November 2021 goals
« on: November 01, 2021, 03:57:37 PM »
October was really tough for me, I want to do better in November.
Here is a link to October thread, I think a lot of us struggled during the month as it is much shorter than earlier months: https://forum.mrmoneymustache.com/throw-down-the-gauntlet/october-2021-goals/
However, I will have to make my goals list tomorrrow, I have to go to bed...

At least
 • Focus goal: Sleep. In bed by 10 pm, lights off by 10.30 all days before work days - 22 days.

Last month was brutal, had so many strange injuries. Already enjoying this month much more!

Goals:
-Complete 30x30, a walking/hiking/running challenge that a local store is putting on.
-yoga 3-5/week, 20 minutes minimum
-start War and Peace (why not?!)
-start writing a novel (also why not?!)
-pay 1000 towards taxes
-put 1500 into savings (RRSP’s to bring down taxes owed)
-use at least 4 obscure ingredients from the pantry
-minimize social media use —weekends only

Back after a month of "digital detox" with no non-work internet use.  Wasn't as productive as I'd hoped, but got tons of reading done and probably a lot of decompression.  November is going to be a busy month - every weekend is booked already!  So keeping the list pretty short, and hopefully I can keep up.

General:
1. Read
  a. At least 8 books total
  b. 2 Nonfiction book
  c. 4 from TBR list
2. Keep House Tidy (target 20/31)
3. Walk Outside (target 20/31)
4. Do at least 1 sit-up (target 25/31)

Baking/Canning/Crafting:
5. Can Applesauce (?)
6. Bake Something (x2)
7. Sew DH PJ Pants

Complete
Progress/On Track
Behind Schedule
Did Not Meet

I am also glad to put the October thread behind me. Had too much fun and didn't focus on productivity in the last half. I'm not sad about this, but have been feeling guilt. Since there's a 4-day weekend in Nov, the same thing will probably happen again. Going to narrow down the focus:

 • Physical Therapy 20/30 days
 • low spend on groceries/eat down pantry very good
 • Recover scratch post
 • Sleep more/better good
 • Photo scanning no progress

Complete
On track
Behind Schedule

Finally my November list. Focus will be sleep, DS2 birthday and continue to declutter and organize. Also exercise. I will try to keep my list shorter and be kind to myself - I need it.

Please note I use a color scheme that differs a bit form most in this thread.
Blue = good progress
Orange = at risk
Red = did not happen
Green = completed
 • Focus goal: Sleep. In bed by 10 pm, lights off by 10.30 all days before work days - 21 days. I said 22 above but I actually am off this Friday. So far 2/3. Have slept more and better than usual the last two nights.
 • Focus goal: Plan 2021-2022.
 • Focus goal: Apartment. I want to continue declutter and organize in these areas: Paper, Kitchen, Bookshelf, Living room, Storage, DS1 room, DS2 room. I will have this as a very lofty goal - any progress will be good.
 • Exercise & fitness: Yoga 10 times (so far 2), gym 4 times, get back on any 30 days at-home program for at least the last week of Nov, run 4 times, swim 3 times (so far 1), karate 6 times (so far 2) and walk 240 000 steps.
 • Use the Robovac regularly. Cat hair everywhere...
 • Plan DS2 birthday (mid-Nov): gifts, party w/friends, relatives visiting.
 • Clean up the balcony for winter.
 • Eat well - hope to be below 62 kilos end of month.

-start War and Peace (why not?!): step 1) bought it from the local bookstore
-start writing a novel (also why not?!) : nope
-pay 1000 towards taxes :$500 so far
-put 1500 into savings (RRSP’s to bring down taxes owed) :$300 so far

First update for November. Pretty good week, except for eating, which has been not good. We have been travelling a bit to see family, which makes me stressed in general.

Please note I use a color scheme that differs a bit form most in this thread.
Blue = good progress
Orange = at risk
Red = did not happen
Green = completed
 • Focus goal: Sleep. In bed by 10 pm, lights off by 10.30 all days before work days - 21 days. I said 22 above but I actually am off this Friday. So far 2/4. Good sleep but not enough sleep.
 • Focus goal: Plan 2021-2022. Have been thinking a bit but not much progress as kids are around. Next week when they are with their dad, I will set aside some focus time for this.
 • Focus goal: Apartment. I want to continue declutter and organize in these areas: Paper, Kitchen, Bookshelf, Living room, Storage, DS1 room, DS2 room, any progress will be good. No progress so far, plan to get some done during next weekend.
Some progress.
 • Clean up the balcony for winter.
 • Eat well - hope to be below 62 kilos end of month. Was 63.5 this morning, up 1, not surprised after this weekend. Will try to do better, but sugar cravings right now.

Slightly late on my first update, I have been continuing to avoid internet access on the weekends, except for specific necessary tasks.  Unfortunately, this means my tracking for several of the goals below has been spotty.

General:
1. Read
  a. At least 8 books total - 5/8 On Track
  b. 2 Nonfiction book - 1/2 On Track
  c. 4 from TBR list - 1/4, Good Progress
2. Keep House Tidy (target 20/31) - Nixing this, it's too hard to track without electronics
3. Walk Outside (target 20/31) - Nixing this, it's too hard to track without electronics
4. Do at least 1 sit-up (target 25/31) - Nixing this, it's too hard to track without electronics
5. Benefits Election - Done!

Baking/Canning/Crafting:
5. Can Applesauce (?) - I don't think I'm going to do this, not enough time
6. Bake Something (x2) - 1/2, Apple Crisp
7. Sew DH PJ Pants - Not started, might not happen this month

Complete
Progress/On Track
Behind Schedule

Sporadic update time!

