I'm Throwin It Down! 10lbs in 14 Days
« on: November 19, 2012, 06:39:47 AM »
Ok, ok so this doesn't sound like a huge challenge; but, I'm only at 180, so 10lbs will take a little more effort to lose. 11 months ago my daughter was born and my exercise regiment went to crap. Up to that point I was doing a Crossfit variation called Sealfit 5 days a week, mountain biking, swimming, etc. Now I'm just kinda out of shape. I weighed myself this morning and I'm at 180 by my scale. I overslept this morning, but my diet started with breakfast and I'm going to hit the gym full force starting this afternoon. 14 days from now I am hoping to be back into an exercise routine and ten pounds lighter! I'm throwing it up here for accountability and to invite anyone to join me!

Consider revising your goal away from weight and pay attention to your body composition instead (particularly % fat). It's too easy to lose water and muscle instead of fat when operating on a calorie deficit. Do some research and figure out what's ideal for your age and sex and work toward that.

Otherwise, consider a healthier goal, like 1~2 pounds per week and no more than a 500 calorie deficit.

Healthy weight loss averages around 2 pounds per week. At 180 pounds, unless you're around 4 feet tall, the only way you can possibly accomplish your goal is with a starvation diet. Unfortunately, that's not really healthy and may result in your rebounding higher than 180 pounds once you go off your diet.

Your goal would be great over 4 months. If you gained the 10 extra pounds in the past 20 months, it is more reasonable to expect to lose them in that time frame. Remember, you can't lose weight by going on a diet. Saying you are going "on" a diet implies you will go "off" the diet at some point. To keep the weight off permanently you need to make a healthy life style change.

I think the 10 pounds is a great goal, but I too think the timeframe is a bit too tight.  If you are going to follow a tight 'eat clean' diet you should be able to do this in a month.

Cool!  Good luck.  In my experience 8-10 lbs in the first 2 weeks IS possible and healthy b/c we often retain water when we eat too many carbs, so you can lose that quickly by cleaning up your diet.   to all the naysayers -haven't you guys had that experience?

People don't judge cars or other machines on their weight, so why should you? Focus on running faster, lifting more, and putting quality fuel in your body. The weight loss will be just a convenient byproduct. :)
