October 2019 Goals
« on: October 01, 2019, 06:45:28 PM »
Hi all,

Went 4/6 in September, looking forward to starting anew with some fresh goals for October. Feel free to join and let us know any goals you have for the month of October!

1. $3500 in after-tax savings
Starting to get a feel for my expected income, made a crude budget and $3500 is a nice stretch goal

2. Read “Thinking, Fast and Slow”
Annual goal of reading a book a month, on track and this is my pick for October.

3. Total spending <$850
Goes along with goal #1, I need under 850 expenses to guarantee my savings goal

4. Go the whole month without looking at stock prices
Inspiration from another thrown down gauntlet, curious to see if I can resist the curiosity (even though I wouldn't act, I still like to look)

5. Practice negative visualization 15 times
Really found this to be useful last month, managed 11. Upped goal to 15 as I want this to be a habit

6. Perform 10 home bodyweight workouts
Still have not joined a gym since moving across the country, don't plan on joining a gym this month but want to give the body a wakeup call this month and put an end to the wasting away of muscle/strength I've experienced over the past month

7. Donate blood
I know where to go, just have to go do it.

8. Shoot a 28 (-1) at local disc golf course (9 holes)
My course best so far is a 29 (E), and my goal in the nearish future is to shoot a 26 (-3).

List all my mental and physical commitments. And cancel the unnecessary.
Open bank account to bucket just the grocery and dining money.
Teach 10 new words to my kid.

Will add more.

Hubs and I are both out of work right now. I have an interview Tuesday and he has put multiple applications out for jobs. Technically I have 2 shifts scheduled at my old job this month but piff, I am basicaly out of work.  No better time than the present!

October goals in no particular order:

- We are *tight* on the dolla dolla bills this month. We are eating the pantry, freezer, and quite possibly the walls of our house. I am also going to suspend my drinking by not buying more hooch once this bottle of Tito's runs out. Sure there is an old handle of peach schnapps that may be used but... let us not judge

- that said, track all meals on Weight Watchers app.

- purge and donate things we aren't using. This golden month can be a huge opportunity to do all the things I couldn't do bc I was "too tired" after work. Excuses no more!

-Tackle the paper trap! It can be done.

- clean out a portion of our basement and organize the air conditioner units, window fans, and window screens. The cold is coming and this will be a glory month of no heating bill. Bundle up buttercups.

- organize all my gardening and seeds for 2020

- preparing myself and plan to start side hustle business. Meeting with a collaborating colleague at the end of the month to dream and scheme.

- Tart up ( with things we have already in the house) our spare bedroom for a guest that is coming over to stay at the end of the month

3. Total spending <$850
Grossly on track.

So far so good.

5. Practice negative visualization 15 times

Thrilled.. Shot a 26 (-3) this past weekend, and still left some out there. Course record is 21, I think that 24 is a reasonable goal for me now.

All in all a good start to the month!

I know it's mid-month - but here I am:).

1. Save $1500 - done!
2. Cancel STARZ by end of the month.
3. Get two quotes - tree removal - fence - fill in dirt/leveling backyard - possibly talk to a landscape designer.

4. Clean up front porch - done!
5. Clean up carport - hopefully this weekend.
6. Clean up garden storage area - working on it.

7. Fall gardening - in full swing:).

8. Fix up-replace mailbox/post - maybe decorate mail box:).

9. October is the garden month - but I need to get back to working on the house by Thursday next week before things get out of hand.
The plan is to reduce my garden and outdoor project time to two days a week.
BOO - the garden is so much more fun!:)

10. HEALTH - ongoing - buy more fresh-organic veggies, keep experimenting with new recipes. The Anti-Inflammatory cookbook turned out to be quite helpful and I found useful information on youtube.

I have seen improvement - less brain fog, more stamina, beginning to feel better. Sugar and alcohol seem to have the most negative impact, daily raw apples and more fresh, raw - organic veggies appear to have the most positive impact.
So far so good.
Eating smaller meals and intermittent fasting are doing me good as well.

Still experimenting with herb teas and found that dried/ground rosehips from my garden were not just good and tasty but my body seemed to lap it up and I felt more energized. Used up what I had - need to find a trustworthy source.
Still haven't gone to the fleamarket for local organic produce/herbs - maybe this weekend.

Haven't been keeping up with updates, but here's week... 3?  Wow.

1. Study my French book, at least 4 chapters
Nada, big fail on this so far
2. Bake every week
So far so good, but I think I can do more
3. Prepare for next year's garden beds
  a. Dig up paving stones
  b. Lay cardboard
  c. Fill with yard waste
  d. (optional) Fill with compost, if ready
Nada, this may be replaced with cutting down the tree in our yard instead
4. Attend 2 social events
Success!  Several family events, and one friend event.  A few more possible family things planned for the end of the month.

End of month:

1. Study my French book, at least 4 chapters
Nothing, decided I don't have time to work on language right now and returned book to library
2. Bake every week
Missed only one week, I'll count it as a win
3. Prepare for next year's garden beds
  a. Dig up paving stones
  b. Lay cardboard
  c. Fill with yard waste
  d. (optional) Fill with compost, if ready
Weather remained nasty on weekends I wasn't with family.  This may have to wait until spring.
4. Attend 2 social events
Success!  Very busy with family events every weekend, but still made time for a friend event as well