Goals:
-Complete 30x30, a walking/hiking/running challenge : this is happening even though it seems to be our rainiest November
-yoga 3-5/week, 20 minutes minimum : managed two sessions last week but am happy that I’m craving it even if I don’t always get to it
-start War and Peace (why not?!): step 1) bought it, haven’t started yet
-start writing a novel: kindof sortof. Am sketching ideas and scenes, also watching a series of videos (writing workshop style)
-pay 1000 towards taxes :$500 so far
-put 1500 into savings (RRSP’s to bring down taxes owed) :$300 so far**this will be a hard one with only one small cheque coming in before end of month
-use at least 4 obscure or languishing ingredients from the pantry : this is a fun one..now I’m soaking barley to cook later, will do a fridge clean out today for soup and incorporate scape salt and dried chives, and see what else I can use up
-minimize social media use —weekends only: failing

Don't have it in me to write a proper update... my ex got Covid (he is 2x vaccinated since several months). He is better now but it meant kids have been with me for a longer period so I had to cancel some plans and some exercise, then DS1 got sick (just a cold, and he is ok now), now I have a cold so I can't do any exercise... Work is horrible right now, which is rarely is, and kids are not sleeping in their beds. I am exhausted and eating a lot of ice cream and chocolate... I just assume I will miss out on all of the goals this month.

I do hope kids will be going to their dad end of week, then I will sleep.... and write some more here. Sorry for this negativity - hope you all are better.

mid month check in
cat post is done
low spend on track
sleep hit a snag with the time change, but remains a daily focus
photo scanning - pleased with progress, will push for more
no PT

Time for another update.  It's not been a great month for productivity, because we've had so many social obligations - weddings, birthdays, etc every weekend.

General:
1. Read
  a. At least 8 books total - 9/8, Complete
  b. 2 Nonfiction book - 3/2, Complete
  c. 4 from TBR list - 3/4, On Track

Sundays is the day I aspire to update, it rarely happens, but tonight it will. It is late, almost 11pm, I should be in bed, but i just need a few minutes of me time before bed.

Kids have been with me for most of the month, then I was alone Friday - Saturday, then kids are back today for a couple of days. Then I have the final week of November alone, hope to get some of the items on the list completed. It's good to have them around a lot, but also a bit exhausting :-). I thought I would get more done yesterday, but I just needed a recovery day, and it was really good.

So here is my current update for November. It is not good. However, even though I didn't put it as a focus goal, the most important thing was DS2 birthday, and I am on track w/the different parts - feels good.

Please note I use a color scheme that differs a bit form most in this thread.
Blue = good progress
Orange = at risk
Red = did not happen
Green = completed
 • Focus goal: Sleep. In bed by 10 pm, lights off by 10.30 all days before work days - 21 days. . Really bad, I think I only have 2 or 3 nights so far. I just cant't go to bed early when kids are here, I really need some me time, and that means staying up later.
 • Focus goal: Plan 2021-2022. Some progress but still a long way to go. Need to write more about it ('think on paper').
 • Focus goal: Apartment. I want to continue declutter and organize in these areas: Paper, Kitchen, Bookshelf, Living room, Storage, DS1 room, DS2 room, any progress will be good. Still no progress.
 • Exercise & fitness: Yoga 10 times (so far 2), gym 4 times (0), get back on any 30 days at-home program for at least the last week of Nov (not started), run 4 times (0), swim 3 times (so far 1), karate 6 times (so far 2) and walk 240 000 steps.
 • Use the Robovac regularly. Cat hair everywhere... Actually some progress. I changed the battery and have started using it a bit. Only in the living room so far though. Need to declutter/straighten the place a lot more before I can use it in other rooms.
 • Plan DS2 birthday (mid-Nov): gifts, party w/friends, relatives visiting. Some progress, friends party booked, gifts given, but need to arrange for parents as well.
 • Clean up the balcony for winter. Some progress.
 • Eat well - hope to be below 62 kilos end of month. This is still really bad. Need to do better once kids are not around.

Final update late evening Dec 1st.

November was tough. My ex had covid, so kids were with me for most of the month, and when they weren't, I was just tired.
Also something happened at work that made me want to just resign. Have not been this bad in the almost two years I have been there, not even close. Fortunately my boss really had my back, so the person being an idiot about who should do the tasks of someone leaving the company just had to give up their stupid ideas. But it was a tough period, I did not sleep well. It has just gotten better in the last few days.

So this final update for November is not good, but there are reasons.

Please note I use a color scheme that differs a bit form most in this thread.
Blue = good progress
Orange = at risk
Red = did not happen
Green = completed
 • Focus goal: Sleep. In bed by 10 pm, lights off by 10.30 all days before work days - 21 days.
 • Focus goal: Plan 2021-2022. There has been progress but I need to continue in December.
 • Focus goal: Apartment. I want to continue declutter and organize in these areas: Paper, Kitchen, Bookshelf, Living room, Storage, DS1 room, DS2 room. Some bits here and there but really not much progress.
 • Exercise & fitness: Yoga 10 times (did 2), gym 4 times (1), get back on any 30 days at-home program for at least the last week of Nov (nothing), run 4 times (0), swim 3 times (1), karate 6 times (2) and walk 240 000 steps - I did just over 266 000. I will reach my yearly goal in less than a week as long as I don't break a leg or something. This makes me very happy..
 • Use the Robovac regularly. Cat hair everywhere... I will give myself a yes here - I did change the battery and started using it.
 • Plan DS2 birthday (mid-Nov): gifts, party w/friends, relatives visiting. Ok, not perfect, but enough. Seeing grandparents delayed due to pandemic worries.
 • Clean up the balcony for winter.
 • Eat well - hope to be below 62 kilos end of month.

@LinneaH thanks. I knew November would be hard, so drastically lowered my standards :)

Your November sounds stressful. Glad that's over and hope December is kinder to you!

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
