more than 33 ;-)  So I am definitely not ready to join the challenge at this point but will follow the thread with interest.

I should do this too.  I seriously downsized my wardrobe when I moved into my apartment, and I now store my off-season clothes in under the bed boxes. But I still have a lot of clothes that I don't like/wear for whatever reason.

Need to limit my options, experiment more, and be more satisfied with what I have.

Ohhhh!   I started project 333 a while ago (a year?) and it's changed my relationship with clothing, completely.

This is my summer wardrobe.   I'll only wear out of the house: 7 tops, 7 bottoms, 6 seasonal items (some seasons I'll have up to 7, but 6 is all I have this season), 5 pairs of shoes, 3 pairs of earrings, one pair of sunglasses, and one purse.  So, 31 items to choose from.   Way more than enough.

bottoms (7):
-tan linen pants
-white pants
-black knit skirt
-bright blue skirt
-dark denim shorts
-khaki shorts
-black bermuda shorts

tops (7)
-white short sleeved blouse
-black and white polka dot sleeveless blouse
-green and navy polka dotted tank
-black dressier tank
-black tee
-bright blue tee
-black tee tank top

extra seasonal items (6)
-hot pink linen skirt
-grey dress
-blue and white striped short jacket
-two short sleeved sweater thingies (one grey and one white)
-one cable knit zip up cream sweater

shoes (5)
-black mary janes
-tan linen wedges
-black flip flops
-purple flats
-tan sandals

earrings (3)
-quarter-sized silver hoops
-huge-ass silver hoops
-hammered silver earrings

My purse is just a light brown fake leather one (I don't wear real leather)

There will be a picture below (as soon as I can get it to attach).   The flip flops are missing b/c I'm wearing them.   All the rest is clean b/c I always change into lounge wear the second I get home and very often just hang right back up what I wore out.   Oh and for the Crocs haters, 100% of my shoes are Crocs.

Also ETA: I should get rid of those zillion extra hangers in the bottom right.   Just for perspective, those used to all have clothes on them (plus more clothes on cheaper hangers I've since gotten rid of).   I do have more off-season clothes in another closet, but I have gotten rid of so, so much.

Awesome!  I'm in!  I need help streamlining my wardrobe.  I also could use a LOT of help with finding my personal style.

I haven't counted the items but half of my closet is empty. I got rid of tons of stuff & actually bought some new clothes since I lost weight. It was fun to shop because I had not done so in a number of years. I got rid of everything I never wore even if I spent a lot of $ on it & it fit, etc. No point if you don't wear it.

Decided to participate, although from New Zealand, so my twist on it will be Project 333 WINTER 2015!

Boy am I in trouble if I suddenly tire of wearing variants of the colour purple. Not likely, it has been an enduring love ... since age 10.

Here is my list:

1.   Metallicus* lavender top
2.   Metallicus smoke top
3.   Metallicus mauve top
4.   Purple long-sleeved top
5.   Navy hoody with metallic floral pattern
6.   Green spangled ribbed top
7.   Lavender cardigan
8.   Pink zip-up hoodie
9.   Purple cowl necked merino jumper
10.   Berry cowl-necked merino jumper
11.   Aqua mohair heavy jumper
12.   Blue Raincoat
13.   Grey wool suit jacket
14.    Navy pin-stripe suit jacket
15.    Pale grey wool suit jacket
16.   Black velvet evening jacket
17.   Black heavy wool cricketer’s jacket
18.   Black polyester work pants
19.   Navy pinstriped tailored pants
20.   Black wool tailored pants
21.   Grey beanie
22.   Purple wool scarf
23.   Lavender rayon scarf
24.   Diamond earrings
25.   Grey wool/poly knit gloves
26.   Black corduroy pants
27.   Plum corduroy pants
28.   Jeans dark wash
29.   Jeans mid-blue wash
30.   Burgundy loafers
31.   Black mary-janes
32.   Black Clark (school shoes) laceups
33.   Black patent low work shoes

*Metallicus is an Australian brand, I think. These tops are half polyamide, half merino, and are thin shirts which ARE used as a base item (in winter, anyway) - but which are not actually underwear.

Okay, a couple of weeks in.

Full disclosure: this has not been a stretch goal. DH's response - 'oh great, you'll buy some clothes, then?' probably sums it up. I am minimalist already.

Some insights:

 i'm down with this.

i cleaned out my closet about april, but i walk in there and still see plenty of stuff i know i will never wear that's either sellable or donateable.  i really only need bare minimums now that ere and mmm has turned me into a minimalist.

my goal should be by october 1 to be down to the real minimums.

Nice!  I need to make a 2nd sweep through my stuff, I am losing weight, yay! And also discovering what I won't use.  Have not done much shopping and that is a joy!!  I wonder about fall, but that is a long way away.

Also I may need some work clothes, its own capsule. I need to clean makeup and jewelry storage.

I love this idea.  I'm a man so it will probably be easier.  Anyone mind if I go with 32?   I think having the numbers will really help.

So Maybe I missed this but is it 33 pieces of cloths for each season or for just two seasons?   We literally have 4 seasons hear.   I suppose I could do a 2 season split with some overlap though.

Hoping that my example will lead the wife to reduce her 400 plus pieces of clothing.

Flipping over to the project 333 site just now.

It's 33 pieces per season. So 33 to cover you for the summer, and then swap stuff out as needed for fall, and again for winter.

I envy my friends in the PNW, who can basically use the same wardrobe year round.

Yeah,  I just checked the site out.  (I may have done this in the past)   It would then equal about 120 for me.  Probably way more than I already have so I'll have to count and just cut like a mad man.   I don't think I'll go through the effort to box up or put away clothes as that would just be moving stuff around and in Missouri a spring day could literally be 35 or 85 for a high.

But I will cut like a mad man.  Some things are just weird.   Like I have 3 or 4 suits.  I might wear a suit 1 time per year but my weight has fluctuated along with my bicep size and some suits fit better at times than others.

I know I have some things that haven't been worn in over 2 years,  so those must go bye bye.   Wife is leaving town this weekend so this will be one of my projects.  That and drawer cleaning!  That and culling glass wear (and event best done when she is not around to witness.  lol)
