Inspired by
Financial Independence Week Europe, I wrote a few FI-related songs for singing around the campfire. I believe the financial independence should have a song-writing and singing community, similar to the
Filk community for science fiction and fantasy. I want to capture the spirit of FI in music and lyrics, and be able to sing it together with others.
Here's the challenge:- Write a FI-inspired song. Description below.
- Post it here: text, YouTube video, SoundCloud, whatever
- Scare all the trick-or-treaters with your FI-inspired parody of MC Hammer's "Can't Touch This", called "Don't Buy That!"
What type of song? It should be about a Financial, FI, RE or related topic. Write about what you'll do when you retire early, how to save money, what makes you happy now, what you're changing about your life, how to pay off a mortgage fast, ways to save on taxes, why minimalism is the best -ism ever, travel hacking, orphan goats that you'll adopt after FIRE, tec. Re-use a melody from a known song or create your own. For inspiration, here's a song written about the
Chautauqua conference. At FIWE, we created songs about, e.g. "We all save all the money that we earn" (Yellow Submarine), "Chunk of Money" (Drunken Sailor), "One More Year To Work" (One More River To Cross), and "My Stock Price" (Edelweiss).
And a bonus question:
what should these songs be called? Suggestions so far:
- CampFIRE songs
- FIndie music
- FIlk music
