April 2016 No Restaurant No Bar Challenge
« on: March 30, 2016, 08:25:59 PM »
Anyone up for a "No Restaurant-No Bar" Challenge for April?

Basically works like this...
--don't spend any of your own money in a restaurant or bar for the month. (It's okay if someone takes you to lunch for work).
--take your lunch to work everyday
--obviously cook at home
--say no to happy hour (the most challenging for me).

No thanks.

I may well not go to a restaurant or bar, but taking it as a 'win' if someone else pays ain't the way I roll.

No restaurant, no bar, no sponging off others. :)

If that's the case I'm in.

I didn't mean to sound like I would be mooching off of someone. I work in marketing, and sometimes vendors take me out to lunch or coffee...I can't say no. I would never ask someone to take me to lunch to so I could win a challenge. :)

Yeah I didn't take it as mooching. It also tells me that using previously owned gift cards would be allowed... Right? :D

I'm in!  My budget is $200 for everything this month.  Groceries, personal products and cleaning supplies.  Nothing left over for restaurants! :)

Seems like cheating in my opinion. Gift cards are more or less money. If you use them this month, then next month you'll have to spend real money instead if you go to a restaurant.

I succeeded at not going to a restaurant/bar in March. April seems less likely for that to happen again.

Day 4 and so far so good for me. Brought lunch to work Friday and today (Monday)...tuna packet and spinach salad. Cooked at home for all other meals...mostly things on the grill, so not too shabby. It was challenging on Saturday when the husband and I were running errands...I had a twinge to pull into Sonic for an iced tea...it's amazing how much things like "an iced tea" come into your consciousness with an impulse to spend. How's everyone else doing?

I need this- was a over my restaurant budget in March and need to get back on track.  I agree that someone taking you out is not mooching/ sponging.  Vendors do occasionally take me to lunch.  More often, our generous company bring lunch in for meetings and treats.  I'm not passing that up.
